corporations

Telecom giant AT&T and other corporations pledged to give each of their employees $1,000 bonuses after Congress approved tax cut reform.

AT&T was the first to announce plans to distribute $1,000 bonuses to 200,000 employees after President Donald Trump signs the GOP tax reform legislation into law.

The House and the Senate approved the sweeping tax cut measure on Tuesday and early Wednesday morning. Not one Democrat approved tax cuts for hard working Americans.

"Congress, working closely with the President, took a monumental step to bring taxes paid by U.S. businesses in line with the rest of the industrialized world," AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson said in a statement on Wednesday. "This tax reform will drive economic growth and create good-paying jobs. In fact, we will increase our U.S. investment and pay a special bonus to our U.S. employees."

AT&T said it will also invest $1 billion into the American economy.

Late Wednesday, Comcast NBCUniversal, Boeing, and others also pledged to give their employees $1,000 bonuses.

Additionally, Comcast is pledging at least $50 billion over the next five years to boost the economy.

Do you work for any of these companies? How do you plan to spend your bonuses?

Thank you President Trump for making America great again!

Yawwwwwnnnnn. They could have done this before the tax cuts.

Well "Isn't that speshul" **said in my church lady voice**

  • Ms.Vanilla

You know I am really sick and tired of these Trump posts. Sandra you do realize that most of your readers are NOT republican right? Therefore it's rude of you to constantly praise YOUR choice for president when you know full well these posts are not wanted. You are such a toddler.

  • Reese

But the only problem is....The bill doesn't take effect until 2019, considering it won't be signed until 2018. So that $1000 will be in the wind by that point. People are so gullible and the government, corporations and anybody that's wealthy knows this. That's why they know these little crumbs will quiet the peanut gallery down.

  • Luvn_it

Hell the way Comcast be ripping ppl off they should've been able to give their employees a $1000 bonus, pay raise, and a paid vacation on top of it.?

  • NeverSurprised

Also, companies are announcing wage increases BECAUSE OF THE TRUMP TAX BILL.

Fifth Third Bancorp said it would increase its hourly minimum wage to $15 for U.S. employees, and

Wells Fargo said it would increase its minimum wage for U.S. employees from $13.50 to $15 and spend $400 million on donations to nonprofits and community organizations in 2018.

    https://www.google.com/amp/amp.timeinc.net/time/5074911/tax-reform-bill-company-investments-bonuses

Democrats encouraged PROTESTING as a way to increase wages, and it didn't work. Trump gave companies the ECONOMIC INCENTIVE to increase wages by giving us corporate tax breaks. In ONE DAY, those tax breaks are already putting more money in the pockets of American workers. BUSINESSMEN know how to implement policies that encourage economic growth. Community activists do not.

  • MissHarlem

I'm seriously cracking up because I know people are dumb and think this is an honorable bonus. Numb nuts when they give these bonuses to the employees the corporations get a huge kickback and to add insult to injury that lil stack you got was just a write off for the company. In a nutshell you're not giving a bonus just cuz its I give you this so I can gain more in the end off of your strength? ?

  • University
  • Scromes1212

So getting a bonus is a bad thing? That was the whole point. Give the corporations incentive to give bonuses and higher wages.

  • Scromes1212

    Thank you

  • JV

Well, just 14% of U.S. businesses polled said they will "to make large, immediate capital investments in the United States," according to a Yale poll. I'm sure there will be some short turn benefits -- and that's great! -- but a lot of the benefits in this bill are going to sunset by 2027 and the "trickle down system" is more myth than fact in application, and the affluent are by far receiving the biggest boon from this.

  • Scromes1212

You don't have to be a Trump supporter to agree with the tax bill.

  • Scromes1212

That tax bill really hurt smh they scrambling lol

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Those corporations employ 80% of the U.S. work force. Trump is enabling them to bring jobs back from foreign countries. Without those corporations, the economy would continue to suffer. It's sad that you don't know that.

    T-mobile are you listening?

Girl you might as well pick you up some shackles from Home Depot

Posts like these bring in the trolls who constantly come in solely to make ignorant comments, which means more clicks. I used to do marketing/consulting for bloggers and when they mentioned they wanted to go this route I tried to talk them out of it because it usually backfires and pushes away the users who were loyal to their otherwise quality content. Then even the trolls start to leave when there's hardly anybody left to try to antagonize. But on the phone one day one of them blurted out to me "I need to EAT!!" and I just let it go ?

  • Scromes1212

    Can you hear me now?

  • Scromes1212

    Lol

  • ?Royalty?

You know some people are glass half empty depression terrorist.

The tax write offs shes referring to apply to us as well. Practically any monetary gift you give to someone can end up a nice tax break for you. So I have no idea why this was a point of contention for that person. *shrug*

  • MissHarlem

You will purposely miss my point and I don't have the tedious time today. Bonus is great hell I'm working on getting our department one as we speak. I'm more informed with how they work so my job is keeping the integrity of the company while not using the employees. Enjoy your holiday. I have a 1 pm deadline before I leave and like these companies I want the staff to get them.

  • Scromes1212

    Exactly smh

  • ?Royalty?

Thank you. I swear some people just need to be pi$$ed.

  • MissHarlem

Great for them I'm working on getting our department the same without the extra nonsense. Enjoy your holiday.

  • Scromes1212

Did you wear a body suit to work?

  • JV

The "whole point" was a massive cash cow for the highest earners and GOP donors. This didn't simplify the tax code -- "H & R Block will be going out of business!" -- and the middle class (well, most of the middle class anyway) could have gotten a modest tax break without the negatives of this bill, of which there are many.

And don't think they won't not go after entitlements next year to make up for the lost government revenue.

(wow I can't type today, so many errors!)

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

"Sandra you do realize that most of your readers are NOT republican right?"

But they're American, right? And this tax cut bill was the biggest news in America. Why shouldn't I report on it? It sounds like you don't like the time you've spent here in the Garden.

  • MissHarlem

Oh and for the ones who refuses to comprehend bonuses are a great thing for both.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Americans will start to see a difference in their paychecks starting in January 2018, not 2019. Stop spreading misinformation.

  • Mo Mobetta

Girl you can’t tell a fool anything. They’re always thinking somebody getting over on people. Instead of just calling a blessing a blessing. I’m certain the employees ain’t mad lol.

  • Rhyme and Reason

I am shocked at how people are not questioning this Tax Bill.as an Independent (thinker and listener) to any of these parties!

Many Americans are working two and three jobs to make it already, wages will increase, but working one full-time job to meet living expenses with our hefty cost of living is very far away...

Apple and others aren't going to let go of their slave wage production lines...we can't even process our own fish and meat that we raise here, but China brings it to your table or Chipotle's kitchen!

Doesn't this resemble the housing bubble or the Wall Street crash???

What do we lose for these cuts?

How will tax payers absorb the cost for this potentially trillion dollar addition to our already trillion dollar deficit?

How will this Tax Bill help make cash-strapped States great again, especially in rural American where there is way less industry and jobs?

We're CAPITALISTS, so big business (Corporate Monopolies) wins as usual!

I knew Trump would be PRESIDENT FOR A SECOND TERM...he won't have to steal it with Russia's help next time, they've pulled off a major coo on the American suckers, I mean people!

  • Scromes1212

I love your name lol the first thing I thought was Mo better, makes it mo better lol

  • hottlanta

Still didn't hear Dump say these tax breaks are so great that me and Ivanka are going to lead by example by bringing our corporations back to the U.S. for continued job growth. Wow employees giving their employees a raise. Really when was the last time they had one. The raise you are giving them is one you should have given them years ago so the employee still gotta play catchup to inflation but you wasted no time giving yourself one whether they got one or not. Now Mr. Corporate President you have boldly said you gonna give employees a $1.50 an hour more raise to $15.00 an hour please tell us how much you are gonna gain in salary from this tax bill. Those are the numbers I wanna see not Larry in the mailroom

  • Scromes1212

Y'all kill me smh so a raise is bad cause it came from the republicans? They dam sure didn't get no raises the last 8 years lol

  • JV

"Those corporations employ 80% of the U.S. work force."

I think the math is juuuuuust a bit fuzzy here

  • Ms.Vanilla

I like your answer. What a shame.

  • JV

Actually there's a lot less trolling on here than I remember. I think it's more that people have different opinions and there's a lot of back-and-forth's, which I don't mind personally. However I don't at all disagree with the principle of what you're saying though.

People have to look deeper than just before their faces instead of looking at something temporarily. That's how people get taken in. The devil dangles a jewel knowing people are going to go right along with it until thing take a turn for the worse. This tax bill is for the rich.

  • Ryan

It does look like the trolling's decreased, which is always good. Somebody said her posts used to get 800+ replies - if so maybe the site can get back up to that.

  • Ryan

    It is.

  • Mastermind

Ahm sayin'. I got a friend who is complaining about the tax cuts and everything Trump do as a matter fact but then tells me he gon' get mo money from his stocks that pay dividends as a result of the tax legislation and then urged me to get in the market quick, smh them democrats got black folks schitzophrenic

  • Ajavee

Well it is her blog tho....

  • TMW

I’m sure those bonuses are taxed.

  • University

I had a friend who said the majority are fake accounts. Mostly one or two with multiple accounts who go around antagonizing with propaganda and so forth.

  • Noirluv45

People see only as far as their faces. They see "raises" "bonuses" and jump for joy not thinking that in the long run, the cost is going to cause us to go into a deficit like you said.

  • iWasteTime

    Where is the blessing though.
The tax breaks for the "middle class" expire in 2025. With this bill those who make less than 75K in a year taxes are going up, period and those of us who live in the states where the MAJORITY of federal taxes come from get no break.
This bill only benefits the ultra rich and corporations and trust and believe they are getting a tax write off for their 2017 taxes

  • iWasteTime

and a write off for the company

  • Mastermind

Well then correct it. Where are your stats?

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

It's a nice gesture I guess. The money's always appreciated.

But these companies give multi-million dollar bonuses to their executives year after year... and now they want to pat themselves on the back for giving their workers a $1000 bonus this year?
    Sorry, I'm not super-impressed.

  • Readytochokemothernatureout

Yes they will promise to do something and don't follow through.....

  • iWasteTime

    Where is the blessing though.
The tax breaks for the "middle class" expire in 2025. With this bill those who make less than 75K in a year taxes are going up, period and those of us who live in the states where the MAJORITY of federal taxes come from get no break.

  • Noirluv45

Sandra, it's not all the "icing on top" that people have to look at. They have to look at THE LONG RUN and how this tax deal with affect us down the road. That's how people get fooled. If you think 45 and his crew really care about the low/middle class, it's sad.

  • Ryan

That's true. There are sites that literally teach trolling 101, like how to take a person's picture off of social media and flip it (so that the owner of the pic doesn't come across the profile in a Google search) so that they seem like they're black but they're not.

  • hottlanta

I bet the executive and his friends got a raise in 10 years. All the money the employee didn't get goes back to the CEO pockets. I have gotten raises when the economy was doing bad. No supervisor never told me I can't give you a raise because the company didn't get any special tax cuts this year. Stop the madness.

  • Ms.Vanilla

She's lost so many loyal readers and most of the replies now are Sandra herself under other names. I would guess that she only has about 20 or so readers now. Everyone else is Sandra trying to keep this cess pool afloat.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

Exactly. The rich and super rich throw some crumbs at the working class and they want you to pat them on the back like they're actually looking out for us? ...As if we don't know that this Republican tax bill is a gift to the rich paid for by $1 trillion in debt that the working class and middle class will end up paying for. People are just way too gullible.

  • JV

lmao well... a quick Google search suggests that as of 2012, about 240,000 work for AT & T -- globally, that is. 323 MILLION people live in the U.S., so..... I can't see the 5 or 6 other companies making up the difference.

  • Foodforthesoul

I’m an Att employee. The 1k bonus came from our Union contract for a pay raise that took them like 2yrs to agree to. So it’s our unpaid wages Also we got a 1500 bonus last year around thanksgiving but trust it’s taxed as a gift so say bye bye to 40% of it. Will never complain we make 75k a year but the company is draining to work for. I just find it funny this was such big news when they gave more of a bonus last year. Also they give bonuses about 2/3yrs if the company had really good sales. So essentially this was earned years ago and not every employee and department are getting 1k. Also you might want to report the major layoffs Att is doing they just let go of two large call centers tons of techs in Georgia and about to surplus majority of customer service to outside vendors.

  • Scromes1212

Kind of like they did with Obamacare smh

  • Li

This is good news. Now lets' spread it across the country. Service wkrs been begging for $15 hr minimum wage, and the companies are just now starting to give it to them.
But truth be told, Obama tried to get similar legislation passed, but you know the black guy couldn't convince the white guys to do it.
But I still wouldn't vote for Trump!

  • Foodforthesoul

And by outside vendors I don’t mean foreigners. I mean 3rd party call centers. So plenty will be losing jobs soon. Also the moment ppl realize there is No such thing is a customer service line. It’s sales and customer service you will see. And with more and more 3rd party vendors taking Customer calls the more you can expect bad service cause they can’t do anything but send in a request for an order. Which takes 10-14 days to be processed. And if you notice the disappearance of core Att stores yup they will be gone in the next two years will be nothing but authorized users. Can’t promise jobs when you cutting them left and right with you current employees and hiring outside vendors.

  • hottlanta

Betta say I. I had to curse them out last week when I saw my internet bill for $50.00 and then they had the nerve to charge me an extra $20.00 for internet usage which came to $70.00. They gonna tell me I went over my normal usage and had to charge me. They charging internet service like cellphone service by megabytes and they showed me no proof of their calculations and I have no notification on my computer to let me know I have used an allotted amount. Straight up bullshyt. Then when they merge with Time Warner it is going to get worst. Read your bill.

  • Noirluv45

Yes, but when the wages go up, many companies, especially small ones can't afford to pay for healthcare so there will be cuts. They have to make it up somehow. We cannot only look at the surface.

  • Scromes1212

At least you admitted its good news. Most people can't even do that smh

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

The rich just got some extra steak and shrimp at the table, and the decided to throw some crumbs at the poor and working class. And so many of the working class don't even realize they've been had.
Then again, low-information voters are the reason why we got Trump in the White House in the first place.

  • Noirluv45

No, because in the long run, it's NOT good news.

  • Scromes1212

Just like Obamacare! You see what you want to see.

  • Noirluv45

I was JUST thinking about past readers like Ms. Sugar Walls and others from way back when. You really think the comments are Sandy's. Why?

  • University

    Yes!

My friend said that some blog owners are even behind fake accounts as well. And that's crazy.

It is what it is. I just try my best to avoid the nonsense.

  • Noirluv45

I agree. People see what they want to see.

  • Foodforthesoul

    Cause they announced those 4th
quarter layoffs on Dec 12.They promised 80k layoffs to happen in the next 5yrs.

  • Noirluv45

They don't see it, Mr! I cannot believe people are falling for this. Welp, you summed it up in that last paragraph.

  • Dystaney Kimble

    Seriously ! What a rip off .

  • Phillybruh

Its really no surprise that all these companies are in various stages of trying to merge or purchase other companies.

  • Blue

    Exactly.

  • University

    I just spotted a few.

  • Simone

When White Democrats used to own slaves, they told them how to worship, think and speak. Black people who were informed and free-thinkers, like me, were considered "uppity" and shamed, intimidated, and punished (like you're trying to do to me now). The Democrat Party is still telling you Black Democrats how to think and vote. Your masters have taught you well, so you go put on them shackles.

  • Mrs. S. Kidd

Chilllle, if you don't sit yo ass down somewhere lol Some of us don't get bonuses at all but here you are complaining about a $1,500 Thanksgiving bonus that was taxed. And now y'all are getting *another* $1K bonus for Christmas. Sounds like a good deal to me.

  • Readytochokemothernatureout

I do I'm about switch to Crime Warner. A cheaper crook but nonetheless crooks.

  • Phillybruh

Setting the system up for them in payroll now. Its really equal to a pizza or gas every pay. Some will see as much as 20 bucks per pay some as low as 5 bucks per pay but it won't make a difference because the healthcare cost will eat it.

  • Ms.Vanilla

I can just tell... but when the avatar can't be clicked it's a dead giveaway. Other times the font is Sandra to a T.... Like OP2 is Sandra, and Atlanta Piedpiper is Sandy too. There are others that I can't think of right now. Sandra is cool but I just can't stand the shade against the black community anymore. Why continue to support a blog that tears your community down? My days are numbered girlfriend.

  • Enoughsaid2020

AT&T just laid-off people. Enjoy it, while you can. In three years, your taxes will be even higher, once these expire.

  • Ryan

Nothing would surprise me but now that you mention it several posts do seem to be similar in language style.

  • Mrs. S. Kidd

Tomorrow's not promised. Some of us might not be here in 3 years so yes, I'm about to enjoy *today*

  • Phillybruh

I don't think she was complaining, I think she was explaining that the Bonuses was nothing new and had been given before the tax plan and likely would have been given even if it didn't pass. And if you read it said they got 1500 last year around thanksgiving not this year.

  • Foodforthesoul

I’m not complaining about it at all. All I said is it’s taxed at 40%. It wasn’t a thanksgiving one it was a yearly they just gave it during thanksgiving last year. Is it a deal yea but like I said that came from our union requesting a pay raise and if they didn’t give we were going on strike in jan. If they didn’t give me a bonus I wouldn’t die but also the company doesn’t offer us a lot of things that employees don’t speak on.

  • Nikki O

    I fawking hate Direct tv!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Mrs. S. Kidd

Fact of the matter is, plenty of jobs do not give bonuses. She better count her blessings or go find a job that's giving better bonuses. Ain't nobody got time for complainers.

  • Foodforthesoul

Thanks. That’s exactly what I said. Also I’m calling attention to a lot of ppl got laid off this year with Att. Yeah I got a bonus but I’ve also seen many departments close and it’s heartbreaking. Ppl don’t realize that.

  • Phillybruh

Fact of the matter is that wasn't her point. It isn't her fault your job don't give bonuses.

  • Foodforthesoul

Not complaining. I’m appreciative of any bonus I get but it was give us a bonus or up our pay. Since you don’t get a paid raise between year 2-10.

  • Mrs. S. Kidd

I might not be getting bonuses but I am also not online complaining about my job or salary. Again, she can always find another job that pays better and she won't have to worry about taxed bonuses. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/11df0bf522c2896f4ca5111195bf764771aeda10432c4bd78b8352116adc2d5e.gif

  • Phillybruh

I don't think she was complaining about either just clearing up something's about her companies intent behind putting this bonus information out now. When they have been getting bonuses for years and are actually laying people off.

  • We Can Do This

All these so-called bonuses and raises are compensations that are way past due!

Just another smoke and mirror trick!

  • Mrs. S. Kidd

I understand that there are other factors at play besides the annual bonus but again, online is not where you will receive sympathy.

  • Mrs. S. Kidd

This is one company and she doesn't speak for all 200K employees. That may be their intent and it may not be. We won't ever really know. But I see y'all are about to drag this out so I'm out.

  • hottlanta

Crime Warner love it. I saw their ad for $19.00 a month for a year. I been telling all my friends to read their bill.

  • Phillybruh

It is their intent....its no surprise ATT wants to merge with another company that's all that this is about.

  • Foodforthesoul

Thank you. Think they are missing the point you announce a bonus but it was pay raise, and also laid off folks last week and got more coming in the new year. They can keep my bonus and send back the ppl the laid off cause the more actual Att employees we lose the more issues customers have. Cause my bonus will be donated to the ppl I know who lost their job as of Dec 31 and aren’t getting their pay out till February

  • Ozad

it still amazes me how 90 percent of the( usually white) people that vote republican barely make over 60,000 but continue to vote against their economic interest to enrich Trump, Congress members and these corporations, because of their perceived and racist (exploited by FOX news) thoughts that Blacks and Latinos are doing better than them

  • Readytochokemothernatureout

Yes the price changes all the time.

  • Readytochokemothernatureout

    Me too

  • hottlanta

This sounds like we have seen this played out before. Remember that fake Carrier victory lap months ago. They got a great tax break to keep jobs here. CEO got the tax break money/employees got no wage increase/ they got laid off and jobs went to Mexico anyway. It is the same game over and over again

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

It's sad that you don't understand that consumers drive the economies not corporations.

  • Foodforthesoul

Thank you Att announced 80k layoffs in the next 5yrs in Jan 2017. Say hello all Customer service being done through 3rd parties. I work for them they have more lay offs coming March 2018 and already had ppl in our office speaking about “what other departments do you think you will be successful in” when no one has been promoted in the office in over 4yrs

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

    Wrong.

The IRS has to set up the tables and transfer them to companies.

The IRS may have to print up new W-4 forms because the withholding are completely different.

  • Foodforthesoul

Don’t speak for all employees. Don’t think my job is bad. Just saying with the layoffs the announcement of this bonus like it wasn’t part of our union contract is pretty shady.

You're the typical short-sighted right winger.

As I mentioned before once inflation begins to increase as well as health care premiums those puny tax cuts people with get in their paychecks will evaporate.

  • Phillybruh

So lemme guess your going to benefit from the pass through amendment in this tax plan?

  • Phillybruh

I mean and they did it to themselves by being greedy and repealing the mandate.

  • klwbaby

Thank u for sharing this..too bad some people are quick to read without actually comprehending what u wrote.

  • Foodforthesoul

Yup taxed at 40%. And it takes the taxes from your next two paycheck.

  • Ryan

    All dem!!

  • Foodforthesoul

No problem. Not trying to argue with ppl. Trying to simply inform them
these bonuses are written in the union contract based on how much the company stock grows. Stock grows certain amount either pay us out some of what you gained or up our pay. These contacts were written back in 2015 and company approved them this month. All while you lay off 80k ppl.

  • Swwwaayybabbby

Girl you tried to educated some folks who weren’t ready for it. Big layoffs and acquisition happening for AT&T. I assume you handle wireline because you spoke on the vendor situation. Thank you for caring about us laid off folks. Got laid off back in sept out of the Southwest region. I hear southeast region is getting laid off in the new year.

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

Obamacare was an incremental step toward single payer but after the Republican sabotage of Obamacare single payer will gain popularity.

  • JaxDiva

I work for Att and I have been for 19 years. I am being surplused (laid off) as of December 29th... Happy holidays to me ?

  • Foodforthesoul.

My heart hurts for you. I’m in the southeast. I’m sure my office will be surplused soon. They’ve already been coming asking what other departments we would want to go when the closes office is 2/3hrs away. So I’m preparing. Are you in need of anything?

  • hottlanta

It is because there is a better road ahead for 2018. People like you are looking at the news reports and saying a lot of this is fake news. That is what they are telling yall up front to make things look pretty for Dump for a PR move. But the ones that work behind the scenes like you know the real deal. One of my daughter friend works at AT&T for over 20 years. Had to go overseas and train someone for her job and was told when she got back if she didn't take the buyout she would lose everything.

Thank you. If you know someone who really works for Att you know this is a stunt. I saw this coming mid 2015 I started getting my ducks in a row. Saved every dime I could paid off all debt. I be dammed if I keep saying they wouldn’t lay me off. I know they are. Question is when.

  • klwbaby

Sorry to hear that....bigger and better things are in your future. Take care?

  • hottlanta

I know it pisses yall off that that higher ups at ATT have fallen into this parade route for the President to make him look good for a trophy while yall catching all the hell on the back end. That is like your old man giving this rosy picture to the public that he takes care of home and you. Behind closed doors it is a different story. My motto is man's rejection is God's protection. Because God see's somethin coming down the pipe and getting you out. Get out and ENJOY and live life like it is golden in the next phase of your life.

  • hottlanta

Awwww love your thinking about other people than yourself. That trait is missed. You will go far in life.

  • MookieFly

Who the hell mentioned Democrats? When did "uppity" become a synonym for dumbass?? I'm talking about your worship of the current president. The "I have more failed businesses than successful ones" president. The gobble a bucket or two of KFC president. The grab em by the pucee president. The inciting racial unrest in America president. The unfit president. This not a republican vs democrat issue for me. The issue is that you are sticking up a man who is not fit for American period.

  • NeverSurprised

According to an ATT spokesperson, the $1,000 tax bill bonus is NOT the same as the $1,000 lump sum payment included in the CWA Union agreement. It is a separate, unrelated bonus.

The previous $1,000 covered only 20,000 CWA union employees under their bargaining agreement.
    https://www.att.com/gen/general?pid=22150

The bonus announced yesterday covers 200,000 employees and an ATT spokesman told Reuters' reporter David Shepardson that the bonuses announced Wednesday are "unrelated" to the union agreement publicized last week.

    http://theweek.com/speedreads/744574/att-just-gave-thousands-employees-1000-bonus-celebration-tax-reform

I don’t know if there will be overlap, but if so, I suppose the possibility exists that some employees could get BOTH the $1,000 from the union contract AND the $1,000 from the tax plan bonus.

  • takenaback

It would have been better to give a 1 or 2 dollar raise over time it would add up to more. That litthe $1000 will be taxed to death. Use to piss me off when I got a bonus I preferred more per hour.

  • hottlanta

I worked for a company for a number of years got laid off and keep in contact with those wonderful people till this day. They helped raised my kids, if someone died they were there, it was always a party, wedding or something to go to. When my grandson was born they came to the baby shower and we still ask each other are you in need of anything. We are not used to people going off because you said something they didn't like because they are trying to put you down to elevate their level of importance. It is going to be like a mourning but a rebirth at the same time. I remember a certain board I was on and someone mom had died and yep we were there. The person was in tears. Stay being kind because people take our kindness as weakness. There is strength in silence.

  • hottlanta

I knew it was more than just AT&T bonus. I had forgotten about the lawsuit by DOJ lawsuit last month not to merge with Time Warner. It’s also a very convenient public relations move by AT&T, which is trying to buy Time Warner over the objections of the U.S. Department of Justice to announce the employee $1000.00 bonus. The Justice Department’s antitrust division filed a lawsuit on Nov. 20 to block AT&T’s $85 billion purchase of Time Warner. The federal lawyers argue that the vertical integration of one of the nation’s largest telecommunications firms with one of the nation’s largest media firms would limit competition and “greatly harm American consumers. AT&T CEO Randall Stephenson praised the president for making the $200 million in bonuses for his company’s employees possible. President Donald Trump, in turn, praised AT&T just-announced bonuses and said, “That’s because of what we did. So that’s pretty good. That’s pretty good. ”Trump’s previous statements about AT&T haven’t sounded nearly as friendly, specifically his comments opposing the attempted purchase of Time Warner. “I’ve always felt that that was a deal that’s not good for the country. I think your pricing is going to go up,” the president said after the Justice Department filed suit against the merger. He added, “But I’m not going to get involved. It’s litigation. ”AT&T, which did not
immediately respond to a request for comment, was a major lobbying
force in support of the tax legislation. First Trump was against the merger now we shall see.

  • Gotitbutsmh

A taxable bonus does not equal better wages. What about the rest of the workers, dust, nothing? Scammers (companies) and the crime mob in the WH are thugging out right. Do y'all.

  • Foodforthesoul

Some are getting the union pay raise some are getting the bonuses. But the bonuses have been given around this time of the year. They aren’t giving something they didn’t already give to employees. Last year it was 1500. Year before it was 950. It’s nothing new and has nothing to do with the tax break. Sales were high the past 3yrs for them. They just used it to cover up the layoffs they handed out last Friday that hadn’t been made public yet.

  • Foodforthesoul

I’m single with no kids too Uncle Sam takes and never gives back. I usually put any bonus they give us into my money marketing account. Im donating this bonus to some I know that Att laid off this month.

  • Foodforthesoul

Exactly although Att is big as employees we care for each other
like family. I’ve known those who have lost parents, had miscarriages, had the flu, came to work after domestic dispute with bruises. All because we are afraid to let each other down because you see them as your family. Honestly some of my closest friends have came from the company and I know when I make my exit in February they will still be around. I think most forget we are all fighting some demon and should try to lift each other. Because my point of posting wasn’t that I’m upset or happy about the bonus. I’d give my bonus to give back jobs to ppl who have this company the best years of their life to be laid off and their Jobs being handed to outside company who will do it. I’m still young I can start over some can’t.

  • hottlanta

You are never toooo old to start over. I live my life as to no matter what happens I stay ready. Keep a interview suit/dress in your closet, keep your clothes, hair, body and resume updated because you never know when you will need to go. I keep my mind sharp by READING everything and take additional classes to keep up with technology so when I go on an interview and they ask me am l familiar with any new software packages I can show them as well as say yes. If they don't lay you off it might be so bad you will have to leave. I knew exactly what you were talking about it was not that you was ungrateful but what was being printed wasn't the truth. Me and my friends still hook up and play catch up and it's been over 20 years and it is beautiful. I never set up my office as if it my home. When I leave I put everything in my purse and keep it moving. When things like that happen to me I say God is leading me to something greater and he does. Take what you learn and apply it someone else.

Luckily I was offered a better
opportunity with another company who I feel would be better for mentally. Att gave me a life I didn’t know I could have at a young age. But I sacrificed a lot and it’s a company that wears on you mentally. Being mentally healthy is more important than making money sometimes. I’m beyond thankful. But also know when they offer you one thing like they did it cause they care it’s usually a backhand right after. Example Changed our office hours to 7-3 right before summer then hit our asses with 2hr mandatory overtime which made it the same hours as before lol. Last year bonus came from the company sales being over a 35% gain for the past 5yrs lmao

  • hottlanta

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!! Love it. I had a job that told me I had reached my salary cap and stop giving me raises and gave me a $500.00 bonus for 2 years. We know what that came to after taxes. They did this for 2 years but gave themselves a 18% raise and I was bringing in new clients daily to keep all of us employed. They said they don't know when they are going to give me another raise. I left and haven't look back since. When you start playing with my money it is time to go especially when I know I have given you my all. Don't have time to go around dry bragging about working for a national organization to make myself look good to the public when my check ain't right.2 hours overtime ain't nothing to see on your check. Free labor.

  • Foodforthesoul

That gives me hope. Right that you overtime doesn’t add up to very much. And trust they have us overtime basically all year. I never complain about it I just expect it. My happy ass is there telling my coworkers stop with negativity be glad y’all got a job. Some jobs teach you to appreciate what you bring to the table: I will never forget my trainee told me when I started I know you won’t do this forever cause you have potential same person who got me an interview with a new company. I can walk away with my head held high. Car is paid off student loans paid off I live within my means and have enough savings to last me a couple of years. Some of these folks won’t speak up about how these large corporations are because they can’t afford to leave. I will be skipping on out with or without their buyout plan.

  • hottlanta

My goal is to have myself a new job by 2018 been on several interviews this year so something should drop sooner or later. I hope to be a member of your new job/new life club pretty soon. See how God put that person in place in your old life to help you transcend into your new life. A lot of people ain't gonna leave because they wanna dry job brag to their families friends to try to make other people job jealous. I don't know where people get that from. I don't care where it is I don't have a problem saying bye. One of my friends had almost had a stroke at work because the job stressed her out. It is not worth it. She had be carried out on a stretcher. SOOOOOO Happy for ya. That is what I am talking bout.

Fingers crossed something drops soon for you. I will never understand the dry bragging when most sit around cry about everything. Definitely not worth having a stroke over. I figured that out within the first year I started. I said I refuse to get fat, face breaking out over this place. Y’all can do that but I’m not. You got this I’m sure a job will pop up soon.

  • Mrs. S. Kidd

Although I found your comment funny, unless *you* have a better job for her then yes, she will be on that "yes suh massa suh". Y'all want her to "rage against the machine" but have nothing to offer as an alternative. At least my advice was sound....get a new job.
