Chris Brown shared a throwback photo of his father on Instagram.com on Wednesday.
The photo shows the pop singer sitting on a sofa between his parents, Clifton Brown and Joyce Hawkins. He is holding his toddler daughter, Royalty Brown, who turns 5 this month.
Brown’s body language in the photo speaks volumes. The singer is leaning away from his father in the image.
In 2009, Brown revealed a history of domestic violence inflicted on his mom by his father.
The 30-year-old once said he hated his father so much he wanted to kill him with a baseball bat.
“He used to hit my mom. He made me terrified all the time, terrified like I had to pee on myself,” he said.
“I remember one night he made her nose bleed. I was crying and thinking, ‘I’m just gonna go crazy on him one day.’ I hate him to this day.”
The violence inspired Brown to study martial arts.
Unfortunately, the cycle of violence was completed when Brown violently attacked his then-girlfriend Rihanna in 2009.
He was later admitted to an anger management rehab facility where he was diagnosed with bipolar disorder.
