Actress Tamera Mowry-Housley posted this Instagram image of herself in the pool with her adorable daughter, Ariah Housley, who just turned 4 yesterday. She captioned the image, "Summer days with my bestie..."

Earlier today, Sandrarose.com readers participated in a healthy discussion about good hair. Some of you asked "What is good hair?"

Good hair is silky soft hair that is easy to manage and looks great when you step out of the shower or a pool. It is wash and go hair that does not require styling with a brush or gels to lay the edges down when it becomes wet.

My definition of good hair is my own opinion. My opinion does not imply that hair other than wash and go hair is "bad hair".

I'm being honest when I say I don't have good hair. My hair is not wash and go hair. I can't take a shower and and dry off and run to the corner store without using styling tools and a little heat to achieve an attractive style. That doesn't mean my natural tight coils are bad.

Just to summarize, some LSLH, biracial, Hispanic and Latina women have good hair. That is not an indictment on Black hair. There are Black women with good hair like Tamera's.

We all should be proud of our manes regardless of the grade of hair or the texture. It's just hair.

Don't use a "bi racial" as an example Sandra..?????? that shouldn't count

  • ClaireHuxtable

I've got hair on my head. That's good. I'm good.

  • ALLMINE?

    Word..??????

  • n1kk1a

This good hair/bad hair bs needs to go away. There is no such thing as “bad” hair. This is starting to turn into Willy lynch 2019. Just love the hair and skin God blessed you with.

  • thrift.store.jungle

now auntie.... this is what i was talking about in the other post. thank u for sharing your, some would say misguided opinion.

good hair, in MY opinion, is anything that grows out of a scalp.

    we’ve gotta do better.

  • VanillaCaramel2shotsExpresso

My hair looks like this when it’s wet but once it’s dry it turns on me! I go from Becky with the good hair down my back when it’s wet to Ronald McDonald frizzy, red, and tight curls once dried. That’s why I had to find the right products depending on the season, the weather and my hairs mood. I love it most day though.

  • Renee26
  • xenaD

So a thick fro straight from the shower is unattractive? Nappy hair is unattractive? So soft bouncy hair is.. got it!

  • Dr. C

It's your opinion. It can appear to be, in many ways, anti-black. You shouldn't have to be other than black or black mixed with another race/ethnicity for your hair to be considered good. Any hair on your head is good hair.

  • Li-Wright

Good hair is wash and wear hair. If you have to mess around and detangle and fiddle with your hair to get it to behave it's not good hair :)

  • thrift.store.jungle

for any little Black child (or adult that needs a refresher)- you do not need to have wavy, loosely curled hair to have “good” hair. and don’t let anyone tell u different. love yourself, because the world is busy trying to make u do the opposite. and as soon as they have convinced you that you are inferior they’ll appropriate the very things you’ve hated and, where possible, changed about yourself. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/0de2ed5ec20a6d9150a0e36f2190044301b8bc8b8b6bbf1be6ccac0c886f509d.jpg

  • xenaD

What if it’s totally wash n wear but paper thin.. still good hair or..

  • sherri2016

So i guess my short cut is considered good hair because all i have to do is wash and go not tools except my husband's clippers

  • luVn_liFe…

    good enough??

  • CardiB’sAbs

    Agreed!

  • Mielle Downey

No one asked what good was. I want to know why black women are so invested in what good hair is. If you are black and you do not like the texture of your hair it doesn't mean your hair isn't good it means your mind is not stable .The term Good hair is a remnant from slavery and I am above it.this Good hair debate is only meant to set us back. Only ignorant black people use this term and it is telling of thier mind set.

  • joel adams

Ask a black woman in a wig to spell “good”

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Exactly. Good hair is hair that is easy to manage and requires very little styling.

  • DroneRivers

Lmao the baiting is next level! If it's not "good", you are, indeed, implying it's bad.
In MY opinion, good hair is healthy hair, regardless of texture.

  • CardiB’sAbs

Genes are crazy. Tamara’s daughter is 3/4 white but she’s darker than Tamara. That melanin is popping!

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

    Yes, it's still good hair.

  • CardiB’sAbs

Same! White folks with curly hair have the same problem.

  • BaileyBlue17

Any hair that naturally grows out of your scalp is good hair. Black women are blessed to have the options to wear their hair anyway they choose

  • Renee26

The child looks nothing like her momma or daddy in this pic...

  • KcoolMuziq

EVERY black woman should watch the movie "Nappily Ever after" starring DROP DEAD GORGEOUS Sanaa Nathan(whom I met at the 50th NAACP Awards). U will learn a valuable lesson about bad & good hair.

  • Ghetto Real Name

Lord. Then gonna use the twin I can't stand. The One who started bawling at being called a white man's whore

  • Mielle Downey

Good hair is a term used during slavery to catagorize us. Thomas Jefferson had a whole mathematical equation to divide and categorize our race. We need to stop putting energy into this colonizer term and rise above it.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Exactly. I'm going to edit my post. ?

  • CardiB’sAbs

    I prefer Tia 1000%

  • Mielle Downey

    Thankyou

  • DroneRivers

It's obviously working on some people.

  • Ghetto Real Name

Ignorance. Its black women in wigs with hair down their backs. And some with natural curls to die for. Speaking of dying you need a Jussie bleach cocktail. On ice

  • DroneRivers

    I prefer Tia too

  • Joy King

I loathe conversations like this because it’s not meant to bring about anything positive. But I will say this. Some of the most beautiful hair I’ve ever seen are in the 4 category. For those who don’t know, that’s kinky coily hair. I wish I was able to get my hair in a fab Afro like Pam Grier had back in the day. To me personally, good hair is healthy hair.

  • Li-Wright

It's on Netflix, but I'm going to try and get a copy elsewhere. Anyhow, I remember growing up for years from the time I was a little girl, I was straigtening, hot combing, gerry curling....just doing damage to my hair. And finally finally I got smart and cut my hair, went afro and it was wash and wear all the way. And in fact, the more I moisturized my hair the better and more manageable it became. I have a short fro (blond & brown dye) and all I do is wash and wear.
Sisters gotta love their moisturizers. I use coconut oil, shea butter oils, argan oil moisturizers and it has made a difference.

  • Wreckognize Game

Well the movie Chris Rock did called Good Hair represented some of my feelings.

  • Rent em Spoons ?????????

Hit dogs will hollar , the people complaining are exposing themselves , because they already felt they had bad hair or low self esteem to begin with. He gave no description of the type of hair he considers good , he’s dated Rihanna an island girl whom I’m sure he’s waken up next to her on and days . Even if he gave a description, it’s his preference and no person should be able to dictate what is or isn’t beautiful to you

  • Rayne

    ?????

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I'm pretty sure Pam Grier wore an afro wig. But I get what you're saying.

  • Wreckognize Game

I wish. I have no patience for my hair. It is thick and out of control.

  • Yup, I said it

She looks like she's from the Punjab region of South Asia.

  • Coy little wink
  • Torae

My daughters have that so called good hair and Jesus be a detangler spray and some conditioner because that ish is always tangled and knotted. Can’t stand it. I hate doing their hair...I would never tell them this, but I would take naps any day....

  • KcoolMuziq

    Great story and insight!
    ??

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

That is the definition of good hair. Wash 'n wear hair with very little need for styling. Congrats.

  • Rayne

I saw it. It was good.

  • Yup, I said it

People are obsessed with hair. Its been that way since Sampson in Biblical times. Its not just black women. White women be paying $200 a month for just Keratin treatments and blonde highlights. Shiat!

  • Wreckognize Game

If I had not seen her with her mother, I would’ve guessed that she was Latino

  • Li-Wright

Advice only: Before you shampoo it, put a pre-treatment moisturizer on it. let it sit before the shampoo. I use Garnier Fructis Damage eraser. Wash, shampoo. Then rinse. Put another conditioner on and let it sit. It can be any conditioner. Wash rinse and you should see a really good manageable hair. Then daily put a leave-in conditioner in your hair everyday. over time, it should turn.

  • NaeNae2015

Ugh..... YES!!!!THE only definition of good hair. Thank you!!

  • rockstar2142

  • Wreckognize Game

He actually said nice hair which could mean many things. ?????

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Like that wig NeNe has on? ?

  • DroneRivers

I didn't complain about Chris Brown's preference so I'm not sure why this is under my comment. I actually couldn't care less about his or anyone else's preference. But I agree that nobody should dictate what is or isn't beautiful to you.

  • Yup, I said it

I got cyber jumped by some white women on a blog because I said $200 a month at a salon is ridiculous. Those heiffers gathered me together and let me know for good hair coloring $200 is cheap and $400 a month is what it cost to have fabulous hair. They went in me for about a week. It had to been at least 15 of them. I realized its not just black women who value their hair but for some reason we get ostracized for it.

  • Tinytoon

As long as my edges isn't snatched with bald spots from here to eternity, I'm good too.?

  • jeniefrumdabloc™
  • DroneRivers

Then that disqualifies a lot of the people Sandra thinks have "good" hair. Because a lot of White, Asian, etc have to at least detangle their hair even if it's just with their fingers.

  • Wreckognize Game

Thank you for these tips. I sweat in my head before I sweat anywhere else and it drives me nuts. I never end up with the hairstyle I start with in the morning during these Louisiana summer months. I am gonna try a half wig for vacation in the Chi. ??

  • rockstar2142

I disagree. My natural thick hair is just as good as my daughters fine curly hair.

Yes, moisture, moisture, and more moisture. Our hair needs it almost as much as our bodies need water. And conditioning!

Do you mix your shea butter with any fragrance oil? I think I would use it a lot more if I could get past the smell. I've been thinking about mixing a few drops of a citrus oil into my shea butter just to get rid of the smell.

  • Anunnaki, in A twilight Zone

I had a white girl(co worker) ask me what if I was white, we both ask this question, vice versa, she said she would adore the color, I said jump off a fcking bridge. She look shocked, i said, whatttttttt, ?

i can admit when i was younger, i used to wish i could just wash n go with my hair or had the curly but manageable hair i saw on tv. i fell into to the so called "good hair" thing. thats why i permed my hair to a crisp as a teen. but ive learned to appreciate my 4c hair now

  • DroneRivers

I didn't watch it but I die laughing every time the commercial comes on for it. That wig is atrocious!

When I say cyber jumped, I means cyber beat down. They were saying " they can afford it" judge them if you want but they don't care, they can afford it, they work hard for their $, damn me and my opinions. One woman told me that, "If spend less than $200 on my hair she knows i look a mess and no pictires needed." Whew they were spittin ?. Another black woman came to my rescue and explained that white people pay way more in the salons than blacks. Then the white women calmed down when they realized we were different ethnicities.

  • DroneRivers

How do we know Becky is white?

  • Li-Wright

You buy the brand name, like Dark & Lovely, or Cantu, or Shea Moisture in the bottle with the argan or shea butter oils mixed it. It's a bottle of cream moisturizer.
But also leave-in moisturizers work; use it daily.

  • Wreckognize Game

All the wigs were lopsided. Lloyd who has “good hair” looked old AF. I guess they were trying to play up the light skin dark skin drama and make him look unattractive compared to them.

Good hair is healthy hair. Period. It can come in all patterns and lengths.

  • The Shy Cookie

Black women have good hair period. There is nothing wrong with it at all it just comes down to being able to properly care for it and not hate the hair that grows out of your scalp. Lightskin black women or mixed women aren't the prototype for good hair smh this shouldn't even need to be said at this point.

What is being considered as good-hair; on a national level... within our community... and on this post is nothing more than "fine" hair that under the weight of moisture/water reacts differently.

listen! anyone who wishes to... can wash their hair and go out... if they have the confidence to love what's growing out of their scalp.

I am someone that that is often referred to as having good hair...i feel away... it's nothing more than a fine hair that responds to moisture differently...because it lacks the thickness to do anything other...thats my truth... and if we're being even more observant you will find that as we get older those of us with this good hair we have thinner hair as we grow into older age..
    However and MOST IMPORTANTLY
we have to get out of this mindset...with all due respect Sandra Rose I don't like that you have a mindset of good hair as being something other than the course strong hair that most black women are blessed to have... I said it earlier and I'll say it again I don't even believe this discussion would even be on the table if we were not succumbed by a standard of beauty that does not represent strongly the black woman pure and black

    we've just been indoctrinated

  • dontgetblocked

I love thick kinky hair...on other people. I thank God I can do wash n gos. My hair goes from curly to koily. 4c hair can be a challenge...one that I can't face. I need easy to manage hair and unfortunately "bad" hair ain't easy. It can be beautiful but it ain't good.

  • Yup, I said it

It was a post and they just keep coming for my neck the whole week. It was different people that's why I say it had to have been all at least 15 people who nastygramed me. I wasn't arguing or responding. I think I was in shock that it made white folks that mad. I was actually talking about 90 day fiancee when Larissa booked a $200 hair appt. All I said was she can go to the Dudley hair school for $30 bucks?

  • Knocked Kneed and Pigeon Toed

There is good and bad hair in every hair texture within every race. No one texture is better than the other. Just because one may be easier to maintain doesn't mean its better. I have what is considered 3a/3b hair type. Its almost to the middle of my back and it's thick. I wear my natural hair 90% of the time and get so many compliments on it. But personally I am so envious of those who have 4a or 4b hair. You cant beat that hair texture. I know its a lot of work but damn it gorgeous. Now to me that's my definition of good hair. One of my sisters has super long and thick 4a hair and when I tell you its the most gorgeous thing it really is. These females been wearing weaves and wigs so long that they forgot we have the best texture period. Silly!

  • Meme

Sorry Ms Sandra i dont get your angle? Tamera is also mixed race. My point is that her daughter has a supposedly white father and a mother that is half white so in actuality her daughter has one black grandparent and 3 white grandparents, im just saying gentics are amazing tis all!

Your opinion is stupid and contrived by generations of degradation of real African hair. You don't need styling tools or to spend thousands of dollars on products every year. Your hair is your hair. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/5484a1094c18f12a23187a0b7b596b225d8c9f8dce73e1f45ed286a038e105b3.jpg

  • DroneRivers

Sadly this happens a lot and most people don't fight back because they don't know how or don't have the resources. You gotta go over their heads. Try contacting the local police review commission. Police departments have to report/answer to them. I hope it can help!

Right! Good hair is a head full of healthy hair growing from your scalp. I've seen A LOT of women with curly or wavy hair that was damaged. I feel sorry for us. It's 2019 and we're still on this bullish*t SMH.

?? Them two up there is parts cave demon. So technically they have dog hair and not so called “ good hair”

I have wash and go curley hair. And I take after my mother with having thick hair. All the other women in my family including my bald headed older sister have thin damaged hair. I don’t consider myself having good hair. I hate when people use that term when comment on my hair. Or they asked me if I’m mixed ?????? Or where I’m from, because according to them there no way I can be a Black american with my “ good Curley hair”?. Even my ignorant Jamaican barber always said you’re lucky you have good hair. ?????????????????

  • Reenaface

Black women's psyche's have been damaged from slavery to Jim crow, when we look at images in the media it's all white everything, we get talked about like dogs in music and that's just the tip of the iceberg. • Blaque Mahogany

So, despite my complexion I have been asked if I was mixed due to the length (at the time) and the texture. A non black man once told me that that he likes that I have "Indian" hair. But, I cant wash and go. I have to at least add some sort of moisturizer to my hair. And I've noticed over the last few yrs that my texture has changed. I'm about a 3b/3c now. It's easier to manage, but that's really the only benefit IMO.

I haven't internalized the "good hair" ideology but I know it's a thing.

  • Vonda K

Sis, you making too much sense?

  • Marlika

Yes my hair is cut short. Is there a problem?? I rather go to a barber than a beautician to cut it. ?????

  • Yup, I said it

Good hair is healthy hair That grows and is alive. Bad hair is like Gollum on Lord of the rings. That's for all races. Everybody wants thick full healthy hair like the women in the Pantene Commercials. They have black women, white and Latina in those commercials too. Nobody wants to be walking around with a Combover to cover bald spots or a rug on their head.

  • Y’all Jealous Cuz I’m Prudy

Really Sandra...Really *eye roll*!!! Why are people still talking about hair textures like this is the 1800's?

As long as it's not breaking off because of a bunch of split ends, it's good hair. "Good hair" is well kept hair, not the texture.

  • Meme

No no no problem at all im nosey and sometimes you assume you're chatting to a female when actually is male and vice versa, no problem at all you sound like you wanna fight me!

As you were my friend lol

  • Coffee1st

I loathe the term good hair. Let me preface this with saying im somewhat of an empath. So even as a child, when my friends would play in my hair and call it good, it made me uncomfortable....I didn't know what to say. I couldn't articulate why at the time. I now know it's because if my hair was good, what did they consider their hair to be...??? I knew my hair was considered desirable for all the wrong reasons.
Smh. I hate this chyt....our minds have been bent over and screwed good. I can't tell you what it does to me to see a Black woman own every strand of hair on her natural head like she wouldn't have it any other way.

2019 and we’re still discussing good hair, bad hair.
If you have hair, and ahealthy scalp you are blessed I don’t care if it 3c or 24c whatever! Who made up this criteria?
Since childhood I’ve had people tell me ‘gurl you got good hair. You half indian?’
I cringe inside when they hear it. My momma alway preached if you have hair it’s good no matter the texture!

As long as the Black community continues to debate about this nonsense we as community will continue to be lag behind in every area.
Black women continue to have one of the highest rates of:
Breast cancer, colon cancer, depression, obesity, domestic violence sex trafficking and low wages etc....and yet we hot about Good Hair?

  • Larisa

I think black women have beautiful natural hair and I know there are some who feel a stigma against their natural hair, but I say it’s beautiful.

Black women are so blessed. We can do almost anything with our hair!
Other groups admire and wish they could be us so bad. That’s why they working overtime to divide and conquer.

I'm all black and when I would step out of the pool or the shower my hair was layed like wet and wavy bundles....
Now that I'm locked., For some reason my hair lays just like it did when I was not locked...
I have mature locs but they have a wave pattern in them. .
So I get the same results when I step out the pool or the shower ....
although I have what some in the hood call "good hair for dark skin girl" I always wanted coarser texture so I could achieve more styles

ALL hair is good hair if you’ve got some. I honestly loathe the idea that one grade/ texture is superlative over another! There are pros/ cons to ALL textures and healthy hair trumps it ALL!

I saw a post last year That showed a model of Asian descent and I think she was being prepped for a runway and the hairstylist wrapped her hair with a bunch of Bobby pins in her hair and a few hours later she took them out and the model had an Afro. The jealousy is real and that just proved that we can never have anything nice smh.

Kinda sad that we as Black women care about and are passionate about such ancillary topics when we are the number one race being diagnosed at alarming rates with the HIV virus, are under-employed and are more likely to be hit by lightening TWICE than be married BEFORE the age of 30.

  • dontgetblocked

It doesn't really work like that. She could pull more of her father's genes or more of her mother's genes. There is no exact science.

  • ClaireHuxtable

I'm familiar with the negativity around what Black people have been fed regarding what is acceptable and desired. What I am saying is that it's all relative! There is some woman out there who wishes she had hair Just Like Yours! To her, that makes it GOOD.

There is not one single woman out there who has looked in the mirror one morning and said, *sigh* What am I going to do with this today?

  • JazzyBossyJen

In high school I had a boyfriend who said I had good hair. I was like Boy No and he said "Your hair always looks good". He was right but I didn't have what Sandra considers "good". Also I have a half white cousin who always hated her hair and said she wanted hair like mines. (Nappy). The point is no matter what hair you have some of us are still not happy.

  • GinJen

so what bill will you pay for a woman with a 63 day old wig sewed on to her head, that may or may not have been washed since it was installed?? asking for a friend.

  • dontgetblocked

If you have "good" hair, you pull it up into a bun or ponytail and swing on about your day. If you have 4Z hair, you sport a dried up nappy fro or cover it up. There's no cute go-to hairstyle.

  • ClaireHuxtable

Ikr! Don't have a car note, but the July mortgage still needs to be paid l0l!

  • ???

No such thing as happy hair. 4c hair is extremely curly. It is the hair of the gods (wool). You must moisturize it and grow it out to have it look it’s best. It will always dry out fast because it’s transmitting energy. That’s why it defies gravity. People’s dry hair that falls with gravity and/or does not helix coil are more relative to the beast.

  • Zeta Aggie

White women add gel or leave in conditioners to their hair. Why do black people act like a wash n go is actually a wash n go? You still add product and groom your hair. And yes 3b and 3c hair is easier to manage.

  • dontgetblocked

The truth is people with easier to manage hair aka good hair have it made. I see so many coworkers struggling with their natural hair. They can't do a wash n go so they have to do braid or twist outs. It takes forever to detangle and they struggle to make their hair look attractive. It takes me two minutes to detangle my hair. I slap some product in my hair and I'm off. I feel guilty that my hair is so easy to care for and grows like a weed. People with 4Z hair really struggle. That's why it's called bad hair. It takes too much work.

L0l@ swing on about your day!
98% of women have looked at another woman and said, "I want HER hair. How do U do your hair? What product did you use to get your hair to do that?"
Often times we want to emulate the opposite of what we have. Yet there is nothing undesirable about our own hair.

Well tamera and tia are not just black , now my daughter who is born from African American descent has hair like tamera above naturally curly and it’s long , as well my daughter is lighter than me but my baby hair gets very puffy and tangly which sometimes require a blow dry and edge control to maintain so I don’t think this all

  • Coffee1st

Our hair was part of the creative process of the Creator Himself when forming us. I firmly believe that it's not "just" hair. It wasn't "just" hair when they made us ashamed of it, it wasn't "just" hair when we were getting the napes of our necks burned clean off with hot combs or when we burned like a brother-ducker waiting for that lye to take effect. Nope, it's not "just" hair. It's so much more... to the point that they wanted us to hate it and destroy it.
That mindset is erroneous, despiritualized Western indoctrination.

    good
    adjective, bet·ter, best.
    morally excellent; virtuous; righteous; pious:
    a good man.
satisfactory in quality, quantity, or degree:
    a good teacher; good health.
    of high quality; excellent.

This is what scares me about this definition.

  • A D N

NOOOOO, white people didn't create the "good hair". That is ALLLLL black folks doing, especially in the southern region like Louisiana. The light skin thing is STILLLLLL a common description used in the Southern Louisiana areas. If one is light skinned....automatically considered beautiful, and don't let them have "good hair". They would be considered absolutely gorgeous LOL.

  • A D N

We can be such an uninformed rebellious people, but many of us are waking up and teaching out kids better. However, I've learned the world discriminates against darker skin tones people, regardless of ethnicity.

  • Bonita

I do too. This article describes exactly what us Gen X'rs have always meant when we say "good hair." It simply means wash and go, nothing more. It's not taking anything away from other hair textures. I've noticed that it always seems to be the new gens, and those who are natural that get all bent out of shape behind the "good hair" reference. It's not that serious.

  • CardiB’sAbs

    I’m convinced you’re a white troll.

  • Bonita

The context that we've been using the term in since the 80's is as exactly as described in the post. Webster's definition never applied. We had our own definition.

  • Bonita

Exactly. We always considered it dog hair. But as described, it simply meant wash and go.

people sound so uneducated talking about good hair. i consider good hair strong hair that doesnt tangle badly. anyway, tameras kid looks like a fat mexican baby. so a mother with an italian father and blackish mother couples with some type of german englishman and they create a mexican. genes are something else. good thing the kid is cute. over the past 2 weeks i have seen scores of caveman looking white mother black father babies and their slow looking adults counterparts.

  • SeannaPaula

Preach, So if good/nice hair is the wash and go kind, then what does that make my non wash and go hair , bad hair. That is what you imply when you say wash and go only is good hair.
.. as for wash and go who the hell doesn't want to run a comb thru their hair first thing in the morning. ... And baby hair belongs on baby

  • GinJen

  • lovelygamour

there is a historical meaning about -good hair- in the african american community.

  • GinJen

    lol

  • lovelygamour

i agree. just like i know white women with bad hair. their hair takes a ton of work. it gets tangled really easily. thats what I think the ancestors meant by good hair. its just hair that didnt take them a year to manage. then the term started to be used to elevate a certain type of person.

  • pure_rachet

I differ in opinions from Sandra. My opinion is good hair is what you are able to manage and groom to look nice. I have Sandra's idea of good hair that often looks flat or dull sometimes despite having curl and edges. I got a deva cut for more body and it didn't work...

"Good hair" is a term that was literally used by slave owners and overseers when they would decide on if their slave would be close to the "big house"... currently its a term that has been used to cater to the white aesthetic by black people who are warped in their minds...boo is biracial and he told me he would cringe when the women he dated said he had "good hair"...UGH....

There are Black women with good hair like Tamera's.
    ______________________________________________
What in the HELL is THIS????? You are TRULY brainwashed, my dear. I hope you get the help you need to free that mind that has been controlled by white supremacy for so long. smh Such a shame that someone your age thinks like this. It's almost a blessing that you didn't have any children (especially a daughter). It would be a disgrace to have her walk around thinking that her hair is bad if it doesn't mimic "some LSLH, biracial, Hispanic and Latina women who might have good hair". SMGDH

  • morenYAHdelsur

I’m legit ashamed of this entire post. I think it should be 86’d ?????

  • Raquel

What makes it not good hair? Because it takes more effort to do? I just don't get your logic. It sounds more like brainwashing to me than anything else. If society didn't tell you this, how would you know you had "bad hair"? Before the colonizers ruined this Earth, I highly doubt that Africans knew how to divide in this manner. We were TAUGHT this, this isn't something that came from within us. Please remove that bondage that is white thinking.

  • Raquel

Thank you! We were told to hide our hair because the many different styles were attractive to white men and other men and white women were jealous. This is where the headscarves came from. We even learned how to freak those and still look good!! Everything that white people taught us to hate, is what they love!! They taught us to hate our skin color, yet tanning salons are making money hand over fist. Why? If they LOVED their pale skin so much why do they spend so much money on trying to make it darker or come back from vacations and be happy to compare to my skin, how tan they've become?? Lol

  • Raquel

Hell yeah. This post is the same reason why my dark-skinned cousins and nieces hate their skin color and want "long silky hair". I swear this sh*t makes my blood boil. We so lost it's pathetic.

  • Raquel

EXACTLY!!! When my little cousins hair poofs into a pretty a** 'fro after it's freshly washed and conditioned, I tell them, "your hair is pointing to the Heavens above and those with "dog hair" points to where the devil dwells. Hence, the evil species that they are. They smile and begin to fall in love with their hair. Eff that. I will NOT have my black cousins wanting to be anything other than who they are.

  • morenYAHdelsur

It’s pathetic. I understand SR’s point of view now when it comes to race relations and politics ?

If this was a post offering hair care tips to naturals that would be better! Not who’s hair is considered “good” ?????

As many have commented “good” hair is subjective.

  • SingleGalCrazyWorld

This is one of the reasons why you see US in those horrible lace fronts straight weaves down our back...this good hair ish irks my nerves....

  • Kimocha
  • Mz_Opinionated

Why are you saying "black cousins"? I mean...if you yourself are African American why break it down so descriptively? I just thought it weird...but carry on.

  • rory
  • morenYAHdelsur

    Yes ma’am.

I went to a water park this past weekend and saw a few of these horrible lace fronts ?

  • SpillyNillie

    YAAAASSSSSSSS!!!

  • SpillyNillie

    "It's just hair." PERIODT!

  • SpillyNillie

I wish you were in the post that started this debate. I was solo dolo like for real!!

  • deadellamore
  • softness1

I'm up here at work with my natural hair in an afro bun and my shit looks good.. I don't know why people are so brainwashed to think if hair is shiny looking it's the be all end all.. Hair is hair, just get you a neat nice style and go..Ponytail, afro, curls etc..

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

    So Photoshopped. Nice picture though.

  • Beloved Jordan

Good hair is healthy hair..whether it's tightly coiled or loose waves. Ur hair is good cause it grows towards the sun instead of laying flat. Actually straight hair is dead hair that's why it has no life to it and lays flat.Be proud of your tight coils

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I thought we were discussing real hair?

  • Look@m3

Not a fan of this twin. cant put my finger on it but there is something up with her!

  • tintin

    Gosh Sandra.

this post is not a good one.

  • Look@m3

She still fire! whats your point? Its a professional picture...is it not supposed to be enhanced?

  • Lee

Poor Sandy, didn't know you felt this way about yourself. Now your other posts about black women make alot of sense. I will no longer be supporting this blog

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

All hair is dead. But I get your point.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I don't understand why people get so upset over the term "good hair". It simply means wash and go hair. It doesn't mean my hair is bad because it's 4b. My hair takes a little longer to manage than wash 'n go hair. So now we can't describe anything as "good"?

  • Bashi22

    Black men love good hair

  • Karen Brady

At all. For me, Tia definitely has more flavor and starring in The Game certainly helped with that.

  • January Jones

You want to know what good hair is........healthy hair

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Take care, hun. Sandrarose.com is a forum that welcomes all views and respects all opinions.

  • Floriduhh Evans

Tamera is not black, she is biracial. Please don't argue this... she is just as white as she is black ?????

  • Freeriah

    She looks old as hell.

  • Myopinion

These people seem insecure. I was always taught that good hair is hair that grow's and is well maintained. I never felt any kind of way about hair. Bad hair to me is any texture that doesn't grow, edges broke off and is not kept.

  • RespectSelf

lol That fact that folks are acting brand new lol. EVERYBODY knows exactly what folks are talking about when they say "good" hair. Now you hate yourself for acknowledging that folks have hair that is easier to manage? lol or for referring to that easier to manage hair as "good" hair. stop it now.

  • TransMichelle

Chris probably means that he prefers women with "their own hair." No weaves, lace fronts, or extensions. Nice healthy hair whether coiled or straight.

  • IyanlaVanzantoftheInterWebs

    You READY this morning?????????????

  • AphroKween

What type of women does he date? Blasians and Hispanics...............lets stop kidding ourselves about what he meant.

  • AphroKween

I believe they consider themselves as AA women.

  • Kimocha

This reminds me of the "good hair vs bad hair" scene in Spike Lee's movie School Daze...

  • BW Empowered

    Brainwashed as hell.

  • Dontgetdraggedhoe??

I agree that good hair to me the type of hair that doesnt require much maintenance in my case my wigs and weaves are good hair but the thing is i don’t consider hair bad unless it smells and has obvious dirt and slime and sh*t in it, and ive seen that on every race. Other than that i consider hair high maintenance when its not easy peasy. I have a 4 a kinky pattern myself and my hair is high maintenance affff

  • EasyBreezy

Auntie! What's up with that? Surely, you are not telling us......

  • Dontgetdraggedhoe??

Lol what she said that was so against black women? I need you to read the comment on wshh and mto if you really wanna see anti blackness come on now. Our defense to everything cant be “well you hate black women sooooooooo”

  • TransMichelle

I'm not kidding myself. He's probably tired of sisters with these weaves and lace fronts and slinging it around like it's their real hair. It's my opinion and I'm sticking with it.

  • starryeyed

I have this wash and go hair and hate when people refer to it as "good hair". The implication is that this is the only texture considered nice and that is problematic for black folks the majority of which do not have this texture without a lacefront. It drives me insane because I see it for what it is, worshiping features that are not considered African... a subtle agreement that black is not beautiful unless the hair is curly, or the skin is light, or the nose is small, etc etc. ugh so annoying

  • Raquel

MAJOR FACTS girl......I was gonna mention that but I figured someone who can put 2 and 2 together, would. lol

  • starryeyed

Agreed does this negro forget that he also dated Rihanna who would not meet his standards of good hair without a damn lacefront or relaxer.

  • Dontgetdraggedhoe??

Because latinas and black women are insecure about our looks and features. You would never believe it with how much we swear we’re queens and everybody wanna be us and yet we crumble because someone defines good hair as something we don't have. Thats crazy af! We dont have bad hair! Just because our hair needs more attention doesnt mean its bad why cant we be okay with some hair being easier to manage and other not? We’re extra af myself included because i used to be that black brown woman offended at anything that didnt sound like praises. In therapy you’ll learn that it comes from an inferiority complex and a deep jealousy of mainstream standards of beauty. Girl let me go find a new pic of me with my natural hair out, this a wig. ?

  • facingrealit1

I have to agree with you to a certain point as Rhianna did not have good hair but more often than not it was her real hair.

  • facingrealit1

That is only because they can't pass as white. That black gene was dominate in their skin tone, but more passive in their hair texture.

  • Look@m3

I tried hard to like this girl but I kept getting this weird nudge in my spirit about her and I eventually stopped following her on IG and every since then I have been seeing stuff with her that I cant quite Express in words but I have a good feeling as to why. But I absolutely love her sister!

  • Let them eat cake

no matter what they consider themselves they are still biracial. it is what it is. biracials are now fighting for their own category which should have been done ages ago.

  • Floriduhh Evans

But half their family is white, half of their genetics is from white folks, so we just gonna throw all of that away?

  • IyanlaVanzantoftheInterWebs

The Hair topic is beneath me because it is NOT THAT SERIOUS! WHATEVER type of hair you have, PLEASE make sure it looks neat and presentable... That goes for men and women ???

  • Let them eat cake

Please explain..what do you think it is about her i know its hard but whats the closes thing you can think of?

  • SingleGalCrazyWorld

When was this??? You know I woulda backed you up!!!

  • facingrealit1
  • Look@m3

I dont think she likes being black and she is a little passive aggressive about it. I think that maybe what I have been sensing with her.

  • Let them eat cake

and our hair protects us from the sun and bugs/lice. in grade school the teachers/etc skipped us black kids because they knew black folks dont get lice!!

  • Kimocha

Exactly!... I was gonna say that we don't get lice too, but decided against it... but thanks for saying it for me, LOL!

  • rory

The picture is Fantastic and she is Beautiful!!!!

  • SayWhatNow?

Have yall ever cut your real hair while taking out your braids?! I can punch myself in the damn face I'm so mad!

  • FlorenceJohnston

Because to imply something is good means, by its very definition, something has to be bad. So what is the opposite of “silky soft hair...that does not require a brush to lay down edges”? The hair growing out of most Black people’s head that we were taught to hate.

  • Let them eat cake

girl you know what he meant, stop. why didnt he say the same about white women etc? no, he pointed out black women specifically. use your discernment if you have any.

  • finallymadeitn

My daughter did that to the back of my head 2 months ago. I'm still mad ??

  • Lady_Elle

    Yes! I too was pissed!

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

So if I say a car looks good, I'm implying that every other car on the road looks bad? ?

  • Marlika

Yes!! And then she has moments where she tries too hard to prove she’s black. I definitely like Tia better. Plus Tamara is the goody annoying twin!

  • MsVAllDay

Just did this recently and was HOT!!!

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Thank you for saying this. We do not have bad hair. I personally don't have good hair, but I am happy with my hair. I maintain it by going to a professional stylist every week. If I thought my hair was bad I would cut it off, or wear hats.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Michelle has a head full of glorious weave.

  • Guess Who

    AW SHIT....
....I had to say this. "good hair" is not only a black american issue, lol. My latina rellies think my 3A/3B is nappy or "bad". Hair texture - not so much the length - is a huge issue with a lot of folks, smh. SAD, especially when curly and kinky hair can be styled in so many gorgeous ways.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I'm speaking about my experiences with my hair. I'm not saying 4b hair is bad hair. I simply said my hair is not good hair because I can't just wash it and go.

  • Guess Who

    RIGHT!

  • EasyBreezy

    *clutching pearls* *thrashing about*

  • classycns

Good hair is healthy hair. Ex: Oprah! For the willfully obtuse good hair is referred to wavy or straight textured hair. In the American Black community it is equivalent to being light skin and/or light eyes. The slave owners started the marginalizing of Back slaves and(some) Black people in todays society have elevated and celebrated the mentality that one is superior than the other. Btw I have 4 textured hair. It's short and healthy.

  • Floriduhh Evans

But don't forget the mindset, that means half they cousins, aunt's, uncles and a set of grandparents are white. Not only is that an influence on their looks but their mindset also. If we are in a revolution, they would have dual loyalty. That is why I don't consider them "black" they are BIRACIAL.

  • Look@m3

Its almost as if she is trying to conceal it a little bit. at least I really tried hard. I was following them both but when she (I think if I remember correctly) criticize this little black girl https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bx6kI6xwV0U
about her abs and had her mom upset. Then I was really done when she post/deleted a comment under Rasheeda page expressing black love. She posted something like why black love, why not all or something crazy but she deleted it real quick but of course some people saw it..

  • starryeyed

I like a separate category but biracial is tricky because all AA's are biracial. Who qualifies? Is it only when one of your parents are white? And not white relatives a few generations prior? Because the twins kids will have kids eventually and then what happens with them? Tia's grandkids might look black, Tamera's could look white/mixed. Are Tia's grandkids still biracial? I would say yes although someone at first glance would see black without their genealogy history.

  • SpillyNillie

    In the CB post, chile....

  • http://citygirlzen.blogspot.com/ missarewa

good hair is ANY HAIR that grows out of your head. Until you can create a living breathing human being I don't want to hear it. have a happy 4th of July guys!

  • Karen Brady

    Yes!

  • T Willis

How do you know it’s exactly 50/50? The DNA could show a higher percentage of African blood. Would that matter? I had my ancestry done and it said 25% was other... should I consider myself less than black? Tyra banks looks mixed and she’s 75% African. There was also a dark skinned NFL player that showed his ancestry was 80% African - yet dude is dark skinned. At one point can we stop arguing bs? The only reason “race” matters is because yt ppl want anything that isn’t purely yt to be classified. We classify race because of yt. Black ppl don’t need to separate and specify blackness because ultimately we’re all treated the same; subjugated.

It’s petty and beneath us to classify and separate - that’s yt ppl behavior. We all black.

  • Let them eat cake

    the baby is 75% white

  • 11pink123

Good hair to me is hair that has a lot of protein which more black mixed raced ppl seem to have more than any other race. However Ive seen that hair type in every race, just not as much as Ive seen it in people who are black mixed.

so in others hair that is Thick, Soft and Shiny. A little coarse but not to nappy and soft but, not too staright and not to silky.

i think its ridiculously that ppl cant admit that most black mixed folks have a better grade of hair. every race has their own qualities.

Black people already have enough qualities, like full lips, great skin and etc... dang let someone else get some shine.

  • starryeyed

This is disrespectful! *major side eye*

  • FlorenceJohnston

If you want to act as if there is no historical context behind the good hair/bad hair conversation, especially in the Black community and compare it to saying a good car, it’s not even worth the debate. Be blessed.

  • ClaireHuxtable

Thank you, moren! Are these charts in the beauty supply stores?

I actually need advice on coloring my hair. I don't think I'm a candidate for totally silver hair at this point, but the grey is annoying. Any natural ideas?

  • Mita

'Good Hair' is subjective and many need to get over being so highly sensitive and reactionary and learn to to not give a damn about someone's else's opinion. It too much insecurity to be bothered about what someone else thinks about hair.

  • Mita

Considering yourself something doesn't make it true. Just like a man considers himself a woman, doesn't make it true. They are not Black and that is a fact. What one choses to consider or identify as is not factual. Especially when it ignores facts.

  • Let them eat cake

Folks deflecting and playing dumb in the comments again.

  • ClaireHuxtable

As soon as I can find me good surgeon, $500 per pop, Imma get me some like Janet Mock. The kind that just hit you in the eyes.

  • sjames

"good hair is silky soft hair that is easy to manage" I SCREAMED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

  • Floriduhh Evans

    1. I am a fan of the Mowry twins (since the 90s), that's how I know they are 50/50 mix. They have shown pictures of their parents and talked about their background in numerous interviews.
    2. The one drop rule is from white folks, what is wrong with "black" people defining themselves for themselves? This is why Rachel Doziel (or however you spell it), Cardio B and whatever random white/Latin person feel like they can claim black or disrespect us because WE HAVE NO STANDARDS and let anyone join the delegation.
    3. Its not just about looks, although lighter skinned people are NOT treated the same as darker skinned people by white or black folks. But having a white person raising you is going to influence the way you think and your allegiance. I never said that black or biracial people are better or worse.
    4. If you believe those DNA tests, which the companies will admit are NOT 100% accurate, then we are just on 2 different wavelengths. Much love.

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

Would you feel better if I replaced the word "good" with "fine" hair? Is there historical context behind the words "fine hair"?

  • PetiteButterScotch

I guess bc I’m a black woman and take care of my hair I’m not bothered like everyone else ????? But I knew it was gna cause backlash either way.

  • sjames

lol i was reading the post like "quE???" I personally have hair that is "coveted" by other ppl but i don't just wake up and go. PLUS all hair requires months, if not years, of repetitive maintenance to get it to be "manageable." it took me years for me to put my hair under a shower n the water actually touch my scalp bc it was soooo dense at the roots. i had to find a method of detangling that worked. then it took years of product combinations to get the maximum retained moisture bc my hair dries out and frizzes fast af. ppl really out here stunting as if they can TRULY wash and go with ZERO maintenance at all lol "i wake up and voila" ok girl, as if years of yo momma brushing yo hair EVERY NIGHT before bed didn't assist in the manageability

  • Larisa

    Good morning

  • Applebum

readers participated in a healthy discussion about good hair. Some of you asked "What is good hair?"
    ———————————————

    ???? I can’t with this blog.

  • sjames

bad hair is hair that is not taken care of. good hair is hair that is taken care of regardless of texture and length. fin!

  • Larisa

You’re absolutely right. It is shameful your natural hair was suppressed as a part of history and racism. And you’re definitely right about people trying to look like you all. I hope we see more black models and celebrities wearing their natural hair.

  • Applebum

If that were the case he would have said “I only F black b*****s with REAL hair” but that’s not what he said. Cut the crap.

  • T Willis

I don’t understand the logic in separating ourselves. We are all subjugated. Are their varying degrees of subjugation based on skin tones or nationalities? Absolutely, but make no mistake it’s all subjugation based on one simple fact: our lineage contains Negro blood. You can dress it up any way you like but the end result is the same. They hate you. They hate your skin tone (regardless of the shade), they hate your hair (regardless of texture), they hate that at one point your life was in their ownership - and now it’s not. They hate you and no amount of cute word play or semantics is going to change that.

You say that you’re a fan of the twins, do you know the racist comments that they get? How they taunted Tamara for her “nappy” hair? How they said that Aiden ruin his pure milky yt skin when he married Tamara? Look at those insults. Nappy hair? Tamara/Tia have the most desired texture in the black community - but yt ppl call them nappy headed. They say Tamara ruined Aiden because she’s not black. Meanwhile, in the black community they are deemed the most desirable of skin tone and hair texture. Don’t you see? Yt people do not care and do not differentiate the way that black people do. They don’t care if your blood is less than 10%, if you have even the slightest tan or curl, you are immediately marked black. Yt people determine your social, economic, and political standing in this country. We shouldn’t worry about reclassifying anything until we hold the majority power in this country. Let’s tackle that first, and then we can worry about who is or who isn’t black.

  • T Willis

I can trace my ancestry to the 17th century. In my case, my DNA test was ? accurate.

  • Shelly D

OMG black woman. Geez good hair is fresh, well maintained, hair that shines, regardless of any texture. It grows. You cut it, it grows back. She's describing fine hair, or curly hair, perhaps straight hair. Good hair can be any texture.

  • TransMichelle

No, you don't know what he "would have said." He said what he said.

  • Trace da Ace

da hell???? good hair is clean hair....that is healthy..period. No matter what color, texture, cut or style.....you dont have to have silky, wash n go hair to be classified as "good hair"...smdh....

  • Dee

This is why I don't come here much. This idiot wants to insult the magority that come here. SMDH!!!

  • MsChocCookie

There is no such thing as “Good Hair or Bad Hair” that’s a myth that society created to further degrade black women while they up lift white women. Black Woman can do anything with their hair....braid it, slick it, perm it, curl it, and gel it. On the other hand, straight hair and mixed blend curly hair like Tia’s baby girl hair, is not so easy to manage because the curls don’t lay, perms don’t stay, braids looks off, and their hair doesn’t look as full, same as with straight hair, so please stop with the good hair, bad hair mess, because out of all the races, black women hair, is the most flexible, and that aunty is good!!

  • Sushi

Anyone that has a full head or hair has GOOD HAIR...… PERIODT...…...

  • Leigh Burton

Good hair is 100% black American hair. If you are mixed with anything or have family from another country, then you do not really have good hair!

  • SumthinSweeter

    ^This!^

  • Leigh Burton

So is President Obama. And he is more white than Tamera because he has a white mother and grew up in a white household!

  • Leigh Burton

Why do you have two biracial people showing when you are talking about "good hair?" Show a picture of a 100% black celebrity with good hair!

  • Lynette Collins

Same here. It looks good when it's wet but I usually use mousse or gel to keep it like that lol. My hair is bipolar for real all through the year ????

  • SaltineCrackers

They fall for it everytime LOL

  • Dun Dilly

    don't fight it.

  • Eileen

You should post this on every billboard in our community!

  • Carla B

My family is mixed race there are more light skinned light eyed people than brown skinned. I grew up being the outcast because I have brown skin and my sisters are "yellabones". As a child adults would compliment my sisters on their skin and then say Carla you have that "good hair". I was teased about my skin not being as light as my sisters people assumed we had different dads but we don't. My mom and I have the same grade hair and we are of mixed race but we have brown skin and people over looked me when I was with my sisters. Now when I was with other brown skinned girls I was more popular because that's when you see the difference in my skin. I have been called "paper sack brown, caramel and bunch of dumb things to single me out among other brow skinned females. I found out later in life my fathers white European grandmother disowned his dad because he married his brown skinned mom. Our family has never met the European side of our family. Our family is rooted in skin color issues and who has good hair versus nappy hair and it is all very hurtful on both sides. I refuse to date a man that is attracted to my hair or light brown skin I am more than that and I understand fully how much hate comes from hair types and skin color.

  • Rita

Right! I can braid, plait, cornrow or afro my hair. Don't know ANY hair textures can do all that..

  • Ressa Chapman-brown

After working oncology for 2years..the woman who has lost her hair to chemo would read this and weep ...and remind me..that all hair is Good Hair....sad....

  • dontgetblocked

A lot of people feel the same way you do. It's popular to act like they don't. If you watch Youtube, the first people complaining about their hair are the 4Zs. They are the first to admit that kinky hair is hard to manage.

  • dontgetblocked

    She looks awful!

  • dontgetblocked

This is not nappy broken off bad hair. She has mostly good hair. The edges are laid and it grows. Wet her hair and put a conditioner or gel in her hair and it will wave up. Good hair.

  • Renee26

? I'm already covered in that area. Small waist and round booty

  • dontgetblocked

I bet you spend hours twisting your hair up every week. How is that not hard to manage?

  • facingrealit1

    I completely agree...

Dr. Vanuskian can h00k you up really good if you agree to an overnight stay. It's only $55 more[breakfast inc.].

  • Floriduhh Evans

But until we have a culture and standards we will not get that power. Trust me white folks have their tokens and special negroes who get treated differently because white people look at them as a good n***we. Why do you think most of the major "black" celebrities and public figures are mixed race? Because this is the aesthetic that is more palatable to whites. Why do you think many black public figures marry white... because it makes them more appear more accessible to whites and more "safe." I never said biracial people don't have their own struggle and yes it is related to the black struggle but it is different. Even biracial folks make the argument that they are treated like they are not black enough or white enough for the respective communities. They often talk about being confused about where they belong. Mixed folks maybe be able to pass as white. Honestly, do you think someone who looks like Jesse Williams has the same experiences as someone who looks like Wesley Snipes?

  • dru and neil

What in the hell did I just read?! Sandra you need to be spanked for this! Healthy hair is good hair, of ANY texture!

  • dru and neil

Black men have issues. PTSD from the generational, residual effects of slavery. Black women too. Black folks are f*cked I swear. I’m so sick of this good hair/light skin BS.

  • T Willis

Colorism is a byproduct of racism, facilitated by yt people. Overthrow yt ppl and suddenly racism and colorism are no longer a factor. No matter where you try to push this argument the end result is the same: yt ppl need to be removed from power majority. And the only way to do that is to stop antagonizing and creating petty arguments amongst other ppl of color. Biracials have a long standing history of fighting side by side beside blacks and identifying as black. I see no reason to change that and I see no reason to fight them when we’re in need of allies facing similar forms of racism. Maybe you need to take a step back and look at the bigger picture.

It's very weird when I hear blacks make the "mixed people are black" argument. One the one hand, you'll consider biracials as black, on the other hand you'll complain about colorism. Black women are the main group that complains about colorism, yet, they're promoting the very problem.

  • elroy

The "all AA's are biracial" is actually not true, it's just a myth.

  • elroy

    Exactly, this is common sense.

  • elroy

People should move past the colorism issue, because it's something that will, and has always existed. While colorism may have ties to racism, it's actually apart of human evolution. They've even done several test on babies, which show that their pupils dilate when viewing lighter colors. In other words, we're naturally more comfortable around lighter, brighter colors.

  • elroy

The main people talking about "good hair" are black women, not men.

No, we should not move past racism or colorism. Both exist because of a hierarchy created by yt ppl. Black ppl need to stop being petty and argumentative with other minority groups, especially when we’re all sitting in the same discriminative boat. We don’t have time for these petty dick measuring arguments over who’s more black or who’s faced worse racism. We need to focus on the underlying factors that connects us with other minority groups and go from there... so sick of these stupid strawmen arguments. How you gonna complain about racism but craft a whole post about the colorism? As if one doesn’t affect the other? And how do you speak negatively on other ppl of color, as if they don’t experience the same forms of racism as you? The idiocy is just a little overwhelming sometimes. I get the emotional aspect of the argument, but at some point you have to stop looking at just your own circumstances and see beyond that.

good hair = all hair that is HEALTHY

  • Not Today

Or someone else hair while taking out there braids

  • elroy

First off, I just gave you facts that are backed up by science, not opinion. Secondly, what do you hope to accomplish by sitting around complaining about colorism? I just finished explaining to you that humans are naturally drawn to lighter colors, which means lighter complexions are generally welcomed over darker tones. More importantly, people shouldn't have to justify there preferences. I'm not sure who or what you're referring to, but I'm not the one complaining about racism, minority groups, etc. I think it's a complete waste of time.

Stop blaming white ppl for your community problems. Do u see them blaming blacks for their opioid epidemic?

tamera did her ancestry and she had a higher percentage of european than black. she is mixed not black.

  • Miss Asian

Healthy hair, that's good hair. Fine hair is better than good hair, nappy hair is bad hair. No one has nappy hair, if so, it's unhealthy hair.

Card carrying member of team good hair. It's mine, without chemicals, clean, and groomed! If you know anything about nappturality, happycurls, or naturallycurly.com, I was a pioneer of the movement, LOL jazzijenni baby?

Not surprised by your comment considering you did write the post. Self hate is real.

  • Y’all Jealous Cuz I’m Prudy

"The lie didn't take root overnight and likewise, destroying it won't either."

You said a mouthful there. That can be applied to so many things in life.

  • AndSo

Right. It's stupid to try and rationalize here. Black hair, for the most part, is very difficult to manage. It is not silky or even pretty sometimes. It's far from ideal, but it is what it is.

  • Rhondalousey

Sandra needs her azz whooped, seriously . I cant believe that came from a black woman, smh.

  • Rhondalousey

Yesssssss! Now that is good hair.

  • Rhondalousey

Dont even try it. Yall know what that fool meant. His words are self explanatory .

  • parisjok

that is really interesting how their two babies came out with totaling different skin tones from having same bio parents. both are beautiful but look nothing alike at all. the boy looks 99% white with blue eyes I guess more like white dad and the girl is much darker with straight hair where it seems like she took after both parents more. they made pretty babies for real

  • Neicey

I just take people for what is actually said. I try not to assume the meaning. As I say what I mean and mean what I say. Naturally I apply that logic to others. No beating around bush for me. He meant keep ya shit looking nice! He like black itches and he like nice hair. No harm no foul. Respectfully IMO!

  • Leticia Castillo

Good Hair is hair that is healthy.
    Scalp has health.

I have dry and damaged hair right now!
Deep conditioning and cutting my hair every 6 weeks will help with growth.

Everyone has hair, some of us damage it more than others.

  • DLB

The hair you just described is also susceptible to being lice infested (this includes the bi-racials catching it too). No thank you.

  • DLB

They can't unless they use chemicals to do so.

  • Rita

    Thank You DLB!

  • Melanated Goddess??

What the hell are you talking about? It doesn't take me hours to do my hair fool. This is the crap I'm talking about. I know for a fact you're fat bloated legs having culo isn't black. There are other ways to achieve certain hair styles with out twisting for hours as you claim. I will not tell you how and what they are. If your ugly beastly behind were black you'd know already. It's disgusting that you're insinuating that a black woman taking the time to comb and take care of her hair means it's hard to manage! You're a jealous animal with a chip on your fat shoulders, that has issue with black women and people. You are loud, racist and wrong as usual. Fcuk you!

  • Mrs. S. O.

Auntie, they want to play dumb online. I am around Black people who constantly make a huge deal when a baby or toddler's hair is a certain texture.
