Michelle and Barack Obama

Barack and Michelle Obama became ordinary civilians on Jan. 20, 2017, after Donald Trump’s presidential inauguration. But he won’t get rid of them that easily. Netflix just signed the power couple to a multi-year web programming deal.

Barack and Michelle formed a production company called Higher Ground Productions to produce online programming that will promote their political and social agendas.

Netflix said the Obamas would make “a diverse mix of content,” potentially including scripted and unscripted series, documentaries or features, according to the Associated Press.

“We hope to cultivate and curate the talented, inspiring, creative voices who are able to promote greater empathy and understanding between peoples, and help them share their stories with the wider world,” Barack said in the Netflix statement.

“Barack and I have always believed in the power of storytelling to inspire us, to make us think differently about the world around us, and to help us open our minds and hearts to others,” Michelle Obama added.

“We are incredibly proud they have chosen to make Netflix the home for their formidable storytelling abilities,” said Ted Sarandos, Netflix chief content officer.
