Oxycontin

A major opioid manufacturer vows to stop marketing the drugs that are at the forefront a nationwide opioid addiction crisis. Purdue Pharma will no longer market opioids, including Oxycontin, to doctors and their patients.

Purdue was recently served with lawsuits linking the drug maker to the ongoing opioid crisis.

Lawmakers praised the drug manufacturer for its decision.

“The genie is out of the bottle. Millions of Americans are opioid addicted,” Dr. Andrew Kolodny, the director of opioid policy research at Brandeis University, told the NY Daily News on Monday.

“We need other drug companies, other top manufacturers to do the same thing.”

Purdue cut its sales staff by half, the other remaining 200 staffers will focus on sales of non-opioid drugs to doctors and hospitals.

“This recognition by Purdue is a step in the right direction, however, it only represents a small fraction of the problem,” O’Grady said. “The focus still seems to be trying to stop this epidemic by increasing legal consequences, rather than treating it as an illness.”

Opioid addiction is the driving force behind the nation’s epidemic of WHITE drug overdose deaths.
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
Fixed that. We are dying of overdose but not from opiods. We need to stop making this our issue. Focus on what impacts us.

  • thrift.store.jungle

when white folks start dying we call a surge in drug related deaths an epidemic. black people have had to deal with the government pumping drugs into our communities for generations (while being criminalized).

good to know america continues to swiftly come to aid its favorite (pale) child.

  • Noirluv45

Save White America at all costs.

  • Pitty Patty

I don’t give one shyt about white folks dying over opiods. I care as much as white people did when were dying and getting locked up for 20 years over one rock.

They can all die as far as I’m concerned. Less white folks I have to deal with.

  • NY_Chick

    this won’t fix addiction.

  • JRock

This is suspect. When have rich white men otherwise known as the pharmaceutical company want to cut into their cash cow that they spend on new cars, new airplanes, island retreats, yachts, etc. to save even one life from Opioid addiction? Tell the truth Ruth!

  • Rachel

All this does is push the street rate up. If the junkies can’t get this what do these lawmakers think is and easy available to get? Meth and crack. It’s all Reagan’s fault.

  • justlooking

they did this with Promethazine, they changed the formula. It’s the most disgusting medicine I’ve ever had. I have bottles of it.

But that Oxy….owweee After all my surgeries I’ve been given it, but I never finish. I hate feeling out of sorts.

  • Ms.Vanilla

I agree with you something sounds fishy. Maybe one of the CEO kids are hooked on it.

  • Sid

Um who’s addicted to these Opiods? Mayo heads? Case closed. I’m not surprised there isn’t a “war on drugs” as a solution to this.

  • Pitty Patty

You could go to Houston and make some real money off those bottles. You sitting on gold….

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

This is good .. Stop creating that shyt … and let us grow our weed herbs and vegetables on our own.. . make our own medicine … ? A lot of folks like their pills … way more than some weed before ya go there … folks taking shyt just to sleep … this is good

  • Ms.Vanilla

They kinda did the same thing with Sudafed. (pseudoephedrine). It’s behind the counter now due to the meth heads. But they haven’t done anything to stop the cooking of crack that’s killing the black community. How about putting baking soda behind the counter assholes…..

  • Kayke

This only makes the street prices higher. They don’t need to “focus” on sales because the work has been done. It’s now residual income because they sell themselves.

  • justlooking

    I’ve been told.

  • justlooking

Say this…People are taking shit JUST to sleep.

  • Pitty Patty

Legalizing weed would help all of this…but then how would they fill up their private prisons. Heroin will be legal before weed will. They already have a clinic in San Fran thats set up as “safe” place were folks can come inject.

God knows they can’t lock up Timothy and Becky. They need help. (eye roll) Keisha and Ray Ray need jail.

  • xenaD

My thing is why keep prescribing it?! I think one of my family members is addicted to it .. keep talking bout her medicine and her back… your back what, bish? Workout.. move around… ain’t nun wrong with her she’s hooked lol

  • klwbaby

This makes about how sense as when they thought Prohibition would stop people from buying alcohol.

hmmm… they gonna stop marketing, but I don’t see anything about them vowing to stop manufacturing.

How about physicians quit prescribing opioids to people that don’t need it. Hospitals are already experiencing some shortages of drugs. This is counter intuitive. It’s like saying let’s do vasectomies on all men, we have too many children in the world.

  • Pitty Patty

If they could do it to black men they would. Trust.

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1lo6u-UIbo Nancy Drew-Natural & Luv’n It!

say this hun. all the sh*^ that’s BEEN killing us, they ain’t NEVA ran to the lab to mix up a come-byke-from-da-dead elixir. but now they can get narcan WITHOUT a prescription, just in case they fugg up and manage to Almost die. wtf?!

  • DaughterOfaQueen

Lol…how you know you need baking soda ??

  • White privilege

Amazing the measures they will take when white people are addicted. Keep throwing their opioid addicted arses in jail like they do everybody else. Those opiods are really addictive though.

  • hottlanta

Wayminute. Dump said that we have a drug problem because of the Mexicans and we need a wall to keep them from bringing drugs over here. What has Kushner done to stop this crisis. Haven’t heard a peep outta him. Drawing a check with no security clearance and doing nothing.

Ah, hahaha, chile in my job I’ve heard it all….

  • dontgetblocked

What’s messed up is you can hardly get a handful of drugs when you have surgery. I stayed racked with pain after my last few surgeries and they told my behind to take Tylenol, aspirin, ibuprofen…anything other than a real pain killer. I still don’t know how these people get opioids from doctors. My doctors cut me off real quick. To be honest, I get better meds after a little dental surgery than having my body sliced open.

  • Ms.Vanilla

    They already do. Prison.

  • dontgetblocked

One of us had to say it. Just got through watching the classic movie Mandingo. And whitey showed their azzez at work lately. Sorry…I just don’t care about their problems. I just don’t care.

  • Omandesert

White people abused opiods. Im not going
to suffer because white america found a new way to get high. Not my problem, nor then millions of Americans that took the drug responsibly. When I go to the hospital, I demand what I want and need because I’m paying them top dollar. Fuck the dumb shit.

  • White privilege

They don’t offer pain medicine to black people. That’s a known fact. But after a surgery, my black arse would have demanded some. Opiods are really addictive. There are some doctors who don’t like to prescribe them, but you definitely needed some after a surgery.

  • nick c

I use to get it for my back all the time in the early 2000’s I dont know how all these people got addicted to it OD. ibuprofen will give you liver problems.

  • JRock

Right. That’s what I was thinking too.

  • We Can Do This

    White lives matter.

Whites are dying in record numbers and look what this manufacturer is willing to do. Sacrificing profits for their fellow man and woman.

  • We Can Do This

Right. Jail has been the answer for all other addictions and mental illnesses.

  • We Can Do This

They are seeing an increase in young white kids over dosing.

We all know, not their kids! Something has to be done.

  • We Can Do This

Cicero had the best line in black film history!!!

  • Mrs. S. Kidd

Ok. They are pulling out all the stops for white crackheads.

  • Truthteller

Ok. If it was us, the response would be, Where does personal responsibility come in? You people need to start in your households. You cannot expect the government or companies to do what you are not willing to do personally. Your families are falling apart, do something for yourselves for ONCE, for Chrissakes!

  • TruthTeller

I don’t even think that would do it. It would have to be widespread for them to even flinch OR they are getting something from the govt on the sly or behind the scenes. Like some funding for research on some other drugs or maybe a look the other way pass for something from the FDA..I think that’s the only thing that would prompt them to put a stop to that cash cow.

  • Coffee1st

Prolly cuz one of THEIR kids, nephews or nieces have been affected.

  • Coffee1st

I don’t feel the way you do but i can’t blame you neither.

  • Truthteller

Can I get a million amens? Truth is truth. I don’t shed a tear when karma finally catches up to folks. Stop doing dirt to everybody and every damn thing on the earth and you won’t have so many emotional & psychological demons chasing you that require you to self-medicate just to escape them.

  • hottlanta

They will blame black single parent households for this mess. PBS did a good documentary on meth years ago. They showed a town in Oregon and it was off the chain.

  • gail jones

Oh MY God. SO SO true

  • gail jones

    PREACH!

  • gail jones

    Gurrrlll

  • gail jones

    Me neither

  • You Could Never

Ken Norton was fine as hell in that movie. Good yet very angering movie

  • sunni_daze

Right. Because the only cut they would have made for us is a cut thru the alley straight to jail.

  • Noirluv45

Ah huh. That’s the only thing that motivates them to move…when it involves them.

  • Quitedeliteful

    LOLLOLLOL!!!!

  • yvette46

If these drugs were killing black folks the drug industry would be open 24-7…

  • Quitedeliteful

A lot of people sell their pills. After going to the dentist I went to the bathroom down the hall and wondered why it was so crowded. People were in there divvying up (and I’m guessing selling) their pills!!! On my sister’s job there is a woman who is in cahoots with some doctor and she gets pills from him which she then sells. She seems to make a pretty penny — brand new car, design bags, etc.
and all on a receptionists salary
