In a series of antagonistic tweets on Sunday, President Donald Trump boldly told Minnesota Congresswoman Ilhan Omar to go back where she came from if she doesn’t like being in America. But many saw his tweets as “just plain racist.”

Trump’s tweets were the latest in his online attacks on “far left” freshman Democrat Congresswomen Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Ayanna Pressley, who are at war with the older, establishment members of Congress, such as Nancy Pelosi.

“Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came,” Trump tweeted on Sunday.

“So interesting to see ‘Progressive’ Democrat Congresswomen, who originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe, the worst, most corrupt and inept anywhere in the world (if they even have a functioning government at all), now loudly… and viciously telling the people of the United States, the greatest and most powerful Nation on earth, how our government is to be run. Why don’t they go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came. Then come back and show us how… it is done. These places need your help badly, you can’t leave fast enough. I’m sure that Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements!”

The four junior Congresswomen are women of color and three of them are Americans. Trump specifically targeted Omar, who fled Somalia when she was a child. Omar is under investigation for her questionable marriage to a man who is believed to be her brother. She also filed joint taxes with her husband before they were married.

In an earlier tweet last week, Trump said that if half the allegations about Omar were true, she should not be a member of Congress.

But many saw Trump’s Twitter tantrum as just more proof that he is an unrepentant racist.

“To tell these American citizens (most of whom were born here) to ‘go back’ to the ‘crime infested places from which they came’ is racist and disgusting,” tweeted one user.

Rep. Maxine Waters said the tweet should not come as a shock to anyone given he is an “illegitimate racist.”

“I am surprised that anyone would be shocked by the racism of this president,” she said. “The president is an illegitimate racist occupying the White House who has defined himself over and over again.”
