Cardi B

Cardi B isn’t interested in being a role model for your daughters. The 25-year-old Bronx rapper posted an Instagram photo of herself posing with adolescent girls. The image is from her cover story for I-D magazine.

In the caption she wrote, “I’m not trying to be this “ROLE MODEL” to these young girls because I’m very rated R and I’m not a perfect person. I wouldn’t want to change for nobody neither…”

The rapper, who is still struggling to drop her second solo hit single, found fame when she was discovered on Instagram and signed to star on Love & Hip-hop: NY.

Cardi B

Cardi, who was born Belcalis Almanzar, was threatened by Crips gang members on Instagram.com after she posted a photo of herself wearing a blue fur coat. In the photo caption, the self-professed Bloods gang member wrote: “I hate flue, but this coat was too poppin’.”

“Flue” — a merging of the words “f-ck” and “blue” — is considered an insult to Crips gang members who drop the letter ‘B’ from their language.

Crips members flooded Cardi’s IG timeline with threats, warning her not to attend the upcoming NBA All-Star game.

Im so sorry! If I knew you were coming…okay dats a LIE.

  • Noirluv45

Unfortunately, she is a role model, like it or not, for many young girls who look up to her. It isn’t her responsibility to raise people’s children, but it would be nice if she were a positive example to them. Hopefully, parents are in their daughter’s ears teaching them what qualities to admire and emulate. Hopefully, they see those qualities in their mothers or other women in their lives.

  • ReadingIsFundamental4Real

She is not their role model, but they are her fans. It’s up to parents to deal with that, not her. I saw two young hot in the ass mixed girls…maybe 13 or so at Universal with crop tops on .. white mom but looked like the daddy was black. Mom looked too high to give a damn and these girls were in line in front of little children… between 4-6 and was rapping CardiB.. The parents were trying to distract them with phones. My 12 year old rolled her eyes and was like… get a life. Mind you I let my child dye her hair blue and she wears all black and grey so people make their own assumptions about her. She isn’t a Cardi B fan. And I’m sure those girls looked at my daughter like she was a devil worshiper or something. I’m just glad my child keeps her mouth closed at the right times in public. How ignorant those girls sounded; I cringed.

LOL!!! And I’m mad Tristian and JR are still there. Just when I was getting excited.

  • You Could Never

Parents can do what they want. Me and my sisters were not censored. So as a result I was listening to some folks who were not role models. I in turn never bothered to censor the music of my own girls. They listen to who they want. Cardi is on the list of the 13 year old and I am fine with that. She is bright, well rounded, gives back to her community and a straight A student. Nobody died at my house in 1990 due to music choice and nobody is dying in 2018 at my house because of it either.

  • JRock

Thank goodness you dumb ignant bish. That’s the best thing you can do is to stay away from impressionable young girls and breathing the air from your head into their lungs. They have enough shit to deal with growing up as it is. Bullying, pressures of gender and lifestyle choices, trying to keep up with the fashion Joneses, lack of economics in their family’s finances where some may not get enough to eat and haven’t had new shoes in 2 years.

  • Tonika

Then she shouldn’t be posing with them. Why did the parents allow this? She’s right, she’s not a role model, and those girls shouldn’t be listening to her music.

  • You Could Never

    Hehehe

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

Rihanna & Beyonce & many more said the same thing.

No chit you’re not our daughters role model, you think you have to tell us that? I can’t stand this rat. Dumber than a box of rocks.

  • Pitty Patty

Meanwhile the same parents that have an issue with Cardi let their daughters watch the Kardashians every Sunday. Probably ordering a Kylie lip kit right now.

I don’t have an issue with Cardi. I do have an issue with my 15 year old step daughter looking up to Kylie. She’s 19 years old with a baby by a rapper who ain’t wont even be in her life next year. I’m not knocking mothers who got pregnant young, but that shyt is nothing to be celebrated. Folks acting like cause she got money, its ok. She is a teenager with a baby. If her name was Keisha working at McDonalds, she would be dragged. Black folks are so fickle.

  • i troll it like i see it

When the Make a Wish foundation was complaining that she didn’t stop and say hi and pose with the kids I was wondering “what the fck do you want that hoe around the kids for?!” You should be glad she and her ghetto rat sister kept walking! Please!

  • Trey

You wont be saying this in 10 years…..

  • You Could Never

Yes I will be. I have a 23 year old. I said it 10 years ago when she was 13. So I dont see any difference in 10 years from now.

Why censor music? We think they censor it at school? We think they over at their friends house and are like ohhh girl turn that off…its the uncut version…oh my PRECIOUS ears?

    Get real.

  • hottlanta

She is right she is not your child’s parent. If you child is well rounded they know that like all the rest of them with Cardi “this too shall pass”, next.

  • You Could Never

I SAID THIS. It pisses me OFF. They get to be a young mom. Our asses get to be unwed teen/young mom statistic who aint gonna be shit and our kids not gonna be shit either. Burns me up.

  • Whiplash(lacejagger)

    You sure damn are not!

  • hottlanta

Kylie show is already years late when they have a show with white girls titled 16 and Pregnant and they are stars. A show about someone being young/single/pregnant is no worst than a show with MARRIED grown degreed women doctors exhibiting the same rachet behavior and grown women look up to them. Nene made her money off rachet behavior and now we see Cardi we wanna tell our kids not to act like that. But we got a kick outta Porsha/Kenya fight taking sides. Grown folks are so fickle.

  • kkjinx

Speak it….hell i had my son at 23 and THOUGHT that i was ready and done with partying and school…I will tell any young lady i encounter that in your 20’s you should be selfish and enjoy it because it is a time that you learn about yourself. Your likes, dislikes, standards, etc. Don’t allow these young boys to knock you up and still carry on with their lives while you have to sit at home on weekends and be judged by society. Oh Lord please don’t get me started. You better believe I learned my lesson the 1st time around and i will tell any man who finds interest in me that the shop is CLOSED! And if Ms. Cardi was smart she’d protect herself with Offset fertile a$$. You have a lovely opportunity please don’t mess it up for some sperm donor. I wanna see her WIN!

  • Rayne

So she’s In a gang? Ump ump ump ion listen to her no way.

  • Trey

It starts at the house….sounds like you more friend than parent to your kid….

  • cherrypie

Cardi seems cool and her music is okay but bish you 25 and you still promoting gang shyt???? No, she should not be anyone’s role model especially impressionable young girls but sadly… she is.

  • cherrypie

    Yes. That part! ^^^^^^^^

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

I AGREE!!!! Being a black woman and not having any kids of my own I do not want to be any other persons role model. That is alot of weight to take on when you are not perfect. I love pouring into young people and blessing them with things for school or work and though people tell me I am classy it is still pressuring.

  • JRock

Hello. Talk to me quick! Why would you want someone who is a self-proclaimed hoe around your kids. I heard this chick speak out of her own mouth telling people she is a big hoe. No surprise there.

  • puppylove

Umm Khloe WISH she was as bad as the 9th wonder. RIP Joanie.

  • Ni Ni

I heard they beefing up security to keep her safe. Ain’t no way i would spend all that money trying to keep her ignorant azz safe. She keep on running her mouth. How hard is it to find a new latina from a strip club to replace her?

  • hottlanta

I guess TD Jakes daughter Sarah is a role model. Had a child at 14. Got married another child. Got divorced/married again had another child. She got 3 different kids by 3 different men. Oh I forgot about the 2 husbands when she had mom/dad as role model being married for a long time.

  • puppylove

You wrong about that. And you may want to tread lightly.

  • Ni Ni

Whattttf??? Shes sounds flawed, like we all are, but I’m glad she’s not glorifying her past.

  • puppylove

I am sure back in the 80’s there were no under 18 Material Girls.

  • morenYAHdelsur

LOL she’s most definitely not a role model for girls. She’s still a damn girl herself, not even understanding the magic behind her own womanhood. I like her though. Anyway…I’m more concerned about this gang chit. That’s lame af!

These words should be on a plaque any where young girls frequent!!!

  • ?Royalty?

I didn’t know Bey made a similar comment.

  • CaliGONECRAZY

Wait a minute. If she says she isn’t a role model to young girls, then why is she taking a picture with these young girls? It doesn’t make any sense to me!

  • Wreckognize Game

I was a teenage mom and my 3 children are grown, not living in my house and successful. My youngest is 28 and about to have her first child my first grandchild. • Ni Ni

Same thing i said. Look at her caption, she even sends them a message.

  • Ni Ni

I was on her page earlier trying to find that gang post, but there was a little girl who left her a comment that she was the best role model ever or something like that. The girl looks to be 10 or younger. The next post includes this message about not being a role model.

Well at least she know, she ain’t worthy of that title. No sane person sees her as a role model!

  • hottlanta

People always say we are a product of what we are taught AT HOME. If you see mom/dad in a stable/marriage home you will be in one as well. Who taught her to have kids with everyman she meets. We are ALL flawed but we have a habit of judging people where they come from is not the path they are going. I cringed when I heard grown women taking sides over the Porsha/Kenya fight.

Cardi B’s success is colorism at its finest.

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

Yet she taking pictures surrounded by young black girls. She isn’t even black. These music execs know who to target- the young black generation.

Keep them sleep. Keep them retarded. Keep them poisoned

  • JRock

My absolutely favorite scene from that movie. Especially when she starts fluttering her arms going in circles singing “I don’t care”. For real. One day years ago my son had done something to upset me so he tried to slide in all nice and apologetic. I threw my hands in the air like I just didn’t care and starting going all Judy Garland on him rotating in circles singing I don’t care. The look on his face was pure hilarity like mom what are you doing LOL.

    Iktr!!!!

  • the guest

    She’s not black?

Two girls in the photo look far whiter than Cardi B but they’re black girls and she’s not? Cardi B is a black bronx dominican.

Dominicans are african blacks that speak an afro-caribbean dialect of spanish and they are indigenous to the same island and no less black than their african black haitian brethren.

Don’t give delusional self/black hating dominicans satisfaction by saying Cardi B is not black.

  • TMW

Are strippers considered sane? Asking for a friend.

  • the guest

    Exactly.

  • ?Sugar&Spice?

Sad to say, you are. It’s not really a choice of yours; you’re popular, so they follow your role.
Hopefully, their parents play a stronger ‘role’ in their lives, because parents should be role models too.

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

Oh really? IS that why she called dark skinned females roaches?

Plus growing up in a Hispanic household doesn’t qualify her as being black. I’m from NY- she is not black. Everyone who lives in NY swear they are black even Susan from Westchester (shoutout!). I guess because they equate blackness with ghetto ness.

She is just a Hispanic hood booger using black appropriation like so many other non-black celebrities/artists.

  • Blaque Mahogany

I was just talking about role models this morning.

This is some disingenuous bs. Celebrity capital is heavily tied to and influenced by youth aspiration and admiration. Anyone with any experience in marketing will tell you, once you get the kids, you get the money/parents. The bulk of some of the stars fan base is mainly comprised of children. Hell, even the adult fans want to be or be like these celebrities. That is why these celebrities are ALWAYS interacting with or involving children in their PR campaigns. The reality is that you don’t want to be held accountable for your actions. You want to be able to say, “I’m an adult I can do what I want”, when you are acting and azz and doing stupid shyt.

Every job comes with pros and cons. That’s like a fireman saying I like sliding down the pole in the firehouse, but I don’t like putting out fires. Part of being a celebrity, particularly when you are a music artists and your target demogrpahic is teens, is being a role model. Period.

  • Blaque Mahogany

Also, a lot of people congratulate her for remaining who she is, and if she admits to NEVER wanting to change. What kind of f.ck shit is that? Everyone should want to continue to evolve and get better. That’s part of being successful. The child can’t read, write, talk, etc. but she doesn’t want to change. And these are just areas of improvement that are immediately visible to anyone with eyes. If the people around you want you to “stay who you are”, you need to change your circle. Period.

Literally the dumbest most basic mess I have ever heard.

  • the guest

Sad thing is, she is a role model.

Society gives young economically disadvantaged black girls more access to gangs and stripping than access to quality public school education and college preparation.

Because of racism holding down economically disadvantaged black girls, Cardi is a model of how a lot of poor black girls these days are choosing to get out of poverty.

It’s sad that so many young girls are giving up on education these days because “IG modeling” is putting food on the table.

  • Enoughsaid2020

Your roles models should be your parents, relative’s, or someone positive in your envronment.

  • the guest

Cardi B is self hating colorist negro then. Don’t give her the satisfaction of calling her not black. She didn’t grow up in a merely hispanic (spanish speaking) household. She grew up in an afro caribbean afro latino black dominican bronx household.

She’s not european. She’s doesn’t speak european spanish. Cardi B is black and not intelligent enough to appropriate, she’s just being who she is a black bronx dominican.

She’s being exploited by the colorist music industry who don’t want dark skinned black females to shine. Now, that’s a whole other thread…

  • the guest

    Brilliantly stated.

  • Malcom Flex

    She’s NOT black so…IDGAF

  • hottlanta

That is a lie and you know it. As we get older we have choices. TJ Jakes daughter had every advantage in the world afforded to her and I bet she never went to no ones public school while living in their estate and still became a teenage mom. There are so many girls that didn’t have her financial/home life advantage that didn’t become a teenage mom that has gone to PUBLIC school and doing the dayum thang. As a parent it was MY JOB to make sure my kids get exposed to theater, travel, manners, etc. If kids from the other side of the tracks turned out okay my favorite ID Channel Behind Mansion Walls will not be a hit on television.

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

Point taken and thank you. But I still feel that black youth aren’t being exploited.

  • hottlanta

Miley was afforded the luxury to change. Love me some Grace Jones because she is who she is. Can you picture her at home with pearls baking cookies. Grace will jazz it up wearing a onesie and pearls. Tina is my other idol. These women did things their way when other women complained they need to change or go somewhere and their sit azzes down. Those women that complained about them are in nursing home with an oxygen tank while they are still kicking it. I went to a Rick James concert where he threw weed to the audience and Prince took off his clothes. Did I smoke a joint, no but I did inhale. I might have gotten older but I will not be a prude and act as if all I did was went to church and read the Bible from beginning to end.

Exactly…..it’s very disingenuous of anyone who says to a child “do as I say, not what I do”. They will always do as you do because actions speak louder than words. Also, she shouldn’t surround herself with people (children) she doesn’t plan on being better for.

yea Well drug dealers are loved too and looked up to in the hood just the same because they give back to their communities …but they damn sure aren’t taking pictures with the folks they give back to…because at the end of the day they truly don’t give af they do it for a “noble cause of respect” ?…..something like this bs here!! • Quitedeliteful

This gang-banging is just too much!! These dangerous and violent simpletons need to get a hobby or something!!! The girls says some dumb made up word like ‘flue’ and negroes wanna threaten her life?!?!? Damn!!!

  • Cici

Well she’s definitely DOMINICAN. Or is that a lie too? Asking for myself?

  • J2PC

Um, it’s not dumb when you understand that they are speaking in gang codes (but authorities & others caught on to their coding fast). Flue would mean eff’n blue. ‘Lue’ is part of blue and the F is the cuss word.

You’ll be surprise we what you think are now made up words are actually code words made up by gangs and those those affiliated to that genre of music. -she is not shy about which one she belongs to (since her teen years). That’s just life in the urban NY boroughs.

  • J2PC

Endorse? lol Then, her gang would feel betrayed & punish her. It seems to be never-ending chaos when they are all human beings and related in some way. But, emotions have with a history of grudges continue to allow most of them to be controlled like puppets via a man-made [divide-and-conquer] technique to control Blacks and different ethnic groups by pitting them against each other.

Once you tap into the mind, fill heads with lies, etc., it is easier to destabilize the strength & unity among any group, especially the most feared ethnic groups (who will never realize their true history filled with greatness and warriors of historic Kingdoms omitted from school books).

  • J2PC

It’s all good, as long as the protective kids are not visiting alone or having sleepovers with other kids who will introduce them to those videos.

  • J2PC

Lazy & lousy parenting make children thirsty and weak-minded souls reaching outside their doors for somebody else to lead them and show them the way. -whether it be the entertainment industry or the streets (gangs; questionable neighbors, the TV, music video or social media).

Family members and positive community leaders are supposed to be role-models and hero of any child. -not the streets. The parents are losers if they think or need outside folks to cape for their child.

  • Quitedeliteful

Yea I read about the word Flue but is it really worth dying or getting shot over??? She can’t really be about that Blood life because she turned off her comments when she started getting threatened and warned not to come to Cali. I guess I’m surprised that she is still hanging on to that ignorant dangerous and violent stuff when she’s now making money and has a life folks could only dream about. That old saying still hold true — you can take a horse to water… well, you know the rest…

  • Reina1718

THANK GOD. I’ve am and has always been my daughter’s role model.

  • Cannelle

I agree with you @ not black.

Maybe I should rephrase: she is black in the American sense, but no where else.

Whatever color, she is a damn disgrace.

  • J2PC

Once you’re in it…it is usually for life, folks say. She was most likely advised to shut it down to regain control. -why allow the media, police & others following her site to really extend this to a bigger east coast vs west coast issue and make connections where everybody is sued & goes to jails??

Um, she has lawyers, PR, etc. looking out what works best for her and them to keep the $$$ coming in.

  • Quitedeliteful

Very true… this doesn’t need to blow up into something crazy and for sure her record label is not going to let her get sidetracked…

  • the guest

    Amen.

  • the guest

And they take it very very seriously. Very. They’re in a world onto themselves except when their crimes affect those outside their world.

  • the guest

She didn’t turn off her comments.

Her label and public relations team more likely ordered her comments turned off.

She’s a corporate star and commodity now. She means money to major corporate entities and they will control and protect their product for their own interests.

My concern is that she’e engaged and wants to marry and have children who will be born into gang life because their mother is an affiliated gang member and still has the mindset of a gang girl.

  • the guest

Didn’t see your comment, but thought along the same lines as you. Cardi is a money machine and her corporate handlers are not letting gang mess distract from their product.

  • the guest

She’s not a former gang member. She IS a gang member.

  • the guest

    Exactly.

She’s a street girl role model who literally went from nothing to stripper to reality tv to rap stardom. To hood girls and to a lot of struggling or paycheck to paycheck everyday women, Cardi is the american dream.

  • the guest

    YES!

  • Malcom Flex

Not black. I don’t claim others and non blacks as black.

  • Goodii2Shoes

Because somebody’s daughter HAS to grow up to be the stripper/prostitute uneducated entertainer to be taken advantage of

  • Goodii2Shoes

    Lovely iDea :D

  • Goodii2Shoes

Lol “cardi gonn get her phuvked up yet” lol, ,,,

  • sceutie

You’re right. She’s not black, but she is trash.

  • MythCalledLove

Well she is. All these girls idolize her.

  • MythCalledLove

They will use her up.Let her spend spend spend then she will wonder where the money went and they will slide the bill across the table and say “Here is a list of your expenses. Then the I.R.S. will say “Nice to finally meet you.”

  • MythCalledLove

When and where did she earn her colors. Because they would have her back and protect her everywhere she goes. They are looking around like Who gave her the colors? *crickets*

  • Quitedeliteful

I’m sure her label is going to try to keep this bullshyt to an absolute minimum but you would think she would want to do this on her own. She has opportunities that folks would sell their own mother to have…

  • Enoughsaid2020

    That it is.

  • Jussjess25

    You consider her other? Why

  • Brook York

That photo is sooo sad and depressing.

  • SDot

    LOVE HER! REAL PIC
