Open Post: 50 Cent Responds to Floyd Mayweather Jr Saying He Won’t Boycott Gucci

Floyd Mayweather Jr

50 Cent responded to champion boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr saying he would continue to shop at Gucci despite the uproar in the Black community over blackface allegations.

Outraged Twitter users retweeted images of the $900 black balaclava sweater from Gucci’s 2018 Fall/Winter collection.

Gucci sweater

Gucci apologized and removed the sweater from its retail and online stores.

In an interview with TMZ this week, Floyd said he is not a follower and he refuses to be told what to do by social media users who constantly call for boycotts over every perceived racial slight.

“See, the thing is this, I live for myself. I do what I want to do,” said Floyd. “I’m not a follower. You know when everybody else they say, ‘Everybody gonna boycott?’ I say guess what, this boy gonna get on a yacht and live life.”

50 Cent responded on Wednesday by posting a meme that shows the boxer wearing a mockup of the infamous Gucci sweater.

Fiddy captioned the image: “get the f*ck outta here Champ! LOL #bransoncognac #lecheminduroi #bellator”.

I’m on the fence. Half those ninja’s protesting will be back sporting Gucci in a few weeks. Gucci is a staple in their wardrobes. Do ya’ll really think they’ve destroyed or given away all their Gucci stuff?? Absolutely not. This is nothing more than fake outrage again. Like the RKelly mess. For damn near 25 years we’ve all known of his fetish for babies. Yet, after a documentary airs everyone that has used him wants to disconnect from him. FOH…. Jump on the bandwagon why don’t you. Only for the moment, their pissed. Not really sure if I agree wholeheartedly agree with Floyd, but it’s good he’s not a follower.

  • IyanlaVanzantoftheInterWebs
  • BingBangBoom

Looks correct to me.. Gucci used a white model but had an idea that blacks would wear it especially our black Hollywood just to prove a point. They tried to make black people look like fools.

I am so tired of these grown ass MEN sissy clawing on social media. The shit is SUSPECT. Period. And yes I am talking about these two and Chris and Offset and a few others. I dont see my uncles, my male cousins, or my own dude fussing, going back and forth with another MAN on social media. I just dont. A debate over a social or political issue is okay. This is far from a debate. Grow up and grow some hair on your nuts.

  • T Willis

Honestly, the African American market contributes very little to the brand. It’s a waste of outrage if you ask me. Barney’s didn’t give a sh*t when they were accused of discrimination, and I suspect Gucci feels the same way ?????.

I do love how militant and hard 50 goes for the ?? Movement ?

  • Fire & Ice

    WTH ???

Gucci is one of my favorite brands. I won’t lie, seeing the sweater did have me feeling some type of way. But I’ll be damned if I burn or give away any of my Gucci sh*t! Lol

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

So a black balaclava sweater with red lips is now “blackface”… and “racist”? Come on, people.

Let’s use common sense here. Not everything is racist. Unfortunately we’ve got too many of our people who want to look for and find “racism” in just about everything.

The American market PERIOD until 2017-2018, contributed, but not as much as European markets, to their brand. Its not for Americans and it sure as hell never was for black ones. It doesnt make it okay tho. But still. These are facts.

  • Soda

Lol! Same producers of Get Out.

  • Zeta Phi Beta 1920

This is. Look at old racist pictures. You don’t have to agree but do not mock others who do believe it it & you can look at pictures to understand why it is considered racist.

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

    You ain’t never lied.
These are two pettiest males on the planet and their ‘relationship’ is very suspect. Like two scorned lovers.

  • Yoni7

    LMAOOOO THIS GIF!

  • T Willis

A lot of men do that though. The type of relationship that they have with mama determines the treatment they’ll have for the kid. It’s hard to counter the mental manipulation that most baby moms have on the kid. 50 said Shaniqua brainwashed his son against him, and it shows by the way his son reacts to what both parents say about each other online.

I do agree that no man should allow those emotions to affect their relationship with the child, but sometimes it’s easier said than done. A lot of these baby mamas are a straight disrespectful and bitter. If you don’t do what they want (a relationship etc) they use their only link to the guy – the child – and try to project their hatred and anger towards the baby daddy to the child. It’s just hard to counter that, and I think 50 has given up on trying to counter it. Plus marquis is an adult now so ?????

Stop the madness please. Stop looking for someone 2 b a role model who cant even read. Some people need 2 b left alone.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

Yes, I understand how it could be considered racist. But I still stand by what I said. Not mocking anyone…

My point is if somebody has a mindset to see racism here there and everywhere (and we all know there are some black folk like that), you can see a lot of stuff as being “racist” even though there was no racist intent.

  • Renee26

Ol boy summed it up…. 50 stay on Floyd top. I think he has a crush on him

  • Dr. P

I have my Gucci bag with me today. T.I. is an attention whore, ain’t telling me what to wear. If this sweater only came in black, I’d give it a mean side eye. It came in many other colors. I’d love for the IRS to boycott T.I.’s music until they get their money he refuses to pay. Fake woke azz. boycott for three whole days and be done. FOH.

  • whereisginger

My man just got me a Gu cci bag for love day as he is not up on trending topics in social media because he’s a family man with a job. My spoiled ass however has time and I will be wearing my bag… when this blows over of course. We all know boyFloyd is dumb and his opinion is worth pennies however, 50 can shut up with his hypocrisy. Boycott your ego and CALL YOUR SON. Tell these celebs to bring it all out their closets and burn it all on the gram… and what will gucciclone do… and where is kjellys sister…. I blame her for alllll this..

  • T Willis

No, it doesn’t make it ok – but it’s not really worth more than 1 post. It happened, black ppl don’t make a significant contribution (unlike the weave industry), the brand acknowledged fault and removed the item ????? The fawk else is left to discuss? Lmao

  • hi-liter

    50 is a bitch azz nigga…..PERIODTT!

  • The Art

But what brand wants that type of negativity attached to their name? African Americans are way more influential than you think, which is the problem; our people don’t know their power.

Also, Barney’s settled and ended up paying that kid over half a million dollars for racially discriminating against him. The outcry from that incident forced other big name retailers to adjust their loss prevention practices to not racially discriminate.

  • Yoni7

ME either…..and I didn’t even watch the trailer. It said “horror” and I scrolled right on past.

  • Kayke

    Floyd is a Phookboi.
He has nothing about him outside of his boxing abilities. He is illiterate and abusive. He dislike himself enough to not educate himself …. I didn’t expect him to care about us.

  • the guest

The luxury brands and retailers don’t care about the African American market. They will however allow African American entertainers to be used for free promotion and press.

They’re even profiting from this boycott.

At the helm of the luxury brands and retailers are racists who are amused by the boycott, consider the boycott free promotion, and are glad to lose black customers because they are profiting from the disassociation.

The boycott builds their profits with markets that want those brands disassociated from African Americans. Meaning they are gaining racist buyers who have been expressing for years dismay at diversity of luxury brand customer base.

They made that blackface sweater on purpose: To drive black customers away to appease fashion racists who want the brand disassociated with black people. There’s no way the design was an oversight.

  • Topic Influencer

Not worth all of this I agree.

  • Topic Influencer

WAIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIT. This sweater was sold in other colors? I looked and thought only in black.

    What the hell?

  • Topic Influencer

I am now a tad lost. Someone above said it was sold in other colors. If its sold in orange what kind of racist message is THAT? Or white?

  • Dr. P

Coupled with the fact there were other colors too. If it only came in black, maybe, possibly, but this shyt was a ignant azz reach

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

Yes, I get that. And I can see how Gucci could have realized afterward it was offensive and so they decided to remove the product. I’m just saying that just because something ends up being racially offensive doesn’t mean there was necessarily racist intent.

  • Kayke

The amount of hands this article of clothing had to go through to be passed for consumption and no one in Gucci’s assembly line had an inkling that this might happen and at the very least, used different colors. I personally don’t care of it can be argued against ….. I’m tired of the microagressions that even our people allow to pass. Black people can continue to give Gucci their money…. just know that not even a hint of our struggle is considered by them. That’s is all.

  • T Willis

Oh, absolutely! That’s why I don’t understand why we’re giving so much attention to it – or evening mentioning the word “boycott” lol. Boycott means that the business will actually be negatively affected – and we both know these brands are racists and couldn’t care less.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

    Chile lololololol

  • JV

Whomever designed the sweater knew what they were doing. I made the caricature connection the second I saw it. (Before I even saw the headline I though to myself, “Wow, that’s racist.”) Ultimately, the buck stops with the company, so if the designer *they hired* does not reflect the company, then they must make it known. “Oops, we removed it!” isn’t cutting it.

And it’s not like they give their designers free reign to do whatever. High fashion is going to be vetted TO DEATH before it hits the market. Gucci should be held responsible.

  • Navybeans95

That should never matter…especially when the child is old enough to have his own personal cell phone for him to keep in touch…or visitation rights…

1.) I don’t believe they had no idea.
2.) Ignorance is not an excuse anyway.

  • MsSapphire9800

This is why I make my own decision…why they did not say it came and other colors… black is a neutral color….so it really wasn’t about black face.

  • Ni Ni

Exactly! Sometimes, we jump the gun too quick.

  • JV

I wouldn’t say that image is racist, that you just posted. The red Sambo lips, combined with the black, to me, made it clear what the intent was. That other patterns/color schemes were also present just tells me the designer was trying to make their racism less obvious.

IDC, what he and the mom have been through, vicious jabs exchanged, on either part, his PUBLIC loathing of his oldest son is soooo low!

Karma will be a close and constant companion of his, and misery his best friend!

We never rally around the impediments in our communities. It’s always a boycott when the entity is an outsider. It’s like we’re stuck in a civil rights loop. We can’t see or identify any ailments in our community after circa 1965 lol.

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

    Agree

  • Mz_Opinionated

NOOO!!!! LOL! I was not ready.

  • T Willis

I don’t understand, what outcome are you expecting? Is this about Gucci or something else?

Like I said previously, there’s no outrage necessary. The Gucci brand hasn’t collected billions of dollars annually from our communities, and we have no loyalty or the expectation of loyalty/concern from the Gucci brand. We have more than enough issues to focus our attention on.

  • T Willis

? I hadn’t even thought about that lol

  • T Willis

The image looks racist and the brand agreed that it was racially insensitive and removed it. I still don’t understand why it’s generating so much discussion lol

  • T Willis

That figure is taken from where blacks spend their dollars : booze and weave/wigs/relaxers. Try convincing a creamy crack addict to cut into her haircare budget and use that money for her community – the short answer – that sh*t will never happen and they will continue to use those trillions on the haircare industry and booze/drugs ?????

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

I guess there are some who see it as “racially insensitive”, and perhaps caused by ignorance, but not necessarily deliberate racism…
while some see it as just a straight-up racist attempt to mock black folk.

  • Queen B

    Lol 50 a damn fool ?

  • Queen B

I have a few Gucci items that I paid a pretty penny for therefore i will be wearing them. However, I wont b buying anything new. I was in the process of ordering a few things to help my friend with her personal styling business but when I saw this mess I declined

  • T Willis

What were the other retailers that were forced to adjust their loss prevention practices?

From what I remember, Barney’s settled those lawsuits quietly without ever admitting fault – even though we know they were at fault. I raise that point because by not really acknowledging their guilt, it seemed to be an indicator (to me) that we weren’t a market that they cared about enough to pander to. But, I could be remembering wrong.

Our power… is this is reference to that article about the black community’s trillion dollar spending power? As they say, the devil is in the details. I don’t doubt that we have the spending capacity of trillions of dollars, I do doubt black peoples ability to organize and sacrifice those items (that they spend trillions of dollars on) to invest in their communities. The trillions that blacks spend their money on is booze, drugs, and the haircare industry. Can you think of 10 ppl in low income brackets that would agree to not spend their money on booze, drugs, and hair? I’m betting, no. Black ppl just aren’t disciplined or motivated enough to practice community economics. They just aren’t.

  • Prince Zuko

    Coon coon coon

  • Y’all Jealous Cuz I’m Prudy

I agree! I got a feeling that even if Floyd didn’t have the kind of money he has, he still wouldn’t mess with 50 like that. Who has time to constantly be in competition with an overgrown manchild? NO ONE!

  • Mz_Opinionated

She got the old school mushroom hair do going on…Ayeeee

  • Applebootay

    Wait Whet? Byeeeeee!

  • Robert lee Bennett OG

    Damn right

  • Y’all Jealous Cuz I’m Prudy

*highfive* tàmpon wearing level of B.A.Ness.

  • T Willis

Do you know what black ppl spend those trillions on, that don’t recirculate in their communities? Booze. Drugs. Haircare (wigs, weaves, relaxers etc). Do you know any black ppl that don’t spend $100+ on any of those items? Do you know any black ppl, earning less than $50k annually, that would be willing to stop spending $100+ on those items to invest in community businesses?

You see it’s easy to spout off numbers and statistics, until you really break down what those numbers represent, and how many black folks are willing to stop spending their money on those items to invest in their communities. Again, the short answer is, no. Lol?????

  • T Willis

And black ppl do not spend trillions on Gucci. They spend billions on the haircare industry and you see how many are willing to continue to do it despite the factual data on the effects it has on their bodies. I mean if you can’t convince someone to discontinue using a product that can cause harm to your bodies, what hope is left that they’ll stop doing it for their communities? Lol our ppl are vain, selfish, self-centered, unmotivated, and lazy. You can quote a gaxillion dollar spending power and it still wouldn’t mean sh*t.

  • Lady_Elle

    50 is soooooooooooo petty!
    I LOVE IT!!!
    I needed this laugh!

  • T Willis

Oh, it’s most definitely racist and racially insensitive, but, the brand acknowledged it and issued a statement. What else is there to discuss? Sometimes I just wonder if black ppl drag this sort of stuff out for the drama. Outside of an apologizing and removing the item, what else do black folks expect the brand to do? We don’t spend enough on their brand to warrant any pandering, so why is it still an active topic, and why do we care about boycotting?

  • onelove

ME TOO!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT WAS FUNNY!!!!!!!!!!!! THAT PICTURE CRACKS ME UP!!

  • Mama Dee’s Wig Maker

    Exactly…3 months? Why not period?

  • Myopinion

  • Lady_Elle

    I’m still laughing!!! rofl

  • Logan Roberts

Who expected Floyd to have any morals or principles though? Especially after being hit so many times in the head.

  • SemajBeyPhilly

I don’t think Floyd knows about blackface. Y’all he’s special.

  • SemajBeyPhilly

I don’t think Floyd knows about blackface. Y’all he’s special.

  • FoodLady

At this point Black Americans need to boycott the entire United Corporation(States) of America!! All the companies are against us.

  • Sinny

Me too, unfortunately. I actually literally was about to buy a Gucci fanny pack the other day. I’ll still rock my Gucci shit that I paid a pretty penny for, but I’m so glad I didn’t make that purchase! I would’ve returned it.

  • Sinny

    ??

  • the guest

    Exactly.

Gucci is laughing because it was their objective to covertly insult, slight, and drive away black customers. The luxury fashion houses have been sending black people messages of disassociation for years. But black people are mentally conditioned to give more value and credibility to what is made by white people.

  • kupkake

    Sock puppet

  • Mark mcharm

Yes idiots do have a right to spend money anyway they feel like.

  • Yetunde

That’s his choice if he doesn’t want to support the boycott, but why then go on a shopping spree right now? What is he trying to prove? He says he doesn’t do what he’s told to do, but he does. Anyone that spend that amount of money on an item because of the logo is only doing so because they have been told it’s cool.
