Tyler Perry's new series Sistas is coming to BET Network, Deadline.com reports. The new series follows four successful Black women from different walks of life who bond over their longterm single status.

No photo

The news series stars KJ Smith, Ebony Obsidian, Mignon Von and Novi Brown. The four girlfriends share the same dilemma as millions of women who choose careers over raising families: "Why am I single?"

Successful divorce lawyer Andrea "Andi" Barnett (played by Smith) is the "common sense one of the group." Andi is confident, driven, ambitious, clever and witty, but she can't keep a man.

Obsidian plays Karen Mott, owner of an up-and-coming hair salon. She is street-smart, headstrong and independent, and single.

Daniella "Danni" King (played by Von) is a "ride-or-die" chick who tends to stay in everybody's business. She is street-smart, headstrong, independent and manless.

Bank teller Sabrina Hollins (Brown) is stylish and smart, but reserved and plays it safe when it comes to dating. She is the peacemaker who keeps the others grounded.

The hourlong drama is written, directed, and executive produced by Tyler Perry. Michelle Sneed is executive producer for Tyler Perry Studios.

Sistas joins Tyler Perry's other BET series, The Oval, under Perry's exclusive content partnership deal with Viacom, which owns BET.

Production is currently underway at Perry's Atlanta-based Tyler Perry Studios.

  • Virgoqween

I don’t care about this but his show about the president has my interest

  • SaltineCrackers
  • dontgetblocked

Another show depicting the black woman as desperate and unwanted. Hard pass!

  • Hot World

Where are the light skinned women lol

  • Jennifer Hudson’s Knees

Keep it. Tyler/Lee/Ava love black trauma pØr?.

  • http://thedevereauxshow.com Ms.Devereaux

Or used and abused or angry come on now we all know that’s Tyler’s MO he can’t think of anything else

  • Starburst

Why won't this air on Oprah's channel?

  • Alextra Ballard

Same ol formula just a different show.

  • Goodii2Shoes

Black trauma porn. GREAT phrase!!!! And it is certainly porn for certain people who see the bright, "lit", loving, supportive melanated women and don't find pleasure in seeing the BLESSED areas of the culture.

  • MRiGOThim

Tyler is strategic...he knows we not feeling Oprah right now so he's tryna distance himself away from her O_o

  • Starburst

Did I miss something? What happened with Oprah?

  • http://thedevereauxshow.com Ms.Devereaux

That leaving neverland mess she pulled

  • Renee Johnson

She expressed concern regarding the quality and stereotypic nature of his work.

  • the guest

    YES!!!!!

  • the guest

    Selling it to the man.

  • ALLMINE?

I'm sick of these stereotypical storylines

  • Karen Brady

Sick of this shyt. I hope we don't tune in. I know for a fact I won't.

  • Jessy

Meh...not watching. I know, more happy singles than anything. The married ones be the ones... ?? I’d rather see some happy singles enjoying life like that show Lisa Raye was on. Lol

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

I think Tyler is saying LSLH women don't have a problem finding a man.

  • Mo Laughz

So Being Mary Jane except with four women?

  • What???

This faq made his fortune off of inciting single black women zorro snappin against black men. Now he has empathy for the those same females he led 200mph into a brick wall like he had the authority to speak for black men. He ain’t shyt but a hypocritical opportunist.

  • Marlika

??????? This plot has been done 50 million times already. This will get canceled with in the 1-2 season.?????

  • Y’all Jealous Cuz I’m Prudy

People just assume all single women are miserable and most of the folks doing all of the assuming are either miserable and married or miserable and in a relationship. I know plenty of happy, single folks and they aren't sitting around waiting to be saved like most folks think.

  • Wreckognize Game

I am the single one out of all my friends. The are always calling me to escape their houses and life. I be chilling laying on my sofa watching movies and unbothered.

  • Wreckognize Game

I honestly think he picks women movies because he can come up with more female dialogue. I don’t think he knows how to portray men beyond how they look or what women expect. I wonder why?

  • Y’all Jealous Cuz I’m Prudy

I love to see healthy marriages and relationships but I also love being single because almost every married woman I know, is dealing with getting cheated on by her husband (broke and rich husbands). I just shake my head because I cant see myself constantly feeling played by the very man who promised to respect our marriage. Then some of them become mean and bitter and lash out at happy single people because they desire that peace of mind, they no longer have. Life is too short to be with someone who you hate being home with.

  • Alextra Ballard

Chiiile yew ain neva lied....when my girlfriends call and ask me dew I need want some company? I know exactly what it means. Their try’n tew get away from their significant others.

  • Alextra Ballard

    Girlfriends remix

  • Beautiful Enigma

That is the first thing I thought!

  • Hot World

    Me too wtf?!

  • Hot World

So so true. I have never known a non cheating couple. What’s the point? Titles? A break on the bills?

  • Rhyme and Reason

No thanks, Tyler, love you, but NO!

Why not make a series about women who live like doormats, toilets, ATM machines to rock that title and martial status!

Women who pay for romantic dinners and exotic getaways as they stroll hand and hand with men who cheat and rotate them, outside babies, and hopefully not on the down low!

His film Acrimony, a big fat fantasy... if the woman had only believed a little longer, she would have enjoyed his success, after 20 years of him not or barely working, spending up up her inheritance, abuse, etc.! Instead of where would she have been if she hadn’t been with him!

    No Tyler!

  • chan chan

I hear stories of regret in the nail shop every two weeks. On a really good week they will admit regretting single motherhood ??

  • http://thedevereauxshow.com Ms.Devereaux

Ummm hmmm you hit that nail on the head!

  • chan chan

They are calling to escape because they inserted themselves in men lives who didn’t really want them and most add children to the mix which make it worst.

  • Y’all Jealous Cuz I’m Prudy

Both of those you just mentioned as well as if he dies, she gets the house, life insurance and everything else. Me on the other hand, don't mind getting my own house and possibly outside properties for income purposes. It's nothing like having your own and the peace of mind that comes with it. He I got my own and he has his, then we're good and no one is feeling used or obligated to stay. Less stress. Some of these wives be having nervous breakdowns because he's making outside babies, barely coming home or every few years he gets him another side chick to cheat with. They stay for the lifestyle and pride. It's kind of sad.

  • Wreckognize Game

One of them is bored and aggravated because her grown children aren’t what she wanted them to be. The other married a used to be baller who is sitting on funds. She stays with him waiting for him to break out all the money. I be looking at my phone like not today. Bih don’t call me with all those stupid azz stories. Instead of happily ever after, her saying is that’s alright because I’m getting mine. ?

  • chan chan

Smh....I really side eye people who were dating for 5 or years then get married because there is definitely some settling from both parties.

  • abby500

It’s going to be a terrible version because Tyler’s shows are wack and poorly written

  • Trucie bedford

Regret their single status? Or regret being successful which is obviously the reason their single?? idk what to make of it.

  • abby500

It’s a no for me dawg. Tyler’s shows are kinda wack to me. And all single women are not miserable and lonely. I am single and have single friends and I NEVER hear them (or me) complain abt being single. We all have men in our lives and like them in the space they reside in and not all in ours

  • Alextra Ballard

It’s nothing wrong with not being in a relationship ....it doesn’t mean you’re lonely....right now I am definitely content...yew don’t have tew worry about bullshidt that sometimes accompanies relationships

  • http://sandrarose.com SandraRose

They can't have it both ways. Women pursue careers and neglect their true purpose in life: motherhood.

  • 2gr8ful

Ha this sounds like the new show on the Oprah channel-Ambitions.. mess.

  • Jessy

    Agreed!!

  • CardiB’sAbs

Not a fan of tyler perry productions-over acting, under acting and bad storylines. Glad to see a black man making black films though. I suggest he get better writers. Insecure on HBO is my sh!t

  • Lame Ass LA

Tyler Perry and Will Packer have figured out that all they have to do to get u women to support their boring movies and tv shows is to have it about "successful sexy black women who are bankers, marketing execs, business owners, salon owners, etc etc".....let me guess a scene; all four successful sexy black women are in the gourmet chefs kitchen drinking wine and laughing lamenting...i wonder which successful dark skin black banking executive man is gonna deceive the successful sexy single banking executive black woman...its boring...ITS BORING...Amen (church folks)...Sanford and Son (junkyard owner) Martin (DJ) Family Matters (Cop and receptionist).....the BEST shows with the BEST writing and characters have always been and will always be shows about good ole regular black people...not wine sipping boring ass "successful" blkack folks

  • Jeffery Allen

Peace!! Thank you!! I was just about to say, here’s another Blk male bashing movie from T. Perry in which the Blk male belittles the Blk woman until she gains her independence and shits on her man!! Either that and/or the Blk/Wht relationship! All of his movies show the same content that participated in destroying the Blk male image! And if he didn’t, then the Blk male was either a bus driver, some hustler, some small business owner w multiple kids and no wife and the church God fearing undercover man! When is he gonna make a Man movie about strong Blk men that handle their responsibilities w/o having to fall in statistics?! Tyler Fairy

  • KcoolMuziq

Even though Sanford & Son is one of my ALL TIME favorite sitcoms & not just because of my personal communication with Lawanda "Aunt Esther" Page. It's MORE successful single black women today then EVER before. So Tyler & Will are VERY accurate in their portrayals.

Plus the African American community will NEVER accept a low rate junk man in these day & times.

  • Kimberly King

N to the f*cking O! I said it once and I'll say it again: There's a WAR on black women in the media. They constantly want to depict us as masculine, strong, ugly and unwanted. I'm over it. I do not support Tyler and will never do so. That fake ass speech he gave at the BET awards was so lame. And everybody ate it up.

  • Honeylove123

I agree! The media always tries to depict us this way. Harkens back to slavery when they performed experiments on Black women claiming that we don’t feel pain the same way white women do. Modern gynecology was founded on this “research” (torture ?). Black women are vulnerable and feminine just like all other types of women. Not some neck rollin’, I don’t need no man bull crap. Enough already.

  • Honeylove123

Ok! I’m like what ope did? Lol. I forgot that neverland crap

  • Good day

It's gonna be stupid af. I bet $5 within the first 2 episodes, every single one gets a boyfriend.

  • Lame Ass LA

MOST black women are not banking, marketing execs and business owners and CEOs....this is all they wanna show...where are the teachers, nurses, flight attendants, assembly line workers, etc.....they only choose these boring professional careers to show black women cuz it gives them an excuse to write a scene where theyre all sitting around drinking wine...its boring and theyre boring

  • KcoolMuziq

All what U named is still a professional career. You’re just using anything as a an excuse to be negative about two men creating a classy show and not stereotypical or buffoonery. If U feel it’s boring DON’T WATCH! It’s plenty that will.

  • Lame Ass LA

Excuse me but one of those men built an empire on complete buffoonery and theres NOTHING classy about well paid single women drowning their sorrows in wine....some of u people are backwards with ur definition of "success" and "class"....earning $100,000 a year as an "executive" but having to spend it all on keeping up an image does not make one "successful" so i dont give a damn how many boring characters they create of well paid black women in these boring ass jobs. How about a black woman who operates a daycare center? Or a black woman who has a catering business out of her home? Who gives a flyin f**k about sum boogie sistah working in the banking industry. We already saw it with robin givens in boomerang as a marketing exec

  • Gloria

So basically a reboot of the show “Girlfriends,” I’ll give it s chance, I do like his other show “The Haves and Have Nots.”

  • KcoolMuziq

“Excuse me but one of those men built an empire on complete buffoonery”.

Now that he(whom married his former model baby mama ) upgraded his repertoire with hours of scripts he penned by his lonesome U still find something to complain about. Smh

  • WutizstillHERE!
  • Mama Dee’s Wig Maker

Lord who is this man? Love Samoan men!

  • Browneyes

    exactly my first thoughts

  • WutizstillHERE!

I think he is playing a role as a convict the woman thats a lawyer is helping. If you want a good view of him check him out in the second episode of Scream 3 on VH1 he plays Mary J Blige husband..but you didn't hear it from me..

  • Lame Ass LA

Yes i do...becuz i am a miserable old troll whose envious and jealous and im a hater and i like to focus on other people instead of myself...now that weve gotten that out of the way....what angers me the most isnt anyones success, ive enjoyed Madea since before he went mainstream so im definitely not mad at Tyler Perry...but heres a man who BLASTED a young black mother who spent money on a billboard to advertise herself as an actor to get his attention, she took a risk which is what u are told to do as an entertainer, and he publicly shut her down but then turns around and makes a story about young black women starring young black women in...hes not even creative enough to see that THAT was a story....an single black mother aspires to be a famous actress and drives black hollywood insane with desperate attempts at stardom while juggling work and home....WHERE HAS THAT BEEN DONE?!!? Folks would tune into that cuz its original and has potential to be funny...but NOOOOO, hed rather have more wine sippin scenes and more upscale lounge scenes with bougie black executives and fashionable folks....ITS BORING!

  • KcoolMuziq

"BLASTED a young black mother who spent money on a billboard to advertise herself as an actor to get his attention, she took a risk which is what u are told to do as an entertainer, and he publicly shut her down"

He DID NOT blast her! He told her THE TRUTH.
But it ended up working for her because she got a prime audition for one of his projects.

  • Dr. P

I am sick of BET drawing me in only to cancel shows after one season. I don't know if I can invest in it only to be let down.

  • Logan Roberts

It might be interesting if it isn't too stereotypical, but I always support Tyler Perry generous self.

  • Mimi_131

    https://media3.giphy.com/media/129dh81DDTwDn2/giphy.gif
So he doesn't have any fresh ideas for Black Women? Bet the darkskin one is loud and difficult while the light skin ones are meek and mild. Bet the dark skin men are trash while the light ones are saviors. Thanks Tyler but we've seen this a million times already.

  • Mama Dee’s Wig Maker

    Cool beans!

  • Bree

I'm all for my people working. However, I am sick of these Girlfriends, Living Single shows. We have seen the four successful single black women series before. I would love for Perry to begin hiring fresh outside assistance with these shows he is writing. If Living Single and Girlfriends are never coming back, I don't want to watch Sistas. Sorry, Tyler, I'm a fan of your work ethic and ability to employ our own, but I am tired of this.

  • ShadesofEMPRESS

I’m tired of stuff like this. People be making so much money off of us. I like Tyler but no to this.

  • Hazel

Wow. So sad to see all of these posts of people attacking marriage based on perceptions that 'married couples are unhappy", and 'married men are cheaters', and, 'you can't be both a professional and happily married'. My 25 year marriage breaks ALL of these stereotypes. I hope that the naysayers can find their peace.

  • SingleGalCrazyWorld

I dont care what anybody say's...Tyler is anti-black woman...everything he puts out on tv when it comes to us is cheating, regret, anger, being a crackhead, leaving a surprisingly buff lightskin man...Chile...he says he loves US but in reality he sees us as the enemy...

  • MistaO

Note to women: Something your feminist minded, daughter sabotaging mammas and raggity aunts refused to tell yall.

The men most of you say you (eventually) want, the high value, well put together man, cares nothing, ZERO, Zilch about your "career" or any of your accomplishments!!

The only dudes that even remotely care about a womans career is one who plans on living off of her.

Men of value really care about only a couple of things, are you cooperative? Are you beautiful inside and out? Do you keep your hygiene together (sadly, today this is not a given), are you well equipped to be a mother and wife? Are you NOT easily led and influenced by lesser females and willing to stand alone in the midst of their shaming tactics for you being a dutiful wife and mother?

If more of you were even partly capable of at least some of that basic stuff, you wouldn't be forever single.

Oh, one more thing, no man of value wants a whore, reformed or otherwise!?

  • Omandesert

There are a lot of black women in the world that are single, established and happy. Around 55 or 60 is when I wanted to jump the broom. If you have a fulfilling life and love yourself, it’s not mandatory to get married. Just enjoy the fuck out of the life god gave you.

  • MistaO

55 or 60??? Don't get me wrong, I luv ya but oh please ain't no man trying to marry any 55 year old woman!??? Yall really are delusional, it's not ok. The only man who would marry a woman this old wants to live off her, period.

Your situation is exactly why women should NOT take any advice from other females..

  • Yup, I said it

I wonder why Tyler is still single? I thought for sure he would get wifed up once gay marriage was legalized.

  • JayBird

I feel the same way about Lee Daniels. They don't not like black women and they do not like dark skin black men.

  • JayBird

I'm all for Tyler Perry but he is a terrible director. With all that money he has, can he please hire someone new and fresh and with better skills?

  • T Willis

I think he’s married to the baby mama of his son

  • T Willis

Black women have more distinct features (I don’t call them masculine lol - but they’re definitely the opposite of other ethnicities), black women are strong, and they are - based on statistics - single (unmarried) - & “ugly”? Well, that’s subjective lol... the women in the photos don’t look ugly to me ?????. Tyler depicts black women exactly as they are: independent, single, slick mouthed, and hustlers ?????
You can’t get mad when black ppl hold a mirror to black women and their behaviors.

  • T Willis

    ?

  • Let them eat cake

Here we go with the single black female narrative.

  • T Willis

I don’t care for TP’s movies/sitcoms/series etc., but he’s one of very few black men writing, producing, directing, and HIRING black actors more than once a year?.

And the sad thing is, black people will and do complain about every damn thing. If it’s not representation, it’s how you’re being represented. Now folks have a problem with too many black professionals sipping wine and making $100k a year ???. But if TP had created some “Sanford & son” pilot folks would complain that it was stereotyping blacks as poor and uncouth. Smh lol it’s always something... “that actress is too dark/light/young/racially ambiguous/fat/skinny etc etc” as a producer and a writer, how can any black person succed, creating positive black images, when the very ppl that you want to create for always coming at you with negative sh*t. If you think TP creates sh*t shows then why don’t y’all invest your money and your time to create what TP already has. It’s easy to talk sh*t on the sideline when you haven’t struggled or invested in this industry.

  • Yup, I said it

Women hating men love to drive female narratives. When white women are single we get "Sex in the City." When black women are single we get "Women of Brewster Place"

  • Gamer?? Chick

    Preach!!!

  • Yup, I said it

That's because those women are smart. A woman who has alot of money, property, assets, pension or high dollar alimony doesnt need to get married and fxck up her coins. Men have already figured that out. If you don't plan on having kids then marriage is really unneccarsy. If you want to get married for religious reasons have a religious ceremony ( in another country if you can) and don't get a marriage license.

  • Yup, I said it

If you don't plan on having kids there no need to get married

  • IChosetheBrownDollbaby

    *raggedy. You're welcome : )

  • Yup, I said it

Hes not married. Gelila is his surrogate egg donor and incubator along with being Tylers BFF.

  • Kimberly King

See. Now you finally gave me a reason to block you due to your extreme stupidity. Aren't you the same loser who things mixed people are black? I'm black and although I have a high paying job, so does my soon to be husband. I'm not the independent type. I have money but I wanna keep it. I require men to spend money and take care of me. All black women are not like that. Definitely not the ones I know. And when I say strong I mean "physically strong" idiot. Hold a mirror to yourself first, then get back at the Queen. ???

  • Yup, I said it

I don't watch BET anyway so I won't even notice. When I lived in the Mountains the cable networks didn't even subsrcibe to or offer BET so I forgot even existed.. I rather watch the ID Channel, Nat Geo all day anyway.

  • Tommy Pickles ?

You really a black girl that plays games?

  • Hot World

Real talk. A woman should come into a relationship with assets nowadays. Preferably a condo at least. If thangs go sour you’ve got the martial home and your property or if you didn’t finagle that, your condo.

  • Gamer?? Chick

    Yes.

  • Let them eat cake

    very true.

  • MRiGOThim

being cancelled since the R.Kelly & Michael Jackson productions she & Gayle put out...

  • Tommy Pickles ?

I want you to be my girl.

  • Yup, I said it

These raggedy, always gotta have a man, type women go into the new relationship with only the same pair of dirty tore up dookey stain draws they left the last realtionship with

  • Yup, I said it

Those jobs are called MIDDLE CLASS fool. Most people are middle class regardless of race. How many CEO's and VP's does a company need? The movies depict the 10% because its a movie and fictional. If we wanna watch regular normal people,we,can just watch Mona Scott and other reality TV shows. Hater.

  • Lame Ass LA

Not one sentence u wrote makes any sense on earth...please DO NOT take opioids before commenting on a Sandra Rose post....thank u

  • Gamer?? Chick

    I can’t, I’m taken.

  • Yup, I said it

    ?

  • Sircaput

I totally agree with this, he should just stick with Producer Credit and let someone else direct.

  • Karen Brady

How old are you if you don't mind my asking? I ask because you say you communcated with Aunt Esther.

  • Karen Brady

"Excuse me but one of those men built an empire on complete buffoonery" You can say that again.
