UPDATE: The BBC reports 19 people are dead, dozens injured at a concert by American singer Ariana Grande at the Manchester Arena north of London.

The bomb was detonated by a suicide bomber outside the arena in “a public space” according to Greater Manchester police.

A massive boom was heard outside the arena just after the concert ended at about 10:35 p.m. London time (5:35 p.m. EST). The arena seats 21,000 people.

Ariana Grande’s record label reports the singer is okay.

Photos published by the Daily Mail show injured and bleeding concertgoers stumbling out of the arena.

Greater Manchester police believe the explosion occurred outside the lobby near the ticket booth.

Concert goers originally thought the sounds were large balloons popping.

Update 8:09 pm:

Fox News reports the bomb was an improvised explosive device (IED) that was packed with nails and other shrapnel designed to inflict significant injuries.

Update: Added dash cam video with sound of explosion outside the arena.
