Matt Barnes Tekashi

Former NBA player Matt Barnes, left, issued a stern warning to troll rapper 6ix9ine, aka Tekashi69, to let him know that gang banging and social media don't mix.

In a video published by TMZ, Barnes warned the SoundCloud rapper to watch his back after rapper, XXXTentacion, was gunned down in South Florida on Monday.

Barnes implied that X "got in too deep" with the gang culture that clashes with Internet rappers on social media. Disputes are often settled offline with gun violence.

"Bro must have a death wish, man, cause these motherf**kers are not playing. They eat motherf**kers like this for a living," said Barnes, referring to Tekashi who is known more for trolling on social media than for his music.

Barnes warned Tekashi to curb his enthusiasm for social media 'Likes' and follows -- or he could be next.

"You gonna end up running into somebody REAL that's gonna turn your lights out, man. All for what? All for popularity or for some likes?"

X mansion

Fans of slain rapper XXXTentacion shut down Melrose Avenue in Los Angeles during a Memorial for him on Tuesday night. The Broward County Sheriff's Office called X's death a random burglary attempt.

But social media users say they know who the killer is -- and X's murder was not random.

X was shot and killed by two gunmen wearing black hoodies as he sat in his car outside a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, FL on Monday. One of the gunmen wore a red mask.

Later, an Internet rapper named Kidd Soldier posted an image of himself and a homie posing on a car. In the front seat was a red mask.

On Tuesday, Kidd Soldier uploaded a video to social media denying his involvement in X's death.

But others noted that Kidd posted the image of the red mask after details of the shooting were known to the public. They say he posted the image to capitalize off of the tragedy by drawing attention to himself.

  • SpillyNillie

    Really, Matt? Really?

I'll be back when the dialogue switches from these churren rappers, murder and mayhem.

  • MsPam

Everyone needs to grow up, that includes Matt Barnes. Matt is not hood like he wants people to believe.

  • tintin

  • Whiplash(lacejagger)

I never get sad, off of celebrities dying... but this young man’s death has hit me hard. He was no saint, but as a sufferer of chronic depression, some of the lyrics in his music resonated in my soul. I hope the culprits are brought to justice.

  • Toni Toni Toni

I need to some Captions for this fool Soldier. he sounds and looks so idiotic and illiterate with his ugly self. I can't stand people like him. I hope he gets arrested for taking him out like that. BASTARD!!!

  • Carrington

Here's a harsh reality for black folk and rappers; There is a such thing as a Hip Hop/Rap Crimes Division in most metropolitan cities. Not a rock crime division, not a merengue crime division, not a pop crime division, not even a country crime division - a rap/hip hop crime division... which means that only rich BLACK entertainers who can't separate the difference between art and real life are going around killing each other. JUST us. Let that sink in.

  • cherrypie

SMH...Jesus be the fence. Are there subtitles for this???

  • Toni Toni Toni

Exactly. I agree. My son is a HUGE fan so I was forced to hear his music and I actually liked it.

  • Pamela

Not even when you heard of MJ, Whitney and Prince passing? I cried real tears for those three.

  • Torae

These kids have to be the dumbest generation out of all of the past generations. They are complete narcissistic self entitled, high functioning idiots. I’m sorry...????? The fact that people even listened to X, Tekashi and Cardi B baffles me. Their standards are so low and the people making the music are just as dumb as the people buying the music....they are all lost....

"Roaches"...No soul? No ma'am. They haven't been taught direction. Work on yourself. You should never pray for ones demise.

  • Quitedeliteful

Matt Barnes did not lie. Sounds like very good advice and hopefully this kid will smarten up and listen....

Matt Barnes STFU and find some retired business to do....You too old to minding gang related business

  • https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1lo6u-UIbo Nancy Drew-Natural & Luv’n It!

Matt is correct, but, unfortunately, based on what some posted yesterday, this guy does not listen well.

As for these others, i don't normally do it, but if i saw these 2 approaching at dusk, i'd probably cross the street, Lol https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/9d465041cfaadc9080119da3ebc9e8e678679d3b3b44dc4f5fce24974c1de281.gif

girl what is it? (no pics please!)

  • Roxie Moxie

Nope. I said what I said. I don't backtrack. Direction? With all of the resources available to these kids and they choose an alternate route. Some people can't be changed or even want to do better. Simple as that. Not everyone can be helped. So....these people need to be eradicated. They are doing nothing productive in society and are probably causing more harm than good.

Sorry, not sorry. I still stand by what I said.

  • Rainbowbelow

There is a documentary called Black and Blue: Hip Hop Cops that's talks about this.

  • Dun Dilly

I'm CONFUSED..I thought DRAKE's generation of rappers ELIMINATED the need for STREET CRED? The days of needing a background of crack selling and jail time to be an AUTHENTIC street rapper is over...I thought?

  • SingleGalCrazyWorld

Its just a petite flower LOL....AKA he gonna be somebody's petunia in prison...

  • Locapoca
  • Roxie Moxie

Look up Lyor Cohen. He is said to have pioneered the development and growth of hip hop music. And one of the few/many who ensure that today's hip hop feeds the prison pipeline system.

  • Yui

You know, I’m not too sure about that state of our young people. I’m not old or nothing but even I don’t get it. We used to have fun at their age, there was violence around and gang activity. But there was an underlining respect for humanity that these kids lack. They’re soulless.

  • Yoni7

    He knows, Matt. Sit down.

  • Yoni7

I believe the children are our are future
Teach them well and let them lead the way
Show them all the beauty they possess inside
Give them a sense of pride to make it easier
Let the children's laughter remind us how we used to be
    Everybody searching for a hero
People need someone to look up to
I never found anyone who fulfill my needs
    A lonely place to be
And so I learned to depend on me
    I decided long ago
Never to walk in anyone's shadows
If I fail, if I succeed
At least I'll live as I believe
No matter what they take from me
They can't take away my dignity

  • oshh16

Some young people are just as dumb and foolish as the day is long.
So glad I am gen x'er and that wasn't a bowl of cherries either but dayum.

  • Whiplash(lacejagger)

No. They were not kids when they died. Although their deaths were sad, they did not get me down like X’s death. This young man was a year older than my daughter. Sadddd ?

  • oshh16

This is what I am saying, almost like being illiterate, and a sociopath is what's hot. With social media putting it all on display.

  • GAPeach

You're entitled to your opinion. I just don't agree with calling people roaches. That's exactly what "they" call us. Nope, they ain't good dudes, but they all can be saved.

  • Knocked Kneed and Pigeon Toed

Drake was raised by a wealthy white family in Canada. Some of these new these rappers are from the gutter, the hood and were raised around gang culture. That hood/gang life is in alot of these new rappers vs. being on some of the older rappers.

SOCIAL MEDIA has made everyone stars and everyone feels famous and entitled. This generation is like no other before. They don't need an education, they don't parent's approval, and they don't even need money to make themselves seen and heard world wide. That's power no generation of youth have ever known before.

  • HelloToni

    Well it is the truth

  • SweetTEE

But did Matt say all this before or after that boy acknowledged it himself?

  • Kayke

"some of the lyrics in his music resonated in my soul"

You're so right. Im not a fan of his music per se, but you could hear his pain in his lyrics. He needed someone in his corner.

  • Roxie Moxie

    Exactly! Good day!

  • Quitedeliteful

Thank you. I am definitely going to research this.

  • BEANTOWN BULLI

Well he right!! If you want me to be honest befor i found out it was XXX i thought it was Takashi 69.

  • ???TheRider???

Drake was not raised by a wealthy white family. His mom struggled because Dennis left the family. The money didn't start coming in until Drake was on Degrassi.

  • Prettybrowneound35

They may be from the gutter, but definitely not from gang culture. There are a lot of kids who get their perception of gangs from rappers and tv. They are imitators. My uncle (rip) was a killer. We didn’t know this until AFTER he died. He kept that lifestyle away from us. He was not out in the open about his ways...but people knew not to mess with him or us. REAL gangstas move quietly. These kids are finding out today.

  • Readytochokemothernatureout

I don't know anything about these new fangled rappers but nobody should be killing anybody unless it's self defense. The murders of all these young men in Cleveland seemingly daily is heartbreaking.

  • Miss Thang

is this the lil boy that raps the "Gucci Gucci" song? I'm 32. I can't keep up no mo'.

  • Kemi

He needs to do better, as to not proclaim dying young as his destiny. He’s still alive and have a chance to change his life around..

I agree with the weaker part, but wisdom is the PROPER application of knowledge. They don't do that. They use the excuse that times have changed to make it ok to do the foolishness that isn't/didn't work for these slain or jailed rappers. Or a "Kanye said or did..." But Kanye DOES have a limit and will fall back. These Skittle-haired, weaklings don't but they want to test the real OGs... Sad to see a young person lose their life, but they are going to have to start listening to real wisdom instead of the fake mess on Social Media
