Sutton Tennyson

Angela Simmons is mourning her ex-fiancé Sutton Tennyson, who was shot and killed during an argument in an upscale Southwest Atlanta subdivision on Saturday, Nov. 3.

Witnesses tell police Tennyson, 37, was in his driveway talking to a man when an argument escalated and the man shot Tennyson multiple times in the head. The suspect fled the area in a car and is still at large.

Police arriving at the scene found Tennyson’s body on the floor in his garage.

Angela Simmons, the 31-year-old daughter of Run DMC’s Rev. Run, shared photos and videos in tribute to Tennyson on her Instagram page on Sunday, Nov. 4.

In the caption of a photo showing Tennyson holding their son, Sutton Joseph Tennyson, 2, the Growing Up Hip Hop star wrote, “Thank you for leaving behind my greatest gift . I’m hurting . I’m numb. Thank you for the out pouring of love everyone . I cant believe I’m even saying Rest In Peace Sutton . I promise to hold SJ down in every way I promise.”

Tennyson lived in the same subdivision as Atlanta’s current Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms and the previous mayor Kasim Reed. The subdivision has been plagued with escalating crime and violence in recent years.

Two years ago, police responded to a violent home invasion around the corner from Kasim Reed’s home.

The 24-hour presence of police outside the mayor’s home has not deterred crime in the subdivision, which was once home to mega wealthy preacher Creflo Dollar, as well as rappers and reality TV stars.

Reality TV star Porsha Williams, who once lived in the same neighborhood, was rushed to the hospital on Sunday complaining of extreme abdominal pain and lightheadedness.

Williams, 37, is pregnant with her fiancé Dennis McKinley’s baby. The Real Housewives of Atlanta star and her baby are reportedly doing fine. She is due to deliver her baby daughter in December.
