Jemele Hill

Outspoken ESPN sports anchor Jemele Hill has been booted from her high-profile gig at ESPN's SportsCenter 'The 6'.

The news comes after the 41-year-old sports anchor was suspended by ESPN in October for badmouthing President Donald Trump and for urging her Twitter.com followers to boycott Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones' sponsors.

After Hill's suspension ended, she informed her viewers that she would be on ESPN2 instead of ESPN.

The rebellious sports anchor continued to badmouth Trump in a series of tweets and in television and radio appearances.

Apparently ESPN has had enough.

On Friday, Hill announced she would be leaving SportsCenter and moving to ESPN's online digital space The Undefeated. The demotion is likely intended to remove Hill from the public eye and replace her with a less controversial anchor.

Hill confirmed the move was her personal choice and it will allow her to express her opinions more freely.

  • Ryan

Actually: "Anchor Jemele Hill is leaving SportsCenter to head to The Undefeated, ESPN's site about the intersection of sports, race and culture."

Now if they'd cut ties with her completely, that'd be something.

  • Scromes1212

Smh now let's see if all them black folks that was capping for her will support her new situation. Wish her the best but she handled this all wrong.

  • sunni_daze

I thought she was going to Undefeated

  • sunni_daze

Thank you for adding facts to this.

  • hottlanta

This just in. Just saw a video of RJ doing a video in a hotel where he appears to be alone and you see a woman in the shower and one in the red robe in the background. Pregnant wife said she is out. Can't turn a whore into a husband.

  • Scromes1212

    Lol!

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

It's basically a demotion, though, just being realistic.

Co-hosting your own show on ESPN TV is way more prestigious for your career than being a blogger on the Undefeated.

  • Shira Harding-James

    What?!

  • You Could Never

I thought that was determined to be a man in the shower?

  • Scromes1212

    Plot twist

  • You Could Never

Wish her the best. She started in written/print as she was a reporter here for the capital city newspaper... The News & Observer. Maybe she will do better with written journalism. And they are allowed to have more of an opinon on things and be more outspoken. Returning to where she started might be a good fit for her right now. I dont like her personally...but she has talent.

  • hottlanta

Did you see when he went pass it his face looks like he said oops. I gotta see it again to make sure it was a man or a woman.

  • You Could Never

I read it was a man. Yesterday on some blog

  • Dowoop

It's like when you know you will get your ass handed to you if you try to fire someone so you hide them in a corner instead.

  • Shira Harding-James

This is probably best for her

  • hottlanta

My favorite person breaks it down. I was like whoa.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G7nuaa5t2c0

  • Noirluv45

Good for you, Jemele. I'm happy for her!

  • Noirluv45

Yes, I know I'm capping for her. Good for her. She handled it her way.

  • Noirluv45

Well, ya know, sometimes you have to do what you have to do to be free. It isn't always about money.

  • You Could Never

I aint never cape for her and no matter what she says bc legally ESPN cant speak on staffing matters...I think this is a demotion. She claims she asked for this. But whatever. I dont think she handling any kind of way til she leaves totally

  • You Could Never

Correct. But hey. She still there taking their shit. She must like it

  • Ryan

I don't know if you watch SC6 but the past year or so there's definitely been a shift in the program, especially adding more offsite clips with different reporters and bringing in more guests who were more likely to argue with them. It'll be interesting to see if they keep Michael on as a solo host since they were getting away from focusing on the hosts anyway.

  • Ghost

FALSE ALARM!!! They're back together! It was the hormones talking....smh

  • JV

I said when she was first suspended she should've gone to FoxSportsOne. Pretty disappointed honestly. Even if she wanted to do web-based, join theatlantic.com or something -- why deal with ESPN?

I think she's still there because they didn't want to buy her out. ESPN has been hemorrhaging talent (although not on-air personnel mostly), they probably gave her a nice cut to stick around but stay out of the spotlight.

  • TMW

I knew it would only be a matter of time before they removed her from the show. Hopefully a decrease in pay didn’t come with this demotion.

  • JV

I think it WAS about the money and that's the only reason she's still there. Rival sports media would've snatched her up quickly.

  • MISSMEWITDATBULL

"I dont like her personally...but she has talent."

AGREED. Her struggle braids & her mouth have always irked my soul (I'm petty and DGAF); but, I respect her for standing her ground on her terms, I guess...

  • Scromes1212

That's the crazy part smh you tell us to boycott a business because of the way the players were treated for speaking out, then you speak out and get treated bad by the business you work for but you stay? So ESPN can demote people for speaking out but the NFL can't? This has to have something to do with her getting the rest of her money.

  • LordeAmbler

she not getting alimony. anullment maybe but not alimony

  • Scromes1212

Free!? She went from working upstairs to working in the basement. How is she free? Same rules apply, it's the same company

  • Wakando Shamar Taylor

she just signed a new contract with them probably the reason they didnt fire her! but trust once its up she is done at espn

  • Wakando Shamar Taylor

she is its espn's blog site no tv

  • Wakando Shamar Taylor

yea when they moved her to sports center ahe signed a huge contract! no way they buy her our! they would rather take her off tv and pay her, but once its up she will be back on another sports station

  • Liban

the 41-year-old sports anchor was suspended by ESPN in October for badmouthing President Donald Trump and for urging her Twitter.com followers to boycott Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones‘ sponsors.

This is the land of the free ladies & gents ?

  • Noirluv45

She made a choice, did she not? Maybe it gives her more freedom to speak her mind. That's freedom.

  • Noirluv45

Could be. I don't know. I hope she's happier. She may not make the same money, but maybe she feels freer to speak her mind.

  • NeverSurprised

Absolutely. Everyone working in print and radio wants tv exposure -- tv is still the holy grail of media. Had they given her the blog IN ADDITION TO the tv gig, I might believe it was her decision. Otherwise, no way.

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

    wonk wonk

  • NeverSurprised

No way they are paying her the same for blogging as for an on-air anchor spot unless they are contractually bound to do so.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

I agree. If they fired her there would probably be some kind of backlash... but since she still has time on her contract, they can give her something else to do in the meantime, then when her contract is up they can just choose to not renew it.

  • JV

She's about to be paid TV money to write a few paragraphs and a podcast, lol

  • hottlanta

I thought she was serious about leaving. Men know who to marry.

  • hottlanta

    Yet Dump bad mouths everyone.

  • SweetTEE

She literally said she hadnt seen him in a darn week..then boom, they back together.

  • SweetTEE

She literally said she hadnt seen him in a darn week..then boom, they back together.

  • hottlanta

Shouldn't Ciara be sending her a message since she was giving us single gals a sermon from white skinny jeans wearing 400lb sponge bob on how to be a wife.

  • VM

I felt like this was coming after watching the show earlier in the week. Something was off, the interaction with one another seemed to me like it was forced.

  • SweetTEE

Lol...Idk. Maybe, Ray J seems like the same kind of scum as Future. Only difference is his fish dont swim as well. She should try Loooovvvinnggg Heeerrrselllfff.

  • mona

Unfortunately, it wasn’t only a matter of time. No one pays attention to ESPN2.

  • JV

You could've stopped at "ESPN" unless there's a game on

  • JV

The Undefeated is does have more social/political content than ESPN so there's that.

  • hottlanta

She think because she is married to Russell she married a different kind of man not like Future. Future was honest about what he does and she knows it. She thought that she was special. Just like Future goes from woman to woman, Russell goes from wife to wife. Same thing but different game but she thinks the ring gives it some legality and makes it all right. She married someone just like Future.

  • Noirluv45

It sounds like that's her thing.

  • E-VannaRootsAllEvil

I think she needs a stylist *slanks my own hand*

  • Ghost

He uploaded a video with her in the background sleeping..acting like she wasn't on social media crying foul. She just waned him to come home and thats how she got his attention...se's going NOWHERE...smh

  • Alicia.Ashe

Why her neck so thick?!?!. Congrats.

  • JRock

I cannot believe the people on here that actually believe Ray J and his wife really split. It's called let's put out fake news like Dump. It's called "we need a check and story lines for our weak ass show". I don't watch any of that crap and have never seen his show but I'm sure if Ray J is in it than it is weak than his sperm count. Yes, I went there. Never liked that short ass punk.

  • hottlanta

Like I said she thought because they got married she would be the special one. She is just another one.

  • Faux Gibbler

If she can express her "feelings" more freely as she says then it was her choice. I mean.. you have a job talking about sports and bad mouthing POTUS means that much to you? That's called privlege. I couldn't quit my job just to bad mouth someone.

  • Ryan

That's what I was saying, but *shrug* Not like she's gonna be out in the streets and plus she'll be focused on culture. And they been moving away from featuring the hosts as much anyway but apparently I'm the only one who watched the damned show lol

  • EMILY POST

Another black Martyr for those weird Liberal talking points. She killed her own career common theme for the liberal folks they do it often and for what? Donna Brazille, Melissa Harris Perry they get on television and get to tripping politically.

  • Liban

It's the land of the free yet she isn't allowed to criticise him, he's like saddam only saddam gave a fug about his people

  • Diva_woman

Something in the milk aint clean with my girl Jemele. Every since she talked about Trump she's been back peddling and shucking and jiving and that is not like her.

  • hottlanta

Simone from Married to Medicine is actually divorcing her husband. I thought Jackie would divorce her husband but Simone said she is out after 21 years.

  • Dee Moe

Get your facts right. She acts to be off the 6. She no longer wanted to be muted by ESPN.

  • Nia

Sandra doesn’t know what facts are.

  • dontgetblocked

One thing white people know how to do is shut their mouths if it's going to affect their paychecks. She's a dumb one. Nobody cares about a blog. The 6pm spot is where the actions at. Another big mouth black women on the verge of unemployment.

  • shun king

she just took a big financial hit i know she is having some regrets

  • MythCalledLove

As the plumber from Martin said."It's gonna cost you. It may cost a little. It may cost you alot. But its gonna cost you". No disrespect to her but she looks right swole. Middle linebacker..

  • Olga Summer

Thats My thing..... like we couldn’t find a better picture of her?? ??? She looks hella swollen!!

  • Oretta Grace Smith

Good. GOD bless her!!! Some of us just need to be our own boss!!!

  • Oretta Grace Smith

    Probably good living

  • MythCalledLove

She got to strutting. Doing interviews getting Google alerts the whole 9. After the news the legal department & executives were high fiven..doing the played out fist bump explosion. They went from top to bottom to make sure they did everything by the book.

  • MythCalledLove

OK but uhmmm going to the blog? Working with the same executives. Unless she plans on starting own sports website.

  • MythCalledLove

Simone gives me the lesbian vibe. That's why she couldn't work it out with her husband. They living in 2 houses and she seem to be unwilling to put in the work.

  • shun king

her and Monique might have a show together

  • shun king

from tv to a blog that very big big change of pace she is prolly going through some depression right now and best believe she is also black balled

  • Solstice

Oh no!! I was hoping her and Cecil could work it out!! They just renewed their vows last season. I’m saddened to hear this ? Divorce can affect older/adult children too. Unfortunate.

  • dontgetblocked

    They need to.

  • dontgetblocked

It was a nice play. Now she's in the basement and they won't renew her contract.

  • dontgetblocked

She's in the has-been hut with Soledad O'brien, Tamron Hall, and Melissa Perry Harris. Once you lose that top spot it's over, especially after you hit the big 40.

  • Li

OT: Here's a YT video about Monique's bad attitude.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJzpb_Kp-K8

  • Simone

So she can do it online but not on TV...SMH!

  • bella28498 .

yea its best that she leave now

  • hottlanta

After 21 years she is probably just tired. It is a lot we don't know. Living in 2 houses in the same state. That is what I call balling or foolish.

  • hottlanta

If they can't work it out after 21 years it is time to end it. Adult kids should understand as they have had relationships it is best to break up. We must allow our parents to be their own individuals. It is selfish for them to stay together because we want them to. Then when one mate hurts another then what are you gonna do.

  • millz

Yessss divorce affects grown children! I was 19 and I haven't been right since ?? I would have better off if they did as a 12 year old so I could learn to live with them being separated and moving on but me being older is the craziest grasp of reality that I wasn't and still not trying to deal with...in my 30s now... my father and I relationship is very strained and painful... my mother has become my best friend... I don't like my stepmother

  • Wreckognize Game

I call that, tired of him and distancing myself. Just like when Simone purchased that car. That is her money but kinda rebellious to not at least mention to him that she was getting a car. Quad is doing the same. Jackie is private and trying to handle it the best she can. She is feeling him out before she gives in.

On last night's episode, messed me up when Jackie husband pulled Toya right in the middle of his lap. She didn't get up or check him, her man didn't either. Jackie was a G about it. Don't react in public but I'm sure she checked him in the room privately. She is an analyzer and calculating in a good way.

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

She still works for and is being evaluated and paid by ESPN.

  • Vonn

    Good luck Mo.

  • Enoughsaid2020

I saw her on ESPN, and she did not look happy. I knew something was going on. SMH!

  • Chaseboogie The Prince

That's only if they pay Monique over 500,00 bucks. LOL!

  • Julia Lyons

    She look like Kirk Franklin.

  • justlooking

This is wrong. Black women are not allowed to speak out. Then folks say black women are too loud, obnoxious, rude and just angry bitches. Its not right. Black women should not have to assimilate and lay down and continue to take all the bull crap. We are underpaid, undervalued and unequally treated.

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

People can speak out all they want but make sure it doesn't reflect negatively on your employer.

Create a bunch of fake social media accounts if you want to express your opinion especially if those issues intersect with your occupation/employer.

  • Noirluv45

Exactly. We are the ONLY group told to sit down, shut up, and take it. We aren't allowed to be angry or feel pain and when we do, we have to keep quiet about it.

  • Noirluv45

I wonder if they called women like Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, and other Black women who risked everything for their lives and others as "Big mouth Black women?" People hate others who risk life and limb for their truth because they can't comprehend the idea of someone risking a paycheck for what's right. Some aren't afraid to step out in faith and others are. What she did was probably good for her regardless of her paycheck. That's the difference between doers and non-doers. Sometime standing up is risky. Playing it safe can and will keep people weak. I understand we have to live, but I'm not going to demean someone who does what's right for them just because it may not be right for me.

Oh, and BTW, White folks DO open their mouths all the time and risk their paychecks.

  • Noirluv45

These women have moved on to bigger and better things. So many of us live in a box and never move forward.

  • Noirluv45

-Some Black people are so myopic. Good grief. They live for the paycheck and would never think of taking a risk if it meant their happiness. They see demotion as something bad, but can't think past their noses that maybe that person was smart enough to have money tucked away or have other things going. They get mad at people who dare think outside their narrow-minded boxes.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I wouldn't call going from SportsCenter to writing for a blog moving on to "bigger and better things".

  • Noirluv45

Maybe it is for her, Sandra. Who knows what else she has going for herself that we don't know about.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Jemele played herself. She let her huge Twitter following go to her head. Like most undiagnosed narcissists, she flew too close to the sun and her wings got burnt.

Instead of engaging her followers in a healthy debate on politics and the NFL protests, she went there, calling the president a racist and telling people to boycott the sponsors of one of the richest men in the country.

I wonder how that humble pie tastes? ?

  • Noirluv45

Sandra, you could be right, but at the end of the day whatever decision(s) she makes affects her and her only. I don't know Jemele, so I'm not going to assume her wings got burnt. I just know that sometimes when people take risks, they face opposition.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

"I don't know Jemele, so I'm not going to assume her wings got burnt."

She plummeted down to earth quickly, didn't she?

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

We know what she doesn't have going for herself: a coveted anchor spot on SportsCenter at 6 p.m. She tweeted herself out of that gig.

I learned a long time ago to stay off of Twitter, because some people can't tolerate opinionated black women, and I have bills to pay. ?

  • Noirluv45

Maybe she doesn't want that "coveted anchor spot." Sandra, some people don't live for money. Like I indicated on your new post, some people quit jobs they are unhappy with to open their own businesses or to move on to something that will make them happy regardless of the money. Peace of mind is everything.

I understand about paying bills. We have to live, but some people step out in faith and take risks. Again, the only one who has to live with Jemele's decision is Jemele.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

"some people quit jobs they are unhappy with to open their own businesses"

I can relate. I quit my nursing job to pursue blogging. What I didn't do was embarrass my employer or use my position to assert my biased opinions.

  • Oretta Grace Smith

I understand. Maybe she got to fake it until she makes it!!!

  • Solstice

Oh! I am sorry! I cannot imagine, especially the strained relationship with your father. I truly hope that will change for the better. We love our Daddy’s. I don’t even want to think of another heifer being with my Daddy ??

  • Ms.Vanilla

She looks like Faith Jenkins sister to me.

  • Ms.Vanilla

They did the same thing to that disgusting white dude can't think of his name. Now he's on sirius radio.

  • SweetTEE

Hell, if she got a cheater either way, at least she got one that cheat on the low now lol.

  • sunni_daze

    ok.

  • Gracian

My sentiments exactly. You must be savvy in your protest if your not running your own operation. It's not being a coward or afraid to speak out. You're messing with the bottom line of the people you work for and those that work for them as well. Get your own operation then speak out against whatever. You don't own that business. They won't allow you to kill the golden goose.
