TI Harris

Rapper T.I. Harris commented on the current student protests over gun control in the wake of the Florida high school massacre. T.I. is a very vocal critic of the Trump administration and Republicans, but he is also a gun enthusiast who served federal time for possessing weapons.

While T.I. believes the system is broken, he doesn't think Americans should lose their Constitutional right to bear arms.

T.I. said losing the right to bear arms could make it easier for the government to enslave American citizens.

It's a tough one," he tells TMZ. "I think you should probably make it more difficult for people who aren't mentally stable to have guns, and maybe there should be some... I just honestly feel like if you lose the right to bear arms as a citizen, then you know what I'm saying, it's easy to enslave. It's easy for the government to enslave people when they don't have the right to bear arms."

Nikolas Cruz, who killed 17 people with an AR-15 assault rifle, was diagnosed with a list of psychological disorders. President Trump was criticized for reversing former President Obama's ban on the mentally ill purchasing guns.

T.I., who went to prison for collecting automatic and semi-automatic assault rifles, said felons like himself are not the ones shooting up schools, it's the legally licensed gun owners.

"I think mental stabilization needs to be a big part," T.I. said. "Just not being a felon isn't enough. We see that, that isn't working. People think that the felons that's causing all the problems, but you know, it seems as though people who have been given gun license, who bought guns legally. Those are the ones causing all the mass hysteria, so I think that our system's broken."

  • FOR COMMENT

100%. The 2nd amendment is to protect us from a tyrannical government. They want the guns to gain complete control. Why else would the media be pushing for gun control but stay completely silent on abortion or the murder rate in Chicago, New Orleans etc..

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

I don't like guns... All I got for this...

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

No one is trying to prevent folks from baring arms. It’s from baring AR’s and AK’s- military weaponry.

    They know this...

  • deanya

?? we enslaved already ...also wtf would citizens do against the Military i mean just because people have these guns don't mean they can shot or keep the government at bay if shit goes crazy

  • JoJoDancer

His statement is a little off topic. The issue is Assault Riffles; not the right to bear arms. You can still own guns.

  • Blak

Who is stupid enough to even care about this idiots opinion? Black people, seek better role models instead of this clown who is a convicted felony that peddles and abuses drugs and can barely speak a lick of proper English. His profits come from exploiting women and glorifying drugs, guns and violence.

  • deanya

? but they not silent on any of those things

  • WutizstillHERE!

I don't think people are saying take responsibility people guns away. I do think it should be a more tighter application process.

  • WutizstillHERE!

I have one really weird question. If the gov wanted to truly unarm us... you don't think they would have already? They've proven time and again what WE want is pretty much irrelevant...

  • Oh Tommie

Am I tripping....I see these white men as the problem... biggest terrorist threat we have, but no one is talking about it

  • davine puddin

As a person with mental health issues i can buy a gun which should be illegal. I think it should be irresponsible of people who knowingly have guns in a home eith mentally unstable people. I cant become a cop or a co so how can i be a private owner? You wouldnt keep alcohol in the house with a recovering alcoholic so why keep guns?

  • davine puddin

I believe people should have the right to bare arms but i think you should be 21 and no mental health issues.

  • Liah

Nah you not trippin...In fact youre woke!

Nobody is stripping people’s rights of owning a gun. The debate is about assault rifles that are readily available. Especially to 18 yrs old and people with mental issues.

  • L.T.L. Since 2007

Asking TI about gun control is akin to asking one these lil rainbow haired "rappers" like Lil Xan or SmokePurp about the war on drugs.

  • Renee26

The Republicans decided there was no need for the law that was already in place to TRY and prevent mentally unstable people from buying guns...they did away with it already; don't think they will put that very law back into place.

  • Kayke

You are stripping the rights of the type of weapon one can own, when every gun fires the same way....with a finger attached to a person.
Guns don't kill people, no more than spoons make you fat. It's much easier to have stricter laws for gun crimes, gun negligence and death penalities for mass murderers. I want my access to guns, every model that's made.

  • datjerk

Who cares what his position is?! We need some sort of gun control now!

  • JRock

I may sound preschool petty. But I don't like TI. This fool once videotaped one of his ignant sons peeing in the middle of the street in broad daylight. Not behind a tree or garbage dumpster but right in the street. I know kids are usually off limits but this boy was old enough to know better and he and his doubly ignant father thought it was hilariously funny. So umm, yeah, no one is listening to this felon.

On gun control. Senator Marco Rubio was booed at a town hall meeting recently because he said he will continue to accept money from the NRA. I said this last week that as long as congress and senate are having their pockets lined by the NRA gun control reform just ain't going to happen.

After the Florida shootings, @sandrarose mentioned lthat if she had kids she would home school them as a way of trying to keep them safe and maybe even purchase bulletproof backpacks. I agree it may be a safe option. The thing with home-school is that you have to make sure the parents or guardians are of sound mind. I read yesterday that some kids were taken away from their parents this week after it was learned that the kids were being beaten and starved and weren't being home-schooled at all. It broke my heart and I had to stop reading the story when it was reported that the kids were eating paint off the walls because they were starved and not being fed. Jesus, hear our cries and help us!

  • datjerk

Ppl hear what they want to hear tho

  • Kemi

The discussion is about making it accessible to people who are teenagers and mentally ill. In my state, you can’t even go/drink in a bar or purchase alcohol until you’re 21. I do agree with you that they need to tighten gun laws.

  • shalynneb1

Trumps hate of anything Obama will never allow him to do that. He rather have his shaved then admit President Obama was right about something. So if there is anything change it will be worse then before.

  • Dowoop

Because contrary to popular belief Chicago does not have the highest murder rate in the US.

  • Phillybruh

    He lost his...lol

  • Kayke

If you can vote, you should be able to use your rights. Change the voting age, if you don't want teens with weapons. I agree with the mental illness position....however tightening the laws do not apply to lawless citizens. The consequences will apply to everyone, the negligent seller and the user.....they won't go this route because it'll mostly pertain to yt men. That's how you know it's the answer, because they're not talking about heightened consequences.

  • Kemi

    You’re right!

  • Tgritty

Why do gun enthusiasts do this? No one is taking guns away, just make it harder for nutjobs to purchase them.

  • Renee26

    Exactly!

  • Kemi

There’s a proposed legislation in my state to prevent teens from from assault weapons. Hopefully, the bill will be passed! I agree there has to be heightened consequences attached to people who use gun irresponsibly or commit crimes etc. At the end of the end, ppl who wants to impose evil, will find a way

  • Marquita

He is not aging well at all. He used to be so good looking to me. I guess all the booz and whores haven its toll.

  • Shawty

Right, no one wants to take them all away, just assault rifles. You don't need a gun that spits 100 rounds per minute for protection. Those are weapons of mass destruction. If you not in the military, please explain why it's needed.

  • Blaque Mahogany

No one is taking away your right to own a dam gun. What is so hard to understand about that? Maybe the people protesting background and mental evaluations think they would not be able to pass the screening. I refuse to believe these many people are unable to comprehend this simple concept.

  • Silknsatin

I'm retired Army. I was assigned an M16 that was locked in an arms room unless we were going to the range, or on a deployment. We didn't get to take it home with us. An M16 is the same as an AR-15. My M16 was not for hunting or sport...it was for killing. No civilian should have access to that type of weapon, and if they do...they should have to follow the same guidelines. I mean..I get it. I loved going to the range. It was fun. But we were training to kill. If you're going to have that type of weapon you should be required to store it in some type of locked facility, not in your home. You take it out...you go to the range...you put it back!!

  • Cannelle

"It’s easy for the government to enslave people when they don’t have the right to bear arms.”

T.I. is talking about the US government, who has more weapons and killing machines than any other country on the planet, BY FAR. Paid for by our taxes, of course. The next largest arsenal doesn't even come close. The US government has NUKES. They've got weapons in storage from every war that the US has ever been involved. They even have OTHER countries weapons in storage from wars fought in the last 200 years.

Like, what is T.I. and Jim Bob going to do with their <60 weapons against the United States? Nothing, that's what. It isn't 1792 anymore.

  • AndSo

Right. Guns may not kill people; people kill people. HOWEVER, can we all admit that guns make it much easier to kill MORE people than an unarmed person could? Can we agree on that? Especially semi-automatics or guns which are basically made for warfare?

Now can someone explain to me why putting some basic restrictions on the purchase of such weapons is bad for society?

  • Stationarity

Just curious. You just said that EVERY gun fires the same way. If so, why do you need access to EVERY model? Why isn't having access to 2000 models enough? Why isn't having access to clip that holds 6 rounds vs more enough? Guns aid in killing people and making it easier to kill more quicker. You can't deny that. It willful ignorance if you claim that there isn't a difference in killing power of guns because if it wasn't you wouldn't want access to it.

  • Stationarity

Right. Another argument is if people have to register they can tell what they have and confiscate their guns. They don't need that either. All they have to do is check the internet cause gun owners talk about what they have freely. I also think the argument for "fighting the government" doesn't make sense. If they wanted to enslave us, semi-automatic weapons won't work in defense against a tank. Forget weapons, they can just cut the power, water, and internet and close the gas stations and banks !

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

No they understand it quite well but playing dumb like they usually do. They are fully aware that this is about automatic rifles.

  • Stationarity

How is your gun or guns gonna protect you from the government? Please explain. Scenario- The government decides that it makes more sense to take over 350 million people in the US...change that. Lets just say, ATLANTA. They want to enslave the people in Atlanta and make them work for free in factories or something. They come in with Tanks, drones, etc. They cut all the utilities and block the grocery stores, roads, everything. What is your gun gonna do to help you? Are you stock piling enough bullets to last for a couple of years? Are you gonna create a Fort in your subdivision or apartment and hold it down for... a couple of days, a month, years???

  • The Last Word

    Terribly silly comment.

First, using your analogy, its what comes out of the gun, i.e., bullets, that kills you, and what comes off of the spoon, e.g., sugar, that makes you fat. Second, take away the guns and there's no more murders by gun. Third, it's not guns, but arms, which would include bazookas, SAMs, etc., but those are prohibited. Fourth, the idea that the rights described in the second amendment cant be restrained ignores the fact that we restrain constitutional rights all the time. For example, the government can and does impose restrictions on speech as to content, time, place, etc. I cant yell profanity at the top of my lungs in a residential area at 3 am because its unreasonable, despite my 1st amendment right to freedom of speech. Somehow, gun nuts believe the so-called right to keep and bear arms is absolute.

The second amendment is an anachronism, originally designed for the purpose of allowing whites to arm themselves against slave revolts. It wasnt about protecting citizens from a tyrannical govetnment, or the British, it was about slaves.

  • The Last Word

Youve obviously never read the Constitution or the Federalist Papers. The Second Amendment was not designed to protect Americans from tyrannical government.

  • Kayke

Precisely. In the fight against obesity we don't go after the spoons. ARMS use to mean any weapon that uses gunpowder, now it's ALL offensive and defensive weapons. Profanity or what is considered "fighting words" has always been restricted as you do not have the right to incite altercations or lawless actions with your words. Nothing new. It is more likely you'd be arrested for disorderly conduct, or breaking that community's noise ordinance. It would be some kind of public order offense. The revisions to the 1st amend has been to have it apply to the new mediums we use to express ourselves....social media etc.
The right to bare arms was for slave owners needing a law to arm themselves again their cattle, their personal property? That's funny. They beat, breed, murder, rape their personal property but needed permission to shoot them? Scapegoats as always. Citizens called for their right to bare arms to protect themselves from big government....foreseeing what we have today, where the federal gov't trumps states rights.... Y they left their country to begin with. Without weapons you truly have no fight when force is a apllied, then and now. When Black people were freed and picked up arms was the first time they amended the right to carry in public as they did not want us armed. Having big government enfringe on yts rights in order to thrawt freed black's use of the right was unacceptable. The NRA lifted their self restrictions on machine guns and other weapons citizens were not allowed up to that point as a 'stick it to the man". Blacks again as scapegoats as if the lift seemed a response on our behalf ..... The result was blacks were not armed in public and had less protections at home as machine guns were not available to us, or we could not afford them. You want gun law change, as a black person, then arm yourself, and should you need it, use due diligence to make sure it is not a black face at the end of your barrel. You'll see change.

  • Kayke

Cars aid in killing people, we aren't limiting people to hatchbacks and smart cars for a smaller impact. Yes higher powered weapons have higher power. Gun laws will not stop lawless citizens with access to these weapom from causing me harm. As a lawful citizen I reserve the right to be equally yoked in my protection of myself and family. The answer is to stop the production of said weapons as the access to them can never be properly regulated....and I will not vote my rights away with the obvious conclusion that only law abiding citizens will be affected.

  • Stationarity

PERFECT EXAMPLE! Cars- there are age restrictions, yearly certifications for emissions, insurance requirements, and you have to get certified/license. Andddddd if you want to drive a bigger vehicle than everyone else, you have to get a special license and insurance. Any and everybody cannot drive a semi, which would be equivalent to a semi-automatic using the example you provided. Thanks. That is all most people are asking for. More regulations and YES everybody should not be able to have the most dangerous weapon aka the 18 wheeler vehicle. And cars do kill people but that isn’t there intended purpose. Guns are MADE to kill period and if they weren’t, you wouldn’t want one so bad. And some guns can kill quicker and faster than others. Good luck carrying your semi automatic around everywhere for protection against criminals. The argument for them is just unreasonable. They aren’t necessary. A law abiding citizen wouldn’t even have it readily available during a crime. You aren’t gonna have it at the movies, teachers aren’t gonna have one handy at school during a shooting, they aren’t gonna carry it to church. Heck you probably wouldn’t even have it if someone mugged you on the street.

There are ALOT of countries that don’t allow access to high powered guns or any guns as a matter of fact and somehow they have managed NOT to be Gotham City but ok.

  • Kayke

Not a perfect example as the right to a car is not an amendment. Special licensing for an 18 wheeler does not stop me from owning them . I can buy as many as I can afford.... I just can't drive them legally. See how that works. Nothing to stop me from getting in my semi unlicensed and driving over a bunch of people. The right to carry isn't my debate....Iys thay I wouldn't even be allowed to have it in my home. Are you saying crime only happens in public? Those countries never had weapons....they aren't putting the lid back on, it never came off. In those same countries citizens are overrunned by government. Speech is sensored, information is restricted and people still kill people. Name a country and we can compare their human rights to other countries and see how they pale in comparison. FYI, African countries have the least amount of citizens armed thats how we can slavery their in 2018.

  • BingBangBoom

so killing someone with a gun for drugs, territory, money owed or petty beef isn't a sign of mental illness? Why are we listening to T.I. again?

  • Stationarity

Your second amendment right is not being impacted just because you can’t have the biggest baddest gun available to play with. Do you also disagree with people not being able to buy machine guns? You would still have 1000’s of other guns to choose from and buy. Semi-automatics are not even practical for protection at home or in the streets and you know it. That was my point. Yes- I think crime happens at other places besides outside of the house.

I do not agree about Africa. You know there are many other problems there. You can’t just claim causation cause it correlates in a few countries that have been in turmoil forever for various reasons and corruption. So did you change the argument to percentage of people with guns from you HAVE to have semi-automatics for safety.

I think people should be able to own guns just not ones that can kill rapidly for an extensive amount of time with little effort. I also think there should be stricter requirements for gaining access. But that might be problematic. At the very least, an age limit and registration requirement:

Australia banned semis, Britain, UK, Ireland, Isreal, Germany... all have stricter gun control. Yes, let’s compare their liberties to ours.

All of them have special rules and certain limitations. America needs to do better. It’s not your right to be able to carry any type of gun you want. If you have one gun, you are bearing arms and exercising your rights instead of pretending like you need it to fight and defend your liberties (when really you need it cause it’s “fun” to shoot and recreation)

And I know it won’t stop all the deaths but I will accept a decrease in the murder rate and make it being just a little harder to kill 20 people with the blink of an eye in exchange for the right of citizens to have a semi-automatic just in case a gang criminals come and attack their home with semi-automatics ( don’t know how that one is gonna save you but ok)
