Yale University

Yale University is introducing a new course to counteract the damage done to blacks by centuries of "whiteness". The prestigious university will introduce the new course in the spring of 2018.

According to Brietbart.com, the class will explore "whiteness" as a "culturally constructed and economically incorporated entity, which assigns value to nearly every aspect of American life and culture."

The course portrays "whiteness" as a cultural construct developed by colonial whites to justify their power and privilege over black people.

The course will teach students that the purpose and intent of "whiteness" was to conquer, humiliate and shame the descendants of African people.

Students will be encouraged to confront and counter "whiteness" in every medium as "powerful fiction enforced by power and violence."

The class will be taught by Yale Professor of English Claudia Rankine (pictured above), whose work often focuses on the topic of race, classism, and “whiteness.”

A similar course, entitled “The Problem of Whiteness,” is being offered at the University of Wisconsin, Madison.

  • Phillybruh

They need to teach it in High schools.

  • You Could Never

    Take note PRINCETON.

  • JRock

There is a better use for curriculum than a class to correct centuries of whiteness. Wake the hell up. Racism is never going away. White privilege is never going away. A class of this type might put some people in touch with their feelings but it won't absolve whites or blacks. I only see more racial uprising from such a class and more idealisms of "white privilege".

  • LeeSeeCee

I agree, this needs to be taught much earlier than an elective course in college.

  • Fire & Ice

We don't want no damn class!!! Give us our seven acres and a mule, like your lieing ass ancestors promised.....and then go the hell away. That's how you correct whiteness?

  • Rachel

Sorry but if this ain’t gonna be taught in the backwoods of the Bible Belt. This class obsolete. LBJ said if you can make the poorest white person think they are better than the best black person. You can be POTUS. Look at how 45 won. One class will not change the minds of the ignorant.

  • Tunie

It's long overdue. It's up to wypipo to fix themselves...that's why their kids are shooting up every damn thing in sight. And don't get me started on Blonde, Blue-Eyed Jesus

  • bemetoo

    Yes lbj

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

    THIS! 100%

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

Right, why do people have to pay hundreds of dollars to learn how much of a scum the European colonizers were? This is high school material.

  • bemetoo

I want my 7 acres and 10 million

  • Ms.Vanilla

I wonder if she will be inclined to use the words honky, cracker, white trash etc, to prove a point.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

Tired of this division mess ... There is (1) Unconditional love... Division creates conditions... flawed beliefs systems . Systematic ideals groups... Teachings .. Competition between races etc... Either love... Or get mowed down ... And you will get mowed down so be warned ... All I got for this ... As for the curriculum ... Man listen be open to learning but don't ever let someone teach you a mindset all because deep down there is ill intent under the surface ... Dark people will try to create division ... And yes even your own race will do this.. . (111)

  • NeverSurprised

The amount of land promised was FORTY (40) acres, not 7.

  • Blaque Mahogany

I'm here for it. Even though this principle is pretty much explored in any decent Social Diversity/conflict race theory course.

The reality is that yt people as a collective will never walk away from their privilege. It doesn't make sense for them to do that. Why would they risk economic equity (read: possible economic hardship/loss) and other social benefits? Not going to happen. Nevertheless, I've always enjoyed sitting in class talking a CAC and the ish that CAC do and get away with.

  • Bonsai

This is a course for white folks because they the ones that are clueless or in denial so much that they need a class to be taught this or brought to their attention. We black people already know they the devils no class needed. Unless you a coon or bed wench.

  • Blak

All kinds of stupid. Why need teach courses on tolerance as opposed to divisiveness? This is nothing but a cash grab and publicity stunt by yet another angry lesbian

  • Bonsai

This right here!!!! Say it again!!!

  • Renee26

Sounds like American History to me

  • Blue

    lmao. Just one class?

  • Bonsai

"Dark people will try to create division"? How so? I assume you're light skin.

  • Blue

    Tempting

  • Roxie Moxie

Gosh, I can't stand black people like you. Or whatever you may be. You're talking about something being "stupid", yet your entire sentence structure is that of a child and makes no sense, in my opinion. Do you know her personally to know her sexual preference? Have you even heard of her before this post came out? Her list of accomplishments FAR exceeds ANYTHING that you'll ever do! By the way, what you are YOU doing to make some change in your neck of the woods? Don't worry. I'll wait.

  • Roxie Moxie

I mean, it's only right.....right? LOL The other professor thought it to be useful to use the N word several times to make a point, so.......

  • Kemi

I would like to be a part of class just to seek their justification as to why U.S. society is characterized by socially created racial hierarchy that values whiteness above all others.

  • Noirluv45

"Dark people will try to create division...." What?

  • You Could Never

    You assume wrong.

  • Roxie Moxie

LOL....smh. I wonder if these folks REALLY even know what this phrase means? Probably not. Just regurgitating stuff they heard. I've read about it and it's more than just 40 acres and a mule. And even if we DID get this, what will we do with this newly found allocation of land?

  • Noirluv45

There are a lot of things we can do with the land. I, for one, would create a community garden with fresh fruits and vegetables. I'd probably also raise chickens and such for the eggs. I would use the land to help my people. I would also build on it as well. Black people are very creative and innovative.

  • JV

If true -- very possible -- you say that like it's a bad thing. A lot of divisiveness in humanity, I think, is caused by ignorance. Learning can only help.

  • Fire & Ice

Thanks for letting me know ?. Ugh no wonder why the reneged...we would have OWNED this country, and them, with that much land! Whoever has control over the land,is the one with the most power.

  • jazzysmith12

Aren't yte people from the Neanderthal cave beast who was a salvage evil beast. That would make the n inherently evil then. That explains TRUMP!!!

  • JV

Yeah, Connecticut's definitely not in the Bible Belt, lol

  • Roxie Moxie

Very, VERY good idea!!!!! I believe in growing your own food and that is exactly what we should do. Great idea.

  • MookieFly

Beautiful work is being done here!

  • Holler If Ya Hear Me

For real. White privileged would be corrected overnight if we received the payment that our ancestors slaved over.

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

It is a troll from Stormfront. They purposely go to Black boards to get Blacks riled up & "acting like a monkeys."
    It is a trap.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

If it goes over your head... Carry on... Not for you to get... ?

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

Dark people will try to create division

What? By telling the truth and making sure others know the truth?

  • Blak

Have several seats on her face while you wait...

  • Bonsai

Ok... that's fine that I am wrong. Would you also like to speak for her on why it is "dark people that create division"? Is it because of the picture of the dark skin lady that Sandra posted up above?

  • puppylove

She means dark energy not skin color

  • Kayke

Uh huh! Sadly I responded. Thanks for the info.

  • puppylove

She means dark energy not skin

  • davine puddin

And here my friends are why student loans and low college gratuation rates are among us. How about just write books on that topic. At times it appear if you do not lean towards the professors idiologies they give you grim grades. Had a professor once write on my paper "you dont believe the views you supported do you" i kindly told doctor of XYZ that my feelings and opinions are private i went with the amount of source material. I wonder if someone ever tried to use that topic as a graduate thesis and got turned down.

  • You Could Never

No. I dont want to speak on that...or I would have already. But will say I dont think it has ANYTHING to do with skin complexion. Dats it.

  • Tequila Mockingbird

She means ppl with dark energy and I'll intentions not dark skinned....

  • Kayke

Not in this case....it's is not ignorance. They know more about us than we do ourselves as we served as guinea pigs for their scientific and psychologically discoveries. For us it has been deliberate demeaning of who we are. They know why we are threaening to them. You don't scheme this grand on ignorance or animals.

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

    Gotcha.
    Thanks.

  • Bonsai

    Thank you for the clarification.

  • Bonsai

    Thank you.

  • Tequila Mockingbird

Good God, what year is it? Can this ish be done? No one alive today was a slave nor owned one wtf?! What's the goal here?

  • Kayke

Just assume she's a doofus and they come in all colors.

  • Trace da Ace

OMG!! You hit the nail on the head.....#truth....I'm so over division as well....it seems as if we are the only country that has so much hate within our own walls!! We as a people should learn to live and love together instead of finding ways to divide our nation even more than it already is.

  • Won’t help

It’s not going to help. Colonialists/whites did a mindfuck on the entire world. It’s astounding. Even with money, prestige, and even royalty, people of color believe white is right. Wealthy, and even royals of color, get educated in American or European schools, adapt Western customs and ways of thinking, dressing, and speaking (believing they must speak English) and have the deep rooted ideology that Western, ie white, is right. Money doesn’t change that. Minorities in America becoming the majority won’t change that, especially when whites will still hold the most economic power. Times are changing, slowly but surely. This is a good start but it will literally take hundreds of years. Donald Trump is helping by weakening the United States internally, and in the eyes of the world, so I guess he’s good for something. Asian and Middle Eastern countries becoming more powerful is also helping the paradigm shift.

White being right in America will never change. We have to own, and continually establish and demonstrate, our value and greatnesss.

I honestly feel this black woman is wasting her time teaching this to classrooms full of white students, even though I’m sure every black student there will enroll, and could use her talents elsewhere. You can not change hearts and minds, particularly of white people. They continue to demonstrate this, yet we continue to try.

  • Won’t help

This is true! It’s a crime we never got our reparations!

  • JV

I contend that the average racist and also white American is a Trump supporter, and I also contend that said people are highly ignorant and could use some education.

  • Won’t help

    You better say it. lol.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

I agree. Courses like this just reinforce the grievance/victim mentality. At some point we have to start moving past this stuff.

  • JV

Because no oppression or anything bad happened to black people after slavery. Nope, nothing at all. /s

  • zero options

Uh, not trying to demean her, but I thought Angela Davis covered this topic and others years ago.
    I could be wrong.

  • Won’t help

Agreed. She could go to public schools and teach black children our history, the good, the bad, and the ugly. I believe this would
change some behavior. Then show them positivity and how there’s a way out. Give out scholarships and crate reading and math programs to bridge the achievement gap. That class is nonsense and almost bullshit.

  • Bonsai

Agreed. A simple “evil” would have sufficed. Why connotate “dark” with bad or adverse. Dark is beautiful and so is light.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

Correct whiteness??? LOL Uhmmm The only way they correct anything is by paying Reparations to the DOS blacks in America... The Westcoast has so many black studies courses covering a wide array of issues Yale needs to step it up they are like 35 years late...
Admit more black students... to their school. Admit more black males and black women DOS Americans in their universities or partner with HBCUs more... Its a lot of things they can do if they really wanted impact.

  • puppylove

    NANCY!!!!!

  • NeverSurprised

Agree 100%. I always use Japanese success as an example for what we can also achieve. They have managed to dominate all areas of education and business because they refuse to see themselves as victims. They give a big middle finger to the white man and surpass him every day in every industry, while blacks spend every waking moment trying to change how the white man views us.

Success will always be the best revenge. I have white people applying for jobs at the company that I own and paying me rent to live in my properties,, so I don't give a damn about any historical view of "whiteness." just make sure that rent check isnt late.

Let's save and invest and strive to be great TODAY, rather that using the crutch of slavery to hold OURSELVES down.

  • JV

This class could be a lot of things, because I don't trust the Breitbart link it came from and I don't even feel like clicking on it.

Coons think this while they continue to plot to keep us down. You will not find white people, the ones who are racist and hate filled, preaching this mess or defending blacks, certainly not to each other. They’re too busy plotting to stay ahead by electing somebody like Donald Trump, pretending to be fed up with him, yet keep him in office. It’s because of them there’s division in the first place. Did you even read why people feel this class needs to be taught?

P.S. you have the darkest energy. Everything you type and put out is negative and hateful. Reflective of a dark spirit. You are also vulgar, speak in a trashy manner, and are extremely hypocritical.

I respectfully disagree. Their most valuable resource is their unwavering determination to be the best, not sit around griping about what whites did to them almost 80 years ago. They don't march, they don't protest, they don't whine -- they ACHIEVE.

That same success can been seen in many asian groups. Vietnamese refugees who came here after the war with NOTHING built businesses and raised children who were first in their class. They certainly could not look to their wartorn former country for resources. Instead, they lived 10 or 12 family members in a room, saved every dime, opened small businesses, and succeeded.

I believe the MINDSET and the victim mentality --refusing to let go of the past -- is what separates blacks from those other people of color.

  • JV

It’s not fair to cross-compare cultures/race/ethnic groups like that because there a very different backgrounds as to how these demographics even came to be in America. Cultures immigrating to this country is completely different than being forced here and overcoming systemic slavery
& oppression, and Jim Crows, and every other hurdle since. Not that everything is just great with other races and cultures being here (the 1924 immigration reform for example), but I just don’t think it’s helpful because it paints an inaccurate picture.

  • Kemi

At the end of the day, some of ‘them’ still see us as less than. No matter our educational attainments, personal successes and resilience. If Lebron, with all of his athletic and monetary achievements could have his gate defaced with the word N...., Nothing is changing. But we as people can rise above doing great things!

  • NeverSurprised

I agree. We do not pool our economic resources as other groups do.

  • dblogged

why do women test the love/patience of a good dude? Throwing wild accusations and more to get what kind of result?

  • SpillyNillie

They certainly could not look to their wartorn former country for resources.
    _________________________________________
But they did look to this country for resources that were not equally made available to African American citizens. For example, business loans. An entire dissertation can be done on this one subject alone.

  • NeverSurprised

I disagree. I think it is incredibly helpful to look at other people of color and see whether we can learn from the things they have done. If we are arguing that "whiteness" is the overarching factor, then why has the lack of whiteness not stopped other groups of color from achieving?. Do we really believe that ONLY blacks have been on the receiving end of systemic racism?

We are not the only people who have been enslaved. At one point, " the sun never set on the British empire." England colonized people of color around the globe. So why are so many of those people of color (Indians and Pakistanis, for example) successful today. Why are these brown people who were formerly the property of white Brits, now dominating the medical profession in EVERY country in which they settle? And why are they similarly dominant in technology around the globe?

Again, I would argue that these groups do not dwell on the past. They look to their PRESENT abilities and apply them to achieve their goals. American blacks are unique in their steadfast desire to focus more on what the white man did to their great great great grandparents, and what he wont LET them achieve, than they are in focusing on what they can do themselves.

    --------

No – and I did make it a point to mention
one example of oppression against non-whites. But blacks have been litigated against for longer and far more often than any other group, that much is clear, which is why I feel that side-to-side comparisons create an incomplete – and inaccurate
    – picture.

  • NeverSurprised

I have no problem if people want to focus on reparations. Japanese who were interned during WWII eventually received $20,000 per family under President Reagan as compensation. Blacks who can trace their lineage back to American slaveholdets certainly have every right to demand reparations if they wish. That is an economic issue with which I have no problem. HOWEVER....

Wasting time, energy, emotions and resources trying to get white people to think differently about their "whiteness" and what it means to people of color is silly. Silly and wasteful. WHAT WHITE PEOPLE THINK OF BLACKS DOES NOT MATTER NEARLY AS MUCH AS WHAT WE BLACKS THINK OF OURSELVES.

    Dear Yale,

Please apply your MASSIVE resources to a more worthy cause. Use the funds in inner city classrooms, helping black children learn to respect our history and the sacrifices of their forefathers. Hopefully, such knowledge will make it more difficult for them to pull guns on each other and snuff out the lives of their own people.

Too many of us are caught up in the sickness that is victim mentality. Everything you say is correct, but it make no difference to those among us who keep insisting that they are victims. We languish behind and make excuses.

But mainly towards Black people. There are laws still on the books in many states that prohibit Blacks from moving in their neighborhoods. Name another oppressed group.

  • Noirluv45

How can we "move past this stuff" when it's still in effect? We have a corrupt prison system (the new slavery), a school to prison pipeline, Black children being thrown into special education classes for behavioral problems more than anyone else. Move past it? Never. We're still fighting.

  • Noirluv45

That whole statement is false. We aren't sitting around wading in the pool of victimhood. We are facing real and actual assaults against us. We are dealing with a prison system that overwhelmingly arrests Blacks for minor offense. We are dealing with an educational system who routinely puts Blacks kids in special education classes and punishes them for offense White children get away with. To compare us to Africans and anyone else from other countries who have a country, language, culture, and customs is one of the oldest most absurd trick in the book used by Whites to dismiss their racism, and sadly, some Black folks play from the same lame game book because it's always easy to dismiss us.

  • Quitedeliteful

LOLLOLLOLLOL!!!!!!! Give Lil Hots a break!!! She done good!!!!

  • Noirluv45

Our country has never been like that. If you want to deal with division, start at the source, and the source is not us.

  • Noirluv45

That's what she should've said instead of being a smart ass. Say what you mean, and mean what you said. Instead of her being a smart ass. People just wanted her to make herself clear, but instead she got her panties in a knot.

  • Quitedeliteful

Sounds like a big waste of time....

  • Noirluv45

    Awesome!!! ??????

  • AndSo

If that the case then DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT that don't depend on outside sources to fix it for you! That is PRECISELY what all these other folks did that we don't! They pulled up from they bootstraps and made a better life! BE INVOLVED in black children's lives! Don't get involved with DEADBEATS that leave they kids with no father! Be able to AFFORD a child so you can live in a GOOD area and send them to a decent school. DISCIPLINE them, tutor them academically and don't allow them to listen to gangster rap and glorified criminality! Keep an eye on them and don't let them hang out/watch/be exposed to bad influences! There is FAR too much of that in our community! It is undeniable!

Only then can we RISE! But we have to do it ourselves! Quit being a victim!

  • puppylove

I am not sure if she has ever referenced skin color in a negative way. Doesn't seem to be her nature. She was saying if you didn't understand, it wasn't meant for you. Not disrespectful.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

whoa settle down... bypass my shyt ... matter fact ?

  • Noirluv45

Perhaps you've been asleep, but for 500 years, our bootstraps are getting frayed and worn. After being brought over here, raped, pillaged, beating, tarred, feathered, lynched, and every other atrocious act you can think of, what the hell do you think we've been doing? Perhaps you watch too much mainstream media and have missed that we do everything (and I'm tired of having to educate ignorant Negroes or troll crackers of these facts)...in fact, I'm not going down this rabbit hole with you. We spend our lives trying to explain to people like you that we owe an explanation. If you don't have the mindset to know that, then that's on you.

  • Roxie Moxie

True. I'm sure this professor will have a little more respect for the diversity within her classroom while still making her point. I hope that THEY learn something.....because we already know all too well.

  • AndSo

Why not QUIT explaining and looking for outside people to "get it" and "understand" and "ASSIST" and just focus on improving YOUR life? Why? 'Cause you want "help" doing it from the very people who you just outlined were not helping! That mean you got to do it YOURSELF. ALONE. Why you want "acceptance" of our plight, anyway? That is FOOLISH. The only thing we can do is focus on making appropriate and CONSTRUCTIVE decisions for our future generations. That means, as I have already said: DO NOT have children with deadbeat men, or children the you cannot afford, from multiple deadbeat dads. Be ABLE to afford to move to a place with better school districts before having a child, be AVAILABLE to look after that child and help them with their homework. Over see their lives and do not allow them to get involved or exposed to bad influences. Quit asking our so-called "oppressors" to help us do all of this. They clearly will not! So, why we surprised and angry? WE MUST DO IT OURSELVES. End of story!

I'm sick of excuses from people like you! Your "victim" mentality is self-inflicted and THAT is on YOU.

  • Ms.Vanilla

I was thinking the same exact thing. How can we get past something that is in our faces each and every day. Actually, THEY are the ones who need to get past it. Still holding on to prejudices.

If you don't like it, you can scroll on by it, and ignore it. This attack on her views, (keywords are her and views) is really unwarranted. With all this shit Disqus can do like block, minimize and again keep it pushing... there is no need for this here mess. You can go drink you some bleach now hopefully. Stay blessed bisch.

Lol You’re so right to them classify them as mentally ill. Some just want to suppress Black people by acting like they’re superior
    Bs we are made equal

  • Won’t help

So the “original roses” think she’s a loony tune too. Lmao. So it’s everybody who thinks something is not right. That is sad and hilarious.

“Jenie” is nasty to people, condescending, and thinks she can talk to people any way she wants, apparently like you.

On behalf of me, myself and I, you do all those things you told me to do to yourself. I won’t stoop down to your level.

Ms. V, people, to me, who say "get over it" and the weakest link because they are complacent with the treatment. They'll do everything to defend yt. Pitiful.

No, girl. That's not me. My name starts with a T. Even though I live in Fayetteville, I've only been to Raleigh once (can you believe it?). Sorry, girl. ?

  • We Can Do This

Yes indeed. They have a homeland with a population that all look the same. Not to many outsiders.

    The Japanese model...lol!

  • Noirluv45

This babbling you are doing is called White speak. People like you memorize the stereotypical verbiage and regurgitate it. It's fallacious.

Instead of telling Black folks what they need to do, I suggest you put away our little tired bullshyt by assisting your own people with these talking points:

    1. Drug abuse in White America.
    2. High suicide rates among White men.
    3. Alcohol abuse in White homes (stop raping and molesting your children).
    4. Need more?

  • hottlanta

If they want to correct century of whiteness go and arrest the white woman who lied and said that Emmitt Till sexually harassed her. He died because of her lie and #ME TOO still says nothing. It is funny how folks wanna spread fake news about white people being attacked by black folks going to see Black Panther while we see the violent ones are white people after a football game. They tearing up property, looting, drinking and drugs all over the place and no one called them thugs. The media was acting as if it was a spectator sport. Yet Trayvon was going to the store minding his own business, got shot, died and he was called a thug. Whiteness is helping folks in the White House who has bad credit, no experience and doesn't have a security clearance. Yet the average black person can't get a job if they had traffic ticket and a month behind on a bill. Just saved yall $19.95.

  • Noirluv45

    I already have. Thank you.

  • BRuhman_Vista

Agreed. While this may appease liberal academics, this does nothing in the long run to address real issues affecting black folk. Have a seminar at the local library or community center if you believe this type of thing is important.

  • Kemi

I know there some parts of the world, where people of color are fascinated/obsessed with colorism. To the point that they’re altering their skin color/ physical identity to feel accepted. This can be the product of colonization and enslavement. They are mentally brainwashed.

  • Noirluv45

I disagree. Sometimes we make statements that can be taken in many different ways. You and some others saw it one way; some of us saw it another. I wasn't rude or disrespectful when I said, "What?" All she had to do is say what you said. End of story, but her reply was flippant. I know what she was saying and it's stupid to say if someone doesn't understand someone, it's not for them. It's called being clear when one writes. Only lazy people come back with foolishness like that. That's all I'm saying on that.

  • Noirluv45

Would you please say this again!

  • AndSo

Oh, so now I'm not black then? I see. You actually saying that?! Course you are! OF COURSE.

That's what folks like you do when you encounter an opinion you do not LIKE. As for YOUR nonsense about other races: We 13% (thirteen) of the population here. We, like everybody else, have our share of problems. We read about 'em everyday. I say we worry about OUR issues and take care of them and quit worrying and screaming about everybody else's as a means to JUSTIFY our ever present problems. We got drug abuse, we got rape, we got it all. We also have a very disproportionate amount of OTHER issues in our community. So why are we paying attention to other races and trying to get them to "understand" us? Or "fix" us? We NEED TO FIX OURSELVES. That is the only way. Folks like you will endlessly justify why we are victims and lay blame at outside sources which close the door on us. You not helping. You are definitely not helping. You are part of the PROBLEM.

"Ms. Victim" That is your name.

  • AndSo

Females with lighter skin have been praised in many cultures which predate European colonization.

How in the hell you gonna purposely kill 17 people and tell the judge what kind of sentence you want. Don't let me get started on all of these white people in the Russia probe refusing to talk and not go to jail for contempt of court. I thought if you was summoned you had to attend and if you didn't talk you will be held in contempt. These folks don't show up to court they go skiing as if it is another day in the neighborhood. Whiteness is getting tax breaks/getting paid to lower your rent in a black neighborhood, while you move to a white neighborhood and get tax breaks/nothing to move in but a high mortgage and the neighbors hoping you won't be there long.

  • Won’t help

It is my understanding that light skin represented femininity or being a woman while the dark skin represented masculinity or being a man. Had nothing to do with beauty. That can be looked at as one of the starts of valuing light skin on women, or it could just be the way we see it from modern eyes. That’s why you can’t look at those paintings and determine the race of the dynasties. Women were painted light and men were painted dark. The woman painted light could have been blue black.

  • Won’t help

She attacks people who don’t agree with her and accuses of them of not being on her level, like she’s better than everybody else. You can’t give an opinion then not be willing to listen to the opinions of others, instead dismiss them and tell them what you said went over their head. That’s bringing bullshit. You’re bringing bullshit. Who tf are you to think you can curse people out and tell them who to respond to. You need not address me again.

European imperialists are the cause of indoctrinating colorism during the pre-colonial era to non-European populations with harmful racial ideologies. To think that “lighter skin is better”. In doing so, inferiority complexes were set in. They have used colorism to divide people of color. I believe we all beautiful in our different shades and color. Nice chatting with you, good night!

  • AndSo

There are ancient Egyptian mummies who showed signs of skin bleaching. They were usually from the upper classes. Having darker skin meant you were working out in the fields. Having light skin meant that you enjoyed a life of leisure. Women with lighter skin were prized because it was a sign of affluence and social standing. This is true throughout Asia and the Middle East. Ancient egyptians were also lighter skinned than most of us Western African descendants. They had Upper African/Nubian skin and features and traded/intermarried a lot with places like Greece, where Macedonian families like the one that Cleopatra belonged to came from.

  • Quitedeliteful

Is dude making her feel insecure? Maybe she has a lot of baggage that she's bringing to the relationship instead of leaving the bullshyt behind or maybe she just likes to argue. I know some women who aren't satisfied unless they bring drama and get the man all riled up. If she's causing drama unnecessarily then head for the hills because it probably won't get any better...

  • Quitedeliteful

Chile I am lit today. Black Panthers knocked it out the box and Essence Magazine is owned by black folks again.

  • hottlanta

They were describing it to us and the only word my public school behind could pickup was education. I was good to go.

  • AndSo

But, like I said before: Females (especially) with lighter skin have been prized in cultures which PRE-DATE the type of colonization of which you speak. So, that makes no sense. If your theory was correct then they have some sort of super power. And they do not. Lighter skin represented higher standing in terms of money and class because it meant that you did not have to work out in the fields or farm. You have people to do that for you. So it was very prized. In Egypt. In Asia and India you see it. To have a light skinned wife who didn't have to work in the fields meant that you were a wealthy man with standing.

I have no problem with being darker skinned. And I find ALL humans beautiful. But everything is not the "white man's' fault. That is granted them super powers and they ain't that powerful. Sorry!

  • Kemi

I’m not disputing your point. Europeans in some ways Pre-date colonialism instilled modern western racism; light skin became a symbol of wealth and class. This ideology is wealth-based and encourages color prejudices that lead to social conditioning.

  • Noirluv45

Let me say this. If you are Black, you are complacent and unwilling to do the work it takes to change the way things are. Some Black people love to defend yt. They are the ones that need to do the work, not us. We've don't nothing. We will call out what we see. Some will sit down and do nothing and then chastise Black folks for "playing the victim" nonsense. If you are Black, you are the kind White folks like. You blame Blacks for the evils White folks do.

I'm not going back and forth with you. It's fruitless. You can call me a victim all you want. I'm sure I've done more for my people in my 50+ years of living than you've done. You just repeat the same old talking points. No, YOU are not helping. The end. Good night.

  • Noirluv45

  • CookieMobster

You are making too much since and some folks can NOT handle that.

  • AndSo

Complacent! I am the OPPOSITE of complacent! I am telling folks to quit hoping that change for us is going to happen by looking OUTSIDE our communities. It will not. "Educating" the very people who we feel set up our ills isn't going to accomplish anything. RELYING on other people who we feel set up our ills to somehow make it right ain't going to worth neither! Taking control of it OURSELVES by making pro-active choices for the future and future generations is the only way. The rest is just a waste of our precious energy.

    Jan, 03, 2018

It is with great joy that we announced today, Jan. 3, 2018, that Essence Communications is under new ownership: Essence Ventures LLC, an independent African-American-owned company focused on merging content, community and commerce.

We wish you could have been in the room to see the excitement and pride on the Essence Teams' faces as we gave them the good news. The new journey on which we are embarking will be fueled not only by the passion we have (and have always had) for Black women, but also that Black women will be at the helm as we move forward. Michelle Ebanks will serve as the president of ESSENCE Communications.

Thank you, dear Essence audience, for being in our corner and supporting us over these last 47 years, and we hope you’ll continue to support our work, because we know that we work for you. And nothing makes us happier.

We’d love to hear your thoughts about the news, and how we can best serve you in the year ahead. Feel free to reach out to us on social media.

    Thank You,

    Team ESSENCE

Yes lawd I miss FayetteNam. Remember the rumors about Sherlock? lol, I remember getting so hungry one night while I was in college that I walked from FSU down Murchison rd to that little store on the corner just for some oodles of Noodles... Man, those were the days. Always broke but it paid off.

  • Trace da Ace

  • Noirluv45

United. It's always been divided. I see you said that already. My bad.

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

Wow. You are so deep. Racist.

  • SweetTEE

I can believe it. I'm in Virginia and it's disturbing every time I find out new info about the schools here.

  • Oya Shango

It is about time. I will never forget how horrible my undergraduate years were at a private university, where every required subject was an overwhelming assault of revisionists history interwoven in a sea of unapologetic whiteness. It was darn right depressing, and I knew that I was being brainwashed to worship and submit to white supremacy. I never submitted, but the idea that blacks are forced to spend thousands of dollars to be propagandized in these institutions for a "degree" re-enforcing white supremacy and our ordained "inferiority,"
    boggles the mind.

  • Noirluv45

Lol @ Fayettenam! Girl, will you be able to visit here sometime? My sister told me that's what they called it before we moved there from Lumberton. No, I don't remember the rumors. I don't even know who or what Sherlock is. ? I was just over by FSU not too long ago! Those were the days, huh? Many a college student eating noodles, bread and water. Aren't those memories just a blast to remember?
