Prince Harry and American actress Meghan Markle posed during an official photocall to announce their engagement at The Sunken Gardens at Kensington Palace on Monday, November 27 in London, England. Harry's father, Prince Charles, announced the engagement in a statement early Monday.

Harry, 33, and Meghan, 36, have been a couple officially since November 2016 and are due to marry in Spring 2018. They will reside in his cottage on the grounds of Kensington Palace in London.

Ms. Markle's parents Mr. Thomas Markle and Doria Ragland wished the couple "a lifetime of happiness."

"We are incredibly happy for Meghan and Harry," they said in a statement released by Kensington Palace. "Our daughter has always been a kind and loving person. To see her union with Harry, who shares the same qualities, is a source of great joy for us as parents.

Harry Meghan engagement

Harry and Meghan's engagement comes after the actress opened up about her relationship with the prince in an interview with Vanity Fair magazine earlier this year, in which she described their romance as a traditional "love story".

According to Us Weekly magazine, Harry used diamonds from a brooch previously owned by his late mother, Princess Diana, to craft an entirely unique engagement ring for his new fiancée.

Harry, whose given name is Henry, is fifth in line to the British throne. Those ahead of him include his father, Prince Charles, his brother William, and his nephew Prince George, 4, and niece Princess Charlotte, 2.

Harry will be pushed back further to sixth in line after Prince William's wife, Kate, gives birth to their third child next spring.

    Congratulations to the beautiful couple!

  • Ghost

Glad for the happy couple. Harry and William will always hold a special place in my heart after the death of their mother and all the bru ha ha around it.

Times are "a changing"..the next generation of the royal family will have a little color...

  • Kanyade

Awww congrats to them again. Nice that he used gems from his mom's brooch. Very sweet.

  • Gone Too Far

Let’s pray that she doesn’t mysteriously die or disappear. We haven’t forgotten what they did to Diana and her Egyptian boo. Congratulations to them! Black queen in the palace

  • Mrs. ??????????

I cant believe the Queen is going to let this happen.....Markle better sleep with one eye open.

  • HTOWNPuffPuffBlockGameStrong

Congrats You Two!! I've always Looooved me some Harry, he really seems like a down to earth person. He's more like his mother... ?

  • YES I SAID IT…

I always liked Harry, he is such a nice looking guy and she's a pretty lady as well so no matter what ignorant racist people might say about them, they look happy together and I am sure they are truly in luv with one another and luv is luv! So congrats to the 2 and I wish them nothing but happiness in their future together.

  • Yetunde

As a black British woman, I can say that I am immensely happy. It has nothing to do with me and I don't know them personally, but it lifts my spirit. I never thought I would see this day in my lifetime.

  • HoneyyGoodMoneyy_

Harry got a little soul in him .. i like it.

  • jussaying

She's American? Lol dang I thought she was Canadian all this time womp womp to me lol.

  • Bonsai

Now that's what I call a beautiful engagement ring. Not tooo big and bulky looking.

  • Seek Truth Speak Truth

Um, I doubt their union will result in a child. Sleep on Queen Elizabitch all you want...

  • Guess Who

How do you think the Royals feel about this? I mean is it customary for them to intermarry with a 5th or 6th cousin/relative who is considered pure white? Does it matter because he's not the heir to the throne and she's just a consort?

  • AQUEEN

I love everything about this story...she is a mixed heritage 37 year old divorcee that was able to still find love...against all odds within the Royal family... with a man who has had his own trials as well...this is movie worthy

  • Omega

    #MixedGirlMagic

  • Guess Who

Maybe changing.....but the Queen seems like she is VERY strict when it comes to tradition and keeping the Monarchy "pure". Let's hope Meggie Weggie doesn't mysteriously disappear or get stabbed by some deranged Englishman.

  • starbright9449

She has no kids and she's not dark skinned. I guess the Queen isn't that pressed about it. You go Meghan!! We all know how royalty and a lot of people can be, smile in your face but despise you behind your back.

  • Whiplash(lacejagger)

He is signaling his allegiance to the Free Masons.. See the hand gesture in the coat? That's nice on the engagement.

  • Gone Too Far

We’ll see how long she lasts. I’m happy about the guy she’s marrying, but not so much his family. They made it to an engagement so hopefully the marriage goes on. I want it to work

  • Luv Pitties

I think Harry may give yogis royalty like that other guy who married an American but was a royal.

  • Dem Moore

You go girl, I always tell these girl get the man with money, now that can keep you warm at night.

  • Vegas1989

    I'm happy for them. Congratulations!

  • Yetunde

I think they're trying to step into the 21st century and move away from the old customary ideals. As far as I'm aware, the Queen and Prince Philip are distant cousins, but I don't think any of her children married cousins. I think the Royals are more accepting of this than the general public to be honest. At times like this, you see the real prejudices coming out. People were angry when William married Kate, 'a commoner', so they'll be up in arms about this for sure. There has already been a lot of hostility towards them. Harry had to release a statement when it became public that they were dating. The Royals very rarely release statements, so it was a big deal. He said he was shocked and disgusted by the comments towards her. He didn't know such racism still existed.
I also doubt that William would've been able to get away with this, because he is the direct heir to the throne.

  • Karen Brady

I don't care about these celeb couples but I actually looked up and smiled at the tv this morning. I like it alot. He's got swagger and she's beautiful. I know all those girls he used to date are HOT today!

  • Karen Brady

Queen Elizabitch. LOL.. Rickey Smiley said she must be 200 years old by now.

  • Karen Brady

    lol

  • Karen Brady

get stabbed by some deranged Englishman.???? I am about to get out my chair and roll on the floor laughing.

  • DaughterOfaQueen

Not sure what all the hype is about? This ain't no win for black women wtf.

  • Karen Brady

And back to reality. No it's not.

  • DaughterOfaQueen

Personally I know nothing about her, folks feelings gone get hurt when says she don't rock with y'all like that?

  • Karen Brady

I'm sure some think her cousins Junebug and Nae Nae will show up and show out at the wedding. The queen will faint and Phillip will be flabbergasted. I'll be tuning in just in case. *ducks my head*

  • Karen Brady

She already don't from the little I know of her. Had I not read she was 'black' when they started dating I would have never guessed.

  • TheOwley

Congrats to them, they always look happy together. I have been reading about this from the UK websites and I'm amazed that for a nation that considers itself forward thinking in race relations, their comments are downright racist. More interesting is how they veiled their sentiment.

Had this been a virginal white American woman they would have been less noisy about it. They really hate the royals over there and this union adds fuel to the fire with people calling for the end of the tax supported monarchy. To compare her to Wallis Simpson is bad enough but who wants to live in a fishbowl where your own family hates you.

  • Moon Lee

American, a actress, tainted bloodline??? Girl, you aren't safe! Don't do it !

  • wiseone

I was thinking the same thing.

  • Desiree Edwards

let the swirl romance begin! lololol

  • MythCalledLove

Waiting for someone to drop a sex tape or some pics soon.

  • Gone Too Far

    That sentence killed me lol

  • EMILY POST

Its amazing she was the most googled actress in 2016 and all the American media did was ignore and hope it wasnt true and kept pumping the Kardashians stories... LOL
THe American media was all up on the Royals and then when Harry met Meghan.. that changed... they did their best to ignore that relationship... because she is considered black now if that was one of their lily white american women they would have went nuts.

  • ?E?E?M?A

Well that firstborn come out with a head full of naps it's going to be the end of the monarchy. The Blacks are going to uprise. It's going to be rap music at the dinners, fried chicken, and weed smoking everywhere.

  • MythCalledLove

I've been thinking about that and why they hv no public objections.I think it is because many many many many people don't believe Prince Charles is his father. Plus he will never be King unless all 6 in line are killed. I'm waiting to see if her crown is part of the Queen/ family jewels. Or will everything be from his mom. They hv to hv a united front. They want to appear as they are changing with the times. And I also wondered if her skin was darker would things be the same.

  • MythCalledLove

Just dust her off and prop her up...lol

  • MythCalledLove

And don't forget many don't believe his father is Prince Charles.

  • You Could Never

    Thanks for this breakdown

  • ?E?E?M?A

That car crash was shadyyy! They made sure they didn't do it on English soil tho. Diana was the most powerful woman in the world at the time of her crash with all her influence.

  • Toni Wiggins-Sorzano

Is he pushed back since he married late? ANd I knew it was coming since it was talked about so much I had and then she quit her job, and moved in.

I'm not impressed tho. HAd he married a divorced BLACK woman with two kids, and who lives in the projects. Then I would be impressed. Nonetheless I am happy for her.

  • Toni Wiggins-Sorzano

    She is Canadian

  • free

i already told yall harry was gonna marry black. anywho, his mama did well. her boys ain't down with the normal protocols. i'm proud of 'em.

  • Karen Brady

and who lives in the projects. *giggling my behind off*

  • Toni Wiggins-Sorzano

That would be me. So I'm needing someone to come to my hood and sweep me off my damn feet.

  • Karen Brady

*CRINE* Just *CRINE*. Queen will be backing that thang up on Phillip. They'll definitely enjoy it.

  • Karen Brady

    Interesting call. Let's see.

  • Toni Wiggins-Sorzano

He couldn't resist that magic child.

they knew it was a wrap when PC married diana.

This is why she said, "I'm sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time."

  • Seek Truth Speak Truth

    Glad someone else noticed.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

    Not black, biracial.

  • free

this was years ago before he even met her; he seemed like the type.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

A Canadian born in Los Angeles?

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

She's moving too quickly, but that's typical of American women. Always rushing a man down the aisle before they even get to know him good.

  • Toni Wiggins-Sorzano

OH she is? Hell I thought she wasn't Canadian. I never read up on her cause I don't care that much. Ok cool.

  • free

    black.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Charles' mother, Queen Elizabeth, pressured him to marry Diana because she knew he was in love with an older woman, Camilla. That was dirty how he did Diana.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

As a black British woman myself, I think the American is pushing Harry too fast. He's still sowing his wild oats. She will be sorry the day she catches him cheating on her.

  • Toni Wiggins-Sorzano

Com'on now Aunty. Don't put that off on "American Woman" only. I am sure all woman from different backgrounds are guilty for moving too quickly when it comes to relationships.

But yes I do agree that she is moving too swiftly. It's only been a year, and she done quit her damn job (which I am highly against) left her pad and moved in. There is nothing wrong with taking your time. If he loves you, he isn't going anywhere.

  • Toni Wiggins-Sorzano

Nah I can agree. It's something about him to seems like he would go against the grain with everything.

  • YES I SAID IT…

Her death was senseless and tragic and I'm sure her boys miss her a great deal

  • Wreckognize Game

Harry seems to be relaxed after the Prince Charles and Princess Diana's bitter situation.

  • guest

I need the BODY LANGUAGE EXPERTS, PLEASE? Thank you.

  • TawnyDelux

He’s 5th in line cause his brother keeps pumping babies in his wife.

  • ?E?E?M?A

Yea. She was a remarkable woman. They don't make them like her anymore. She wrote a letter to her butler saying her husband was going to kill her in a car crash. The handwritten letter is easily searchable on the internet.

  • Karen Brady

"I have come to embrace [this and] say who I am, to share where I'm from, to voice my pride in being a strong, confident, mixed-race woman."

  • rachel

She is 100% CORRECT. As a biracial woman, I applaud her for standing in her truth. To call her black is to deny her father's DNA and his "fatherhood". She is the product of a black mother AND Caucasian father - she is biracial. PERIOD.

  • Li

I swear they look like brother and sister.

  • Lady_Elle

    Hi Auntie...
They have known each other for about a year. What say you about the dopamine involved in this?

I think this is good... personally.

  • Li

They look like they're in love to me. And those English men have longgggg marriages. Their wives don't leave and divorce them.

  • KLo

    #winning congrats

  • Noirluv45

True, she is biracial, but in the scheme of things, how does that affect Black people? I wish people had as much fervor about being Black, especially our children. I really don't care how biracial people identify. I never have identified them as Black. Many of them see themselves as Black and I respect that. Biracial people are being used by the White establishment anyway. That's why you see them represented in the media more so that Black people. I applaud my people for standing in their truth. Too many of US have identity problems. That's my concern only.

  • OP2

I have a long line of family members who have done the same. Yet, they have been married for decades and seen their kids off to colleges and grands and great-grands and all.

I also have immediate younger family members who are coming up on their 15th, 18th and 26th yr wedding anniversary. They were married at 19, 20 and 22. Husband and wives all have some type of STEM degree (B.S. to PhD). Look at Kelly Rippa and her husband who eloped after only 5-8mts of courtship. -and they too are still married!

The difference is dating those who are of like minds and not highly dysfunctional with like minds (God-fearing; family-oriented, academically competitive and career-oriented) and goals in life for self and children. -those who wildout and marry just about any and everything because will soon live to regret it.

Our folks have to get back to way things use to be with respect for self and their partners and family name and stop buying into all of that dysfunctional hollywierd behavior.

Black folks that have no moral boundaries or shame in their game have made a mess of so many lives and given their family nothing to be proud of. ijs

  • Noirluv45

There are a handful of people who get married right away and make it, but that doesn't equate (and I'm not talking specifically about your family) longevity. I have a friend who has been in an unhappy marriage for 30 years. It's always good to know a person before you commit to them. Education has nothing to do with it either.

  • GradyBaby

Right. I agree. And she is lovely and I wish them happiness.

  • Noirluv45

I hate both of you for making me choke!

  • Noirluv45

Why are Black people always so hung up on how biracial people identify? It's kinda sick to me. She's biracial. OK, now what? If we put that much energy into instilling pride our OUR OWN CHILDREN, they would've have identity problems.

  • OP2

I agree to a certain extent, but I'll be darn if I roll around in the hay for years on end for man with no sign of marriage in sight. Meanwhile in shacking up, it is giving way to out-of-wedlock babies and never getting the respectful title of wife. Then, the man easily walks away without the benefit or responsibility to the spouse. -but to each their own. lol

Unlike dating, courtship is suppose to be serious (deeper and more respectful) a with a purpose (or end goal) of becoming engaged for a marriage. It is dating to see if each other are worthy and suitable for self and acceptance of family. The liberal way of doing things have turned out to be a hot-mess! ijs

  • T

He’s a Virgo. No one can tell them what to do:)

  • Karen Brady

    Chile...

  • Noirluv45

I pictured what you both wrote and just about lost it! ?

  • Noirluv45

I'm with you on that! I don't blame you. That's what so many women do. They are okay being the eternal girlfriend, but giving wifely benefits. Why should he marry her when he's getting what he needs and wants without being married? I was saying the same thing last week here on SR. ????

  • AnotherBlackGirl

Ok. They look happy, although I don't know much about either of them, other than the fact that he is Princess Diana's youngest son. So I'll just say congrats.

  • NicoleZee

My son is biracial, but he is STILL black, even though he is also Hispanic. A person with one black parent and one Hispanic parent is still black racially, but they are Hispanic in terms of ethnicity. In Meghan Markle's case, she's still black if she has one fully black parent, but if she wants to identify as mixed race, her choice.

  • NicoleZee

I knew it! Congrats to them. I hope the Prince treats her well and has given up his playboy ways. They look cute together! She's pretty, but I wonder why she gave up her job on her TV show??? I guess you can't be an actress and a princess!

  • Noirluv45

I don't know if I believe in the one-drop rule per se. I do believe people can identify anyway they want. I never just assume a biracial person mixed with Black is Black. That's just my POV, but I totally understand yours. You're right. It ultimately is the individual person's choice.

  • NicoleZee

The Brits are way more popular in Europe of course as opposed to here in America. They are highly respected, especially in the U.K. where the Queen rules. So as I've traveled to the U.K. and in Canada where the Queen also rules, it came with knowing to have respect for the Royals, that's just how it is there. I went to college with a friend of mine who's black and she's from London. She used to tell me all about the Royals. When you're a prince, women will follow you around hoping to get their chance of being princess. She told me that when Prince William was in college, women would enroll just to get close to him. That is waaaaay too much energy spent on trying to get a man, prince or not! LOL!

  • NicoleZee

I've heard that too. It gets confusing. I try to focus on what us the person's actual race and ethnicity are. But if a person has parents that are also mixed, then I have no earthly idea how they would even identify other than just being mixed race/biracial if you're unable to check a specific race when you fill out legal and government documents. Someone told me that race and ethnicity depends on what the person's father is. Hell if I know.

  • NicoleZee

Princess Diana divorced Charles remember, she was miserable from the beginning if you recall their story. I think they had to ask the Queen first if they could divorce. Glad we don't have a monarchy here and glad I'm not a Royal! What the hell do I look like asking my mama if I can divorce somebody I want to get rid of??? LOL!

  • Sorry_Not_Sorry

True plus Camilla’s old a$$ couldn’t give him any heirs. On another note Meghan is not a spring chicken herself she’s 36 so she need to get going in the baby dept fairly soon.

  • Sorry_Not_Sorry

You might want to see that interview they did today on YouTube it’s about 20 minutes. You can tell he’s crazy about her and leaving the bachelor lifestyle wasn’t second thought. He’s been sowing all his wild oats in 20s how long should he go on that. It gets old. Should he be Leonardo Decaprio in his 40s dating 20 year olds he looks pathetic.

  • Li

But that's the point. SHE asked for the divorce, not the other way around.
It appears to me for all their faults the men in the family are loyal and devoted family men. I'm sure there's scandal someplace, but on the surface they seem to be upholding family tradition.

As for Diana having to ask the Queen for a divorce, if you recall for the longest in Ireland and England getting a divorce as a no-no. They had to pass laws allowing no-fault divorces.

I'm just saying that all the marriages (except for a couple) seem to last a very long time.

  • NicoleZee

Not necessarily Auntie. If two people have themselves together and they are of age and love each other, then marrying quickly might make more sense than just having a boyfriend or girlfriend for 20 years. However, I think some people want marriage, but they may not be financially or emotionally ready, which causes a delay if they are smart. No woman should want an immature man that cannot provide for her and her children. Being homeless and hungry on the street with your kids is not how anyone wants to end up. So anytime a broke guy even mentions marriage to me, my answer has always been hell naw!

  • Li

That whole 1/4 black thingy is pretty much dead and retired. Kids today don't ID with black or white or this and that. They just consider themselves biracial.

I heard a term today that threw me -- binary? What the hell is being binary. You know people today are making shYT up, just pulling it out the air.

  • Li

They dated for 1-1/2 years. That's a fairly long time IMO.

  • Li

Markle is no dummy. Read her biog. She graduated from Northwestern University and on TV today her professor said she was very smart.

  • NicoleZee

She never should have married Charles, she didn't want to at the last minute. I think it was her sister that convinced her. Sad. I realize that being a princess is a big deal, but I don't think I could coexist with being miserable just for money and a title, but to each their very own. I guess I'm just too much of my own person, I make my own decisions, and if I don't want to be with someone, he gots to go! That's what I'm used to, not being forced to stay with someone, it's creepy and sick when you're in that situation and being forced to do something. No thanks! If you have ever been severely depressed with someone and miserable on the verge of not wanting to live, you never ever in life want to be in that situation again if you survive. Just speaking from the heart.

  • Noirluv45

That's exactly what I'm been told, Nicole, and the race/ethnicity depends on the daddy, but I don't know either. My sister's step son just had a baby two months ago. He's biracial (dad=Black/mom=White) and the baby's mother is Puerto Rican and White. To me, that baby will be more White than anything. In fact, she looks White. Race/ethnicity can be so confusing.

  • NicoleZee

If you ask the old folks, they tell you straight up, if you're not black you're white, and if you're not white, you're black! LOL! That's how I grew up, with old school parents and grandparents. I'm fully black so there is no confusion and my son is being raised by me and my mom, who is also black. So I can't see him identifying as anything other than black generally speaking, but if he chooses to call himself biracial or mixed, cool, as long as he is not trying to erase or ignore the fact that he is still black and the fact that he has a mama and grandmama that will beat that ass if he ever embarrasses us!

  • T

Go Megan on your second marriage.

But it worked for Kate Middleton. She copied his itinerary during his gap year and kept missing him by weeks at the places he was volunteering. She applied to all the schools he was thought to be applying to and accepted to St. Andrews after he announced where he was going.

Her mother made sure her daughters married well. On one had I think it is terrible, and on the other. . . I'm kind of impressed.

Nope, it was a wrap when pc divorced Diana to marry the woman he wanted to be a tampon to. Not to mention Andrew hanging with Epstein or Harry's grandfather & great-great uncle were reputed Nazi sympathizers.

  • NicoleZee

I wouldn't want my mom all in my vagina like that! Making decisions on who I date or screw, no thanks mom! However, parents should give advice, but not control who their children sleep with, grown people do what they want really. The last guy I dated was a psychotic idiot, my mom was the one that pointed it out and helped me see clearer when I was in denial. Now I know to stop trying to help mentally deranged people who need a padded room! So guidance and advice are good, but I wouldn't want my mom picking out men for me or getting involved in my bedroom business. Creepy and yuck. My mom cringes at the word sex and can't even say the word so there you go! LOL!

  • JanusMaximus

They moving too fast; a year is nothing (especially when you've just met). Hope it's a long engagement....
