American Healthcare Act

The new American Healthcare Act will replace former President Obama's disastrous Affordable Care Act, dubbed Obamacare.

House Speaker Paul Ryan announced the specifics of the new bill in a press conference today.

The new legislation will offer low cost plans and more Insurance choices for Americans across state lines.

The new plan offers a tax credit to all Americans (and legal residents) who don't get insurance from an employer. They can use the tax credit to buy insurance or keep the cash.

For example, high income earners who are self-employed will receive a tax credit of up to $33,000.

The new GOP plan offers:

  • Returns control of health care back to the states
  • Restores the free market
  • Decrease premiums
  • Expand and enhance health care options
  • Dependents stay on their parents’ plan until age 26
  • Eliminate taxes on prescription drugs
  • Ryan said the new GOP health care reform bill gives patients more control and protects people with preexisting conditions.

Ryan paused to slam Obamacare for driving up costs and taxes, making it nearly impossible for hospitals to buy new medical equipment.

Ryan said it will take 3 weeks for the new American Healthcare Act to move through the House on its way to the Senate before it becomes law.

Supporting everything a person does no matter how stupid it is should be a crime. There's a whole lot of people wearing bad wigs because of people like you, stop it Sandra, honest critique is helpful. The GOP plan is horrible, even many Republicans in Congress are not backing it. Lets get a system in America like the one in the UK. Even Costa Rica has better health care than America.

    • hottlanta

They telling people to go to the emergency room if they get sick. I don't want crooked Deal handling state insurance and he didn't say the Medicaid expansion will end in 2020 and Deal didn't do the Medicaid expansion for Georgia because of Obamacare. I want my insurance in the government hands not in the crooked state of Georgia. Folks have been suckered Everyone knows that even with you have a job your insurance rates go up every year and that is why HR every year before Obamacare had to shop around for the best insurance rates.

    • DroneRivers

There they go being hypocrites again. They whined about the Democrats rushing the ACA through when it actually took about 8 months. Now they wanna push this through in 3 weeks? And all it amounts to is a money grab. The rich get richer and to hell with everyone else. Even Republicans don't like it.

    • Being bad is way more fun

The only people getting a real tax credit from this plan are the rich and the poor will be right back using the ER to get help which will drive cost back up. The ACA is not perfect but it has helped millions of people but the GOP plan will put people in worse shape than they were before the ACA and who wants that other than the rich who dont give a dam about the poor. Let them die if they cant afford healthcare and we already know thats not the way to be.

    • PettyEyezPrime

Ain't no fun, if the homies can't get none (insurance) ?

    • DroneRivers

They had all those years to get rid of the so-called Obamacare as THEY named it and this is the best they could do? Piggyback off the core of the ACA and add in ways to grab money.

    • E-White B.Sweet KoolAid

They can use the tax credit to buy insurance or keep the cash.

Yeah Auntie and Dump claims that anybody can go to the emergency room and they will be taken care of regardless of health insurance or not....yeah that ain't new, they can't turn away sick people, they can make your azz wait, and you might die in the waiting room, but they can't turn you away. And then you can wait on that bill you won't be able to pay that will come in the mail 2 weeks later.

    • Keesh5000

Out of all of this I feel sorry for the Doctors, Nurses, caretakers in the emergency rooms. These are the people who will not see someone die because of this bullcrap Paul Ryan has made it his life work to achieve

    • E-White B.Sweet KoolAid

The emergency room was never intended to be what it became. If people get regular primary care they are less likely to use the emergency room for those reasons. People with actual emergencies can get help in a reasonable amount of time.

Definitely in my state, you will get garnished for a hospital bill.

Yes, I understand that. People with chest pains and people that are really sick, that's what the emergency room was intended for, I'm talking about people who have to go to the damn emergency room cause they got a toothache, or broken leg, something they can go to a primed or dentist for.

Basically if you live in a state that doesn't have a hospital that has its own system in place to take care of everyone, you are out of luck. Chicago has always had Cook County Hospital/Strodger Hospital that will take on your medical and service you like you have full coverage if you don't have the means. It's been like that over 80 years. the GOP package will not help the lower income range nor the middle class. So this headline is so misleading. Illinois will have a governor's race in 2018 and I can't wait. This guy is worse then Trump. I didn't vote for him.

The bill does strike down the ACA's individual mandate -- which will likely spur a dip in enrollment -- but one of the biggest differences between the ACA and AHCA is the 30 percent surcharge on policyholders who fail to keep up continuous coverage. Also, where the ACA allowed insurance companies to deduct a max $500,000 of their executives' pay as a business expense, the AHCA would repeal that capped amount starting in 2018.

Did you read the post? The new tax credit is for anyone who doesn't get insurance at work. That means employees whose employer doesn't offer insurance. That means part time workers, etc.

    • Elevated Soul

Good Job!....Obamacare needed to be replaced. Obamacare was a disaster. This will put health care back in state hands.

    • hottlanta

It wasn't a good plan when they put it on his desk. From the looks of what we see now, I can see why he vetoed it. He said it had to be GOOD just because they placed it on his desk doesn't mean it was a good plan.

    • Phillybruh

No it doesn't you will still have to pay those amounts out of pocket each month and with your heart condition a cap will put back on how much service the insurance will cover. Don't worry were going to take care of yall, as I look forward to my bonus next year. Disney Cruise!

      I have the app.
Again, after 7 years this Paul's Master Plan?!?!? A plan that his party isn't on board with? You'd think in that 7 years he'd have worked with his fellow Republicans and reached across the isle for a solution that ALL could live with. There was more than enough time to do so.
Giving tax breaks to the upper class? So a citizen pulling in 150K or more gets a tax credit on insurance that is probably provided by his employer with a contribution. Not to mention big phamara and big insurance uppity ups get that same break. Isn't that double dipping?
And there is a question on why President Obama vetoed ...

I used the google app, on my phone and learned that republicans voted down the premium cap in the ACA.

Understand that many of these people were getting free or something close to free from Obamacare. They totally can't relate to those of us that had to pay high costs for healthcare either because we own our own business or we are making 6 figures or more.

We were paying for the freeloaders and those are the ones whining now, for something they won't be paying for anyway.

    • hottlanta

Really, someone should have passed Dump some answers because he had to bring in props of 4 women concerning Bill Clinton to take the attention off him even though he cheated on his 1st wife with his 2nd wife. It is mighty Presidential for someone to discuss their penis size with small hands at a professional national debate. Trumpism is now getting exposed as a monumental fraud

By Greg Sargent March 8 at 10:28 AM

      THE MORNING PLUM:

The set of policy proposals and ideas loosely known as Trumpism goes something like this: President Trump is not an ideological fellow
traveler of congressional Republicans on the economy, the safety net and immigration. Unlike Paul Ryan Republicans, he sees a robust government role in maintaining protections for the poor, sick and old; and he is much more willing than other Republicans to slam the brakes on immigration to protect blue collar whites from global forces that are
making them feel culturally, economically and demographically
      destabilized.

But little by little, as Trump seeks to make good on his promises, Trumpism — as sold by the man himself — is being revealed as fraudulent to its core.

NBC News reports that health-care experts across the political spectrum agree that the new House GOP health-care plan, which Trump has now endorsed, falls short of his promises:

The bill, experts said, falls far short of the goals President Donald Trump laid out: Affordable coverage for everyone; lower deductibles and health care costs; better care; and zero cuts to Medicaid. Instead, the bill is almost certain to reduce overall coverage, result in deductibles increasing, and will phase out Obamacare’s Medicaid expansion.

I've had employer provided Healthcare since 2007. Currently, I pay $815 per month for vision/dental/medical insurance for 2 adults and 2 children. I'm addition, I have a family deductible of $3550 per year. The deductible is only required when there are ER visits, specialist visits, and surgery. I make about $80,000 per year before tax.

Most people I know have the option to get Healthcare at work or are eligible for medicaid. I say all of this because I don't believe that a good amount of people fall into the new or old Healthcare plans. Only self employed or contract workers, yet the ones complaining the loudest have/have access too health insurance. I think this is playing out bigger than it really is.

    • dontgetblocked

He is keeping his campaign promises. This new healthcare plan is fantastic.

    • Mmm…Okay

I understand they don't refuse treatment but many without health insurance do not and are not able to see physicians before it's too late. If they have health insurance they are more likely to seek primary care instead of emergency care.

    • Sean

From someone who works at a large insurance company, this bill does not seek to ensure people are insured. They credits do not guarantee someone will buy health insurance. It simply gives the ability to be insured. As a country, we get so upset with those that take advantage of entitlement programs. This creates another one. The Affordable Care Act focused on actually making sure people had health insurance. Insurance companies will begin interpreting the law in ways that benefit them just as they did with the ACA and we will be in a much worse position than we are today. Trump and the GOP do not care about people who aren't worth millions of dollars. Unfortunately, some people are sheep and will follow whatever requires them to do the least amount of work.

    • Jamal Warner

Hospitals are only required to stabilize you and that is it. They are not required to do anything outside of that. Social services does not provide services to 23 million people who will go without insurance if ACA is repealed.

    • Rahab

No, black folks are not mad. People are concern that the Republican'ts are just wanting to get rid of ACA (obamacare) because it was key legislation of the first black president. They do not have a better replacement, one that is even equal it. They presented no financials today, but only solutions like Trump did the entire campaign. They have not presented no viable means of resolving the healthcare issue.

    • hottlanta

Lies you. Our wealthy President don't pay taxes and brags about it and if Lawandreason from McDonald's don't pay her taxes she will catch all kinds of hell.

    • BrittBrat2005

And which they fail to realize it been on the table for years from Clinton to Bush but they got voted against in they term. But when a Black President comes along they where like let it go through for more hate. smh even Bush admitted he look over before Obama sign it in his term 2002..

    • OkWhatevah

That's a lie. And these social services many times have ridiculous eligibility requirements and/or ridiculously long waiting lists.

    • dontgetblocked

They stabilize you and counsel on social services and help you set up appointments. There are income based services available...even for surgery. I've used it in the past.

    • dontgetblocked

In the past, I've been given emergency treatment that led to surgery. The hospital hooked me up with doctors and everything was income based. This included MRIs, surgery, recovery and meds. I was treated better with social services than when I had good insurance.

    • Phillybruh

In order for you to qualify for the credit you have to be paying monthly for health insurance.

    • Phillybruh

But they won't treat you until Medicaid is in place. Happened to my uncle, with his cancer.

    • AllAroundTheWorldSameSong

Decrease premiums--- I can't wait to see how this is truth, as premiums have ALWAYS increased, even before the ACA was passed, so uuummmmm

Expand and enhance health care options ---- we are given a selection on plans and Tiers for medical, vision and dental---soooo ummmmmmmm

Dependents stay on their parents’ plan until age 26 --- this is ALREADY in place, so ummmm....

Yeah......they need to just tell the truth and shame the devil!! ACA/ObamaCare/RomneyCare/Whatever name you want to give it.........needed some tweaks (which was already admitted to), but was a good start.

Oh and Hey, Everyone have a great Friday!

    • jonny

you know the parties switched sides. In the beginning even Fredrick Douglas was a republican. Somewhere between 1860 & 1936. so stop being a clown. You know trump ain't go no love for you.

    • Elevated Soul

He is indeed keeping his word and the plan is nice!

    • nick c

Taxing poor people who didn't purchase policies was a attack on the poor, gtfoh.

    • Op2

Huh? lol The poor qualified for medicaid. -no purchase necessary there.

    • Op2

Ignorance = bliss. -the tax-credit only applies to those who are paying monthly premiums for health insurance. Then, it becomes a tax writeoff (deductions) which might lead to a refund or reduced payout in taxes.

    • Op2

The cost to finance the illusion of "free healthcare" means that others have to dig DEEPer into their income 'to pay' HIGHer taxes to cover that debt. -how much longer can the US keep borrowing $$$ from other countries to finance their freebies which is debt??

Someone has to pay all of those Physicians; nurses, PA's, lab technicians, administrators and janitors in addition to all of the overhead costs (cost associated with the purchase of lab equipment; medical machines, utility bills, computers, mortgage/lease, beds, sterilizing and so much more).

The people standing before you are there to do a job and expect to get paid. Medicaid only pays for a fraction of the cost and businesses have eat the balance of that cost a tax write-off/charity.

    • Op2

Dependents stays on until 26 is already in place "means that they have decided to not touch that." -this is for a number of people who have kids in college who are still living in and out of the home while they pursue grad school degrees as well.

This reduces costs for the parents/families and student. -it is good that they've decided to not touch some parts of the ACA.

    • Araminta Glissade Chaines

Yes, love, I always read. Why do you need one AT THAT HIGH OF A RATE if you're independently wealthy?

    • Chauncey Brooks

      -bot (lies)

    • AlwayssB

Stfu, get a job you won't have to worry about welfare!!!!!!!! No more handouts, get ya ass back to work you Democratic Plantation fools!!!!!!!!!1

    • SHARON GAINEY

sandrarose this is still parts of Obamacare have a seat

    • SHARON GAINEY

      Only person mad is you.

    • Rob N. Lebron

THe only people getting tax cuts are the rich. While middle and lower class people will be footing the bill of high premium.

    • Rob N. Lebron

It doesn't save money for middle class/low income people dumbass. It's a tax credit for the rich. Even Fox News doesn't like the new policy. Ask Tucker Carlson

    • Rob N. Lebron

Paul Ryan basically told Fox News Tucker Carlson that he doesn't care. "Our goal was just to get rid of Obamacare." Those were his exact words. This is why having Trump in office allow Paul Ryan, his cabinet and other racist to do whatever they want. Trump only open turned the pipe on full blast.

    • Rob N. Lebron

They freed slaves to cripple the south's economy not for moral reasons. The 1st civil rights bill didn't apply to slaves. Do your research.

    • Rob N. Lebron

Facts. Freeing slaves were to cripple the southern economy to force them to unite with the union. It wasn't for because of moral reasoning.

    • Rob N. Lebron

I guess you think your getting tax cuts from TrumpCare LMAO. You're premiums are going up. Keep simping.

    • Chauncey Brooks

Africans in Africa sold African slaves (for economic purposes like all forms of slavery found throughout human history) and the GOP had the 1st civil rights bill passed in 1866 "The law conferred U.S. citizenship on all African-Americans, according them “full and equal benefit of all laws and proceedings for the security of person and property as is enjoyed by white citizens.” Despite Democrat objections, Republicans made sure African-Americans had the right to own property, engage in business, sign contracts and file lawsuits."

    • Chauncey Brooks

Got a tax cut during President Bush (43) years in office. Not worried can pick up plenty of overtime, unlike being a liberal activist on Doritos & Mountain Dew per diem.

    • Chauncey Brooks

-Why did the African tribes (Kings) sell off their African slaves (to Europeans, Spainards, Mexicans, Africans and all others)?. Even the so called native indians had economic slavery. You must think slavery was new because America at the time being was one of the newest countries in the world at the time. Wait for that reparations check Johnson.

    • AlwayssB

I save my own money, open your own business, stop crying. Damn, I'm good no matter who runs this sinking ship!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    • AlwayssB

Im too blessed to be stressed, I love the changes, and so does my portfolio!!!!!

    • Jamal Warner

You do not know a thing about me at all. I see you care to not argue using sound logic or even facts. You are just throwing insults. SMH!!!

    • Rob N. Lebron

You sound stupid af. You're not getting a tax cut unless you're in the seven figure bracket. If everyone were to open a business, the market would be saturated that you wouldnt make much money. Supply and Demand dumb sh*t. Simple economics. All saving money does is create more inflation. You have to spend. So in the long run you're hurting yourself. SMH

    • Rob N. Lebron

    • Rob N. Lebron

I see that you're not too bright. I just explained the real reason slavery was abolish and you're talking about whi had slaves? You're just talking just to talk.

    • Rob N. Lebron

What tax cut was that? Bush was in office more than 10 years ago and his policies are not even in use.

    • Rob N. Lebron

African American did not have the right to own property. The law was applied to the Irish, Germans, and the Chinese who were indentured servants. Not African American. They said to give men equal rights. African Americans were still not considered human and what happen after? Reconstruction and Jim Crow Era started. Then you had situations like Tulsa oklahoma where african anericans thrived without white assistance and what happened? It was destroyed by angry white world war I vets because Black Wall Street was built off of Oil and taken away by force and never received reparations for what happened during the Tulsa Massacre. A mini holocaust not talk in American schools about what happened on American soil.

    • Chauncey Brooks

-African Americans owned slaves & property (back then).

    • Chauncey Brooks

-All slavery throughout human history has been for economic reasons.

    • Chauncey Brooks

-Black wall st (Tulsa) should have included Whites and others in the local economy (besides being consumers), instead of segregating themselves, esp, after all the federal laws that where passed to include Africa's slaves legally brought from Africa.

    • Chauncey Brooks

-You can wait for that reparations check Washington

    • Chauncey Brooks

-Negro did not get a Bush Tax cut (but plenty of blacks did).

    • Chauncey Brooks

-Real reason, was nothing more then a niggardly opinion.

    • Rob N. Lebron

If you're talking about the stimulus package that's not a tax cut dumbass. Take a seat.
