Carlos Santana Adele Beyonce

Legendary musician Carlos Santana weighed in on the controversy surrounding Beyonce's loss to Adele at the Grammy Awards. Adele took home 5 coveted statuettes while Beyonce won only 2 -- for best urban contemporary album and best music video.

When asked why Adele won Album of the Year over Beyonce's Lemonade, Santana said “I think that Adele won because she can sing, sing".

“With all respect to our sister Beyoncé,” he said, “Beyoncé is very beautiful to look at and it’s more like modeling kind of music—music to model a dress—she’s not a singer, singer, with all respect to her," he told the New Zealand Herald.

The 13-time Grammy winner said, "Adele can sing, sing. She doesn't bring all the dancers and props, she can just stand there and she just stood there and sang the song and that's it, and this is why she wins".

    Wait for it! LMAO!

  • bhavana

    He's not lying!

  • Quitedeliteful

Whut we waiting for? Should I duck?

  • jazmine

I don't think Beyoncé will ever win AOTY because people don't think she writes enough. That last few winners have written 90% of their albums

  • Quitedeliteful

I have to say I agree with him. I can see why Adele got so many awards -- and this is not to say that Beyonce is not phenomenal. She's a great entertainer and puts on a fantastic show. I don't like all of her songs but the songs I like I really love. I do feel like Adele has a better voice and is a singer's singer.

  • Erin Blockabitch

I don't think Beyonce or Adele are powerhouses when it comes to vocals. IMO, Bruno Mars gave the best Grammy performances of the night. Both of his performances were stellar.

Demi Lovato can sing her face off, but I don't like her personality. I won't deny her talent, tho. I don't hear Adele or Beyonce outsinging her.

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

Adele has mass appeal and Beyonce does not. The end.

  • jazmine

She puts out good visuals but the lyrics be truly terrible. Like formation, great video but allllll over the place lyrically.

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

The Yawn-say fans are coming for Carlos.

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

A girl who has a probably never an entire book, certainly can't be expected to pick or write stellar lyrics.

  • Quitedeliteful

Now you know that's right!!! I was almost afraid to say that I agree with him. Just might get nailed to the cross!!!

  • Junkanoo

Power to the people these people are multi millionaires so l dont give a toss

  • jazmine

    ??? can you go?

  • missmiami305

He is correct. Adele has a more "diverse" fan base and the gal can sing. Even in her video send my love, she is just standing there singing. She captivates you with her voice. She has raw talent. Can't deny that. Both had wonderful albums imo. It is what it is.

  • MystyBlu

I'm bored of this already. Adele is a talented songwriter and has an amazing voice but she abuses it, hence her nodules and the need for surgery. Is she keeps up the crazy touring she did last year they will come back with a vengeance. She will not have longevity in this business if she doesn't learn to sing with less effort. Her and Bey are two different types of performers. Bey has her lane. She's not a powerhouse singer. It's like comparing Patti Labelle to Diana Ross in terms of vocal quality. I have both ladies' albums and listen to them for totally different reasons. ????? Doesn't take from either Adele or Beyoncé's talents.

  • missmiami305

    Demi can sing too.

  • Jamie Jay

Lets be honest, they dont support her cause she's black. If their was a white Beyonce they'd be all over her. Beyonce used to be real conservative before she got hood and they liked her, they don't like this BLM Beyonce and will not support her.

  • hottlanta

YASSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!! Finally someone finally afraid not to tell the truth. She is just a high price stripper. Now watch what I tell ya some pregnant girl gonna try go to the prom with that same getup.

  • missmiami305

Exactly how I feel. You cannot compare the two at all. Apples to oranges. Hell it's enough awards to go around lol. Not that serious! I adore both musicians. They each bring something different to the table.

  • morenYAHdelsur

I don't disagree with him but it is a slap in the face to an artist who's been in the game 20 years.

Also, what about black Grammy statistics? The fact that many have been nominated and regulated and relegated to "urban" awards. That, sir, is the reason why folks got they jaws tight.

I adore Adele! However, the fact remains that black artists are generally looked over. I'm always an advocate for making my own table rather than begging to be at theirs.

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

One year, I spent New Year's eve with Anita Baker. I was astonished at how effortlessly she belts out a tune!

  • Taylordanes

Wow .... the jealousy and hate of successful black women.. Adeles albums ALL sound the SAME.......Sad...weary..yeah ok Beyonce has the thatrics because she is not ONLY a singer but an entertainer.....lesbehonest........

  • MystyBlu

Right. It's not a comparison at all. From a clinical standpoint Beyoncé does not have a strong voice, but that's because she doesn't force the issue. Adele belts out her ballads but she also puts tons of strain on her vocal cords. Ask Mariah how that works out after 10-15 years.

  • Taylordanes

    Right

  • missmiami305

That's a bit abrasive. She's an entertainer like many before her. Theatrical is all.
    https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/0ce9bd1c06b71efe3b00eb48aebba8a6c05483cc389a752320b782bb66c5c2a1.gif

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

What's the rate for pregnant strippers?

  • dontgetblocked

Beyoncé took Janet Jackson's formula of big show...lots of dancers and lots of sex. That works to generate sales and some Grammys but not awards for the body of work. Everybody from young to old loved Hello. Beyoncé's Formation...not so much. Notice how Adele broke the Grammy in half instead of giving the whole Grammy to Beyoncé. She's throwing her crumbs. Beyoncé is a slutty production while Adele is a SINGER and that's why she won.

  • Taylordanes

And there are songs where Beyonce JUST songs too...but people want to be entertained as well which is why people like dancers and the effects as well!

  • Taylordanes

    Thank you!

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

Adele is overrated and overly praised. In my opinion she isn't a great singer. She's a white girl that sings like a black person , THAT'S IT! There are plenty of people that can sing circles round her Ex: Fantasia. I am not impressed with that obese shouting white woman. She and the rest of the British soul faux black singers can have a seat.

  • Realtalk2

Sandra, I'm assuming that Beyonce owes you for unpaid royalties. At some point in her career she must have owed you for services rendered. Why is she taking up SO much real estate in your mind. You are obsessed with her. 3 out of 5 stories are about Queen B!! Damn, Jay don't about Beyonce as much as you do!! Are you using this blog to stalk?? Kinda feels like it!!

  • Dr. P

That's why no one buys his shoes anymore.

  • missmiami305

Chile they aren't even in the same lane. Bey has hers and Adele has hers as well. Not that serious! Completely different genres

  • morenYAHdelsur

LOL you ain't right but I do agree. She got that blue-eyed soul!

  • hottlanta

So Beyoncé urban is regulated to urban as if it a step down (punishment) while John B., Justine Timberlake and Michael Bolton gets paid as if it urban is a grade up.

  • missmiami305

Mannnnnnnnnnnnn u feel me. Shid just look at Taylor Swift. She can do no wrong and she changes men like drawers

  • Angela

??????...This is it in a nut shell....She is "too Black and radical" for them now which is why she didn't win.....

  • Taylordanes

    yeah ok.....BYE!

  • dontgetblocked

Patti Labelle and Aretha Franklin still have great voices.

  • missmiami305

    yup yup lol

  • Carolina Blue

    Ohhhh hell mr santana!!??

  • Angela

Pls call Taylor the HOE that she is....

  • Vonn

I agree too. Adele can definitely sing & is very talented. Beyonce is a performer. They is no way Adele could dance through one song. I enjoy some of, each of their music.

  • MystyBlu

Exactly! And I don't agree that Beyoncé is on Janet's level either. Janet doesn't sing everything live like Bey does in concert. That girl was trained to sing and dance simultaneously so she doesn't need to lip sync. Again, she doesn't have the BEST voice but it's far from the worst. She can definitely hold her own when singing ballads, that's just not her forte

  • missmiami305

she got her money up and now has creative control to do whatever she wants https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/925e65a51719c668eaa8c46e092adab9d7fc1f76e2ca2d0b010dbd2b8c36da7f.gif

  • what?why

That's true, Beyonce never cultivated her voice She works hard at being an entertainer - her choice. Lemonade's choreography was great but music just not there.

  • Michelle

Well, if we're going to really go there, Adele can sing but she is NOT nor will she EVER be able to sing like the ONE and ONLY Teena Marie! Let's talk about that! Adele gets so much respect because most female singers today can't sing. They are just overrated, sexualized wh@res. Lady T she ain't.

  • missmiami305

Girlllllllllllllll she sure is and I like her music as well. Bish gives zero fuggs https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/0cf80bd2f42cfca6b9580f59c8bb68f765562d92a402c8c2129bfb5c8d75663b.gif

  • morenYAHdelsur

...nuances of life presumably. Teena Marie's fan base too.

Beyoncé has crossed over as many artists have and they receive awards in the "urban" category.

The afformentioned artists have appeal in both markets and have won awards in both markets.

It's odd for black artists to be labeled primarily as "urban" is my point. They should be able to be more fluid.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

All Adele does is shout. She's no Whitney. White whale getting praised for mediocrity. If she were black no one would pay her any mind.

  • toni walker

Beyonce concerts are 70% white she would not be as big of it weren't for non-black people.

  • MystyBlu

Adele has no breath support for her voice. Let her ass walk across the stage while holding a note and you won't have the same vocal quality. She's a beast standing in one spot but that doesn't equate to her having a superior voice. She knows her niche and stays in it ?????

  • missmiami305

lmao!!!!!! talk about backpeddling. I understood what he was saying. However, he should know better. Leave it to the media to twist your words.

  • i troll it like i see it

I don't know about the high price hooker, but it is nice to see someone giving unfiltered yet respectful interviews and not giving a damn about the backlash. But why would he care, he is a legend in his own right. I like Beyoncé but I couldn't care less if she wins anymore awards.

  • hottlanta

You know it and you gonna come back and say hot you was right. They going to Michael's right now looking for those flowers.

  • toni walker

She would not be a global superstar if it weren't for non-black people.

  • Brook York

    That's right! LOL!

  • Angela

    "White Whale"???<----???...Horrible...

  • i troll it like i see it

That's true too. First time I saw single ladies video, my mind was blown. The dancing was just incredible.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

See that mess. They expect all blacks to sound like that, so it's nothing when we do. Let a cave person sing with a little bit of soul and they're the best thing ever! I'm of sick of them.

  • dontgetblocked

Teena Marie sang R&B and she could tear it up. Adele is just singing a good old song...maybe pop. I don't know what to call it but Hello is and was the shyt.

  • MystyBlu

She's definitely no Whitney. I love her music and I like her live performances in isolation. I wouldn't pay to see a full concert of hers. I do voice therapy so it's hard for me to turn off the critique when hearing people sing live. She really will destroy her voice in 5-10 years if she doesn't practice restraint. If you have to strain to hit notes that's not your range. She also was a smoker and drinker. Two things that further degrade the vocal folds.

  • Brook York

    He changed his tune.

  • toni walker

Non-black people made Beyonce a global superstar if it weren't for them she would d-list Black woman r&b singer.

  • missmiami305

But I have a pair or two.......Got them some years back but I adore them. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/fc7f24aca558862a40036f3f526f606452c848ddd0408e6387e024c126f3fda6.jpg

  • Angela

    And gays.....

  • Michelle

You know it! Lady T was the business. There will NEVER be another like her, ever. She sang from her soul and you felt it. She was truly amazing. May she rest in peace.

  • jussaying

i don't understand why people go on about someone not being able to "sing." people don't have to shout and scream to sing good lord. adele is overrated to me as well. lol so is beyoncé to me as i don't like her music, but the girl can sing and let's not act like she can't.

  • Lovezoe

I bet the hive posting his addy right now lol

  • morenYAHdelsur

She wouldn't have reached global status if it weren't for black people. Know that.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

Leslie Jones to big to make clothes for, but Adele big ass isn't? Uh huh. I'm tired of cave demons and their nonsense.

  • jussaying

lol they didn't twist his words he's just not trying to get backlash.

  • hottlanta

I was with you until you got to the lip synching part.

  • missmiami305
  • Michelle

    Omg!!!! LMFAO!!!!!.....???

  • missmiami305

love me some Tasia. Barefeet and all. A modern day Patti indeed

  • Michelle

    Ha Ha Ha!!!!!.....????!

  • morenYAHdelsur

Lawd! Somebody said if it weren't for yt folks Bey would not be famous at all. Well nah!

If it weren't for all them little black girls (like me in 1998) no-damn-body would know her.

Don't forget American music starts with us. All of it!

  • Brook York

    He already backpeddled...lol

  • Carolina Blue

    Tearing his ass up!

  • Vonn

I loooove Bruno. Hope I can make his concert this year.

  • Blak

Nothing wrong with his honesty. Beyonce is a grown ass woman who sings nursery rhymes, that she doesn't write herself. Like a comedian, class clown and even a simp, she is nothing more than entertainment...she is not a singer and her music is not empowering

  • Oretta Grace Smith

NOT EVERYBODY!! I NEVER CARED FOR "HELLO" or any of Adele's songs!!! I'll take Beyonce anyday OVER Adele!!

  • MystyBlu

She doesn't need to lip sync. Has she EVER done it? Yes, but in concert that's not her go-to. Janet used to only sing some of her ballads live and lip sync the whole entire concert. I still loved her performances but if you're looking for a straight Janet performer, Britney is a closer comparison.

  • missmiami305

I am speaking NOT in terms of color. I am speaking in terms of genres.............. Hence Beyonce is labeled an "Urban" artist.

  • Dr. P

You be the onlyiest one buying them joints....his shit will be on sale for $1 next to ivanka's....he used to make the baddest shoes.

  • Benjamin

This man is crazy, Beyonce would sing CIRCLES around Adele.

  • missmiami305

#Dead I did get them in Marshalls. Chile I save every damn thing. Aint no shame here

  • missmiami305

I guess he dont want none of the beyhive lmao

  • bhavana

Fantasia's voice is annoying. It's like nails on a chalkboard.

  • MystyBlu

All things considered, Carlos is entitled to his opinion. Ion like the idea that he's saying her music is model music, whatever the hell that is?! I think that was a Bey dismissive way of saying Beyoncé is only as good as her looks and not truly talented. One of many reasons I wish she would retire her leotards and wear some clothes lol But he doesn't have to think she's the greatest singer ever. Do him.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

That's a bold face lie and I'm no Beyoncé fan. I loved Destiny's Child back in the day. Before YT people started checking for them. Back when they did the no, no, remix with Wycleff and that the song for the Spike lee movie, Get on the bus.

  • missmiami305

Chile not even feeding into that.

  • dontgetblocked

I respect your opinion but you're in the minority. That song shattered records. Unfortunately, the same can't be said for any of Beyoncé's songs.

  • missmiami305
  • Luvn_it

Thing is Beyonce can sing she also

happens to be a great entertainer. But he's right she's not a singer she's a vocalist there's a difference. I love Adele but when it comes to what singing is Adele herself will say Beyonce is better. Singing live Adele has bad pitch she's not the greatest with using her chest voice she's even off key at times when it comes to her head voice. While Adele is 3 octave Mezzo-soprano Beyonce is a 4 octave Contralto Mezzo-soprano. There's a reason why Adele keeps making the same music it fits her voice. It takes a vocalist to be able to change things up and sing different genres. All Carlos do is play a guitar.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

That's your opinion. I'm sure you think that white whale has a better voice too.

  • Brook York

He backpeddled on his statement already.

  • missmiami305

Chile that's her signature. Kinda like MJ and his loafers. LOL! I've made piece with it.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

White folks out here trying get to white wash our childhoods. Hell no, not on my watch.

  • Erin Blockabitch

I love him, with his little self. If you go, please blow him a kiss for me. Lol

  • DroneRivers

He must not know about Bey. Her recent music doesn't do much to showcase her vocal range and ability, but she can definitely sing. I think she does herself a disservice with all the half-nakedness, but her voice is definitely one of the greats of her generation.

  • MystyBlu

It is but her music is growing so I need her wardrobe to grow along with it. Blue's getting older, much as I know she's a performer I don't think she n eds to show her daughter that all she sells is sex. It's worked for her but I'd love to see her take more chances with her look. She's beautiful and her body will be banging no matter what she wears. No need to be half-naked forever

  • imright

Maria mariaaaaaaaa she remind me of a west side storyyyyyyyyy??????

  • nick c

I hope she doesn't follow the Madonna model her old azz seems to never give it up.

  • missmiami305

They can't help it. It's in their nature unfortunately. I loved No, No, No, bootylicious, and etc. Please!!!

  • jussaying

i agree but i also think she wears leotards because it's hot as hell under the lights and it's easy for her to move in them.

  • Oretta Grace Smith

And I Will stay in the minority!!! But YOU said everybody.

  • nick c

At least he can play an instrument...

  • missmiami305
  • http://worldstarhiphop.com/ The Dutchess

Ppl always say no disrespect then disrespect the f*ck outta of mf lol

  • Luvn_it

If Adele was a few shades darker she wouldn't sale like she does or win awards like that. And this notion is coming from a fan.

  • missmiami305

    YEP most dancers wear them

  • MystyBlu

True but I'd love to her to give it a rest. She wears them heavy ass pantyhose and tights and weave for days so I'm sure she's still hot on stage ? I also love her with darker hair but I'll settle for clothes

  • missmiami305

    Now, that was funny!

  • DroneRivers

Maybe after these twins she can find a bedazzled stool to perch on and just belt out some ballads like she used to. But I don't really see that happening. lol

  • missmiami305

Chile when I heard her singing 1+1 in her dressing room.....gave me chills

  • Vonn

    Lol

  • Angela Winbush

His opinion is very valid. Adele is a singer. Beyonce is a singer BUT known for being a Great Performer. You have to understand that the Grammy's are VERY Traditional and the voters may not grasp Beyonce's concepts with her visual album. With that being said being nominated for any Grammy is still an Honor. This ain't Beyonce's first and won't be her last Grammy win!!!!

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

There are people out there that believe MJ had no color/ was a white man. So we're just going to ignore his Jackson 5 days and his whole family? Ok.

  • MystyBlu

I love Fantasia's voice too but she also oversings her range. Every once in a while it's cool but she can't maintain it. Reason she had vocal nodules and surgery during the color purple. She also needs to take better care of her voice. True singing is effortless, not strained

  • Benjamin

Exactly! Beyonce started out as a vocalist with Destiny's Child, and then gradually into the best entertainer of this generation...Bey can do it all honey.

  • Luvn_it

Then he should give his opinion on guitar playing. Not singing which isn't his field.

  • DroneRivers

he must have gotten a sting or two already. Them crazies ain't got nothing but time lol

  • morenYAHdelsur

HELLO ? LOL! That guy caught a cab, got on the bus, maybe eem called Tyrone's @$$!

I was like FIGHT ME when I read that comment.

  • Benjamin

Let them know honey!..LET THEM KNOW!

  • DroneRivers

Not on SALE for $1! *flatline*

  • morenYAHdelsur

And we're holding them accountable for it too. That's the real issue. Nobody wants a back-talking negro...

  • Ni Ni

He ain't lying. Beyonce is not a vocalist. She sings alright for what she do, but she is not a true singer. Beyonce could never get on stage with a gospel singer, they would out shine her. You put somebody up there like Fantasia or KeKe Wyatt, they would fit right in with those gospel adlibs. Beyonce couldn't do that. I remember an interviewer asked JHud to sing something on the spot, she did it with no hesitation and hit every note. The queen cant do it. The late great Whitney could though.

Truth be told half of you in here could out sang her, but you would rather downplay your own talents. Most of your kids have better singing voices.

Black folks used to know what good sanging sound like..her voice is just not that good.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

She does have a tendency to shout too. But hervoices sounds more genuine, like it's come from her soul. Adele sings like a side show attraction, the negro singing white woman. She stands in one spot for a reason . I have an ear for good singers and Adele isn't it. To me she sounds like she putting on a act to sell her music. Very few people with big voices can sing with little to no effort.

  • nick c

What's better Ying yang twins? Come on with that mess

  • morenYAHdelsur

    Let them tell it!

I was like FIGHT ME when I read that comment LOL.

  • jussaying

what the hell are you even talking about..:

  • Carolina Blue

Lawd!!! Yall are in here going at it!!??

  • DroneRivers

So you honestly think Adele deserved Album of the Year for that one song? I can't name a single other Adele song off that album. Formation, on the other hand was brilliant from start to finish, imo.

  • DroneRivers

Grammy's aren't given for breaking records. Look at Chance the Rapper.

  • morenYAHdelsur

LOL! Appropriation and misinformation. See how that works?! And how quickly the cycle happens? That's why I don't believe chit they say LOL. Think about the hundreds, thousands of years they've been around with this age-old trick. Them MFs will piss on your head and tell you it's raining ?

  • Benjamin

Girl you're full of lies. Bey is a 4 octave Contralto Mezzo-soprano, a straight vocalist honey.

    https://youtu.be/eGRJ1Q5ssbg

  • Carolina Blue

    ??

  • MsChocCookie

I agree with Carlos 500 percent. Adele, is a singer whereas Beyonce, is a Vegas Show Girl. In any event, none of their albums was worthy of a Grammy of the year. I think Solange, was snubbed big time! The girl is super talented and can sing compared to Beyonce, who puts on a show and steals other peoples music! I'm just keeping it real!!!

  • MystyBlu

Oh Fantasia can most definitely blow and she makes you FEEL her music, flaws and all. I remember Lauryn saying she kept the rawest versions of her songs on miseducation because she loved the flaws in her voice from emotion. I'm just saying Fantasia has also had vocal problems from abusing her voice. She can sing like that from time to time and not do as much damage. But she wasn't able to maintain it day in and day out like in the color purple. There are ways to sing big without destroying your voice. With Mary Mary, Tina has a MUCH bigger voice than Erica's naturally so it takes less effort. Erica forces her intensity, hence her bleeding vocal cords.

  • Faithz

He had better get that Raid for the FleaHive.

  • Benjamin

Tell it. That's her signature, just like MJ's gloves and high water pants, Tina Turners hair, and so on.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

I'm not going to drag Carlos because he's one of the few people in the industry, that admits black people created all genres of music. He has checked people in the past about the origins of Latin music and music in gerneral. On the other hand I'm not praising that WHITE WHALE for doing something negros been doing since FOREVER! If Adele greedy behind were black she'd get paid dust. I'm not here for white people and their domination of EVERYTHING!

  • missmiami305

    Dont nobody care about gospel

  • Ni Ni

I'm not youtubing her yodeling. It does something to my tender ears.

  • jussaying

lol legit confused how ying yang twins factored in to any portion of the convo. he climbed back an entire decade to get them into this discussion. ??

  • Benjamin

Well get your ears checked girl, because they're lying to you.

  • TwitterFingerz

He is right. Just that simple.

  • Ni Ni

No sir/ma'am I'll rather keep my ailment then ?.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

Beyoncè can sing, she isn't a vocalist. There's difference. All vocalist can be singers, but all singers cannot be vocalist . Keke Wyatt is a vocalist and a singer , Beyoncé is a singer . Learn the difference then come back and try it again.

  • disqus_FW7pCIigCY

Sad how black people are the first to jump up and agree with all other races when they disrespect us..... Britney Spears can't sing most Caucasian girls can't...... But I've NEVER EVER heard a white person admit to it.... How come Carlos didn't say Jeniffer Lopez can't sing...... We will Never get anywhere as a people because we never uplift each other ..... We're a sad race..... Everybody should be in a uproar over his comments.... We should talk about Carlos like a dog tell him to shut up before we tell TRUMP on him... WE can say whether or not BEY can sing , but when another race says it we should snap..... Stop allowing and helping other races belittle "US" they don't have love for us..... ?

  • missmiami305

Funny thing is Tina turner Was never referred to as a show or stripper in her hayday based on her theatrics and attire

  • MsSincerity

I never listened to Adele's whole album, and I never paid attention to her long enough to know if she's a great singer, but I'm sure they probably overrated her, just like they do every other beige person....as far as Lemonade, I listened to the ITunes snippets and I had no desire to download not one song. I've said this a while back that she's an illusion. The sparkly leotards, the 50 thousand dancers, the infamous fan blowing her gold locs in the wind, the screen imagery...smoke.

  • Hell_On_Heelz

Well alright Mr. Santana, keeping it ?.

  • missmiami305

I understand. I just feel like it is her stage persona

  • Hell_On_Heelz

    LMAO

  • Carolina Blue

    Lmao??? whooo lawdy

  • Ni Ni

Im sorry, you right a dog in the backyard can even sing.

  • Taylordanes

thank you....its like you do not have to like her but to blatantly dismiss her talent is ridiculous

  • Anji

Adele is a good singer with pitch problems and that can be taught. Bey does the most she can with what she is given, she is a great entertainer. Carlos is used to Aretha and Pattie from his era.

  • Benjamin
  • Jamie Jay

Beyonce is hated because of the color of her skin. She is a performer and they always tearing us down but emulate us at the same time. MJ (RIP) was hated when he was alive, now they praise him like a saint. I listened to Adele's last album and it was not all that and guess what people, she sings like a black woman but when black women sing like that, they are not praised or given awards. This is all about race, plain and simple.

  • Benjamin

It's a common thing in our community. Its shameful.

  • leapyearpisces

Beyonce can sing, she cannot sang, but that is NOT her bread or butter, her bread and butter is being one of the world's best entertainers. I am not a fan of hers enough to pay to go see her in concert, but every SINGLE person I know who has, had nothing but wonderful things to say. They raved about her show. She is a showman, and that is all to it. Beyonce never stepped on the scene like she could sang her face off. She gives you an entertainment PACKAGE that includes singing, and I think it takes the Adele's and the Beyonce's, Fantasia's, Toni's, Monica's, Solange's and everything in between to make music go around, and one shouldn't be insulted to exalt the other. I feel Mr. Santana could have worded himself better, but he is old and we know after a certain age them filters retire and folks don't have the patience to fix their words. You either get the gist or your don't. LOL.

  • Taylordanes

    hahahajhaha

  • Taylordanes

Adele has no variety ...songs sound the same "woe is me"

  • Taylordanes

    THIS

  • Anji

Physically Bey can't change her voice. Her coaching throughout the years has strengthened as much as it can. She strains trying to riff and growl. She's like Janet and physical limitations are determined by body type, length of vocal chords etc.

  • Tequila Mockingbird

I'm going to his show in October and I will not do this as he is my husband...lol.

  • Ladyvil

    All satanic too

Hello @sandrarose and the family here from your daily reader here. As usual, I enjoy reading this blog. Happy Valentine's Day to you all.

His explanation provided another perspective (opinion/his lens) for me. I enjoy both ladies and the way each chooses to bring us music.

  • missmiami305

Yessssssssssss to all of this!!!! We can be so gullible as a people.

  • MsPam

Carlos Santana doesn't have anything black folks! He's married to one and is his drummer in his band!

  • Tequila Mockingbird

He didn't mention JLO because the two biggest nominees were Adele and Beyoncé y is JLO brought up?

  • Anji

Exactly. I've been snubbed/ignored with many nods and it never bothers me. I have been a member of the Grammy voting body and at the time was a token because they haven't been diverse. They never listen to urban music and are quite sensitive as they know Black culture has driven all genres of American popular, secular and sacred music. They'd like to think we are more inclined to succeed in music (and not succeed in intellectual pursuits). I have produced Image awards. I'd rather have one of those anyday over the Grammies. I care about my own...and I guess they do too.

  • Ni Ni

I'm surprised at how good Solange sounds.

  • MystyBlu

She can't change her voice, only protect it. I agree that she has physical limits like Janet but Beyoncé has a much stronger, better trained voice than JJ. She's not ever gonna be singing opera, but she s a decent vocalist in addition t being a performer. Janet is a performer, period.

  • missmiami305

Ijs!!!! Since when did gospel set the bar. I mean I guess cuz I am no longer into church like that. I see past it. They do a lot of shouting and are theatrical at best as well

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Thanks for reading. Happy Valentine's Day!

  • Erin Blockabitch
  • IamAllnatural

I agree with him, Beyonce is not a strong singer, with her shaky voice. She's a performer who loves to shake her wig.

  • Tequila Mockingbird

He'll be here in Philly on October 10th this will be the 3rd show of his I'll be going to ???

  • MsPam

Carlos's wife is black so don't call him a racist!

  • KDub

We do know that Carlos been not feeling Bey before now? He said stuff about her Super Bowl performance the other year.

He also is BLM. Loves black music and identifies with black women so much he married two.

Yall hollering race sound silly AF.

He simply doesn't like Bey. It is what it is. Not everyone here for her. Gtf over it

  • KDub

    His first wife too

  • KDub
  • Anji

There are basic standards used and not one of them is shouting or screaming. That's horrible and offends the musical ear. Adele has pitch problems. Bey used to have pitch problems. There is tone, breath control, range, flexibility and delivery also. I wouldn't pay to see Adele, I would consider paying to see Beyonce.

  • Erin Blockabitch

Carlos is a Mexican who is married to a Black woman. I'm not sure his nationality has anything to do with him commenting on an industry in which he is internationally known and world renowned. He is married to a fellow musician who is one of the best drummers in the business. He is a craftsman who is comparing two people who are professionally at the top of their crafts. Neither b*tch could ever hold a candle to my favorite, Chaka Khan, who is one of the best to ever do it.

  • KDub

The veteran musician says he is planning a concert aimed at encouraging and motivating the development of young black and Latino men in the wake of Trayvon Martin’s death and Donald Sterling’s racist comments. He wants to hold the event next year in Florida and is working with Harry Belafonte.
“I’m not show biz and entertainment, I’m an activist,” he said. “I’m a person who with passion believes that we can change the world, we can transform hate and fear forever with the right songs and the right timing.”

  • Missy

I like Carlos Santana, Adele & luv Bey. That is all.?

  • hottlanta

Fantasia at the Tony's singing I' m Here. Bey and Adele can't carry a note like she can. I saw her sing this in person and gave me chill. FANTASIA hands down

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HIbgFc9TLaY

  • MystyBlu

Oh I don't think Carlos is racist at all. Why I said he's entitled to his opinion. Didn't know he doesn't care for Beyoncé but he's not the first nor the last ????? I think it's ridiculous people are making this Grammy issue between her and Adele a THING! They appreciated Adele's music more, the end. Sorry, not sorry but she wasn't bout to win a mainstream award for Lemonade after the Super Bowl fiasco last year. People are big mad. She will get more urban read "you wanna be Black, we gonna SHOW your ass Black" awards and that will be it. Neither album, for ME, was the be all and end all. Ion really care who won.

  • Erin Blockabitch

I don't want to marry him. As adorable as he is, I know neither of us belongs together. He seems like a barrel of fun, tho. If I was a few years younger and a little less stiff, I'd be in Miami with him, sipping champagne while on a balcony of our penthouse in my bikini or one-piece with cutouts while he sniffs lines off of my ass. ? Then I could have the hotel chauffeur take me shopping and return to the hotel in time for dinner. I don't want a lifetime with anyone. Just give me a week. Lol

  • Smith Jane

Didn't Simon Cowell say something similar? Like that she wasn't a great vocalist but a good entertainer.

  • MystyBlu

Carlos is an amazing musician and he's been in the game forever and a day. He's entitled to his opinion even if he DIDN'T support BLM. Why people gotta make it about race?

  • Anji

Throughout musical history any white person that captures a near-Black sound is rewarded with accolades of greatness. To be us is not desirable, to perform like us is greatly rewarded. Adele is overrated. Joss Stone was overrated. White women trying to "sang" is what the masses love. I work with Africans and they prefer Adele over Bey and white over black all day, every day. Sad. The originators of a sound should be celebrated and are, just don't look to the Grammies for recognition.

  • Tequila Mockingbird

Whoa, well all alright....I have his number if you wanna set that up...?

  • Missy

But Beyonce has a beautiful voice. Stop comparing her & just let her be great. Damn.

  • KDub

Someone wrote a whole soliloquy on him being racist. So damn exhausting. Like do some hw. Some damn TIME. Shewwwww.

  • Smith Jane

Beyonce sounds the same way she did back in her D.C. days. She's not a vocalist and her musical catalog is extremely weak for someone that has such a giant PR machine behind them. On every song she yodels and yells. It's not singing but sounds a lot like screeching.

  • Erin Blockabitch

Nah. Lol. Thanks, tho. He has a longtime gf. But if they ever break up, I'm sure he will find someone who would be happy to live my dream. ????

  • Benjamin

Exactly. And we all know Bey "Who said it herself" idolize's and gets her inspiration from Tina Turner. She is to me the Tina Turner of this generation.

    https://youtu.be/dIv-7mXcf1k

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy

Africans and Negros are not from the same stock. I'm not surprised they prefer Adele. We may be skin folk, but we are not kin folk.

  • Anji

People are blessed differently in different areas. Fantasia's musicality is blessed. She has an ear that never loses pitch during runs and she is from the ol' school of wailing. Best singers still come out of Black church. This is also true of Black divas who perform classical music.

  • MystyBlu

They don't wanna know though! That's the thing. And like I said even if you DIDN'T know about him, why make it a Black/white thing? Hell Carlos closer to Bey's color than Adele ? It's not ALL a conspiracy! I didn't like that he was dismissive based on her looks calling it modeling music but now that you said he doesn't like her ass anyway, I can see where it came from ?????

  • Top cat

    Bloop !! Agree d....

  • KDub

He said last Super Bowl real musicians should have performed. Year Bey was there. He has no fux allocated and I think as an artist he finds something wrong with...her artistry. Plain and simple

  • Blue

He ain't a singer either so sat'down somewhere.

  • Ni Ni

I'm not sure, but i agree with him on her being a good entertainer.

  • Anji

They can't generate her passion either. As a coach and ethnomusicologist I appreciate all these artists because at the end of the day they all bring their hears to the table and work in one of the most difficult industries.
People say don't compare but awards shows were created with just that in mind. I have 1 Grammy, several nods. I don't need it. If you're good at what you do and happy doing it, life is full and rich. I can see the talent in all. I also like quite a few artists who don't have aesthetically pleasing voices, but I was raised listening to Bessie, Ma Rainey and such also. Anyone who steps onto a stage and pours their heart out and shares their vision, well, kudos to them all. It ain't easy and fame makes it harder.

  • Blue

    wow

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

Both ladies are talented tho smh

  • tisha

I agree not saying she can't sing but she's an overall entertainer but Adele is an soulful singer not a fan of either one

  • bemetoo

I'm here for it Beyonce cannot sing like Whitney mariah Aretha Celine Christina Toni Stephanie Monica ...she cannot . yes she has a nice voice but she is no singer sanger

  • Anji

Carlos appreciates Fela Kuti and as Fela said "music is the weapon of the future". When I sang afrobeat I also believed this, but I'm confuzzled when I hear our babies spout lyrics they should've never be exposed to. I use music for social economic political purposes. I write and produce for world disasters and it's a great tool,

  • MystyBlu

I hadn't heard that but I ain't mad at him. He's a true artist. Prince also went off on plenty of entertainers because he felt they diluted the craft and anything counts as music these days. They use a lot of gimmicks for Beyoncé. All you need is a banging beat. I like some of it, most not so much unless I'm just tryna get crunk. ?????I can see where someone like Carlos wouldn't be a fan

  • Anji

Carlos has always been in touch with his Black roots. People forget African blood is in Mexico and has been for centuries.

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

    Lol lawd

  • Readytochokemothernatureonout

    Crying

  • morenYAHdelsur

We're merely entertainers to them ? They pick apart our culture (and other cultures), keep what they like, and discard what they dislike. Then try to force-teach it back to us and some of us accept this, making excuses for mistreatment!

  • Anji

Many respected instrumentalists don't appreciate artists that enter and reign in the industry who don't present with muscianship skills. Bey didn't, but she's grown. I mastered over 20 instruments. Decades dedicated to my art. For ol' school who weren't blessed with the monetary favor also complain about art that includes fluff as filler and pushes it onto their fans.

  • hottlanta

You are so right. Frankie Beverly and Maze ain't worried bout no Grammy because we feel they love what they do and we support them. They haven't made a new album in years and we DON'T CARE.

  • Naptastical

    But where's the lie? ?????

  • Hmmm~?

She does NOT sing like a black woman. People need to stop throwing that insulting comparison around just to prove a false point. Adele could never compare to any legendary black female soul singer in voice, or music. Ya'll REALLY need to quit with that. She sounds like exactly what she is; a fat british white woman. The only reason Adele is popular because she can sing her fat butt off. Her pre-comeback live performaces were incredible, and was the main reason she blew up as much as she did. Not because she "sounds like a black woman", because she sure as hell does not.

  • Raquelle Dellaghetto

All Carlos had to say was, "Beyonce didn't win because she makes music for ratchet thots". The End.

  • Raquelle Dellaghetto

But he can play an instrument...

  • Peter Piper ATL

He spoke the truth, and a lot of fans should know that many, many celebrities believe the same thing behind the scenes LOL.

  • Maya

Babaayyyyy Teena Marie puts me in my feelings every time in a way I can't describe.

  • Anji

One thing about my era. You immediately knew who a person was in the first musical bar. Everyone had a unique flavor and they stay in the game forever. No electronics to hide behind, totally analog singers. We still pay money to see some Frankie!

  • AG

From a non-Beyonce stan, Mr. Santana is wrong....Beyonce has such a unique voice, and can sing her face off. I think she's not making music that even lives up to her singing capability. He got this one wrong.

  • Naptastical

Thank you!! People act like we HAVE to like Bey. Damn she 'aight but I'm tired of people trying to force her down my throat. It's never that deep.

  • Naptastical

I agree. She had a nice voice but she ain't no Jennifer Hudson. Different strokes for different folks.

  • AG

Adele is an awesome singer....But she doesn't have anything near the soulful voice that Beyonce (or Amy Winehouse....yes, I went there).

  • Anji

In all my decades we are currently in a society that is racializing everything, whether worthy or not and it's draining.

  • KHJ2016

The big issue is that Beyonce doesn't write her own music. I believe the previous winners of this award (within the last few years), wrote their own music.

  • Fred G sanford

That couldn't be further from the truth she actually can sing, not as good as Bigdel but better than a lot of people

  • hottlanta

    Dayum skippy wheelchairs and all.

  • Jay

Santana took it old school. I understand what he is trying to say. But , Beyonce can sing. It's more because of the material she chooses. It's not mature. It's bubble gum. But lets not get it twisted. She is gifted with a voice. She can sing Adele songs and make them sound good i'm sure.

  • Naptastical

I was just thinking the other day. As many damn writers and producers Beyoncé has on all her albums I hardly ever hear her thank them. She thanks her fans and family but no long lists like other artists do. No shoutout to other artists who were featured on her album either. Correct me if I'm wrong.

  • Mirella

    Preach!

  • Anji

In regards to Best Album of the Year, we who vote are not isolating singing abilities in this category. An artist can have a best album because of stellar lyrical content, concept of the body of songs presented and production. In a lot of popular categories, it depends on whether a record label promoted said album and at what costs. That's why I say these award shows shouldn't matter.

  • Dr.Rue

Beyonce is the complete package. She can sing her tale off. Carlos is tripping. Adele would not be famous if she was Black & fat.

  • hottlanta

I remember when the movie Dreamgirls came out and they were heavily promoting Beyoncé and leaving out Jennifer Hudson on purpose because Bey was everywhere alone on the magazine covers. Some folks got wind of it and they changed the promotion of the movie and included Jennifer Hudson because the movie was about Jennifer Hudson character not Bey. Bey was suppose to have her song "Listen" as the song to be promoted from the movie but Jennifer Hudson version of "I Am You" on the back burner. I was glad they did that. I saw the theatre version of Dreamgirls and I would not have gone to see it because Bey was in it. I would have gone to see it for the storyline and hear Jennifer Hudson sing.

  • Elevated Soul

LMAO @ Carlos Santana for telling that real truth!...Carlos is a real artist.I'm in my 20's and I know all about Carlos Santana. Beyonce is just a tired gimmick for anyone that knows music!

I know this will make the ridiculous Beybots hella mad,but who cares.

  • Tammie Reed

Yep, agreed... J Lo cant sing a lick lol

  • Anji

But your examples were electronically enhanced..thus saith the producer/sound engineer/voice coach. Bey can carry a tune, her delivery is often forced. When she stays in her limited lane, she does well. Same with Adele. That is the gift of longevity when you're not great songstresses, stay in your lane and sell your product. Everyone can't have great pipes.

  • Angela

    "Bigdel"??!!??....I'm going to join Liz-Beth!!!....

  • mariap

LOL!!!!! Welp, tell us how you really feel.....lol!!!!!!

  • Angela

Fantasia has a unique one in a trillion voice IMO....Of course they don't compare to her....Fantasia is on a whole other level....

  • Anji

Carlos is a consummate musician. Bey is not. Adele is not. He has mastered is craft. They have not. They make money to entertain. Carlos is a true artiste. I refuse to rank these females using vocal standards such as mezzo, contralto. These designations are for us who gig in La Scala. Who study voice as the instrument and know how to manipulate the chords, diaphragm and maintain that delicate hook-up from breath to delivery. They are not trained as such and both have a limited natural range, although they force above and with Bey also below. Neither could hold their own without the use of microphones and electronics used to sustain tones.

  • Shira Harding-James

As much as I love Beyoncé, I get what he's saying, because I was thinking the same thing on Sunday. However Beyoncé is a performer and Adele is not simple as that.

  • Lovers & Friends

I love Beyonce's music and have so since she first came out with Destiny's Child. However, when I first truly listened to an Adele song I was left in tears. "Don't you remember me". Adele puts her heart and soul into her songs. Mainly because she writes them. Beyoncé cannot convey that emotion because she's not singing songs she written. Its always so ghostwriter (Solange) and she can't proper convey the emotion. Everyone already knows she's a bad actress. Adele deserved her awards and Beyoncé hers. How about the unspoken artist who's music is slept on.

  • Anji

Her contralto notes are so obviously forced. Giving voice to a pitch or tone doesn't mean it is in your range. Her range is limited, as is Adele's. Neither is a great singer, but Bey is a great performer. Skilled musicians do not consider eiher of these women great singers. And as long as they're happy at entertaining it's all good.

  • Lovers & Friends

Adele doesn't have to have that soulful voice to convey the feelings and intimacy that she puts into her music. As far as Beyoncé, she's a great singer but vocally no more gifted than Adele.

  • rayne215

Nah. What he won't do and act like Adele can sing better than beyonce. Beyonce has wayyyy more range than Adele. Beyonce is a singer who will give you show. And Adele wants to stand up there and sing which is ok also. But not going to act like Adele is some gods gift to singing. Someone said beyonce is to bubble gum, we'll she gave you drama in lemonade (and in her last album if we being honest) and still got looked over

  • Lovers & Friends

I meet Carlos Santa at Whole Foods in Atlanta once. I was taken back at how tall he was. I also didn't realize that his wife is a black woman actually in his band. Both are tall statuesque people.

  • nick c

People that don't like singing usually into hood rapping I could said Jeezy be he decade old too.

  • parisjok dean

but you have to respect someone's opinion who has been in the music business for over four longgggggggg decades even if you don't agree

  • Benjamin

Ok girl, your entitled to your opinion. Nonetheless, like I said before, "Beyonce is a vocal beast".

  • Anji

It doesn't set the bar, it created the bar's standard. Most of our great singers no matter the genre hail from a Black church. Now all Black churches aren't Baptist or COGIC, they don't all make loud noise. This phenomena exists because it usually exposes a child born with a musical ear an early opportunity to grow that craft well before being discovered by or approaching the industry.

  • parisjok dean

    right

  • Lovers & Friends

Beyoncé has about 13 Grammys. I don't see how that is being looked over.

  • nick c

If black people don't like R&B and pop they usually into trap wack music.

  • Lovers & Friends

What is your opinion on Chante Moore and Chrisette Michelle

  • Erin Blockabitch

His ex-wife is also Black. I'm taken aback that people would accuse him of being "racist" when he has always been an outspoken proponent of civil rights and pro-Black. Smh

  • Anji

Carlos realizes JLo can't sing and wouldn't be so disrespectful as to mention her name alongside Beyonce or Adele. Caucasians can sing...Caucasian music. It requires different techniques and presents without passion or uses restraint with passion, thus lacking soul.

  • Lovers & Friends

You are right. He was here for an immigration march that day. I had just left the gym and was too embarrassed to approach him.

  • ?Patty Kakes?

First off. Someone that plays the guitar should never voice an opinion on someones vocal ability. It's like a hip hop dance tell a ballet dance what to do. It's in the same field but two different worlds. I'm sure he didn't mean anything by it. But I must make this point he chose the vocalist for his song smooth. That just goes to show you he doesn't know much about vocal ability

  • Erin Blockabitch

I agree with your last sentence. There are far too many plus-size Black women who can sing their asses off but their careers haven't taken off because they're not a size 2 or 4. Maysa is so slept on. She is successful overseas but can't break ground in the states because of her weight. Jazmine Sullivan is so damn underrated, it's unfair. Folks love the novelty of the white woman who can do something traditionally or stereotypically "Black." Amy Winehouse never got her props. Adele wouldn't have a leg to stand on if Amy was still alive.

  • Erin Blockabitch

When you see a legend, approach them. I'm sure it means everything for them to know you appreciate what they do. I've seen a few in my lifetime and I make it a point to respectfully approach and let them know how impactful their work is to me.

If only I could meet Pam Grier and Chaka Khan... ??

  • Judas & GOD

Signing like u were at someone funeral don't make you an amazing singer..in couple years no one will care about Adele because no one remember her songs

  • Anji

The British have historically studied our musical delivery. They never achieve a true Black sound, but they have eschewed their own white sound which doesn't use riffs, runs, growls and has straight tones without bending. In the 20th century they began trying to copy as Al Jolson did. In the last 3 decades when attending most blues concerts all you see is yts. They pay for funerals, help support families of legendary musicians. I question why we don't come out and support our history. They are famous jazz enthusiasts also. White patrons drive jazz and we shouldn't let it happen.

  • Erin Blockabitch

A lot of people know a voice is an instrument. Truly talented vocalists know how to emulate the sounds a musician makes when playing their instrument(s). Vocals have notes the same way instruments do, but because a lot of vocalists today don't know how to read music, they can't emulate certain sounds. I fault producers for that as well. I can't f*ck with a producer who can't play an instrument or can't hold a note. (Ex: Puffy)

  • Judas & GOD

Adele is nothing new for us black people ..we already have Aretha ..FYI I love both

  • Anji

I know and love Carlos. He knows the history of African roots and Black rhythms more than African and Afr-Am musicians and public-at-large could imagine or care to know. I love discourse with a knowledgeable musician in regards to my roots. He's got it and uses the Yoruba bata rhythms all up in his sound.

  • Anji

He does sing, at least as well as these do. Also dances. Most of us ol' school industry musicians usually don't stick to one thing or one culture.

  • bella28498 .

people keep saying Beyonce isn't a singer but every time I heard her live she sound very good... Adele fat husky voice is not the whip and who want to go to a concert and watch a pig stand and sing all evening. Carlos Santana you are not a singer go grab u a seat you ole white hispanic you.

  • ?Patty Kakes?

True. My motto is....If you can't do what I do, then don't tell me how to do it. That's the problem with the music industry. There are a lot of Jews that run and own music labels and can't hold a note if you gave it to them in a glass. That's why a lot of great artist are struggling or was dropped from labels thats VERY talented. It really breaks my heart to see that

  • hottlanta

I figured it out. Adele been in the basement listening to Phyllis Hyman albums. They have the same range and for those who don't know Phyllis like we do they think it is something new. Adele copied her mannerisms and everything but she is no Ms, Hyman

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_HXiO951tBc

  • ?Patty Kakes?

That's for sure. I could only imagine the hurting Phyllis would have put on Hello

  • Tlowe89

He's right.... sorta. Beyonce use to sing, but then Jay Z started managing her and that changed

  • Erin Blockabitch

YES!!! Beyonce wants to be where Mr. Santana is. There's no point in using certain imagery when your lyrics and music don't reflect such. She just exploits roots and culture on some fake depth.

I remember when she gave a Vibe magazine article saying she was immersing herself in the works of Shuggie Otis. From that, she gave us Bootylicious. You can study the greats all day, but that won't make you great. You can borrow and steal from the greats, but that won't make you great. You've either got it or you don't. People who know music, not just listeners but true musicians and vocalists know Beyonce isn't out here selling shit but wolf tickets.

  • Anji

The industry is more image driven than offering unique talent than in my era. I have clients who produce great albums and they get shelved because of image. It's all about money. At the end of the day I feel sorry for the generation that has these two to represent them as "singers". In my era they wouldn't even pass as session singers. No distinctive sound from either, but I respect anyone with courage to survive an industry that's eats folks alive and shreds their souls for coins.

  • ALLMINE

There's a video of her singing and balling her eyes out.. that's what I call music.. make u feel something. It was sad to watch. .

  • Just An Observation

I enjoyed Bruno, Alicia and 'em, Lady Gaga/Metallica, Morris and his crew. The others made me lose interest too fast. At the Grammy Awards Show performances should consist of great choreography and/or your best vocals. When I buy a cd, I'm putting it in my car & (or if I download the song on my playlist) that ish better have top vocals. To heck with a video. Be glad she won an award for that.... Best Video. Not understanding why it's so hard to comprehend.

  • Anji

When folks are in the industry for several decades it doesn't matter what your 1st instrument is, you can judge vocals. Most instrumentalists I know can sing as well as Adele or Bey, or better. If they studied at Julliard or Berklee they have to earn credits singing no matter their instrument. Musicians make great session singers as they know harmonics and pitch better than many.

  • Li

I think people including me see Beyonce more as a stage performer. She's Las Vegas IMO. I can't remember more than 2 Beyonce songs ("Listen" and I'm still here) because she doesn't make memorable music. Come to think of it, most of these young artists (exc. Bruno) don't make memorable music. Maybe that's why country stars are so big and have a big following, because they sing and they sing memorable songs.

I can go with Santana and Adele does have a "voice" ala Streisand and Aretha. I love voices. Jennifer Hudson, Tori Kelly, women;men who can stand in front of a mic and just sing.

Beyonce does a lot of performance art sh^t and if that's what you like, then sobeit.

  • Erin Blockabitch

Jews know talent, though. They have to know it to exploit it. They don't want to give Black people what we deserve because most of us don't feel worthy.

Too many of us would feel lost if we listened to music that didn't have "bitch," "ho" or "nigga" every other word. That's not the Jews' fault.

Same goes for television. Lala's reality show was "boring," so now all we see are Real Housewives who aren't married spending money they don't have to impress people they don't like or Love & Hip Hop where there's a bunch of hate and no one releasing a damn album yet they're always in someone's studio. ????

At some point, we have to take accountability for our lack of ownership of our work products. David Banner owns his masters. That was part of his deal with Universal. Queen Latifah was giving artists ownership of their masters with Flavor Unit Records. Niggas opted to remain on the slave ships with Jimmy Iovine and Clive Davis, so she had to continue looking out for self and building her own empire. I overstand.

I've had plans for myself that I've shared with my people in hopes that we all prosper, but everyone doesn't want to pay dues and do the work it takes to get to Yemen, so they stay in the projects. I can't imagine there being any joy in poverty or lack, but thankfully, I have never been there.

I teach Music History often and I assure you in 20 years neither of these 2 will earn even half a chapter or a lecture. They entertain but don't create seminal vocal art. Now Beyonce's recent explorations and acknowledgment of Yoruba may grow into something everlasting. I can only wait and see if it's a passing phase.

I always thought as she matured her voice wasn't that apealing to me. I feel like she rushes through her songs. Im a major music listener.. she sings thenm once and that's it. She didn't always sound so displaced in the beginning of her career..

  • Anji

He can judge vocalists. My first mastered instrument was piano, then horns, then strings. Carlos is not limited to being "just a guitar player". Most serious musicians are multi-talented. When you're in the studio and it's your "baby" you best know how to tell vocalists how to project the notes you need to hear on your music. When a composer chooses sidemen, it's not because they can't sing. We don't have to wear all of the hats at all times. That's called creativity in production.

Adele can't sing live though lol.... She sounds awful during her live performances.

Most great producers can sing, or at least direct a singer no matter what their 1st instruments are. There's been times when a vocalist doesn't show up and well trained producers can replace them, the drummer because they are concept driven and time is money. In my family we can direct dancers, choreograph, harmonize, script the dang video. Maybe it's ol' school but I trained my nephews that way. They can rig a recording studio for analog also, and understand the physics behind it.

Hmmm I think she has plenty of memorable songs. If you don't remember well that's you.. I like country as well and yes you have to really know how to sing. It the same goes for RNB. Hudson can really sing I just can't stand the way her singing voice sounds. For me she has no memorable music. I love voices too so I think that's why I like various genres... let me fall in love with a voice lol then I fall in love with the genre.

I understand all that you saying. I don't think that know talent. I think they know what they like and take a chance on it. That's why someone come out with and album and it's a great album but didn't do very well because of lack of promotion and you look again that they have put out two more albums that you never knew about, but they would take a song like hotline bling and do all that they can to blow it up. That within itself lets me know it's not about the voice it's about the package. For example Nina Simone had to die before she was noticed for her ability, and I think it was all about her package. Just look at who they choose to play her in the movie all because they wanted her looks to be more appealing. There are plenty of black actors and singers that they could have chosen, but they choose someone that they thought everyone could relate too without giving a thought how it would effect her family or race

You said "great producers." I don't recall saying "great." I'm not referring to people who are worth their salt. I'm referring to the people working in popular music today. I know my aesthetics are "old school," as you stated, because people do very little on merit these days. Short-term gratification and gimmicks override talent in the industry.

There were few solid performances at The Grammys this year. Folks were so busy grandstanding or pretending, but few people came to show up and show out and put their gifts on display. Lady Gaga wanted to be Wendy O. Williams of The Plasmatics. Metallica are always themselves and they always kill it. Beyonce still doesn't know who she wants to be. Adele wants to perform without having to redo her shit. Katy Perry wanted to make a political statement. Some people want to hear real music. I guess Jessie J. was booked because she sure could've subbed in for Katy. After hearing Jessie outshine Katy on every popular Katy Perry song, I'm surprised Katy still has a career.

However what you are seeing is all Tina, she has always dabbled in witchcraft, voodo/yoruba/hoodo after she split from Matthew she dove deeper in the occult, and began influencing Beyonce to slip visuals in her public photos and music videos and began exploring using spells in Beyonces music and stage peformances.Tina now fancies her self a Priestess or Mother Goddess due to a weirdo spiritualist she met while dealing with emotional trauma of her divorce. Whatever your belief , Tina, Beyonce, Solange, are not trying to get in touch with ancient african roots of Spirituality...

@Anji - I concur! I have studied and practice music for a few years at Sherwood Conservatory of Music...and I don't think my Music/Voice Professor would say neither Beyonce or Adele passed the smell test of clear true distinct range or perfect pitch tone as it relates to voice. js. I like both ladies as a performer, they have their own style, but, Beyonce is more of an entertainer to me and seems as though she sings from her throat....Adele, can belt some notes from her gut, but it's her tone that may be a tad bit off. IMO...but, hey I'm not complaining about either one of the ladies!!! As they say "not my monkey' s, nor my circus!" Peace.

didn't watch the Grammy's but I can tell you this.... Adele's album is still in rotation ... love in the dark is a favorite of mines.. Bey azz got 3 damn songs on that Lemonade album that to me are likeable .... and this chick gets a team of writers for her album... Adele ... she writes her on shyt ... sorry but aye... it is what it is... to be honest the award Bey got was just given to her... what can you say she is Bey... It's actually sad how she has been hyped up as a artist when really it's her team that are thee true artist and inspiration .... Hell her ideas ain't even her ideas.... Everything is inspired by something which is fine but damn.. She acts or portrays as if she created the inspiration ... Very unoriginal ... Just saying... Hell Adele is unique .... It's genuine...

I certainly agree with Carlos Santana's PROFESSIONAL OPINION! But, to say he isn't qualified to speak on it because he doesn't sing is pretty unbelievable! To call him a racist because he doesn't believe Beyonce was robbed, and explained, here's why...Of course, many disagree with him, as well as agreed. But, Santana is more than qualified to speak on this topic!

That would be like saying Quincy Jones isn't qualified to speak on Beyonce! Like you say, people need to listen to other music genres, then we would better understand how Adele or even Taylor Swift can win these big awards! We're less than 15% of the US population, and even then, everyone will not be a fan our biggest music stars (Beyonce, Rihanna, Alicia Key, Nicki Minaj)!

Chaka Khan, Janet (lite vocals and all), Whitney, Sade, Anita Baker just made the music (competition was fierce), even Madonna (more a performing artist, than a singer) had mad hits (Holiday, Vogue, Human Nature, forever!). They had a music catalog that is still timeless today! But, so did Shania Twain, Faith Hill, Salt N Pepa, and EnVogue!

These singers didn't go for a crown, their music spoke for itself and for them! Jill Scott, Ledisi, or Goapele are singers that weren't given the full-blast, buzz or marketing machine as the music industry changed, but people still know or remember the difference between a vocalist, and a performer-entertainer who sings (Beyonce CAN sing)!

  • Evillene

Many in the industry are not convinced of Bey's artistry. She is a great performer and her visual presentation is always rock solid. However, she is not a musician and it is not clear how much creative involvement she has in making the music.

  • Peter Piper ATL

Beyonce is a Pop performer. She simply does not have the vocal ability to be considered a Soul singer and she is only a little better then mediocre as an R&B singer.

She is, however, a terrific overall performer. But she's not a fantastic singer and she has a limited range. Now, you know that music has evolved so much over the years. Expectations have been drastically lowered. Were this 1971, for instance, an era when Black music required a strong vocal sill set, Beyonce would not even have a record deal. That's just being honest.

But the rise of Pop in the 1980s and its influence on Black music changed the standard and ultimately opened the door for people like Beyonce, Ashanti and Ciara, so much so that music consumers no longer really remember or know what true vocal talent really is.

MUCH of the current music industry membership thinks Beyonce is overrated. I shared with y'all last week that Mariah has always thought Beyonce can't sing and she's right. Bey is a great performer but only a marginal singer.

  • starbright9449

We all know Adele can sing...Except for a few of those terrible times she couldn't sing live and her voice kept screeching but anyway... Can she sing and dance at the same time?

  • Peter Piper ATL

Adele is overrated. Her voice is warm but it lacks personality and depth, although her fans claim otherwise. She is the direct benefactor of Amy Winehouse being dead, along with the fact that the industry has been looking for a new Lisa Stansfield but have had trouble finding one for years.

The best British songstress I think that Americans have ever heard was Lisa Stansfield. She had great soul and depth in her voice and could sing rings around Beyonce AND Adele.

She's still beloved by many fans but the industry knows she's too old to be marketed in the way that Adele can be. Unfortunately, Adele is overrated and I'm glad she sees that herself.

  • pika12

He's entitled to his opinion but based on his logic I guess that would mean no black singer is a real singer because none of them are winning AOTY,(only 3 in history have managed to do so and one had to record her father's classics in order to get the recognition Natalie Cole) I guess only white singers are singers. Beyonce, Jennifer Hudson, Alicia Keys, Jill Scott, Aretha Franklin, Patti Labelle, and on and on, none of them are singers. But Taylor Swift who has won AOTY twice, I guess she's a singer singer. It's all a load of crap.

ohhh. so you decided to be presumptuous, ignorant and overgeneralize all at the same time? boy bye. perhaps you need to take your arse out of the hood and diversify your network of black people or meet some.

  • nick c

I live in the hood I don't trust black people that try to act white.

  • jussaying

i've seen both. but that's not the point i was making. i get irritated with people thinking hollering and woohooing and oohing loudly is "sanging." i don't want to hear that chit. by all standards that you guys go on about, fantasia is a "great" real singer. but i can't stand her voice. she sounds like a sexualized cookie monster to me and that if i were in the front row i'd be covered in spit three minutes into her first set. Sade is a favorite of mine, but she doesn't utilize vibrato, doesn't scream and doesn't have a bunch of adlibs where she goes down a bunch of runs.

i care less about "vocal talent," than i do about the musicianship and artistry of the person's actual song. are they using real instruments? are the melodies good? do the lyrics have some depth to them that make me think? yet to have a "soulful" song all y'all care about is if the person can belt. that's not soul to me, soulful is if the music moves me and is the music introspective. this is why i love chris martin as a writer. dude has a degree in english literature w an emphasis on poetry and his lyrics are actual poetry. this is why i think good rock music is soulful. band of horses. of monsters and men. minus the bear... the content in there spans topics that reach past romantic love. this is also why i loved the great rnb singers of past generations. we have no more donny hathaways and someday we'll all be frees. no stevie and living in the cities. no marvin. no tammi.

this is also why i love solange and not her sister. all of her music has been introspective. she's been able to showcase real artistry. talk about real issues. make conceptual albums with well thought out theses. beyoncé not so much. even her biggest hit formation was a disjointed mess and the lyrics were full of contrite banalities of black culture.

but music is subjective... as is talent. and i don't care how many degrees one has - music is always personal just like art and moves and touches people in different ways. which again, is why i don't understand all this back and forth about people arguing over who can sing who can't and who is good or isn't.

for the record, i've seen both of these women live before. and they both put on a good show. granted, i saw adele back when 19 was released in a small intimate venue and i think that's where she should stay. small venues bc her show is less spectacle than beyoncé's.

  • jussaying

lol wait. so you just vilified people that like trap music and now you're vilifying people with broad interests as well? dude pick a damn side and stick to it. or better yet, just say you hate yourself and everything black and be done with it.

Cindy is BAD. And so was first wife

  • Mcd15

Never said he was just some dude that listens to the radio. I say him saying she's just nice to look at and model clothes is b.s.

  • morenYAHdelsur

    That part! LOL

I enjoy his music! My dad really does! But...she's still Bey! Beyoncé is a singer and overall entertainer. Dassit! Idk why people are comparing her and Adele and Idk why people go so hard either LOL.

  • KDub

He said she makes very nice modeling music. Carlos Santana is right, Beyonce is not a singer but an amazing performer, one of THE BEST performers. He even has performed with her. She just is not his personal choice. As to who is he to say it....he is some one who actually won a Grammy for this same category that is being discussed. He has his own daggone Album of The Year Grammy. Makes him no expert. Ok it might. I feel he can speak on it if asked. He was indeed asked. This is his opinion. Either folks gonna agree or disagree

  • Kayke

Check your reading comprehension. He said it was "modeling music" music "to model a dress" as if her music is for fashion shows and events... exactly what I use Beyoncé for.... "getting spruced for an outing" or warming up for a workout. None of Beyoncé music will have me remember a moment in my life, like Adele's music does. So Santana is on point, for me.

  • KDub

    +1

  • Mcd15

    Ok

  • KDub

    When asked
    ^^^^^^^
Please keep this in mind you commenting ass Beyhivers. Santana not running around here just giving out unsolicited opinions on music.

    He was ASKED.

He can't say what he feels truly....why? Bc it's Beyonce?

    Stop yall chit.?

  • Desi

    True, true.......

  • kekeb

Beyonce is an ENTERTAINER not JUST a singer. The dancers and props are to enhance her performance not to compensate for her lack of singing abilities. Adele isn't an entertainer. She's a singer hence the reason she would NOT have been ENTERTAINING at the Super Bowl that year.

  • kekeb

Usually, I don't always agree with u, but you NAILED it!!! The death of Amy Winehouse meant less competition for Adele.
    RIP Amy Winehouse

  • kekeb

Huh?! U seriously don't like ANY of Adele's music?!

  • kekeb

    ????????????????????????????????????????????????????

  • kekeb

You didn't have to call her husky tho

  • Hell_On_Heelz

I agree. A good friend of mines host an annual Holiday Gospel concert, I HATE going. All that falling out & screaming just seems so unauthentic.

  • Minx Mosaic

Correction: the industry has been looking for their great white hype. They thought Brittany Spears was their girl until she went crazy shaving her head and beating car windows with umbrellas. Then Christina then Gaga. They've really been trying. However, they truly know that no white singer in the history of singing can fade Beyonce. They're only trying to stir the pot with this latest effort of Adelle. Also the media keeps pushing to revive and keep alive their whole agenda for a race war. They knew what they were doing with letting Adelle win over Beyonce but what they didn't anticipate was Adelle's humbling speech praising Bey and shedding some light on the fact that we know what this is all about. Adelle was basically telling the world, "I'm not going to play into the industry's hand at helping them start this race war. I'm going to let the world know that along with everyone else I too know that Lemonade should've won. So now let's bring in someone who we don't mind sacrificing. Introducing Santana... He doesn't mind sacrificing himself. Hell, he needs the money. And while we're at it, let's try to get the Blacks against the Hispanics AGAIN. We fall for this crap everytime. While our governments' passing bills that's destroying our lives, hopes and dreams.

  • FlyMiss

Of course its an open post... it's about Beyonce

  • what?why

The members of the Academy voted for the singer.

  • YES I SAID IT…

I must admit he has a good point BUT Adele and Beyonce are in two different lanes. I am not a Beehive but I must say their style and music is totally different and they should not be compared. But he is entitled to his own opinion just like everyone else so nobody should be really mad! Beyonce don't care bcuz she's still making money and I guess what they say nowadays is she's still winning so it is what it is. But a lot of y'all please stop going so HARD for Bey like y'all and her are besties!

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

I agree with everything. Taylor Swift says it all.

  • nicelyput32

    Nicely put?

  • 2brefrank

Carlos sir, I agree wholeheartedly. Just talked about this the other day on another post. sing the song and sit down sometimes, all this occult symbolism, gestures, dancers with fire and water, and gyrating and trying to mesmerize crowds is exhausting to say the least.

I heard on another website that Adele said she wanted Beyonce to be her Mom during her acceptance speech.....this is why i say this girl is super demonic. Why would a grown woman want another grown woman to be her mother? That whole antic she did at the awards mesmerized Adele into wanting to be mothered by her LOL. AND/OR she was scared Jay's goons were going to kill her off.

Anyway. I'm having a good day. So, Just as an FYI I am not responding to any bee hive members today-- she's already taken up too much of my life this week. Over her!

  • Doink_Ahanahue

I agree with him. The Beyonces, Rihannas, Ciaras are all entertainers. They can sing per se, but their strength is putting on a show. Adele is not an entertainer, but if you want to hear a singer, she is one of them. Even the depth of Adele's lyrics in most songs is stronger. Just my $0.02

  • MzApple

    ALL OF THIS

  • Freeriah

He's a hater cause Bey can really sing. She can't help it cause she sexy and a great performer too. I think Adele is okay but her voice isn't very flexible. She sounds the same in every song.

  • DroneRivers

    lmao!

  • 2brefrank

Finally, someone who gets me! Well said! It's all PR with Beyonce...i just don't find her to be authentic. She's man made material. I want to listen to authenticity, originality, the real thing.

To me her voice inflections sound like a ghost. Every song is very ghostly, sounding like it's trying to hypnotize you or something. Which is why her voice is not allowed in my house. My kids don't listen to ghosts sing before bedtime.

  • KDub

Adele is a member of the Academy and she voted for Beyonce. So she claims

  • 2brefrank

    I agree, she's more of a rapper/talker now.

  • Di Ana

Carlos have several seats! Calling Beyoncé sister and saying that she is beautiful does not overshadow the hate you just spewed. He's down right disgusting! ?

  • KJOURNEY

    exactly

  • KJOURNEY

    EXACTLY

  • iWasteTime

    Phuck You Carlos!
Beyonce could sing when you guys preformed together at the Superbowl?
    Today she can't?!?! #FOH

  • KJOURNEY

    EXACTLY
    BEYONCE CAN ACTUALLY SING

  • Satin Panther

omg Thank you! Adele's song's will have you crying over a break up you had in kindergarten and chit!

  • LeeSeeCee

Carlos was absolutely correct. The academy chose the singer not the entertainer. Besides, he was asked and he gave his opinion AND he said it with respect in regards to Beyonce. There is no drama here, just plain old truth.

  • Erica

Lmao we sure know nothing about our true history! That whole antic as you called it was far from demonic we been so brainwashed by white Jesus we think that demonic ish is who we are. Her performance was an ode to the African Orisha Goddess Oshun. Orishas are the tribe of the sun and Oshun is the goddess of beauty, love, prosperity, order and fertility. We need to stop chasing the slave masters bull and learn truly who we are!! Why would someone who enslaved you give a religion that's supposed to save you. They wouldn't do that at all they just used it to remove all memory of your greatness! To be clear not a beehive member at all could really careless but I know African Spirituality when I see it!

  • NegraGata

I like some of her music, but I really PREFER her music when other people sing it...

  • Nala Shakur

    He didn't say anything false...
    He actually said it perfectly.

  • bemetoo

Now you know damn well Adele will knock Janet back to 1979 with her voice

  • S. Williams

I personally feel that A Seat At The Table should've won. Solange really the winner in my book as far as AOTY

  • Quitedeliteful

LOLLOLLOLLOL!!! Can I borrow some just i,n case?

  • Libra80sBaby

I can definitely agree with the fact that Adele sounds the same in EVERY song.

  • NegraGata

I Love Phyllis Hyman, "I" think her vocal range is greater than Whitney Houston and that's saying a lot.

If I were to pick a person that I feel could embody Phyllis is this day and age it's Candice Glover. She didn't get the props she deserved on AI.

As far as Adele and Beyonce, to each their own opinion, I prefer Beyonce over Adele because Beyonce doesn't bore me.

  • Libra80sBaby

Adele just stands there and sings because that is all she can do. She KNOWS this and stays in her lane. Beyonce is an all around entertainer so she sings AND dances. I do however, wish Beyonce would cover more ballads like she used to on albums like Dangerously In Love.

  • TOO REAL

    Can't knock the truth.

  • Guest

I don't think Adele is overrated. She is a decent singer but she is no Amy Winehouse. I think they did latch onto her because of Amy's death. I really want Andra Day to blow up though. I love her voice.

  • 2brefrank

YESHUA (Jesus) IS LORD! Don't care about whatever else u talbout! Orisha is a demi god. I don't serve or praise little g gods bew. I praise the creator of my being and the entire universe. Go'on girl with your racist antic. "White Jesus" that is so racist.

I don't' know His color, but i do know He died for me and saved my soul, when i'm in HIs presence there is nothing like it and Orisha has nothing on Him.

that's all i'm gonna say about that. Bye bew.

  • Baron

While I prefer the singers of yesteryear - Ella, Carmen, Lena, Billie, Nina, to say Beyonce can't sing is ludicrous. Adele has a very pretty voice, but she does not have the power nor range that Beyonce does. We all know if Adele was black, she'd be a "Chrisette Michelle". Not even that!

  • S. Williams

ok like the fact that ppl agree with him but don't see the effed up logic behind his words is beyond me. get past the hatred of beyonce. she is classically trained and has sat her arse down many a time to just deliver her voice and it's the voice of a "singer, singer" carlos can go somewhere with that wack ass comparison. much more respect would've been given to his statement had he made one of validity

Edit: and at this point we are comparing albums as a whole body of work NOT just the ability of someone to sing and Adele's album was outshined by Bey, Solo, AND Rih. 25 was NOT 21 by any means and was not worthy of an award for a full body of work. Period

  • Kanyade

perhaps this is what happens when you make a visual album and those visuals and subsequent popularity of said visuals outweigh the musicality of the album?

or the visuals overshadow the musicality of the album.

    Bless.

  • Kanyade

I'm late in this discussion but want ton say to you @disqus_1mqPg1P59b:disqus that I have thoroughly enjoyed you dropping knowledge and wisdom from a scholarly standpoint regarding all of this. Great gems.

  • Indies beauty

    Your canceled Santana!

  • jayhawkpride

Is he sure? Did he hear Adele stop the song and start over because she was singing off-key or the other video that surfaced of her sounding horrible!!

  • Renee26

Beyonce has some good ballads too don't sleep on her vocals just because she is a performance artist....and I think Bey is actually more of a pop artist than Adele is...Adele won so many awards because like J Cole said...THEY steal our sounds and snatch up all the Grammy's. Adele has a GREAT voice but she is FAR from pop. I haven't heard 25 but 19 and 21 both were nowhere near a pop album.

  • Calikush

    ???

  • Lisa jones

Her vocals are ok. I get what he is saying. I think Solange got more vocals than bey and artisty.

  • ?Patty Kakes?

True. I as a vocalist I know that. I just don't think its right for him to pass judgement on her vocal abilities. I'm sure he would feel the same way if she had said something about his guitar ability. Don't get me wrong, I'm no Beyonce fan. It just really bother me when someone down plays another person ability that can't do what they can do.

  • digital_femme

People are entitled to their own opinions, and other folks are entitled to disagree. I personally don't understand the full-court press vitriol some fans use to defend an artist and the energy they put into it but good for them I guess? Can just scroll through it cause at the end of the day the same things are being said, and these people have their multi-million dollar lives and we have ours!

  • Mrs Mary

I dont worship MYTHS THAT IS MYTHICAL BOO! Im currently taking a Mythology class so I know!!! Sandra can we please ger a medical minute on Myths???? Thx

  • ?Patty Kakes?

Your right. Beyonce started out that way. With every album Beyonce was starting to lose me, and after i am I was pretty much done buying her music

  • ?Patty Kakes?

And all those albums pretty much sound the same.

  • Renee26

Yes...we listen to them when we are in a down mood. Boring but soothing

  • ?Patty Kakes?

I love George Michael. I had no idea what song she was singing. It was terrible. I'm no Beyonce fan but one thing's for sure. if she would have did a tribute to somebody it would have been on point.

  • Full Monty

Yeah because we all know that Taylor Swift is such a great singer when she won her AOTY over Bey FOH old man! No one will remember Adele's album but they will remember the Lemonade album. Even when the truth is in front of your face, folks turn their heads.

  • ?Patty Kakes?

You forgot Sarah Vaughan Lol. I don't even thing she could even deal with Chrisette. she has different facets to her voice Adelle doesn't. Evething sound the same and the notes are almost always in the same range

  • ?Patty Kakes?

I just said the same thing afew posts ago???

  • 19awesomegrl97

he is right bey is a performer...she doesnt have the vocal abilities that Adele does...

  • ?Patty Kakes?

19, 21 and 25 sounds like they could have all been recorded at the same time and released at different times

  • http://www.NeCola.Mayvenn.com Chile_Pleeze
  • AListDiva29

I think this is the first album where Beyoncé was actually trying to say something instead of the putting on the dog and pony show with all the distractions! It's a shame she didn't win at least 1 of the 3 Adele got, but I don't think her not winning is a racial thing. Adele doesn't do all the theatricals she just has her voice, she's a raw talent. Beyoncé is a great singer and doesn't need all the sexual stuff, but that's what America markets to its consumers and thinks that's what they want. I'd rather see more singers just singing then all the big productions. I think that's what he meant!

  • TaylorFinallyMadeIt

    I agree

  • shell

Adele with her flat, screeching off key notes

  • LibraGirlonly

Adele is sooooo boring but I'm more interested in music my people sing not some boring white woman.

  • stanhope

Old ass, irrelevant, carlos santana needs to sit in the rocker at the old folks home in the senile, hasn't sold a decent amount of records in years corner. He should wipe the slobber from his mouth every time he looks at a picture of her fine azz.

  • stanhope

Girl do some research...find out about the meeting of the inner circle at the grammys that denied Beyonce....when you have the FACTS, speak.

  • Quitedeliteful

Damn!! Took ten people for one lousy song!!! LMBAO!!!

  • stanhope

Gimme a break. Adele sounded awful during the george michael tribute even in the do over.....Bey was beyond fabulous and her album Lemonade was the best by far. She was robbed.

  • stanhope

PREACH THE GOSPEL MY BROTHER! What you said is completely true. He would suggest Selena Gomez is a singer? LOL. He just mad that the only groupies he has are on the senior citizens bus headed for the casino where they still play his s h y t.

  • stanhope

Tell us girl, where do you get your xanax?

  • stanhope

And the do over sucked too

  • MsPam

He didn't say he didn't love Beyoncé, he just stated a fact about her. I first met Carlos when I was seven years old, he was still is one of the kindest people in the world.

  • stanhope

Listen to the song "Freedom" if you still think that, you are a nit wit and we will just move on leaving you behind on your behind.

  • Freeriah

    Right

  • Kjibbers

He is right tho. Beyoncé always lip sings.

  • soflystann

By all means, I am not Stan, however, Carlos needs to sit his old ass down. Beyonce has a beautiful voice just as well as Adele. She was snubbed and boils down to color. Visually and musically, Lemonade was awesome... She should have won the award... Just like Ri Ri should have as well... And how is it that Adele can stop in the middle of a performance, stop, start back over, and receive a standing ovation. But Bey can fall down the stairs and continue as if nothing ever happen. The level of professionalism and hard work that bey displays..is remarkable.

  • ?Patty Kakes?

    ??? it was even worst

  • Tynamight

Adele can sing. That's all I got...

  • Full Monty

Exactly! I'm like hold up Taylor Swift is no powerhouse vocalist yet she won over Beyonce as well. Our people have to be the best of the best of the best in order to win. It's ridiculous.

  • Smith Jane

What?! Lmao no one will or does remember the Lemonade album. Folks spent more time trying to decipher clues about infertility and Becky with the good hair, than they did actually enjoying (or buying) the album. Folks still remember Adele's last album and her singles are still being played and brought. Lemonade was a solid effort but it was mediocre in comparison to Adele.

  • NegraGata

It's lip "sync" your shade tree has no leaves...LOL

  • NegraGata

    I concur!!!

  • Full Monty

Yeah you are right, I guess next time, Bey should stand on one leg, with a plate on her head while singing and giving birth. I guess that will be her solid effort for winning. FOH

  • Smith Jane

The most publicity she got was from Hold Up... everything else just fell on deaf ears... no matter how hard she screeched on freedom

  • Smith Jane

I honestly don't get the hype with Solange's album. Almost every song sounded a like and you could barely hear what she was saying. Solange is a limited singer and sings in the same range on every song. There is so much hype surrounding these women. I just don't get it. I remember hearing Adele's album and falling in love immediately! I don't know if it's a matter of maturity or what, but I just feel like neither Solange or Beyonce can compete with her.

  • Smith Jane

Thank you!!! Love in the dark, a million years ago, send my love, all I ask... lawd!!!! That album stays in rotation!!! I can't with these people who think Lemonade is better... like, where? And to who? The hood rats or Becky with the long hair? The thing that trips me out is that formation required 8 writers!!!! How? The lyrics were so damn bad that I honestly thought beyonce free styled it! Lol smh...

  • Lolalao

Solange should've been nominated and won.

  • Smith Jane

Ha! Don't give her any ideas! That'll probably be the opening @ the BET awards lmao

  • LibraGirlonly

Adele songs are boring and they don't inspire me at all.

  • Love

    POW!

  • LibraGirlonly

We are the best of the best without trying hard. Lol

  • Love

ADELE fucked up last year and this year had to start over... stop defending the obvious. black folks refuse for march with their own.

  • Love

NAME four singles fast off of ADELS album... have a seat.

  • Love

    POW! i totally agree!

  • Love

So why did taylor Swift win two years... and that bitch is wack! IT WAS RACIAL AND EVEN ADELE DOESNT AGREE

  • Smith Jane

Love in the dark. All I ask, hello, a million years ago, send my love... that album is everythang!!! Y'all are tripping up in here ?

  • Lolalao

I like Adele, but she can't walk with Streisand or Aretha.

  • Full Monty

LMAO leave my girl alone mean self.

  • Lolalao

They aren't putting out country artist of the past. It's seems like they're fighting to save the genre.

“Adele can sing, sing. She doesn’t bring all the dancers and props, she can just stand there and she just stood there and sang the song and that’s it, and this is why she wins”.

I live for this kind of foolishness. I wonder how many bees swarmed him. In other words, she is doing way too much but not enough.

Did we get enough vocally from the album or were we blown away by an hour of visuals? In all honesty, Lemonade was okay but without all the cheating speculations and underwater over the top art references they were filler songs.

They sure do. Up to and including her sister who posted a whole entire rant...and then deleted it. To appease WHO? Why didn't she stand by her commentary in re to her own sister. To appease white people is my thought. She starting to be a star in her own right and KNOW she has to play the game. So marching and standing should start at home. ..no?

She has the vocals but sometimes we get carried away into the presentation. She should NOT have cried when Adele was trying to THROW PITY at her. We have got to stop allowing them to "give us a chance" and eat the scraps they throw. Those were scraps. And then to snap the award in half as if she didn't even care about it. Had we snapped a Grammy in half like that we would have never been invited back.

Frank! Listen, Amy is/was an epic singer. She gets heavy rotation from me..Lol I like Bey &Adele, but they can't blow like Amy.

    FRANK!- Wonderful

  • tintin

finally someone that can agree with me on the lemonade album. I too think it was okaaaayyy. i think of all her albums lemonade is the worse and it's not horrible but it ain't great. My co worker here argues it was revolutionary and white ppl now realizing bey is black and about her people. However, that album played once in my life , i haven't listened to it again. Adele I've listened to more and this is coming from a black woman. I will never knock Bey's talent but lemonade was ehhhh. okayyy. she needs to hire her daddy back

  • tintin

so because Adele started over it means she can't sing??? i don't get it.

  • Alicia.Ashe

They are both in the same boat with me voice wise. Neither are powerhouses vocally.

  • Noirluv45

I'm not mad a Carlos, not only because I'm a fan, but because I'm old school (grew up in the 70's) and the singing then is different than now. Now, Adele doesn't nothing for me, so his opinion about her singing is his and not mine, but it's just his generation, I guess.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

She had to do formation to gain her fan base back... Classic PR ... Like she got the people BS... I get it... But nah ... Her songs weren't even on the charts at all like that... But I guess ... The album gets no play hardly but only 3 songs... Adele is the better artist ...

  • Tiffany Miller

Same here... i checked out with "4". And she needs to stop allowing people a view into her process. Showing the world that you basically pay Jesus, Moses, and Justin Timberlake to the Hamptons to write for you is not a good idea. It takes away from the mystique. When you use Hype to sell records, follow through with it to the point where we think you did it all by yourself.

Since she wants to be Michael Jackson, less access is more. I never thought ANYONE but MJ wrote and produced his music.

  • ?Patty Kakes?

I'm just sorry we got so few albums from her before she died

  • Tiffany Miller

Nail on the head. The songs were not all that without the visuals.

  • tintin

you are right, that album was all about becky with the good hair, nothing else. Bey marketed the album right, created a buzz over possible false cheating by her husband the bey hive and all others ran to see what was up.Once purchased we have no choice but to deal with what we hear. the album is not that good people. it really isnt'

That's just a classic album. Lil Kim is a rapper, but her first album is a classic. They aren't making albums like that anymore.

Wait, A Seat At The Table- classic.

  • Lolalao

Her sister. I'm sorry, I think Solange should've been nominated.

  • Lolalao

    It's called"The Great White Hype".

  • Luvn_it

Your right she has more. Adele sings the same music over and over b/c it fits her voice. She is just that a singer Beyonce is a vocalist she doesn't have to box herself into one genre. Just b/c you can sing loud doesn't make you a great singer. Especially when you don't have good pitch which when singing live Adele doesn't. Have good control of your head and chest voice also breathing also things she has some problems w/when singing live. Beyonce has proofed w/her live performances of DIL and Ava Maria which is Opera(which she was trained in) that she can stand w/a mic and sing.

  • Lolalao

I really get upset about that.

  • LibraGirlonly

    I can't name one!

  • 2brefrank

I'm sorry but i wouldn't be shocked if she did this. She's always trying to be EPIC about something. So giving birth on camera sounds about right. LOLL

  • Luvn_it

That's not the real award they give on stage its just a prop. They replaced it soon as she got back stage.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

Taylor Swifts writing is even better than Bey.... Bet literally has others write her shyt including hiring Solo... True artist don't do that for the most they just don't ... And folks finally see the truth... It is what it is.... Her team are the true artist and I give them props.... She is just the person that displays their artistry simple... The demo if you will...

Um, I never listened to her entire album. Solo! I'll definitely stan for Solange, it's a beautiful album.

  • Lolalao

I need Solange to be the center of attention..? I like Adele &Bey ,but Solo out did them both.

  • Lolalao

    You better say that!???

Carlos is right, Adele is a singer, Beyoncé is a performer. There is a difference.

Carlos has a right to his opinion but it doesn't mean that that is why adele won ... the award was album of the year not vocals of the year lol when taylor swift won it was not because of her AMAZING vocals ... it was because of all her trendy songs on one album ...furthermore the winner thought bey should have won ... they are both talented I enjoyed both albums ... you can't win them all ...some people went home with nothing

  • Luvn_it

Only song anyone can name from 25 is hello. I'm a Adele fan, but that album didn't have the culture impact that Lemonade had. It was being talked about every where from ESPN to CNN and Presidential debates. No album released had the impact Lemonade did. Ppl made a big deal about 25 b/c it had been awhile since Adele released an album.

  • shaybytheway

That is a load of bull crap. Besides 'Hello' I cannot name a single song nor the title of Adele's album.

  • ebonics

Santana makes timeless, GOOD music tho.. Beyonce is just a gimmick singer that no one will care about 10 years from now. I still play Oye como va, Evil ways, and the whole Supernatural album at parties. No one is gonna be listening to single ladies and all her crap music 10-20 years from now, lets be real here. She makes hits for a small time frame. Santana is a legend, and has more talent in his pinky finger than BeYawnce will ever muster up in her entire career.

  • Luvn_it

So I guess 6in,Foward,Freedom,Daddy lesson, all night where all about "becky with the good hair"

  • Jessica

While Adele is a very talented singer, Beyoncé can sing also.

  • Topaz

Definitely agree that "marching and standing should start at home" with Bey & Solange because both of them refuse to go to any black award shows anymore. If they do go, I would love to see them stay the entire show. Bey knows that she'll win every award at a black award show but for some reason I feel as though she thinks she's bigger/better than everybody in that room. I want to see more of the black mainstream artists at black award shows. Bey won a record number of NAACP Image Awards this year but she didn't go but she was in town but preferred to perform at the Grammys.

  • ?Sugar&Spice?

    Him right.

The fast talking and yodeling is not singing...but heck, they pay her for it. Nice.

  • Luvn_it

Yet she's been around for 20yrs?

  • digital_femme

It's called not sweating the stupid shit. ?

  • KDub

Someone is coming in about two minutes to run down all of her BET Awards appearances. Just FYI. Lol.?

Cosign if what you said about NAACP Awards is true.

  • 2brefrank

In Adele's defense for all those saying she messed up...

Just listened to the Adele performance from the Grammy's. I'm a singer...i think i would have messed up too ---i don't like that music it sounded really weird.

If i remember correctly, Beyonce messed up on Precious Lord when she took Ledisi's place. she recovered a little...but that song started off real rough. NO singer is exempt from that happening.

    Just saying.

Ok signing off i gotta do some work today.

AMEN!!! People are so lost these days its scary and sad! If only people knew REAL history and where they came from, they wouldnt be saying such nonsense and they surely wouldnt blaspheme Yahshua like they are quick to do. All these fools idolizing false gods and like you said little "g" gods lol! (Love that) I pray for all the people that are misguided to open their eyes soon cause time is running out!

Lol there is not one lyric in formation that had a cultural impact. The only impact it had was visually - the black panther outfit and the militant performance is what had the media heads talking - they were talking about BLM (which was gaining momentum looooong before Lemonade - Bey was just doing her usual "inspirational" jacking) in CONJUCTION with Beyonce - because BLM movement was far more prevalent in the media. Folks were trying to include her in the conversation because BLM didn't have a "face" for them to blame - Beyonce was just a convenient scapegoat - which she ALLOWED because she HOPED it would bring more sales (which it didn't). I asked another poster a question, which I'll present to you, name 3 culturally or socially relevant SONGS from Lemonade.

And? Lol the album sold more than Lemonade and more people loved it. Lemonade failed to gain any following, failed sales wise, and had no impact culturally or socially. And a year from now (just like all her previous efforts) no one will remember anything other than Becky with the good hair.

... and still hasnt made any quality music .. that says alot about her music choices. She makes pop music. I prefer Soul/ R&B/ Hip hop/Roots reggae etc. I cant rock wit POP music. Ive never been a fan of Britney spears or Katy Perry, Rhi .. etc. I consider Bey to be in those ladies category when it comes to her style of music. Shes just not timeless to me. My opinion.. sorry if it offends the stans but.. im not sorry lol.

  • Luvn_it

Lemonade though was the most critically acclaimed album released in 2016. Yes I know 25 came out 2015, but unlike Lemonade 25 didn't make it to the top of d@mn near every year end chart. Metacritic score 25-76
Metacritic score Lemonade-92. So I guess critics didn't find Adele's songs to be anything to sing home about.

  • 2brefrank

    YESSSSS!!! Preach that!!!!
Yeshua had haters then and sho' nuff has them now. He said it would happen. He knows.
How do you hate on someone who DIED for you?
Like... i really don't get people ebonics! I"m praying for them though.
People stay blaspheming him on this blog calling him White Jesus. I've heard people say He is black. None of us ever met him face to face....but i don't care if he's purple. He died for me and He Loves me! He's God in the flesh who came down for little ole me! Rose three days later - they couldn't find Him in there He was outta here back where he belonged...and is seated right now at the right hand of the Father still interceding for me!!! Forget Rick Ross--HE'S BOSS!!!! That is someone i will worship!

Hahhaha! Amen to that!!! You know, these people dont realize it now but when he comes back.. EVERY KNEE SHALL BOW including these goddess and ba'al worshipers. I dont understand how they hate on the messiah either, but its written in the bible that they will. To me its like how can you deny the holy bible when everywhere you go people get persecuted for believing in and worshiping Yah (God)? He even said you will be hated for loving him and for his names sake. So to me, I see it as if me preaching the gospel makes you angry than im doing something right!!! ;) Bless you (bro/sis) .. keep on spreading the good word to these lost souls. SHALOM!!! <3

  • ebonics

Hahah fa real, those the same people that bring race into everything. Truth hurts, and some peeps dont know how to handle it...

  • Kanyade

Resorting to name-calling, eh? How dreadful. Can't even have a discussion like adults.

Don't tell ME to listen to the song "Freedom", tell the voting members of the Academy who listened to the album in totale and voted accordingly. Said votes resulted in a win for Adele over the other four nominees.

    Bless.

  • Topaz

Taylor's writing is better than Bey's because Taylor can get parents to buy multiple copies of her music because they do not have to worry about their kids being exposed to cussing and sexual innuendos. Marketing 101 teaches that an entrepreneur should always increase their profits. Bey has been decreasing her album profits by restricting her fan base. Bey is catering her lyrics to a mature audience; however, older mature audiences are fickle to cater to due to their financial obligations, religious beliefs and listening tastes. Most adults aren't checking for a new sound. They are still listening to R&B from the 60s to early 2000s and they aren't keen to downloading music. Teens and young adults' music tastes are always changing, they have limited funds to spend and their parents are hesitant to buy music and visuals for them that are filled with elements that contradict what they are trying to teach. Yes, Bey should be able to express herself as a grown woman but she has to realize that doing so will come with some consequences. Bey's tour profits are better than her album sales because she's a great performer (people will pay to see a good show) but her lyrics need a lot of work.

  • Wayup!

So true cannot understand why she don't get at least nominated....

  • ebonics

YES!! Us (mexicans) are the lost tribe of Issachar.

  • Solstice

Beyoncés rendition of Precious Lord was one of my least favorite performances by her.

  • Wayup!

Wow u madddd disrespectful..Carlos is a FUQN LEGEND NINJA.?

  • Kanyade

My recollection of the era began with the video for "Formation" and the subesequent album drop and its amazing debut as a "visual album" (touted repeatedly by her p.r. and press alike). I along with millions watched the visual album play in its entirety and was entranced. Think pieces were written on every aspect of the visualness of it. Discussion was had on snippets of lyrics, phrases used and ultimately songs in their totality.

I felt like the ultimate impact of Lemonade was visual because of these things. I see nothing wrong with that, because it worked out well for her as a marketing tool. She encompassed all of what an album release can be in this day and age, and did so quite successfully.

But when you've got an old school ear listening to something that fares better "seen", the result is an opinion along the lines of what Senor Santana was trying to say.

    Bless.

  • 2brefrank

RIGHT! Nothing timeless. I mean i used to like that dangerously in love song that's about it but when i heard it a few years back it gave me a splitting headache. Too much whining and screaming. Po' thing.

  • 2brefrank

Yep Chloe X Halle were the ones singing vocals on the song she did at the Grammy's. They are just all around super talented. They are a little earthy for me but they have range out of this world.

  • 2brefrank

Yeah and i could tell she knew she blew it. It was written all over her face.

  • Kayke

Exactly as a humble person would..... as described by the OP.

  • 2brefrank

Don't get me shouting up in here!!! You are so right. Blessing, increase and Peace unto you as well. I am your sister and i'll see u in heaven bew!! lolll

  • 2brefrank

Yes, I don't know Adeles music at all. But i can say Jill, Celine, Whitney. Just....awesome! Tamia also has a range out of this world, one of my favs.

  • LeeSeeCee

Totally not a Taylor fan, BUT, she is a singer/songwriter. The folks that she went up against in 2016 were mostly of the same caliber, she just had the album sales.

  • Topaz

She has BET award appearances throughout the years but she had missed some, sent in a tapped performance, and left early. I haven't seen her at any of the latest Soul Train award shows, she doesn't even sing tributes to black veteran singers anymore. The last tribute she did was to Stevie Wonder, which was very rare. Bey could have sung on the musical tribute for the Black History Smithsonian Museum. I feel as though Bey wants to be everything to the black community but she does so little. I would love to see her do more Kennedy Center Honors for blacks being honored, be apart of BETs celebration of gospel or BET Honors. Bey don't even go to People's Choice Awards or American Music Awards shows to represent black singers. She doesn't even sing on the late night shows like Jimmy Fallon anymore. The BeyHive can sting all they want but Bey doesn't treat them well. She wants all their money and worship but gives them a predictable formula of surprise album, tour, rare appearances and barely any interviews. You'll probably see even less of her during her next album release but she'll expect the same devotion and dare to destroy any other black female singer to get an ounce of her shine.

  • Smith Jane

The visual was beautiful, but even that aspect fizzled out rather quickly. That being said, musically, Lemonade was not snubbed for album of the year. It was weak - lyrically, vocally, and production wise. It was a step up from her previous work.

  • AlwaysababymamaneverAbride

    Lmao

  • Mrs.Meenie

I am sorry but I don't know what the big fuss is about, Adele can sing better than Beyonce b/c Adele is a SINGER and Beyonce is an ENTERTAINER there is a difference. Beyonce sings and dances and Adele has only 1 thing to concentrate on and that is singing which she has mastered like Beyonce has mastered the art of performing. Adele doesn't have to overload us with albums and songs to prove she can sing she can do it live and just stand there and it is better than Beyonce's entire circus that she puts on. So I agree with Mr. Santana on that but what I didn't agree with was that condescending speech that Adele made to Beyonce when she accepted the award. It's already bad enough to the #Beyhive that Adele won the award but to make a speech like that and rub it in was just too much.

  • ChocolateChick84

This is why she is the GOAT!

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

    Yes?

  • Empress

I'm not a fan of either, though I am loving Bey's nod to Orishas and Black women in her overall art of late. Adele is riding on White mediocrity in my opinion and I don't get range from her at all. Her voice has a pleasing tone. There no big difference in vocal "gift" of Adele's voice VS Bey's. They are both good BUT Bey has stage presence and dance ability that Adele does not have. A fat Black woman with an average voice standing there singing even amazingly written/produced songs would never get the hype she gets. While I am not a fan of Bey's albums(until Lemonade) I do recognize her as an overall entertainer who is by leaps and bounds better than Adele. Bey is this generations Tina Turner. Santana was talking out of his azz.

  • Queen of EVERYTHING

Carlos did not mince words. With all respect. ?

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

Say what so kids only buy Taylor albums ... Chile... To be clear Taylor shyt is in rotation as well in the whip... The album not a few songs.... But I guess ....I disagree

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

That shyt you wrote is a bit confusing point is... There is a reason Taylor is where she is at... A huge fan base... And I do mean huge

  • ALLMINE

Naw..solanges shet is too contrived.. amel larrieux copy cat..lol. tinashes Aquarius album is amazing better than lemonade imo. .also Alina Baraz URBAN FLORA is a classic..

  • Monique B

CAROL SANTIAGO ABOUT TO GET HIS GREEN CARD REVOKED, SOMEBODY CALL I.C.E.

  • KIm

Carlos Santana will be nailed to the cross now for his opinion. People act like Beyonce is Aphrodite or something

  • Monique B

And Carol is a dam ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT WHO WILL BE DEPORTED, I.C.E. WILL BE KNOCKING ON HIS DOOR!!

  • Kayke

I hear. But I can't even get racial with it because they don't compare before the "white privilege". Beyoncé has never made me cry through song. An Adele song makes me think of people I didn't even know I remembered. There is something in that voice not found in Beys!
Bey has seemed to regress lyrically which is saddening because she shows no growth..... we've literally seen her grow into a 30 something wife and mother but most of her music sounds like "she still be in the club". Bey tries to sell.... Adele makes music that people end up buying. And Noooo! Tina can SINGGGG!
Doesn't matter how well you dance and perform if the actual music is crap that doesn't display your voice beyond a few Sunday school choir runs. Santana was spot on.

  • Luvn_it

Things where a lot different back than the proof is all around you. Adele is d@mn near singing the same music like as Jasmine Sullivan,Jill Scott,Ledisi who could all out sing her yet they don't sale like her nor get the recognition. I love Adele but facts are facts soul/R&B music is dead unless it has a white face on it. Even Whitney's last couple of albums released when things begin to change were flops.

  • lady_elle

On Tuesday night, Carlos Santana clarified his recent comments about Beyoncé’s Album of the Year loss at this year’s Grammy Awards.

“My intent was to congratulate Adele on her amazing night at the Grammies [sic],” Santana wrote on Facebook, adding, “My comment about Beyoncé was regretfully taken out of context.”

The Mexican-American musician also stated that he has “the utmost respect for” Beyoncé and that “she deserves all the accolades that come her way.”

  • KDub

This ish is the best comment of this post.

  • Omandesert

I was a shorty in the 70's but the music my parents jammed to was ??? Lets create a quick list that can include Aretha, Patti, Donna, Glady's, shit I will even throw in Millie Jackson and the list goes on and on. These ladies had vocal talent. The new generation can't sing for crap and if they don't look like Bey and jump around like Ciara, or show ass like Rhianna they don't have a chance. I hope the industry returns to real talent and not shallow superficial entertainmeners.

  • NegraGata

Did his congratulations to Adele really have to feature Beyonce's name. This is the problem, if you are talking about Adele, don't mention anyone else, and you wouldn't be suffering through an apology.

Never apologize if you are speaking your truth...so obviously you were lying when you made the comments about Beyonce.

  • Ling

....and let the church say Amen!

  • Ra

    Puh-leese.

Many Black folks always complain negatively about even the idea of Bey performing tributes for Black Legends. It's always about giving other talented Black artists a chance. Why not? Therefore, I'm glad she doesn't do them as much. Nonetheless, she was so awesome during the Stevie Wonder Tribute. Wow!

Same with the Black Award Shows. It's like they want Bey to show up, but they don't really want her present. It's always the same complaints about her snatching the spotlight from their favorite artists. Why she go so hard & shine so bright? Such and such is better anyways. Therefore, I prefer Bey snatching the ratings & spotlights from other award shows like the Grammys, VMAs, and so on.

  • freelancepimp .

I am sorry but since when did that matter. I am not one to defend Beyonce but since when did whoever can sing better automatically gets the Grammy. It is about the best over all album and what people found entertaining.

  • Ling

    ????? well damn!!

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

Whitney's last albums flopped because she stopped working with Clive and her voice was failing.

  • SWbeauty76

damnit.... NO ONE SINGS WITHOUT RECORDING DEVICES CHANGING THE WAY THAT THEY SOUND....ADELE and BEYONCE both have great voices...but let's just be honest...THIS HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH WHO HAD THE BEST ALBUM AND EVERYTHING TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT PEOPLE WERE MAD AT B FOR ACTUALLY MAKING AN ALBUM THAT HAD DEEP MEANING TO IT..SO THEREFORE NOWAY WERE THEY GOING TO GIVE HER ALBUM OF THE YEAR

  • SWbeauty76

wish I could have up voted this a thousand times...you hit the nail directly on the head

  • SWbeauty76

ikr...Adele just is okay to me...I have heard better....Fantasia, Monica, hell even Anita Baker sings better than her

  • Rhondalousey

Im mad that bey and riri were snubbed but i can't feel too bad because the next time she wins at the bet or naacp awards, im gonna need her to show up. They can sit for hours and the grammy's but cant support their own?

  • lilli lilian

"When asked why Adele won Album of the Year over Beyonce’s Lemonade, Santana said......"

  • interestingconcept1

Whelp! speak the truth shame the devil. I just think they are tired of her gimmicky arse. And her lyrics/songs are to childish.

  • Judi Lauren

I think Solange did win one.

Her music depresses the hell outta me.. Her songs make me suicidal ????

  • Wayup!

YES she did her first Grammy.. Wondering why Sandra didnt do a write up on it?..?

  • lovelygamour

Adele tries to sound like a 60's black lady. Her voice cracks all the time. She strains, shes a parrot. 25 was not fresh it was just like her last album. I dont think beyonce shouldve won. I dont care, i havent watched the grammys since macklemore won.

  • ?Queen_ CleoJones ?

Adele is a Ella Fitzgerald/Billie Holiday wannabe.
Beyonce can sing circles around adele, if need be. I'm no big Beyonce fan, but she is a very versatile artist, if adele tried to be versatile it would definitely hurt her career!
Fuqq the Grammys. It's whitewashed just as the Oscars are, & the sooner black artists & actors acknowledge that the better!
There are other awards shows that appreciate their body of work. They ( singers/actors) need to take advantage of those shows!

  • ?Queen_ CleoJones ?

Exactly! What have everyone who is a fan thinking she's the ish, is because she tried her best to sound like the Queens Billie & Ella, I don't see the craze about a white trying to sound black, being dubbed " blue eyed soul" they do this not for the love of music, but for the compensation & accolades that comes with it.

  • ?Queen_ CleoJones ?

That "for fat ugly ppl, who cry all day" had me ??????

  • ?Queen_ CleoJones ?

You think she studied Phyllis? I've been saying she's a piss poor Billie/Ella wannabe. Atleast that's who she tries to sound like.

  • ?Queen_ CleoJones ?

    Fanny
    Jamine Sullivan
    Newcomer- La Porsha Renee
    Avery Sunshine
    Jill Scott
    Trump''s Coonette Cassette Michele
    Erykah Badu
    Paris Bennett (American Idol contestant)
    JHUD

All sound a million times better than Adele, Jessie J, Jojo, Pink, Joss Stone Amy Winehouse etc... the list goes on!

  • ?Queen_ CleoJones ?

    Tell it!

  • AListDiva29

Why would I? It's not a popular vote by the public or personal opinion, it was a vote by an academy, and she didn't win because someone else was better, the end!

  • Blue

Oh. He cans till sit down though. Are you in the industry?

  • JENNYJONES1

CHILE YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH. DO U REMEMBER THE 'SNL' SKIT WHERE IT HAD WHITE PEOPLE FREAKING OUT B/C THEY REALIZED BEY WAS BLACK. LOL!!! SHE CAME TOO REAL FOR THEM AND THIS WAS THEIR 'WHITE LASHING' TO HER. SMH!!! AND CARLOS A** CAN ONLY PLAY THE GUITAR SO HE NEEDS TO SHUT UP.........JENNY JONES!!!

  • JENNYJONES1

ALSO B/C BEY ISN'T FAT AND CAN DANCE THAT MEANS SHE CAN'T SING ALL OF A SUDDEN. WOW!!!........JENNY JONES!!!

  • Deb Roberson

She doesn't need to make more appearances (IMO) she needs to go away for a bit, she really needs to regroup, maybe leave trap music alone...it's going to be dated one day...anyway, I don't hear Beyonce on the radio...her music is just not...good.

  • Deb Roberson

Yeah, but she's "snatching" ratings for the Grammys...they played her...tbh she played herself.

  • Deb Roberson

Not many but her fans really just know the songs...Lemonade didn't resonate with everyone...look at album sales...that's the "truth".

  • KJ Laneese

I love B too, but I don't think she would sing circles around Adele. Adel has a very powerful and robust voice. B can sing and her messages are the bomb, but I don't believe she can ever out sing Adele

  • Deb Roberson

    Apparently...no...jk.

  • Deb Roberson

Sorry dear she could NEVER be Michael Jackson...she can just continue to dress up like him. That's the closest she will get.

  • Deb Roberson

Beyonce is the industry's creation as well...she's not a great singer nor dancer...Bey had no chance of winning. She played herself.

  • Deb Roberson

Michael Jackson has a BEAUTIFUL singing voice...so does Janet. Don't try and discredit Michael as a vocalist...because of his EXCELLENT showmanship and because he is the greatest entertainer EVER. JUST.DON'T. King Michael was a great vocalist AND songwriter...he is an example of the FULL package...that's why Beyowulf tries so hard...she wants to be him...Michael could convey such emotion with his voice...sometimes words were unimportant...his voice has such emotion, warmth, love, and...that's why he has fans ALL over the world...He knew how to move his audience...while singing and dancing his ass off...So don't come for Queens Janet and Aretha...and THEN King Michael...I think we get it...you don't think Adele is all of that...Am I right??? #YouTriedIt #MJForever

  • NegraGata

Well in that case he should have declined the question. He's not an Grammy expert, why did he offer such an opinion.

  • Deb Roberson

Actually Janet's voice is more appealing to me :) But Adele still deserved all the awards she won that night. Adele>>>>>>>>Beyonce

  • bella28498 .

please shut up...I wasnt discrediting anyone, what I was trying to convey was those two artist are the same as beyonce great entertainers and can sing very well. ppl tend to think if you dont have a husky heavy voice like aretha then its not singing and thats not true.

  • Deb Roberson

    HMBOMT is a classic actually.

  • Deb Roberson

Telling me to shut up is NOT necessary. You gave your opinion now I'm giving mine. You can chose not to comment. I ALWAYS stan for Michael...and don't mean any harm.

  • ?Patty Kakes?

I never said it wasn't, my question is do we want a whole album of that from him.
Dont get me wrong, I like the song. I was just using it to make a point

  • ?Patty Kakes?

"Robust"??? not down playing you message. I just find the word robust to be funny. Kind'a like moist.

  • Deb Roberson

The media still tears down Mike...and...YES...Saint Michael does exist.

  • Deb Roberson

There's nothing radical about Beyonce...please...they just thought Adele's album was better. I heard Adele on both "white" and "black" radio stations...I barely hear Beyonce...or Lemonade at all. Adele has a bigger demographic.

  • Deb Roberson

Nah, she's on her way out...I bet she spends more money than she makes...her snubs at the Grammys is just the beginning. Creative control is what she needs (maybe) but I don't think she has it.

  • Deb Roberson

    EXACTLY.

  • Deb Roberson

    Yonce can't sell albums.

  • Deb Roberson

For all the hype she receives...and her so-called "devoted" fanbase...she can't really sell records. Adele sold more albums in one week than Lemonade has sold since it's been out. Something's not adding up with Bey.

  • bemetoo

Really you find baby talk and sexualized breathing and humming of words more appealing??? Yeah you a freak a supafreak supafreak you supafreaky...lol

    nite nite

  • KJ Laneese

You just made me google robust to make sure I was using the term correctly...lol. I was...uncompromising, forceful, strong and healthy

  • ?Patty Kakes?

Yeah......But I just Associated it with the way she looks.......She a big healthy gal. I love the fact that she's not trying to loose weight.

  • Whitley Jones

singing about hot sauce and red lobster isn't deep hun. and her smashing car windows and what not is not reinforcing the angry black woman stereotype and lets not go there about what she said about what she would do with pages of the bible.

  • TexasMocha

Well, not quite I bought it he paid for it. We then sold it so we could upgrade to a $600,000 house. You know the kinda shit you do when married.??

  • Erin Blockabitch

$600k here isn't a house. It's a condo. And that can be done single or married. ?? Have a blessed day.

  • TexasMocha

Feeling sorry 4 u miserable one???

  • Erin Blockabitch

You addressed my comment but I'M miserable? Please don't waste your time or my time deflecting your insecurities onto me. If you were happy, you'd be enjoying your little house and your husband. Instead, you've camped out in my replies like you're homeless.

    Goodbye:

  • TexasMocha

If that makes you feel better ?

  • kennedy campbell

she is a singer ...we know she has some pipes of course there are stronger pipes out there...but modeling music belongs to thin voices like janet, Ciara, Britney, etc. adele seems to sing in the same tone while beyonce has been deep and high. not saying adele can't but come on color it up like my girl jazmine sulilivan

  • TexasMocha

Open your mind to something other than ignorance & you'll find happiness too my love.

Britney has more classics than Bey. FACTS.

  • Deb Roberson

Britney has more classics than Bey. FACTS.

  • Deb Roberson

No one wants Bey with just a mic...they want her to twerk in a leotard. And the only training Bey seems to have is dancing in heels.

  • Deb Roberson

Bey WISHED she was the Tina of this generation...Bey is more along the lines of JLo if you want to know the truth...Bey's just hyped up more. However, JLo is definitely the better dancer and more entertaining, IMO

  • Benjamin

LOL OK girl, enjoy your opinion.

    Bye ?

  • Luvn_it

Try again there is more than enough video proof to show how much training this woman has had. Ppl who are no longer in her life who were there in the very beginning(before fame) who have talked about "project Beyonce" the training and work she put in. You may not like her, but don't discredit her, and you have no right to speak for everyone by saying no one wants to see her just with a mic. Lets stick to "I" don't want to see her with just a mic you don't speak for a whole population.

  • Deb Roberson

I don't know her not to like her. But yes, there's no quality in her music. YesI'm sure she works hard...too hard it seems sometimes imo. I do want her to do well. But the struggle is real...I just hope she's REALLY being paid well. So she can someday retire from her hardwork. But if she can release a GOOD ballad then maybe Bey with a mic...could be bearable. But I stand by what I said, "fierce" Bey with gyrating leotard is what put her on. Sorry not sorry. Performing in that leotard is her bread and butter.

  • Deb Roberson

    I will and I am ?

  • Deb Roberson

    Ok...sure Jan ?

  • eletric .lady

Beyonce having a unique voice? C'mon that is a complete exaggeration. lol She is a okay singer and her song is descent for pop music but it IS limited and she lacks soul. There are plenty of singers that sing circles around her.
