Serena Williams and daughter Alexis Olympia

Serena William's infant daughter Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. turns 1 on Saturday, but Serena and her husband Alexis Ohanian aren't planning to celebrate with a birthday cake and gifts.

At a press conference ahead of the U.S. Open last weekend, Serena explained why she and her husband won't mark their baby's 1st birthday with a lavish party.

“Olympia doesn't celebrate birthdays," said Williams. "We're Jehovah's Witnesses, so we don’t do that," she said.

Jehovah's Witnesses are Christians who don't celebrate birthdays or Christmas because they believe holidays have pagan origins. They also don't believe in accepting gifts that celebrate holidays.

Other famous Jehovah's Witnesses in Black history include Serena's sister Venus Williams, and the late musicians Michael Jackson, Selena Quintanilla Pérez and Prince.

Michael eventually dissociated himself from the Jehovah's Witnesses because they disapproved of his music, particularly "Thriller" with its supernatural theme.

They just have a get together "just because" or when she gets older give her gift a couple days or weeks after her birthday?

  • Kimocha

Her baby is Adorable... I still wonder about her and that husband of hers... She looks like she wears the pants in the relationship... lol

  • FukkFolks2018

So Alexis converted to JW or was he already one?

  • Bri

    Converted.

  • Bdot

You know how Jehova's witnesses do... they'll have a big cookout the day after Thanksgiving, "just because" lol. To each his own.

  • Tiff J

I can understand not celebrating other holidays, but your b-day is a real thing. At least you save money by not having to buy gifts.

  • WhoKnew

Alexis Olympia is definitely a cutie pie.

I usually don't watch any form of reality tv but I was channel surfing a couple a months ago and came across her show "Being Serena". I did not know she had a reality show. So I decided to watch it since it was only 30 minutes long. On this particular episode she was discussing her relationship with her husband and how they only see each other on the weekends because he lives in San Francisco during the week. Then the conversation changed to her daughter and how much she love her and she was asked why she doesn't allow the baby to stay with Alexis during the week when she travels and she said oh no. That will never happen. Then she got this look in her eye and started to say if things did not work out between the two of them that he would never get her child. Then she caught herself and changed subjects. So piggybacking on @kimocha who said she wonders about Serena and her husband, I, too, think something's off. This might be an arranged marriage.

  • Li-Wright

What??? Serena is Jehovah? What about her husband?

  • Coco Mcluvin

    That baby is so cute...

  • Solstice

? mmm yeah…I already knew the Williams sisters were Witnesses. The Jackson’s and Prince too.…Btw today is the late Michael Jackson’s Birthday ??? I read somewhere the reason Prince didn’t get his hips replaced is because of the actual surgery. JW don’t believe in blood transfusions and hip surgery can be quite bloody. (I know because I need one) So that’s why Prince just continued on the pain pills.

  • WhoKnew

Good question. My son is baptist and his girlfriend is a Jehovah Witness. So when they passed their 1 year mark, I asked him was he going to convert to being a Jehovah Witness. He said and I quote. "Hell no. I'm not knocking on nobody's door and hiding in the bushes waiting for people to come out their house". He said she is just going to have to change her religion. Two years later she is still a practicing Jehovah Witness and he has visited the Kingdom Hall where she attends on a few occasions but she has never been to his church.

  • DaughterOfaQueen

    Ok

  • FukkFolks2018

I am all for the JW folks. Some in my family. I married into a fam where my former in laws were practicing JW's, but my ex-husand and all but 1 of the six children total had left. But as with many faiths they tend to pick and choose what they celebrate, and which parts of the religion they practice, Bc I am sitting up here trying to figure out which part of the game/religion it was when Serena popped up pregant prior to them getting married and lil lady up there was AT the wedding. But kudos to them and Hallelujah anyhow.

  • Mmm…Okay

The baby is cute aaaannnd I want to brush Serena's eyebrows, unkept eyebrows weird pet peeve I know.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

chile why is this bs news .. Who gives af ??? ugh

  • iWasteTime

    Listen sis.
Was at a cookout and had to ask dude what part of his faith said no BDays and Holidays but yes to Henny Punch and Tequila shots ...

  • FukkFolks2018

They wont go to anyone's church. That is against the religion too. My in laws didnt even come to our reception (we got married at courhouse and had a big reception the next day) bc it wasnt in a church, but there was a religious aspect to it as my aunt and uncle did a blessing and prayers. But if other religious aspects are present they dont attend under any circumstances.

  • FukkFolks2018

They drink but dont believe in getting drunk. Drink in moderation. Supposedly allegedly. Girl I personally cant. But again kudos to those who do.

  • MJF

    LOL

  • Phillybruh

They do close down a bar...lol That's like my brother and sister n law...The Christmas Muslims...They follow everything else but they do throw a good Christmas party...lol

  • the guest

    Speak.

  • the guest

    LOL

  • Solstice

Yes ma’am. My Auntie is a Witness. When my uncle died she attended the funeral at his church but other than that, nope. She only goes to the Kingdom Hall.

  • free

teavana! i think he is in love with her though. that "thang" got him whipped.

  • WhoKnew

Huh, interesting. I did not know that. The old saying you learn something new every day is still true.

  • WhoKnew

Yep, I think he loves her and is slave "p" whipped. I don't think she is into him the same way but who knows. Her religion may be why she never shows PDA with him.

  • the guest

Not arranged. Serena is just wealthier and in control. I do believe her husband is in love with her and in love with idea of her being an icon and that Serena just wanted a husband and a baby.

  • FukkFolks2018

My mother studied with the JWs for YEARS. She tried to pull the no holidays, no Christmas and my daddy RIP, God bless him, was like you do YOU. But my kids doing Christmas and I will be over here to give them their stuff, and pick them up for Christmas Eve service. LIKE NORMAL. Have my girls ready and good day to you ma'am.

  • Solstice

Lmao ? I hear you! Daddy was NOT having it! ?

  • FukkFolks2018

He was like what am I supposed to tell my MAMA? That she cant send these kids their Christmas stuff? You call your mother in law and tell her that and then let me know how that turns out. He was so mad. I will never forget it lol.

  • friendofblog

Nah, a brush ain’t gonna get it for that pubic hair. That’s a job for a no lye.

  • hottlanta

It is kind of refreshing bcas l am sick of these over the top parties for a 1 year old. Tired of a 1 year old party with ice sculptures horses and a 500.00 cake. Folks trying 2 outdo each other just 2 put pictures on facebook. When fakedrea from housewives gave her son that stupid party l just shook my head.

  • WhoKnew

Yeah, age probably played a factor in that.

  • Queen B

Im celebrating every holiday fawk that!!

  • Guest©

I'm going to celebrate his bday tonight at a MJ party!! LOVE some MJ!!

  • Solstice
  • Soda

I wish I had thick brows like hers. The first thing I do after washing my face in the morning is fill in my thin eyebrows, even if I have no plans to leave the house. ?

  • Alextra Ballard

F irst and foremost I'm pretty sure her baby is not lackin gifts. She probably buys things throughout the year. Olympia is a baby, she ain gon miss shidt. Secondly, Serena have this baby out of wedlock you mean she is still a JW? To them she committed a sin and is no longer a Jw.

  • SpillyNillie

LOOK HERE! This damn gif has ruined my eyeliner and softened my eyelash glue...DAMN YOU!!!

  • Alextra Ballard

    Crack'n up!!! Eye c yew start'n early! ! !

  • FukkFolks2018

Girl I just looked and Serena been out here celebrating other folks birthday (they not suppoesd to celebrate ANY birthdays), dressed up for Halloween and done dressed this same baby above up for Halloween. God bless her and Alexis and their choices for their own kid. I am hushing.

  • Faithz

    Cute baby girl.

  • SpillyNillie

Alexis is such a cutie! Besides, these 1 yr old babies won't remember a damn thing about their circus theme party complete with elephant rides, camel toes, zebra cakes, and a Michael Jackson impersonator. They just WON'T!

  • Faithz

  • Renee Bee

Not my baybay. Not my coins. Do you Serena.

  • dru and neil

That was the first thing I thought of. Have I not seen Serena Williams with the Kardashians and Ciara and others in the Hollywood crowd, celebrating birthdays?

  • Soda

Even worse is being invited to a place where a theme party is held and finding that you have to pay an entrance fee! My family is good for doing that. Got one coming up at a water park. Had a party at Chuck E. Cheese last time, discovered the pizza & pitchers of soda were for the kids but the adults had to buy their own! What, and you expect me to bring a gift too?

  • Alextra Ballard

Ain no telling what Serena gonna do behind closed doors!!

  • Kanyade

their practice and belief. i didn't realize her husband had converted. or that she was a still-practicing witness. baby girl is such a cutie.

  • Solstice

Lol!! Nah,I promise to be good today. ? ?

  • Darkandlovely617?

I would have loved to have seen that conversation live, I’d probably laugh harder than I am now

  • Allergic2dumbstuff

I worked with some JW. They loved a paaarty and didn't mind drinking you under the table. lol

  • Solstice

?? My bad!! I promise to be good today. ?

  • dru and neil

I went to an engagement party once, had a single slice of pizza that was laid out on the buffet and got a phone call later in the evening about how I didn’t pay the 20.00 fee to eat. Never had I been to an engagement, birthday, shower where guests had to pay for the food laid out so I wasn’t trying to “cheat” anybody, I just didn’t know!

  • Coy little wink

My aunt was a raised Baptist...flipped Jehovah witness...flipped back to Baptist...then back to JW. I specifically didn't invite her to my bday party last year but she showed up anyway. I was like but aren't you...nevermind.

    Serena's eyebrows irritate me ?

  • Solstice

That sounds like a lot of fun!!

  • Blaque Mahogany

    Okay...

I guess Jehovah Witnesses are technically Christians because they believe Jesus is the son of God but umm there are some stark differences between what they believe and what I believe.

  • Solstice
  • Soda

Lol! Sounds like they had food monitors!

  • OvertheMississippi

It's US Open time. Gotta say something about something. Last tourny it was being a hero for all moms. Serena is getting on my bad side.

  • Solstice

lol nah, I promise to be good today! ???

  • Tlowe89

    ?

  • Applebum

If Serena baby wasn’t biracial she wouldn’t be getting this much coverage. I say this because before the baby I was shocked that she only had 2 millions followers, she’s one of the greatest athletes and her following was at 2 millions for a very long time. Others who are not great had 10x more followers. She wasn’t desirable to most, now all of a sudden she is. Imagined if she didn’t have a biracial baby, oh man they would have been tearing her and the baby down on the daily. Social media welcomes the trashing of black women and black kids. The trolling is even worse, it is so bad reading the comments. The black women and black babies get the less likes. The more African you look, the less comments and likes. Things have changed tremendously.

  • dru and neil

Well somebody was watching because I wasn’t even gone ten minutes before I was notified to turn back around and run them their 20.00 for that slice of pizza.

  • MJ

Speaking as an ex witness(I left the organization many years ago, but used to be an auxiliary pioneer, which means i had to dedicate at least 60 hours a month to field service—knocking on doors and witnessing other places) they do consider themselves Christians and they truly follow scripture in their daily lives—the ones that REALLY are practicing witnesses bc a lot of people claim a thing but rly are not that thing—ain’t no way you’re a JW for real and you having sex out of marriage ..in open view. If you’re caught(as in pregnancy or living with someone) you will be disfellowshiped. Period and end of story. They believe Jesus is God’s Son and was sent to die for our sins, but they don’t believe in the trinity which teaches that God and Jesus are the very same person. They believe Jesus is the Son and He acquiesces to the will of Almighty God Jehovah.
Serious witnesses don’t do birthdays, holidays, gift giving or receiving(connected to birthdays or holidays) voting or any involvement in politics.

  • Applebum

??? Wow. That must be a down south thing?

your son is hilarious! "hiding in the bushes" LOL!!!!

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

That child makes Serena look like a surrogate.
She doesn't look one damn thing like her mom so I guess she was named correctly.

that baby is beyond adorable, and her lil outfit is everything.
(folks' religion is their's to practice as they see fit *yawn*)

  • pecancandy

She is 1 already, too cute!

  • TOO REAL

Not understanding - all of these people have been in the hospital for one reason or another for surgeries and so forth where they had to have blood which is against Jehovah’s Witnesses beliefs. So do they decide which part of the religion that they will follow?

  • dru and neil

They were just nowhere near as classy and progressive as I thought they were. They basically didn’t have the money for real engagement party. There’s no way guests should have been charged for the catering.

  • Whiplash(lacejagger)

This incorrect. That’s a personal preference. Although I’m not a practicing Witness, I was raised in the Truth... and your statement is inaccurate.

  • Blaque Mahogany

I think they kinda look a like.

  • Jordan’s Memory

She definitely looks just like her dad.

  • Jordan’s Memory

I agree. Social media tore those sisters apart for years and I can't imagine the things they would have said about her if she had a black child. Look at what they did to poor Blue Ivy for years. smdh

  • ?Patty Kakes?

Don't deprive that child of celebrating her birthday, Easter and Christmas. That's the best part of growing up as a child. What upsets me the most is Serena and her husband both had the opportunity to experience those holidays, and I think every kid should

  • FukkFolks2018

No competitive sports either was my understanding. So her playing tennis is...within the confines or no?

  • FukkFolks2018

Yes. YOU HAVE. I done seen the same.

  • Liah

She’s beautiful!...Who am I to judge...I’ll leave that to God....

  • FukkFolks2018

    I stand corrected then.

  • Bashi22

Serena Williams what about fornication before marriage you had quite a few guys ..hmmm

  • Karen Brady

Her child. Her choice. Cutie patootie.

  • Karen Brady

    :-)

  • Karen Brady

If your auntie don't sit down somewhere.

  • FukkFolks2018

My dad hardly ever stood up to either wife lol. Original/my mom or number 2. But he would let them know what it was over his kids. You not about to make a decision that impacts his kids without consulting him. And he wasnt gonna just do it bc SHE SAID. Nope. She had our asses ready too lol.

  • Trace da Ace

her business.....I know a few Jehovah witness....and they don't celebrate that stuff either....and plus she is 1 year old....she wont remember it anyways....I get a kick out of parents throwing lavish expensive ass birthday parties.....when all the baby wants is to mess in the cake....also her baby is sooooo cute!!!

ps... I remember when I worked in the NICU and a woman gave birth and had to have a blood transfusion but because of her religion (Jehovah?) she refused...and died hours later....I thought that was so tragic because she did not even get to spend time with her newborn baby...

  • Trace da Ace

    damn...the wig tho....LMAO!!!

  • Trace da Ace

    OHHHH....Henny Punch...damn I want a drink now...lol

  • Logan Roberts

Serena do what's best for your family ?

  • Mrs. S. Kidd

Serena should not have used religion as an excuse. Just say "we ain't celebrating her birthday because she's 1-year's old and she won't remember the ish anyways" https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/01531eec1069ccce82ce6446aa8d772c55d0caefcdc97233ed12bf89c8a8baff.gif

  • justlooking

    Virgos in the house.

    9/2

  • Dee Dup

Serena grew up a Jehovah witness so she actually didn't celebrate those holidays

  • Renee26

    Cutie pie

I wonder if she was a Jehovah's witness when she was fornicating with Drake...the congregation would have disfellowshipped her for sure knowing he was busting it down without them being married

  • ?Patty Kakes?

Well I'm sure her husband did and knows how great it is to experience those holidays

  • Look@m3

    Shetup!!!!!! 9/2 here too boo!!!

  • Look@m3

    Thank you and Thank you!!!!

  • Renee26

She just looks like a lighter verion of her mommy to me... She has her eyes, eyebrows, and nose

  • Renee26

    Lol no that's a rumor

  • MsPam

Serena practice the beliefs of Jehovah Witnesses because her mother is a baptized JW. I doubt that Serena is baptized, because if she was she would of gotten disfellowshiped form the congregation by getting pregnant before she was married. It’s just like the Jackson, they practiced as a kids but never got baptized except Rebbie.

  • Nicolep

But it was okay for her to have pre-marital sex but celebrating the day of the birth of a child that you almost died birthing is an offense to your religion. And I aint shitting on nobody's religion but be consistent.. It's easy to shun your birthday when you have Serena's life but giving up that dick aint quite as easy.. #byeSerena

  • MJ

    Professional sports
are ok..there’s other professional athletes that are JW..as long as you are ‘set apart’ from worldliness which Sarena (love her) but she super worldly..That’s why I side eye the mess out of her JW claims. Plus most important you never hear her witnessing in any way.. that’s the number one mission of JW is to be ministers of God’s Word. She has a huge platform and to never speak on her beliefs??

  • MsPam

If Prince was distancing myself from the JW why did they have a memorial service for him at the Kingdom Hall when he died?! Janet was NEVER BAPTIZED as Jehovah Witness. You just can’t be a JW unless you’re baptized it a requirement.

  • MsPam

No, you follow ALL the beliefs not the ones that are convenient for you. Jehovah Witness are very strict.

  • MsPam

No is not a rumor, it’s true.

  • MsPam

You’re right about not participating in competitive sports.

  • MsPam

He can’t convert when his wife is not a baptized Jehovah Witness.

  • Sojourner’s Truth

    I concur.

  • MMS69

Jehovah Witnesses are not Christians. They do not believe Jesus Christ is the son of God nor to they believe in the trinity which is what Christians believe.

  • Malai

    Mannnnnnnnnnnnnnn ?

  • Sojourner’s Truth

Don't be petty. You are design for greatness.

  • Ebony Starr

Good, so can go on win US OPEN without any guilt about missing Olympia 1st birthday!

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Jehovah's Witnesses believe that God's Kingdom is a literal government in heaven, ruled by Jesus Christ and 144,000 "spirit-anointed" Christians drawn from the earth, which they associate with Jesus' reference to a "new covenant". They all belong to the traditional and accepted Christian faith. Since their arrival on the world religion scene in the 1800.

They reject the trinity which is a main component of Christianity.

They will both lose and everyone knows it

When the Po white boy take her money money in divorce court wonder what y’all going to say

  • Nik

They consider themselves Christians, but for the reason you stated fundamentalists/evangelicals deem them a cult or heretical group. They also believe Jesus is the son of God but not God incarnate.

  • ChocolateChick84

There is nothing poor about Alexis.

  • Vegas1989

Congratulations!! I hope I'm next....I need a yard for my future big puppy dog.....Plus hubby needs the pool and BBQ area..He likes to cook...I need that walkin closet...I need to stop buying shoes....LOL..But I'm buying these two pair once they put that 30% off coupon code....LOL...I wish I can have them delivered on the job. Hubby beats me home now and I get busted...LOL

  • ChocolateChick84

I promise I say this about most "Christians". Quick to tell you about not going out, smoking, drinking, etc. and have 3 & 4 kids out of wedlock. They can give up EVERYTHING but the D. Chile cheese....

  • Pnthr

Serena is a Jehovah Witness when convenient. Wasn't this child born out of wedlock? That's sad to deprive children of small joys like birthdays.

  • Vegas1989

That is so sad. My cousin are JW...but they do celebrate eating up all food and taking about 10 plates of leftovers and telling us Merry Christmas Cuz....And believe me...I be side eyeing him...SMH...they are greedy. At our grandmother funereal they were the only ones that took home plates....SMH...People brought food everyday...It was funny...And the sad thing is I didn't get no chocolate pie....SMH...And they was saying it was good. Yeah y'all at and took it all...

  • Connie

I was trying to find a respectful way to describe my feelings about those brows....you nailed it, thanks

  • MsPam

Yes anybody can do those things but until you’re baptized you can’t fully be a JW. Again if his congregation thought he was distancing himself, they wouldn’t have been a memorial for him. Prince was doing the wrong thing when he died.

  • DPM

I seriously doubt he converted. You would have heard about his baptism through the JW rumor-mil. Serena may be dedicated but she is not a baptized witness. Her mother is, so this is the religion of her childhood.

She does what she wants to, when she wants to, with whom she wants and then goes: Hey I am a JW in certain situations!

  • DPM

They do believe Jesus is the son of God and follow in the footsteps of Jesus teachings. They choose not to ascribe to the Trinity belief. There beliefs are steeped in Christianity.

  • datjerk

Google him. He's not hurting for money.

  • datjerk

    I do what I can.

  • MsPam

????@ Sassy Sis who do you think you are?! Stop talking about things you don’t know about. Just because you’re a flunky to celebrities don’t mean you’re a celebrity.

  • Renee26

Why isn't she disfellowshipped then? I've never heard of them having issues with an occupation that doesn't involve sinning...

  • DPM

I have always thought it was interesting how the org would "crucify" a baptized person, but when an unbaptized person, especially a celeb who is JW pulls all the stuff that Serena does, they don't speak on it or distance themselves.
Oh! But don't get DFd! LOLOL!

  • Dahl

Belief in CHRIST is the foundation of CHRISTianity, hence the name. The trinity is not the main component of true Christianity

  • RentEmSpoons

Interesting fact : There is no verse in the bible that mentions trinity.

Also, there is no verse in the Bible about shacking up with a woman.

  • MJ

They absolutely believe that Jesus is God’s son. You’re misinformed

  • MJ

    Right..

  • Mr. Poopybutthole

That man sir is far from poor.....

  • MJ

They don’t speak on it bc if you’re not a baptized, active JW what you do doesn’t concern them. You can only be held accountable if you’re baptized or in the process of becoming baptized.

  • MJ

It was 20 years ago that I was a JW so maybe that has changed but i knew of professional atheletes that were active witnesses. Now I remember that you couldn’t be a boxer but that was it.

  • Coco_Butter

Girl those JW’s are hypocrites just like other people from other religions.

I have family members that are JWs and got kids out wedlock. They ban them for a while then let them back in

  • Mr. Poopybutthole

That's her family and certainly their choice.

  • Tee Bullock

Yes maam they are Christians and believe Jesus is the son of god, please talk to one I know several! Read the encyclopedia as well it's even in their all holidays are PAGAN.

  • iWasteTime

I guess you have to keep sooooooooome things! lololol

  • Toni Toni Toni

Chile, Mine too. Lawd. It makes me wanna grab my spoolie and Smooth them out for her. Fill her brows in a bit.
    Sigh

  • Diane

Took the words right out of my mouth

  • Diane

Yet, Jehovah Witnesses don't believe in 3/4 of the things she has done in her life. The only reason she has not been "dis -fellowed" is because the JW's want her money.

  • Judge Mental Will

So the child never gonna gonna have a Birthday party. To each its own. I don't care who she is, but she better not knock on my door 7 in the morning on Saturday trying to convert me. Jehovah Witnesses aggravating. Why do religious people only practice was they want to from the bible? The way she danced in Beyonce video.. Never mind...

  • KcoolMuziq

Serena dated but didn't have sex with Drake,Common,Amar'e Stoudemire,Hosea Chanchez.Colin Farrell,
Brett Ratner,Jackie Long(My favorite and whom I spotted in my building) Keyshawn Johnson,
    Columbus Short,Corey Maggette,
LaVar Arrington, just to name a few.

  • MsPam

She was never disfellowshiped because she has never baptized. Competitive sports take away your time from serving Jehovah. Going door to door ( field service) giving in home bible studies, conventions , preaching the word etc.

  • Renee26

    Interesting

  • Miss Thang

I thought Michael was disfellowshipped even though he apologized to the Jehovah Witness church for Thriller.

  • Renee26

Well damn...you put her whole resume out there lol

The way her and Drake was kissing out in public at the resturant table (foreplay) and his fancy for large rumps leads me to believe otherwise...for him anyway

  • Miss Thang

well, carnal desires are difficult to tame. After all, we are HUMAN and need intimate affection.

  • Connie

I agree with everything you said, but I think folks don't like Serena's hypocritical argument, using JW as an excuse when she's been known to celebrate bdays with her celeb frens

  • TheOwley

There has always been a debate about their denomination and if it is one under Christianity like Methodists, Baptists, etc. JW are 100% in the contrarian position of the holy trinity which binds all Christians. They believe Jesus Christ is the archangel Michael and thus do not acknowledge Easter, Good Friday, or Christmas. They follow their own literature and if they look into the Bible it would certainly not include the New Testament.

They believe in God but not Christianity. They considered themselves a restoration of first-century Christianity (no clue what this means), so Christianity on their terms with all those restrictions, not the current dogma of Christianity in general. I believe this is one of the reasons they are turned away by Christians (the don't know on my door thing).

  • TheOwley

Who is Christ? He came from (....) is the Son of (....). God the Father, God the Son, and the Holy Spirit; each person itself being God. All Christians accept this very basic premise. The do not. Anything Christ is omitted from their dogma. So what are they first.

Yes they are Jehovah beleivers but not anything to do with Christ. Believers in God and that's it.

  • Connie

This! I worked a job where clients give the staff xmas gifts. I got in an argument with a coworker who was staunch JW, because she was always jockeying for the xmas gifts. Me and others were like how you don't want to participate in our weekly devotions, but always accepting xmas and bday gifts and eating and dancing at our quarterly birthday club parties? Pissed us off no ends!

  • TheOwley

If you look at their basic dogma, they are not Christians. That doesn't mean they don't believe in God, they do believe in God but call God Jehovah. The Christ to them is not what the Christ is Christians in general. Their beliefs is why they are rejected when they know on the door. If they don't believe God sent his son to save us from our sins, that's fine, but they cannot call themselves Christians of some other denomination unless they want to redefine Christianity to what they believe.

Actually Witnesses do believe in Jesus Christ as God's son and that he is the Messiah and was sent to give his life for us. Many mistakenly think otherwise. Yes Jehovah has been identified as God's name (YHWH) in the original manuscripts but has been removed from some Bible translations. A Christian is someone who believes in the teachings of Jesus an Witnesses do believe that

  • Doink_Ahanahue

Christianity is based on the teachings of CHrist (or should be) however many man made doctrines have become traditionally accepted as real even though there is no Biblical support. One such doctrine is the trinity. A thorough reading of the bible will refute that with no extra explanation necessary.

  • Doink_Ahanahue

Jehovah's Witnesses believe in Christ as God's son. Here are some answers to your very thoughts from their official website:

Very true. I’m not a witness anymore because searching scripture myself, I find their doctrine on some major issues to be in error, but still it’s always surprising how many misconceptions there are out there about them. To their credit they are FAR more abiding in the Bible than a vast majority of professing Christians. Like for real. They study the Bible and actually hold members accountable to live in obedience to Gods Word. More than can be said for many churches.

  • TheOwley

Matthew 28:19: Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. the Bible refers to this quite a bit.

In reference to the trinity, it's an interpretation of God as each of the three entities. The JW organization has changed some of their dogma over time. At one time Jesus was a mere archangel and note the Savior. . They didn't take vaccines and then changed that otherwise they would have had to disfellowship everyone. I don't keep up with them but whatever.

Well Drake still sniffs around her. So U may have a point.?

  • the guest

Truth is they are celebrating their child’s birth every single day as they spoil her rotten with gifts every single day. Which is a beautiful thing. But to act like they are humble before the lord by not celebrating “pagan” holidays is a tad hypocritical.

  • the guest

I just had to laugh. The irony and hypocrisy is quite amusing.

  • Bri

She said he converted in the full article. Smh.

No I'm not. I've talked to JW's and we agree to disagree.

Beautiful little girl, but she should not put beads around her neck. Babies tend to pull on them and can cause harm to themselves. Can be pinned to her clothes, but not around her neck.

That is an amber necklace used to alleviate teething pain and decrease drooling associated with teething. The size/fit is selected with the risks you mentioned in mind.

Your statement is fallacious, as Jehovah’s Witnesses absolutely do believe in Jesus Christ and follow his teachings. However, I don’t feel this is the appropriate forum for a discussion on religious beliefs. I wish you a good evening.

  • TheOwley

Coward. Throw stones then run off like a little beotch. It's not me, it's their ever changing dogma. Look it up. They believe themselves to be the true believers. That right there puts them on that special little island like that other religion of so called peace that believed themselves to be "the ones." And no, I do not wish you a good eventing, that would be "a fallacy."

  • Dahl

I’m not running, I simply pointed out your mistake, then said I don’t think this is a proper forum to discuss religion. Their belief in Jesus has been consistant, I have researched it and so of this I’m certain. I am on SR as entertainment only, not to discuss religious ideology. If my statement offended you in any way, I apologize. However, I do sincerely wish you a good evening, not facetiously at all.

  • TheOwley

People do that to have the last word, have a nice day. I admit I find it a bit annoying, no debate so off they go. But really, I am not being anti-JW. It's not my narrative about this particular dogma, it's what they have published themselves for decades. They have changed their views on Christ because it made them look "not Christian." I have family in this. They have isolated themselves because of our practices, Christmas, birthdays, etc. I'm weary of religions with such extremes. But you are right, SR is great for levity. Like my mom said, avoid sex, politics, and religion talk in public. It leads to anywhere. She was right.

"At one time Jesus was a mere archangel and note the Savior. . They didn't take vaccines and then changed that otherwise they would have had to disfellowship everyone. I don't keep up with them but whatever."

Matt 28:19, 20 as well as 24:14 are two of the scriptures that have Witnesses out in the ministry in various forms. As for Jesus, if you've read the Bible (and I'm assuming you have) Michael the Archangel (nothing "mere" about him) was Jesus' name and position BEFORE being sent to Earth. The Trinity is a doctrine that (if you research it's origin) is not based on or from any part of Christianity, nor is it supported in the Bible

As for vaccines and medicines/treatments - Witnesses have always gone to regular Medical Doctors, always vaccinated children too. There are certain treatments (based on scripture) that most CHOOSE not to accept. One being the use of blood transfusions.
Witnesses not accepting them and Doctors willing to research how to work around it has assisted in advanced bloodless medical treatment/surgery options for all patients. Bloodless surgeries have quicker recovery times, fewer complications and thus shorter hospital stays required.

  • TheOwley

It's been a while on this. I think the concept of the trinity is manmade but based on the three entities in the Bible. It refers to nothing else. Too much has been made that the word does not appear on the Bible. Perhaps people should say F, S, HG instead of referencing that as a trinity.

While the Bible has given references of Heaven and Hell, none of us can conjure in our minds what that really is as viewed with your own eyes. Yet we don't question what we haven't seen, nor can give a cogent as to what it is even though we have millions of ideas about them.
