Cardi B DJ Khaled

The 2017 BET Hip-Hop Awards will be held in Miami on October 6. One-hit-wonder Cardi B and music producer DJ Khaled lead the nominations with nine each.

Rappers Kendrick Lamar, Jay-Z, and Chance The Rapper are not far behind with multiple nominations each.

Newcomer Cardi B, 24, surprised everyone with nine nominations for her single “Bodak Yellow”. Her achievement comes less than a year after she signed a record deal with no fanfare.

Cardi made a name for herself on Instagram.com before transitioning to reality TV. A cameo appearance on BET’s Being Mary Jane gave her wider exposure.

She will take on Playboi Carti, Amine, Kodak Black and Tee Grizzley in the best new hip-hop artist category.

Jay-Z and Chance The Rapper have 5 nominations each and will battle it out for lyricist of the year as well as vying with Kendrick, Cardi and Khaled for the MVP and hustler trophies.

Rappers Future and Migos earned four nods apiece, and have records nominated for album of the year alongside Khaled, Kendrick, and Jay’s collections.

The BET Hip-Hop Awards will be taped at The Fillmore Miami Beach at Jackie Gleason Theater on October 6.

BET plans to hold a star-studded telethon to raise funds for victims of Hurricane Irma in the Keys, Naples and Jacksonville, Florida — the hardest hit areas.

“Our hearts, thoughts and prayers are with those who are facing the impact of this catastrophic storm. As a network, we are committed to offering our full support during this most devastating time,” BET interim head of programming Connie Orlando said in a statement to Billboard.
