Jamal H. Bryant has only been appointed pastor at New Birth Baptist Missionary Church for a few months, but already he's making a difference in the community.

Pastor Bryant has raised over $100,000 to help incarcerated inmates who don't have money for bail.

Bryant exceeded his original goal of raising over $50,000 for bail money for inmates who are incarcerated due to non-violent offenses.

Pastor Bryant will join reality TV star and rapper Scrapp DeLeon; Judge Hatchett and Rashan Ritchey for "Bail Out Day" on April 20th in DeKalb County, Georgia.

Scrapp DeLeon, star of Love & Hip-Hop: Atlanta (pictured center), was recently released from prison and he is raising awareness about the inequality and injustice in the prison system.

On April 20, Buses will roll to DeKalb, Cobb, Spaulding, Fulton and Rockdale Counties and bring designated inmates to the Anex at New Birth on their first stop before meeting with their family members.

If you are interested in providing make up services, hair services, or have new or gently worn suits and dress attire to donate please email whyjonellpr@gmail.com.

The official Press Release will be sent by end of day on April 18th from the New Birth Administration Office.

FLINT STILL DOESN'T HAVE CLEAN DRINKING WATER!

  • WinterIsComing

Great deed! I don’t understand the purpose of bail anyway. You should either be released or kept behind bars until your court date because you’re a menace to society. Why does the system have to charge a fee? It isn’t fair to poor folks.

  • WinterIsComing

There are several programs out there to help with the recidivism rate. I suggest googling what’s available in your community and if you’re interested volunteering your time and money to assist-we could always use more help instead of complaints.

  • Blaque Mahogany

He looks really _____ in that plaid suit. ?????

  • the guest

It’s inequitable and punishing of poor people I agree. The bail out movement is very important. Pastor Bryant means business about moving that church to a new direction. This is a wonderful update.

  • Sircaput

Awesome! Great to see Pastors doing positive things in your community! But just reading these comments I can see that you are "Damned if you don't or Damned if you do!"

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

I think the idea is that if they release you on bail and you know there's money at risk, it'll make you more likely to show up for your court date so they wont need to come after you. The concept makes sense, although I think too often it keeps a lot of poor + minority people in jail unnecessarily who cant come up with bail money.

  • JesusSidePeace

You are part of the problem. But ok. Got it!

  • Cheese eggs

    Absolutely questionable

  • The Art

I hope that they're not just bailing out random black people, because they're black. Some of them belong in jail and should sit there until trial. I read about a man yesterday, who was bailed out of jail by one of these non-profits. Upon release he tracked down and murdered his ex. The road to hell is paved with good intentions.

  • Guest

    He is getting 10 million.

  • Alextra Ballard

"Oops" Tweet said: she has given up on church, and will no longer attend.

  • AphroKween

    Naw girl, the ?

  • The Art

The same people who pour their money into churches could also re-direct that money back to their communities. It's not the church's fault, it's the people's fault.

  • Rmicu

This is good service. I just hope they know the circumstances of the people they are bailing out. A community group in Missouri bailed out a man, this week, who was arrested for domestic violence, he beat his wife, threatened to kill her. He was bailed out of jail on April 9 and killed her that night. The group is now " reviewing their policies".

  • JesusSidePeace

    https://media1.giphy.com/media/1236TCtX5dsGEo/giphy.gif

Awesome!! Make sure your available April 20th.

  • The Art

Wendy played no games! She had her ish set-up for a moment like this. Executive producer credits mean nothing. He didn't have ownership of the show or anything related. Her home is owned by her LLC, which he has no ownership in. She could dissolve the LLC and leave him broke and homeless. Wendy is cunning. This will be a teachable moment to wealthy women who marry below their pay grade.

  • Sha

He was also part owner of their production. They had a lot of things going on. They had their own Hunter production co. that's why he got that pay out.

  • Sha

Probably cheated, he is a serial cheater.

  • Yoni7

    That's a start.

  • Sha

    Good answer.

  • DeJeri

I work in the court system and I can tell you unequivocally that there are people sitting in jail right now with a bond as low as $100.

  • dru and neil

Speaking of that, there’s a story out of St. Louis today of a non profit bailing out a black dude who went on to kill his wife same day.

  • The Chosen 1.

on that first picture, he looks like Michael Jordan with glasses.

  • WhoKnew

I'm still trying to wrap my head around logic and reasoning as to why a pastor would start his own church, become involved in scandal and disease (Max), and bail on a church that he founded. Reports that his father founded the church are not true. Anyway, I think the board had enough of his shenanigans and ousted him from his own house of worship.

I don't know what happened between him and Tweet to cause their breakup but I saw an article that Tweet did an interview for (I think it was on Yahoo) about a month ago and she said she is basically done with dating for a while because people try to make you believe they're something that they're not and they want you to do things that a Christian would not do and you're supposed to be a pastor. I could not help but think she was taking a dig at Jamal Bryant.

I'm all for good works and good deeds and redemption so I applaud helping the community. But just as someone mentioned below make sure the people you are bailing out are those who have served their time and wish to repent, if you will. Because, I too, have read stories about a husband getting out of jail claiming he will never hit or harm his wife again and 12 hours after he got out the wife or girlfriend was dead.

  • WinterIsComing

    That’s a damn shame.

  • Rhyme and Reason

Especially, to the children of incarcerated inmates, which is even more important, IMO!

  • DT

Yup he sure did kill his wife. He was already in there for beating her down and couldn’t afford bail. A non profit organization, can’t think of the name, paid for his bail and he got right out and killed that poor woman. Then the organization had the nerve to say it isn’t their fault and no one could’ve predicted the tragedy, and we should be focused on coming together for her family......uh ok. Had his ass still been in jail that woman would’ve been alive. Just disgusting. So I hope they vet all of these inmates charges carefully before bailing them out.

  • DT

Then had the nerve to say they weren’t to blame! Yes tf y’all are dummies. He was in there for beating her down already and y’all gave him the opportunity, capability and intent to kill this woman. I would sue the hell out of them if I were her family. Idiots.

  • DT

His ole big ugly ass shouldn’t get nothing. Him and that heffa he laying up with should be put out on the street honey. But it’s alright. They’ll blow it all in about a year. Gon head Wendy and live ya best life girl!

  • Rhyme and Reason

This may be well intentioned, but they’re not legal experts or mental health professionals, and the cost could be deadly, if the individuals commit a serious crime!

Which kinds of arrests would people be bailed out for?

Businessman Willie Wilson has been doing this, but not without criticism of who’s released!

Domestic Violence bailouts should be a NO!

Non-violent, first-time offenders should receive help!

  • WhoKnew

"So I hope they vet all of these inmates charges carefully before bailing them out"
    _____________________________________________

Exactly right because if you don't vet them there could be many more women who are going to be targeted by a husband or an EX and might even be killed. No doubt this woman should still be alive. SMH.

  • WhoKnew

I really believe he's bisexual. No completely straight man dresses like that and especially a pastor.

  • Rhyme and Reason

EVERYTHING you said, the truth and quite questionable!

And, can you image the terror of that woman learning her psychotic husband was bailed out?

  • T Willis

Children are already a protected group.

  • T Willis

The reason churches are tax exempt is for these very purposes - to help the community.

  • Renee26

Right... No violent crimes should be considered

  • Rhyme and Reason

Because men stick together, and there are a lot of abusive men in the church, and in leadership roles like Bryant, so their judgment can easily be skewed!

Just like judges in family court, women and children are routinely disregarded with biased rulings!

  • Renee26

    Right... Simple possession

  • 2gr8ful

Yes been blocking them, its disgusting..... but I wouldn’t say as far as a family site now more like a mature site for grown adults...lolol

  • Li-Wright

Interesting. If the bailouts commit another crime, can the Pastor be sued?

  • Lovely1

He cares an awful lot about acceptance from the rappers and those in the entertainment industry, it seems. He's almost seemingly building his platform on becoming the "hip-hop" preacher of some sort. Nothing wrong with that, it's just become obvious to me since he's been in Atl. Bail out day could be good and bad. Hopefully, they've reviewed all the cases of people they are assisting. I'm sure a lot of families will be pleased to have their loved ones home.

  • IyanlaVanzantoftheInterWebs

Impartial to this because some broke criminals belong in jail...

True, but so much more is needed to help to break familial cycles of incarceration!

Must build our own “safety nets” to combat the industrial prison complex where many will plea bargain out, when they can’t make bail!

Moms could use funds for enrichment programs and camps, tuition assistance for private all-boys schools, and mentorships!

U know your people can’t do nothing without being led.

  • The Art

But, what about violent offenders are in for a non-violent incident? Is this organization going to consider criminal history or just the current charges? And what constitutes non-violence? Robbery can be non-violent but its still scary and dangerous. Will burglars be bailed out? In my opinion, this program should be limited to first-time non-violent offenders.

I wouldn't judge everyone by 1 man's insane, malicious, & just plain old evil actions. How do you know if they are trying to get their lives together or not? Going to jail doesn't mean your violent or not to be trusted. It may just mean you made a mistake, bad judgment, or one, two many dranks.....let people live man

  • Maxx

Love it! This is what the black community should look like on the daily. Helping each other instead of constant judgment. Most people deserve a 2nd chance and we all can benefit from a helping hand when we are down.

Abuse runs rampant in those places. Sexual abuse and physical abuse. I'd rather keep my child in the home to be on the safe side.

Just read a story this week about hundreds of children's remains being found on the grounds of one of those boarding school grounds. Some haven't even been identified. The school was just recently closed... One can only imagine the horrors that happened to those poor boys.

Back in the 90's there was a movie about a group of boys that sought revenge on a male administrator that raped them. Sleepers is the name of the movie... it's a classic and had me side eye-ing institutions like that after I saw it.

  • Michelle

The post says NON VIOLENT. People with DV charges doesn’t qualify

  • 2gr8ful

    ???

  • Rhyme and Reason

Yeah, sadly, those are absolutely good (frightening) reasons not to!

I never underestimate the potential harm boys are in, in terms of predators and abuse!

I remember the movie, Sleepers, never saw it, but what the Catholic priests have done is a lot or Sandusky!

  • the guest

The program is supposed to be for non violent crimes. People still in this day and age are minimizing domestic violence. A punch, shove, slap, kick, beating is NOT LESS OF VIOLENCE because it is domestic. They need to review why they didn't consider domestic violence a violent crime.
