Tiger Woods was apparently asleep at the wheel of his Mercedes Benz Maybach when officers from the Jupiter, Florida police department found his vehicle on the side of the road.

Woods, 41, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at 3 a.m. on Monday.

“There’s an odor coming from you,” the officer said after Woods denied drinking and driving. Woods initially told police he was on his way to Orange County. Moments later he said he didn’t know where he was or where he was going.

Woods’ car was facing south, away from his mansion on Jupiter Island, a wealthy enclave on the east coast of Florida.

Woods was unable to successfully pass field sobriety tests and his speech was slurred.

The golfer released a statement on Monday apologizing to his fans and his loved ones. He said he accidentally mixed prescription medicine and he experienced an “unexpected reaction” to the drugs.

Woods recently underwent back surgery in April for the fourth time after suffering from back pain for years. The chronic pain left the former champion golfer with a dependency on pain medicine and sleeping pills.

Woods denied gossip tabloid TMZ’s reports that he resisted arrest. The video backs up Woods’ version of the incident.

“I fully co-operated with law enforcement, and I would like to personally thank the representatives of the Jupiter Police Dept. and the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for their professionalism,” the golfer concluded.

EDIT: The Jupiter police also released photos of the damage to Woods’ $200,000 Mercedes Benz Maybach. The damage included 2 flat tires and damage to the front driver’s side bumper.

The car was towed to North County Wrecker Service off Center Street in Jupiter. The attendant there said another tow truck came to retrieve the vehicle.
