Cardi B took to social media to reveal she hears voices in her head. The 26-year-old mom-of-one told her Twitter followers she holds conversations with the voices in her head. She said the voices sometimes distracts her when she’s interacting with fans.

Cardi dropped the bombshell on Twitter.com while explaining to fans why she appears to be distracted when they meet her.

“I am having a problem, right?” she explained in a video posted on Twitter. “A lot of people be saying, ‘Oh, I met Cardi B and I don’t know if she like me or not because she was looking at me like if I’m crazy or if I’m (expletive) or something. But that’s not the problem. The problem is I have a voice in my head that when I’m talking to people it just start having a conversation with me and I be replying back.”

Cardi said the voice is sometimes inquisitive about her wardrobe.

“Like you could be talking to me and the voice in my head start asking me questions, ‘Hey, like what happened to your (shirt) that you wore the other day?’ And then I reply back in my head, ‘I don’t know (expletive) I think I left it at my grandma’s house. And then me and the voice in my head start going back and forth.”

She added:

“I’m really not paying attention because the voice in my head is f**king talking to me. I don’t know if that s**t happen to (other) people, (but) that s**t be happening to me, so I just be (sic) looking at you (with a strange expression) ’cause… I’m having a whole conversation in my f**king thoughts. That’s why.”

Hearing voices when there is no outside auditory stimulus is called auditory hallucination. The sufferer may hear one voice or multiple distinct voices talking to her.

The voice is sometimes critical of the sufferer. But other times the voice may be soothing and pleasant.

Auditory hallucinations are associated with mental illness such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder. Other causes of auditory hallucinations include:

  • Alcoholism
  • Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia
  • Brain tumors
  • Drug abuse (ecstasy, LSD, bath salts)
  • Epilepsy (seizure disorder)
  • Hearing loss
  • High fever
  • Stress
  • Migraines
  • Parkinson’s disease
  • Insomnia and narcolepsy (sleep disorder)
  • Thyroid disease
  • Tinnitus (ringing, buzzing in the ears)
