Project Runway finalist Mychael Knight has died at age 39. The popular fashion designer died on Tuesday, Oct. 17, in Atlanta surrounded by his family and friends, according to Obviousmag.com.
Knight, who was born in Nuremberg, Germany, and raised in Montgomery, Al, earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Apparel Design and Merchandising at Georgia Southern University in 2001.
He auditioned for Project Runway twice — in 2005 and again in 2006.
Though placed third in the competition in the show’s third season, his charming personality and edgy designs earned him the Fan Favorite Award.
Knight launched his label, Mychael Knight, on BET’s Rip the Runway. He went on to design custom tees for Starbucks and he regularly dressed Atlanta strippers and other socialites in his custom designs.
His last television appearance was on Project Runway: All Stars in 2013.
