Serena Williams relied on Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle after her stunning meltdown at the U.S. Open following her loss to Japan’s Naomi Osaka.

Williams, 37, said she and her friend, Meghan, turn to each other for solace and comfort during troubled times.

In a recent interview with an Australian TV show, Williams said of Markle, “We were actually just texting each other this morning. We have known each other for a long time, but we really are relying on each other a lot recently.”

Williams and Markle, 37, met at the 2010 Super Bowl in Miami. She was one of the lucky recipients of a coveted invitation from the former Suits actress, who married Britain’s Prince Harry in May.

Williams says she keeps in constant contact with the Duchess. She said she was proud to attend the Royal Wedding with her husband, Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian.

“To have such a monumental moment in England, nonetheless of all the places, I felt like we were literally watching history,” she told The Project.

“I feel like in a few years we are going to look back at that moment and it’s going to be so historic. It’s going to be something that people never forget. The whole service was really wonderful, and most of all I just wanted to see my friend be happy. And I think that’s what happened.”
