There are great fathers out there who lead by example. A social media user shared a touching story about his daughter that will make you smile.

It's not enough to tell your children you love them. Sometimes it's necessary to show them what love looks like. One man showed his daughter he loved her by nearly risking his job to be there for her when she needed him most.

It's necessary to show girls what love looks like while they are young so they don't fall for every slick talker when they're older.

There are many dads who would risk their jobs to show their children they love them. We don't hear about them in the media, because the narrative isn't really about a Black man who is a good husband and father to his kids.

What a great way to start off this dreary Friday!! My dad took got me and my siblings ready to school, drove us to school and picked us up daily. Fathers are the first man their daughters love. Happy Friday!!! #RIPdaddy

  • sherri2016

Even though my parents we're married me and my 8 siblings were basically raised by our father because my mother worked and went to school my dad also worked as a Baltimore city police officer as kids we would be embarrassed to have him come to our school because he would wear Cowboy boots and a Bolo tie in Baltimore but now I'm older I appreciate that because he was mainly the only father a lot of my teachers saw on a regular and now I'm married to a man just like my father except no Cowboy boots and Bolo tie

Who took the tissue box off my dresser? OMG I am about to cry after reading this beautiful story. LawdT have mercy. Good job dads. I know all about Class Dojo (LOL). My son and I get updates/pictures on his 5 y/o daughter through Dojo.

It really does make a difference, especially to very young children when their father's are very active in their lives and give them unconditional love and support.

Yesterday, I had to pick my granddaughter up from school and she's always happy to see MaMa (she calls me MaMa instead of grandma) and last night as we were going over her "site words" to help her read, she stopped and said: "MaMa, who's picking me up from school tomorrow?" I said your daddy will be picking you up. LawdT you should have seen her face light up. She said "yea, my daddy is picking me up!"

Shout out and fist bumps to all the great dads out there.

If we don’t tell other stories, positive narratives, then it won’t happen!

I know so many Black Men like this guy! I used to work at a warehouse with predominantly men. Most of the Black Men had kids that they took care of married or not!

Many were married men who worked hard to take care of their families. Some of the younger ones did so, through the court ordered child support, and we’re active in their kids lives, even as they complained about their bm!

Many are vets, who put their kids through college, so they didn’t have to take out student loans, SOOOOOOO MANY BLACK MEN ROCK!

He picks my baby up from school every Monday. Nothings better than seeing my son and daddy chilling together. Shout out to all the black daddy's out there. My dad and stepdad mean the world to me!

that, many times, flyers and other school materials no longer even say "father"
    ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
This is because a lot of children don't have their fathers in their lives and the school is trying to prevent a child from feeling excluded. Also, it's not just fathers there are schools that have strayed away from parental labeling altogether because a lot of children (especially in white communities with the rise of opiod addiction) are not being raised by either parent.

We wondered why we hardly see black fathers on the national news suprising their children. I guess they do it, but don’t want the national attention.?????

I MISS the hell outta my daddy. The part about overnight 12 hour shift touched me, bc my dad worked 3rd shift for over 20 years. As a result he was the parent "home" during the day when we were growing up. He always trooped it out tho. Field trips with my class. Coming for lunch. Was a parent protcor for standardized tests. All on no sleep. Dads are important.

    ________________________________________

I loved my biological dad to pieces. But he was a rolling stone. Wherever he laid his hat was his home and it wasn't where I lived.

Now my step-dad was "the man". I don't often see men of his character and manhood anymore. I remember him telling my mom don't worry about my biological father paying child support because he would work at night "hacking in his cab" to feed and clothe us and he did. Jesus, take the wheel. That was a good man and we loved him like he was our DNA dad. He went on to greater heights and glory 16 years ago and I miss him dearly to this day. Matter of fact I was just talking to a friend about him yesterday. It's still very medicinal to talk about him but I can't do it for long because then it starts to hurt all over again.

  • WhoKnew

That's funny. It was a touching story.

    Open post:

I guess the decision-makers in the college campus scandal have made their decision. I read this morning that they are seeking to expel those who entered college fraudulently and for those who have already graduated with a degree and entered college fraudulently, they are seeking to revoke those degrees.

I'm wit it. It undercuts other deserving individuals who don't have wealthy parents but have the smarts, acumen and discipline to buckle down and apply themselves so that they too may have a better future.

  • PlayerP

Heart smiles...we need more of this

  • Panther Charleston

It's deception from the pit of hell whenever we believe that fathers are not important or that their absence does not create deficits. Yes, I know that there are many who are just fine, but there are too many more who have huge daddy-sized issues that leave them empty and wanting.

Girl, if I knew where the man lived or a phone number I would (sucker for punishment). I can still recite his old phone number from 20+ years ago by heart. Was able to invite his brother to my wedding a couple of years ago via. Facebook and he came with his entire family so there's no way my father doesn't know how to get in touch with me. I held out hope that he would surprise me at the wedding but no. He told his family when I was 16 not to give me his contact information and they comply so I've cut most of them off. Needless to say he preferred to ghost me completely rather than pay $50 a month in child support. I just can't.

This 1is way too much personal info for the blog but I'm in my feelings right now so . . .

  • NewNew

Amen! The key is to break the cycle in your/your kids lives. My husband is the best. If we were nonlonger together (God forbid. I don't even like thinking that) he would make sure me and his kids never wanted for anything. And all his day one friends are the exact same way. Integrity is a helluva drug.

Wish the media would show more black loving and proud fathers. Thank you Sandra for this article and it is one of the main reasons I love your page. It isn’t ratchet drama 24/7 like some of the other blogs.

  • Alicia.Ashe

    Love this.

  • A D N

I am so sorry to hear about your experience with your dad. It is not easy being denied or rejected and the feelings of being unwanted attached with unloved is devastating. But ohhhh, aren't we survivors regardless? What was meant to break us, didn't. We weren't suppose to understand love, but we do. Will we live and our lives continue, of course, because we are strong. I too, share in your feelings. You're not alone. There are millions of us abandoned children. One thing that has helped me is understanding that hurt people, hurt people. Although we are more than "people" to fathers, it's helpful to know we did nothing wrong, we are perfect in spite of, and all the joy our fathers missed is their lost. If they turned their backs, just know there isn't a moment of a day that passes when we don't flash their minds. We're in their lives, may not be physically, but definitely mentally. We're inescapable because we are special. I encourage you to reach out to him by writing him a handwritten letter. Write him to release your thoughts to him without any expectations from his end. Let today be the day to tell him how his absence hurt you but you survived. His presence would have been good, but would it...if he was incapable of fathering you and preparing you for womanhood? Love you stranger/like kin through experience. We are ok, and always will be.
