Taraj P Henson

Taraji P. Henson is unloading more properties from her impressive portfolio. Earlier this year she re-listed her Hollywood Hills mansion for $1.25 million. The Empire actress recently listed her stunning 3 bedroom, 3 bath Chicago condominium for $1.525 million.

The 2,159 sq. ft. 38th floor condo features breathtaking unobstructed views of Navy Pier, Lake Michigan, on prestigious Lake Shore Drive.

The apartment’s interior walls are painted a pretty neutral color and the hardwood floors are freshly refinished throughout.

Two of the bedrooms have new carpeting while the third is finished in new hardwood floor. Crown molding is in the living, dining, kitchen and master bedroom, with custom lighting and electric shades in the living room and dining areas.

The master bedroom features a custom-built walk-in closet.

Taraji paid $1.4 million for the condo in 2015.

Nice place, but not worth the money IMO. It’s obviously the neighborhood you’re paying for

  • shun king

and the view which is very important in real estate now a days

  • Fred G sanford

When it come to real estate it’s all about location location location

  • RICHIE_RICH

It’s nice , I? rather have that then a house. That’s oprah condo building in the last pic

  • SummerBaby

That’s very nice! I wish I could afford to live like that.

  • GuestSTAR

The condo is beautiful, but I couldn’t be that high up. I would never go on the balcony (vertigo). I don’t even like staying in a hotel room that high up.
All I could think of is being trapped that high and not being able to get down to the bottom. Sometimes the 9/11 people jumping from the 112th floor, so not to burn to death come to mind. Gives me chills just thinking about it.

  • Vonn

    I love the view.

  • MRiGOThim

    Location, location, location!!!!

    Chicago is so beautiful

  • Tammie Reed

ALL those luxury properties and STILL hasn’t hired a stylist lol!

  • Tammie Reed

I was in Chicago a few days ago and I stayed downtown at The Langham hotel, they had me on the 35th floor! I was so dizzy when I looked out the window! I know exactly what you mean lol!

  • Evillene

She got fleeced! $1.4 for a 2200 sq.ft. condo in Chicago? In 2015??!!! There were much better deals — with more impressive views — to be had in Chicago.

  • Kayke

Not that impressive….but I don’t like high rises so I’m biased.

  • KcoolMuziq

Maybe Taraji (whom I worked with on the show ‘The Division’ when she was dating Hil Harper) preferred one that was closer to the Empire set or her other co-stars like Terrence or Director Lee Daniels reside there also.

Btw I don’t like her hair like this. I prefer her with a weave. This makes her look too butch.

  • https://twitter.com/Chicagowise Chicagowise

That location looks suspiciously close to me. ?

    But yet so dangerous!

  • Mec-One

Price is high because of the amount of celebrities in there

I guess she realizes that Empire is coming to an end soon so she’s preparing herself financially.

Good for her for being realistic unlike some entertainers.

Idiots with poor finance decisions. Just bought it 2 years ago and selling at a loss. Would have been cheaper and smarter to rent. She doesn’t need all of those properties unless she knows how to play the real estate game properly. She needs better advisors.

If so, doesn’t matter …… just gives her more time to get the movie bags ………

Yes, numerous luxury properties has got to be the life.

  • NicoleZee

Who pays millions for an apartment or condo??? I swear most of these celebs are on crystal meth when they make decisions! I would taken half of the $1.25 million and just purchased a nice house in full, no loan! These celebs make such dumb financial decisions and yet they get mad when they owe taxes or they go broke. I don’t get it. So many rich people, celeb and non celeb, have lost everything due to poor spending habits, especially lottery winners. And who the hell wants to live in Chicago, if there is so much gang violence, why live there??? The hell???

  • Stationarity

I am just doing back of the envelope calculations but I think Rent on a property worth 1.4 million is probably gonna be well over 100k a year. And if she paid 1.4 million in year 2015, how is it a loss if she is listing it at 1.525 million? And if she mortgaged it, she wouldn’t even be out of 1.4 million in her own cash and she could deduct the interest depending on how many houses she owns. Yes, I know tshe might not get the asking price but she might get more. What am I missing…

  • NicoleZee

I hope so, it sucks now, I’ve only seen a couple of episodes from this season and I just got tired of watching. I was only watching to see Demi Moore and her daughter. Demi Moore ruled the 90s with her movies (and boobs!), I wonder what made her decide to do Empire??? Demi is a great actress. I still love Indecent Proposal and Ghost!

  • NicoleZee

It would be better to just pay cash for a home if you can. If you have $500,000 or $1 million, why lease or get a loan??? It just doesn’t make sense to me, I don’t care what financial experts say. A lot of people are in debt because they listen to stupid financial advisors who half the time don’t know what they are talking about or they’re trying to steal from you anyway, like many accountants. If I hit Powerball or Mega Millions, I will buy a home and pay cash, no loans for anything whatsoever! Just because you have millions does not mean you have to live lavishly. Who’s going to clean all that shit if you have an overpriced mansion??? I wouldn’t want strangers in and out of my home everyday doing things for me. I’m not handicapped or disabled or dumb, I can cook and clean for myself, but that’s just me!

  • Noirluv45

I love Chicago! I had a 6-hour layover there on my way to NC, and I had a blast!

Nice condo, but waaaay too much.

  • Noirluv45

My former brother-in-law lived in Chicago and loved it. It’s not all bad from what I hear. I was there briefly and had a blast!

  • NicoleZee

I doubt that. There is crime everywhere but the violent crime rates in Chicago have skyrocketed. I’d rather stay here in Atlanta than Chicago any day of the week!

  • NicoleZee

I can’t remember if I’ve ever been to Chicago. Well, if it’s nasty like New York with plenty of rude people, then I wouldn’t want to go anyway. People are much more pleasant overseas when you think about it, I don’t know why. Vancouver, B.C. is amazing, one of the friendliest cities in the world! It’s like everyone there drinks some sort of happy juice :)! Kindness still goes a long way, but I guess it depends on the person’s upbringing and current environment. I’m southern, I was taught to be polite and kind, but I’m not going to be nice to an asshole that is being rude to me! l’m nice, just don’t poke a sleeping bear………and that bear is me! LOL!

  • Noirluv45

I heard NY was terrible and that the people were very rude. OMG, Yes! I visited Vancouver, B.C. around 1984 and I LOVED IT! People were shockingly friendly. I couldn’t believe it. I remember going on the ferry and someone came and sat next to me and struck up a conversation. Yes, they must be drinking that happy juice. Lol! You’re right about upbringing. You don’t have to cast your pearls before swine. Lol! ?

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

Taraji hair is growing back so quick.

  • Anunnaki

Most of them need permission to take that kinda money out the bank, this is why u see them getting loans they are forbid to buy in cash, I know sound crazy as Fck, but it’s reality, why u think they lease homes, may be about 2% of actual celebs that own properties, and give or take they not black; cars too; just look back at all the celebs in foreclosure or lost homes

  • NicoleZee

But can’t they write a check for the full amount if they can’t withdraw the cash??? I have never heard of such, I thought that you could get however much cash you need from the bank, although they might have you wait a few days. But if a person wanted to withdraw $1 million in cash, I would think they could do that, although the bank might recommend they don’t for safety reasons. It’s just sad to see people waste money and then go broke and have problems paying their bills because they wasted money on dumb stuff or took out too many loans. Really sad. Most past lottery winners are now broke or still on drugs or dead. Ridiculous.

  • NicoleZee

I haven’t been back to NY since my teen years. My cousin keeps asking me to come back and visit and I always choose to go somewhere else. New York is filled with rats the size of house cats, the people are rude and have nasty habits, city smells like piss, so no thanks! I dated a guy here in Atlanta that was from New York, he was terrible. He and his family were just nasty people. Although they were not real rude, they were just loud and nasty, I couldn’t deal. They kept a nasty house and nasty bodies. Not for me. I’ve always heard that New Yorkers aren’t very clean when it comes to their bodies or how they live, I know that’s not true for everyone, but it is true for some.

My cousins in New York are the same way, she is from here but moved to NY in her 20s and married and had a family and she is a nasty person and so are her children. No disrespect to anyone, but I just was not brought up to not care about my body or home environment. I CANNOT deal with people who have bad hygiene or a nasty home. Miss me please! That’s why I stopped going over people’s houses. Disgusting. A lot of major cities are just nasty too. I heard Paris was nasty. I’ve been to Dublin and it wasn’t too clean either, but the people were amazing! And I heard the people in London weren’t too nice and don’t really care for people of color anyway; I’ve been to the UK, but I haven’t been to London yet. God help me.

  • bemetoo

Chicago is so look nice to visit but some say that’s all it’s good for

  • bemetoo

It baffles me that there are condos aka apartments that cost way more than a single detach home..and that there are so many people purchasing them

  • caligirl001

What manison can your purchase is LA for $1.25 million? You can’t buy a 2 bedroom house in the hood for under 500K!

  • Anunnaki

Because these celebs are own by who pay them, Sandra did a write I think about a rapper that withdrew either 50k or 100k I believe and they was all over his Azz leaving the bank. If u can just remember this the only tangible thing that exist in money: is debits and credits: gold and silver, everything else is just an illusion, you can’t withdraw something that only actually exist on a computer screen.

  • NicoleZee

I’d be kind of scared to walk out of the bank with a large sum, that’s how people get robbed. I’ve been robbed before, but you learn your lesson. People just have to be more careful, nothing is foolproof, but walking around with a bunch of cash is a big no no. I hardly ever keep cash, I just use my debit card for everything. I’m surprised some people even still write checks! I stopped writing checks years ago, debit is so much easier and faster. I think more older people use checks since they have a harder time using the computer.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy??

Why does everyone like dumping on New Yorkers? I’m from new York and I don’t Assume southerners are slow and country as hell. Yeah some of y’all are foot shuffling coons but not all. Then you have the nerve to say new York’s are nasty and have bad hygiene? Really? What kind of ignorant bama shit is that? Do you really believe thst all new Yorkers are from new York originally? For real. I’m going to assume you’re black American and the nasty people you’ve encountered were also black american. Maybe the people you know and have met were filthy but don’t pin that on all New Yorkers. Yeah y’all so called nice in the south. Some of that shit is fake though and served with a slice of racism. In N.Y. what you see is what you get. I prefer that over the faux niceness of the south.

  • The Chosen One

    LMFAO. that is funny.

  • Missy

I’m southern, I was taught to be polite and kind, but I’m not going to be nice to an asshole that is being rude to me!

    Ditto.??

  • freelancepimp .

Not going to talk about Tyrese evading child abuse charges hunh?

  • Solstice

I’ve been to NY and never encountered any rudeness ????? Maybe because I’m already from a big city. I was there last September and I actually witnessed some NY citizens helping an elderly black lady carrying her luggage, who was lost walking in Times Square. I’ve been to Chicago plenty of times (used to spend a few summers there as a teen). I’ve got fam in the hood and fam in the burbs. I absolutely love it every time I go. Rude and kind people exist all over. ??????

  • Seek Truth Speak Truth

I am born and raised in NY but a Georgia peach for ten years now. I’m not a fan on living in NY and the people are very straight forward but I too wouldn’t say southerners are any nicer. It’s more spread out down south so the rudeness here is more dilated. There are people here who don’t say Good Morning and blah blah. Folks in general are rude AF.

  • Noirluv45

I guess it just depends on the person and where they live. I’ll take their word for it since they live there. It’s sad because the city sure does look nice.

  • Noirluv45

OMG, I heard about those rats there! I heard the people were very rude. The way you describe it, I wouldn’t want to go either! Ugh! I just don’t get how people stay nasty. It’s really disgusting to think. I’m with you on hygiene issues! That’s a deal breaker. My friend’s husband is from London and she’s been there and to Paris several times and she loves it! In fact, they are planning a trip to London to see her mother-in-law. She told me that in London, they can be standoffish until they get to know you. She said after that, they embrace you like they’ve known you for years. That’s her experience.

  • Sorry_Not_Sorry

Yes he dated Common too which really ain’t saying much cause Common ain’t ish. He’s a low key h0e

  • Yardgirl

I am with you on this!! My jaw is on the floor reading the stereotype of NYers, wow!! I love NY and the people there are no ruder than anywhere else. I have had many acts of kindness shown to me in the city and have encountered very rude people in the so-call nice states. And dirty?? Seriously people there are dirty?? SMH and KMT

  • KcoolMuziq

What single black Hollywood rapper/actor isn’t?

  • Sorry_Not_Sorry

It’s true I’ve lived in Chicago and NY and both cities have unusually rude and unfriendly people. Chicago people gravitate toward people they known since high school very cliquey l, anybody new their shady. New Yorkers gravitate toward their own from the city. IMO

  • Dahl

Man, best comment of the day!

  • Anunnaki

    Agree ?

  • NicoleZee

Oh, that makes sense. I’m just not about to kiss anyone’s ass or be nice to someone who’s rude with a disgusting attitude. I try my best to be kind to everyone, but when I’m pushed, I push back.I don’t care who it is, personal, professional, I stand up for myself. We have backbones for a reason! That’s why upbringing is important. If parents don’t teach their kids to be kind and to stand up for themselves, then they won’t.

  • NicoleZee

Um, you obviously did not read and comprehend my entire post. I already said no disrespect to anyone and I stated that I know not all New Yorkers are that way. However, I was speaking on MY personal experiences. I call it as I see it. If people are okay with being rude and having nasty bodies, then fine, but I do not have to be around them or settle for that kind of foolishness. I wasn’t brought up that way. I’m from Atlanta, so if people want to talk bad about the city or about southerners, then that’s their personal issue to deal with. I know that I’m not slow nor am I gay nor do I spread disease or whatever else people say about the city, so all the things said about Atlantans doesn’t affect me because I don’t live that kind of lifestyle. In all my years of living in Atlanta and being from here, I have never been with a man that even has a disease to spread! WTF??? So I don’t know where people are meeting such nasty folks like that. Weird.

I’m not about to apologize for caring about myself either. I keep my body and my home environment clean, so if people choose not to do the same2, then that’s on them. But there is nothing wrong with caring about yourself and your health and how you live, period. And if people want to criticize me for that, cool, no problem. I’m not about to live in filth or with vermin because I don’t have to. Its disgusting, unsanitary, and unhealthy. Rodents carry disease, so if I see a rat, I’m not about to make him my friend or ignore him. I’m running to the nearest exit!

  • Alicia.Ashe

    Stop lying

  • Seek Truth Speak Truth

    I’ll take the house.

  • NicoleZee

I couldn’t live in that kind of environment, I would have to move. I’ve only seen a rat once here in Atlanta. I was in the train station coming from a concert I think and I saw a rat by my foot. That nasty little thing was about to bite me!! I almost jumped on the white guy sitting next to me. He told me that it’s not unusual for rats to be in the train stations, that was my first time seeing one like that, I almost jumped out of my damn skin! Gross. At least the rats in Atlanta aren’t the size of a 9 month old like in NYC! LOL!

You’ll find that the further you go in European countries, the more obsolete people of color become. When I was in Ireland, everyone was so pleasant to me, but in certain parts they were not used to seeing a black person so I got certain stares and some people looked at me like I didn’t belong there, especially in certain attractions like the castles. I appreciate ALL history, so I see nothing wrong with a person of color learning about European history, the Royal monarchy, etc. I paid my damn money like everyone else, so I took my time at each exhibit or painting! Europe is expensive, I came home broke; even the white people were complaining about the prices! LOL!

She is in a much higher tax bracket…she will cap out on tax deductions and owe more. Also, it depends on the actual value of the property now. With rent, you don’t pay the yearly property taxes, maintenance, home owners insurance or HOA. ? I work in finance is how I know.

  • Mrs Mary

he still has one more charge against him and stillcannot see his daughter, i think he will have to agree to parenting classes in order to see his daughter again, they did my brother the same way. but he has to agree to parenting classes first and agree that he did wrong with his discipline towards her.

  • Mrs Mary

I am from Chicago and it is a BEAUTIFUL city..one of the most beautiful cities you could ever visit. I loved downtown CHicago…big sky rises, beautiful lights in the night, shopping centers, beaches, parks, museums, zoo i could go on and on…sooo beautiful. Unfortunately the one particular area being the south side of chicago is where all the shootings take place, that overshadows the fact that Chicago is soooo big that there are safe areas and not everyone is in danger of being shot when they leave their house. Please visit again you will always have a blast. not to mention the suburbs are also extremely nice with great shopping centers and the BEST FOOD IN THE WORLD~!!!!

  • Mrs Mary

EXACTLY…LOL WHAT PART SORRY NOT SORRY WENT TO AND WHERE DID THEY VISIT…YOU CANT BASE THAT ON ONE SIDE OF TOWN..SMH….IF YOU GO TO CHICAGO NUMBER ONE YOU GOT TO GO TO MAGNIFICIENT MILE, YOU GOT TO VISIT THE DOWNTOWN AREA FIRST…THE BEACHES, PARKS, ZOO AND MUSEUMS TO GET THE REAL BEAUTY OF IT NOT TO MENTION LAKE MICHIGAN!!!

Empire films in Chicago does that mean it’s coming to an end or is Ms. Henson going to leave if they don’t give her a raise as to what she feels she is worth?

  • Rhyme and Reason

Taraji is probably preparing to leave Empire (and, that steady paycheck), downsizing, flipping, stacking dollars, and making sure she continues to be very solvent in fickle Hollywood! What Bosses do!

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy??

Chicago was a poor market for investment. Since it was for work and not her principal residence seems like she’d have received a greater tax advantage if she rented. But maybe she’s a real estate mogul — if she has significant passive income, she can sell at a loss and still get a tax benefit.

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy??

Nah we’re all rude, dirty and keep nasty houses. ?

  • Jahnée Gill Mr.Eddie Murphy??

They are lying. New York is a metropolitan city. Most of the people that live there are not native new Yorkers. But the bamas can’t understand that.
They expect everyone to walk around with a shit eating grin plastered on their faces like they do. They’re no better than the ignorant clowns that generalize black people and assume we’re all alike. Chicago is the wild wild west according to the media. Am I suppose to assume everyone from that city is a gangbanger?

  • Sorry_Not_Sorry

Lying about what the people it’s my opinion you don’t have to believe it, but yes I lived in both places no big deal

  • Sorry_Not_Sorry

Like I said it’s my opinion of the cities you can have yours

  • Stationarity

Didn’t take into account the cap on deductions because of the price of the property. Renters still pay property taxes, HOA, expected cost of repairs, and maintenance. It’s built in the Rent. They just don’t write separate checks for it. No, when the stove needs to be replaced renters don’t pay $1000 out of pocket for the stove but they have been paying $200 plus over the value of the properties mortgage. Why would a landlord not pass the property tax on to the renter? I know my renter pays the mortgage, $495 HOA dues, property taxes, homeowners insurance, and expected maintenance, and a little extra on top of that. Its just spread out over 12 months lease.

Touché though… I see and get where you are coming from. I just feel like rules for renting, buying, paying in cash vs mortgage etc. are never really as absolute as they are presented.

I love New Yorkers, originally from Chicago, have lived in Alabama and Indiana. I have family all over and have visited various states. New Yorkers are IMO, too, what you see is what you see get or cut to the chase (what you want?) people!

I’ve worked in sales and New York accts were always my favorite because I found them to be decisive, is you is, or is you ain’t kind of people.

Better networkers (New Yorkers) than Chicagoans, which is Jim Crow, plantation or reservation kind of town that breeds insane violence and jealousy, hence the crime and shootings (NOT ALL city dwellers or suburbanites either)!

I love Southerners, not all have charm either, it’s my family roots (great times), and the farmer’s market is everything!

Most of these States, many people have migrated or relocated for a variety of reasons, like New York, California, Texas or Minnesota, i.e.!

Natives vary depending on background and experience!

Crime is everywhere, we all know that. But if someone chooses not to go somewhere, then I think they have that right as we all do. Every city has good and bad attributes but you can’t make someone do anything or like anything, at least not in this country :)! Enjoy the rest of the weekend.

From what I saw, I’m going to have to agree. It really is beautiful. I wanted to see and do more there, but didn’t have the time. I remember being amazed at how HUGE that lake was. I think it’s Lake Michigan? I couldn’t believe it. You see, that’s what bothers me. The negativity of the South side casts a negative cloud over the rest of the city and to me that isn’t fair. I tell ya, I plan on visiting again. That is one item on my bucket list. ?? Yes, I wanted to taste the food too! I wanted me some famous Chicago pizza. I ate at the train station, but that wasn’t good enough for me. You guys definitely have that good food reputation.

  • Noirluv45
