About 130 Bahamian evacuees are stranded on a devastated island after they were removed from a ferry to Florida because they didn't have U.S. travel visas.

The evacuees were left homeless after Hurricane Dorian made landfall in Abaco Island, Bahamas last Sunday. Most of the homes on the island were destroyed by Dorian's category 5 winds as high as 185mph.

400,000 are left without power, food or clean water to drink.

The evacuees were removed from the ferry at a harbor in Freeport after they were told they could board as long as they have a passport and no criminal record.

Before the ferry left, an announcement was made telling everyone without U.S. visas to disembark.

AFP/Getty Images

Investigative reporter Brian Entin for WSVN-TV was there covering the evacuation.

"Big problems on the ferry from Freeport to Florida — announcement just made that any Bahamian without a visa must now get off. This is not normal. Nornally [sic] Bahamians can travel to USA with passport and a printout of their police record. This is a mess," Entin tweeted.

News footage from inside the ferry shows the chaos as hoards of people - including children and babies - exited the ferry, carrying all of their worldly possessions in bags.

Lawmakers pleaded with President Trump to waive the rules so the evacuees can board a ferry to Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.

The Bahamas is not a U.S. territory like the U.S. Virgin Islands.

  • WhoKnew

No compassion for people left in this country, huh? Wow. Very sad.

  • Facts and Receipts

Saw this early this morning and sent it to my sister circle with a caption of: The shit is starting.

    Heartbroken man. Just...I cant

  • Dontgetdraggedputa??

There will be a day when us Americans need the same compassion we have denied so many. This is so fcking sad. I loathe this president his party and their dumb dunb sheeples.

  • Rere

Soooo this ain't an emergency situation?! Who would have a passport in these type of conditions ????damn.

  • http://www.NeCola.Mayvenn.com Chile_Pleeze

they aren't Swedish looking,,.. sooo yeah no compassion from the powers that be

  • Yup, I said it

Meanwhile the USA maintains immigrant camps with Medical care, teachers, family housing units, lawyers are provided for the minor children ans they even dispense femine hygience products daily to illegals at the Southern Borders between Mexico.

  • MsPam

This makes me sad, Puerto Rico didn’t get that much help. I can only imagine what these people will get. I hope Trump can have some empathy for the people of Bahama. Praying for all. ??

  • Alextra Ballard

I totally agree...some probably did but was destroyed dew tew the hurricane. folks entire livelihood is gone.....this alone should have been an exception instead of a rule

  • Yup, I said it

Or Latino. They don't treat the Latinos like that. The ACLU and La RAZA would files lawsuits before they could turn the boat around.

  • Yup, I said it

Look at how they treated the victims of Katrina. They were called "refugees." How is an American Citizen dislocated to Atlana considered refugee?

  • jeniefrumdabloc™
  • Notatall

Yes it should have been... there really are some cruel hearted people in the world

  • Yardgirl
  • Yup, I said it

Now where is the Alphabet gang at? Why don't they ever support the mistreatments. and injustices of blacks and other minorities? Considering how powerful they are they certainly can help make a difference.

  • Coy little wink

What about the thousands of people already here with expired visas...oh they probably got the complexion for the protection ?

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

I have seen footage of those camps..... the women there are even bleeding on themselves because feds want even give them sanitary napkins..... is this a sarcasm post .... those folks in those camps are treated like animals (inhumane) and folks getting sick ..... and they are in human cages ..... you think that's a deal??? and the kids are being raped ...... they ain't telling that part either .... some of the children were snatched from their mothers ..... modern day enslavement is what that shyt is ..... shid .... those camps are living hell for those people ........ https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/fe3705274875724476bcb8621031f6eb8d366928a9371ae280b9387a1953b11c.gif

  • thatonechick_

This is sad and so wrong! Should not be happening.

  • WhoKnew

True. These people probably lost everything and then they're put through this Trumpism shyt. SMDH.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

Not with that nutbag running this country ....... smfh !!

  • Yup, I said it

These people have nowhere to go. They can't return home when their whole island is destroyed. American should have something in place for the disasters that happen in the Caribean but we dont. However if a Cuban makes it to the USA they are automatically allowed to stay based on the "wet foot, dry foot policy." ?

  • WhoKnew

Right. This has his handwriting, lunacy and mental illness written all over it.

  • WhoKnew

"they probably got the complexion for the protection".
    __________________________________________

    True. ?

  • gellie

Cuba enjoys great privilege under US Immigration Law. All they have to do is get here, and they can stay. They go to the front of the line in EVERYTHING. They get authorization to work within a few months, permanent residency (Green Cards) with a couple of years, and US Citizenship in about 5 years. It's been that way for decades, which is why they have such a strong presence in South Florida, and are politically very influential. They also tend to vote Republican, which is why you hear almost nothing from them about Wet Foot/Dry Foot and the open borders for Cubans.

  • Alextra Ballard

Another reason why these poor folks are trying sew desperately tew flee the island is because of the stench of dead bodies.....they say the smell in the air is unbearable...they stated only animals can live there now. Smh???

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

People are inhumane in the U.S. ....this don't shock me .... and may they rot in hell !!!! sick of folks

  • WhoKnew

You hope who will have some empathy? He somewhere talking to all 19 of his personalities probably laughing at the plight of these people.

  • gellie

These islands look like somebody dropped a nuke on them.

  • Elevated Soul

Britain come get your people...We need no more stragglers looking for handouts. We booked to capacity. The Bahamas has numerous islands, start anew.

  • WhoKnew

Don't it make you sick? It's disgusting to read about the hardship these people face after losing everything.

  • chris

Uk needs to step in and help their old colony

  • Elevated Soul

Puerto Rico got a lot of help but they were so corrupt that the money/and most help never reached the people there.

  • chan chan

There are other world leaders besides the people in America. Funny no other countries coming to their aide? no need to be an akata over here.

  • Yup, I said it

Even the airport was crumpled. These people are desperate and they can only travel by boat since the airport is shut down. Of course they come to the closest place of refuge.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

Now if these were people coming from Norway, I wonder if they'd be treated the same way.

  • chan chan

I have a friend from Norway, they sent his illegal azz back last year.

  • Yup, I said it

Omg, and the dead bodies breed disease and sickness. Its a humanitarian crisis.

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

True but getting them off that island is matter of life or death.
There is no where to live and the dead bodies are going to take a while to recover so it's going to be a health hazard until they bring enough equipment to the islands to move the rubble so they can get to the bodies then bury the remains.

  • Sushi

    I must say I agree...…...

  • Yup, I said it

Their airport was destroyed making,it hard for plane to go but cruise ships have been delivering supplies.

  • jeniefrumdabloc™

The same mess was done with Katrina victims .... I'm not shocked in da least with the U.S. SMFH!

  • Facts and Receipts

They have been from up under British rule since the 70s.

  • chan chan

I would say great excuse if it was year 1900 it’s 2020 world leaders can get what ever they want accomplished let’s not mention their military.

  • Yup, I said it

People better open their eyes. Only the darkest skinned immigrants are sent packing. I have heard,of incidents where the coast guard will turn the boats right on around and send them back into the ocean.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

Bahamians normally don't need a visa. Normally Bahamians can travel to USA with passport and a printout of their police record.

  • Yup, I said it

You know what, the USA needed help during 911 and Katrina and the other nations did help. They didn't leave us hanging.

  • Facts and Receipts

UK has come to their aide. Britain’s Royal Navy is there.

  • Cricket404

Why didn't the Queen of England send a vessel?

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

The UK is in the middle of a major political crisis of its own making so they are preoccupied right now.

  • Bree

This is sad. I really have no words for this.

  • Phillybruh

I mean the difference is these people don't want to come here to live, if not for the hurricane they were fine where they were. Let them come temporarily and then send them back when its not so bad.

  • Phillybruh

    Absolutely not.

  • Facts and Receipts

She sent a Royal Navy. Is that not good enough?

  • Phillybruh

lol how you managed to bring the gays into this is amazing. stupid but amazing.

  • Jefferey Franklin

    Sounds about white

  • ZRoJoTheLezBeyond
  • Karen Brady

    lol

  • Karen Brady

This is sad. Just devastation upon devastation. Such lovely people and I'm sorry.

  • fawkery

Watch your mouth....some of you are so disrespectful!! Literally, all skin folk ain't kinfolk. Bet you will be an "akata" all day for benefits belonging to us based on the blood our ancestors spilled in this country.

  • Yup, I said it

Those videos were produced and sent out by the lawyers that represent the illegal immigrants btw. Not the ACLU not LA RAZA, not the Embassy for the countries represented claiming human rights violations. But lawyers. I take what the lawyers say with a grain of salt because they are billing the US taxpayer. Why are the immigrants provided with free lawyers? I have to pay for my own lawyer, what about you?

  • chan chan

    ???

  • chan chan

    As they should be.

  • Evillene

Or better yet. Why doesn't the U.K. intervene with the U.S. on their behalf? We have a "special relationship" that it should leverage to provide safe passage for citizens of its commonwealth.

  • SugarFoot a.k.a Ty

Sending love and positive energy! I swear I can't wait to get off this planet :( People are so detached and inhumane.

  • Lea

I feel so bad for them, truly! They were not trying to come and stay, heck they just needed to get warm shelter and food and lets not forget water. Let's make America great again my tail feather! This is heartbreaking to say the least. :(

  • chan chan

The natural black citizens of America like myself are not akata. I’m talking about all the black immigrants coming over here having the nerve to call us akata when they are the real akata.

  • fawkery

I'm a black american lol so I thought you were calling us an "akata" so I had to g check real quick. Glad we are all on code

  • Cricket404

    Supplies, not a way out.

  • Rayne

How the hell can they find a damn passport in all that rubble and trash???? Mofos are heartless. Smh.

  • Li-Wright

The Bahamian govt should step up, start making passports & visa at least on a temporary basis. People will just have to be patient. We live in this instant society, where everybody expects things to happy overnight and it doesn't work like that.

  • Li-Wright

I'm going to take the opposite view. They should have family or friends in the US they can stay with Temporarily, like the Haitians and others under Obama before they are allowed in the country. HOW are they going to live? WHO will support them? There are several other islands, Nassau for one, where people can go. I don't believe that all those folks don't have family on the other islands.
Otherwise, they will be staying in a tent city when they get to Fla.

  • chan chan

I figured there was a misunderstanding. ? whenever I call African immigrants akatas ?they look real stupid. Can’t call me a stray cat on my own phucking soil.

  • Facts and Receipts

Quite a few countries are coming to their aide. So not sure where you got no countries are coming to their aide. Brits, Canada. China wants to but that would put them less than 50 miles from the US mainland. Which ups their chances of getting intelligence on us. So USA will step up eventually, to prevent that from happening if for no other reason. Trump most likely gonna wait to see what everyone else gonna do first.

  • Li-Wright

There are other islands they can be transported to. 76,000 people is not a lot of people to spread out among the other islands.

  • Li-Wright
  • chan chan

Well people crying and complaining because America isn’t getting involved. You confirmed more than enough help is over there so I don’t understand the crocodile tears.

  • Li-Wright

The UN is coming to their aid, that is the "world leaders". Do you mean the millionaire world leaders?

  • Li-Wright

It did send the Royal Navy. Do you know how LONG it takes to ship from England to the Bahamas. I believe they also flew planes there.

  • chan chan

Like I mentioned at the bottom they have more than enough help. So why are ppl upset because the U.S isn’t helping. Bahamas isn’t apart of the U.S.

  • fawkery

LOL!!! Facts because I definitely don't even have a term for black immigrants so I get real sensitive at wild words being thrown at us for no damn reason! We good fam, appreciate your vigilance!!

  • Li-Wright

For all talking about the Brits not doing anything to help, read this:
    https://www.thesun.co.uk/news/9873108/royal-navy-hurricane-dorian-children-rescued-bahamas/

    https://www.maritime-executive.com/article/royal-navy-brings-disaster-relief-assistance-to-bahamas

You know....it takes TIME to process information and get a supply chain going. You just don't fly down there, or ship down there in a matter of days....please, people need to be considerate.

  • Yup, I said it

Hahaha, so your cute AND slow to make a connection ? Apparently when you cant connect the dots you hurl insults? Bless your little ?. Stay mad in your raggedy Philly row house.
    Bye Sis. ?

  • Carrington

I've been thinking about my grandma since last night when they called me to say that her favorite child was in the hospital on a vent (we suspect he's already gone)... I woke up this morning and thought, "I wonder if grandmother is happy to finally have the prodigal son with her... I'll bet she is."

She's been on my mind all morning. Whenever I would speak to her or see her she would always sing, "Red biiiiiird" because everyone in the family calls me Red.

I just got an alert from my doorbell and look what flew onto my front porch (and slammed into the door so loud that I could hear it on the video)... for some reason it looks a little orange once I uploaded it to youtube, but he's as red as can be... I LOVE that.

Either she's telling me that he made it on through, despite what we all were concerned about, or telling me he hit a wall and didn't.
    https://youtu.be/LGI7uuJ0R88

  • Li-Wright

The Bahamas is NOT OUR PROBLEM. THEY ARE NOT OUR TERRITORY. THE US IS GIVING HELP OUT OF THE GOODNESS OF THEIR HEART. But normally, if you read the news, ALL countries give help to on one country or nation if there is a disaster. There is also the UN which is down there. Logistically, the ships and planes CANNOT get to the island to get to the people and evacuate. Have you seen the devastation?

  • Facts and Receipts

Supplies and food and water is normally what a humanitarian effort makes. Nobody can just send a ride to pick up 70k people Cricket. Come on now.

  • Phillybruh

The UN is helping. People need to read and listen....people are not paying attention.

  • Chaseboogie The Prince

I love that story. I'm also said about the coffee pot. Maybe the two go hand and hand. There may have been a reason you were late and couldn't get to work earlier. Maybe the bird running into your your is part of the crazy day, week, but in the end just your grandmother using whatever means possible to speak with you. Thanks for your positive story and I will keep you in my positive thoughts and prayers.

  • goheadwiththat

Oh wow. That gave me chills

  • Phillybruh

Some of those islands are not equipped for that many people at one time. They simply do not have the resources the United States does. And its hurricane season your putting them right back into the same potential situation.

  • Facts and Receipts

Umm the other islands of the Bahamas are damaged too. Abaco is just the worse. Like you just rudely asked Philly below...can you read? Check Youtube, CNN, ABC news for the latest.

*BTW who the hell lists YOUTUBE as a source of news information, not only period, but first.

  • Li-Wright

Yes, but there are some 5 or 6 islands. Some of them are barren. There are some 700 islands and cays in total (of which 30 are inhabited)

  • Li-Wright

There are some 700 islands and cays in total (of which 30 are inhabited)

  • Phillybruh

So now send them to desolate islands....lol

  • ………

Those wypipo people want those islands.... Remember Trump tried to acquire Greenland? I guarantee when the water is gone.... Those wypipo will be down there trying to buy discounted land instead of assisting in rebuilding ppl homes on their land. Smh....Praying for everyone!!!

  • CookieMobster

My Mee Mee sends me red birds. I KNOW she does. My poppa sends me lady bugs. Well he used to. He has been dead since 2001. about 2 years ago, they stopped coming. I don't know if that means he was reincarnated (don't really believe in that) or his made it to another level of heaven or what. I'm sure grandma and uncle are strolling hand in hand now.

  • Li-Wright

Have any of you been to the Bahamas? I haven't been in some years, but when I did travel I remember there were several islands. The most commercial and dense are Freeport Grand Bahamas & Nassau and there are some little islands. They have fishing businesses. The problem is getting to the people through all the ruble and getting the people on boats and airplanes to be transported to the other islands. Most of the people in the Bahamas have family all through the islands and in Miami. Once the disaster was OVER, then the planes and boats could get through, but they had to wait for the hurricane to pass over.....GEEZ!

  • SugarFoot a.k.a Ty

Yep and from my understanding most of those houses couldn't be insured due to the location.

  • ………

Set up where? Lol.. The place is damaged.. And it's an Commonwealth Country as of 70's..... Meaning I'm not sure if the British would have copies of their vital office

  • Facts and Receipts

So anybody can walk up and be like Im Sally and I need a passport. I need a visa.

Sally has no birth certificate. Sally has no identification. It says those sans a criminal record, so there are NO fingerprints on file for Sally. Sally was on the roof of her house trying to live with her husband and kids not even 4-5 days ago. So she wasnt thinking about getting those things. But I guess the govt should just go with God huh and PRAY that Sally really isnt Mary.

  • Li-Wright

Those people know their people. It's a very close-knit nation.

It will take at least a decade for them to rebuild correctly.

That's some bs!!!!! I believe you bc... Insurance companies hate insuring homes on islands bc of Hurricane Season... Research shows over the past few Hurricanes that happened.. Like Katrina ~ ALL PRIME LOCATIONS. So ?

  • CrucianJ

That is exactly what happened in the US Virgin Islands after we were hit with two hurricanes in 2017. We are a US territory so we had FEMA agents, electrical workers from different states, contracted and may others come to aid in the recovery process. Lots of locals were selling their destroyed homes to wypipo because they couldn't wait out the recovery process.

Patience and knowledge is a great value. The value is in the land and lots of young people home were the ones selling. They inherited property that was paid for and sold it for little to nothing.
I inherited my Mom's house a few months before the hurricanes. We lost the roof during the second storm and FEMA offered me a $25,000 loan to repair the roof but I had to give them the deed. I refused and was able to get a personal loan through my credit union in Florida to cover all the repairs. Even the government is in on the scam. You default and they own a property they can now sell.

    Truth!!!!

  • 2gr8ful

Being from the Bahamas and one who still has family and friends missing there are many people that I know that have no family or friends on the other islands. I know for a fact many who have family members living in the US and only had family in the Northern Bahamas who either perished, are trying to leave themselves or are still missing. Not everyone knows someone in Nassau.

  • 2gr8ful

You do know some of our thirty can only be accessed by private boat and private plane correct? Please stop posting ignorant information

  • Li-Wright

You haven't read all my comments, have you. I said that just. That the islands can only be accessed by plane and boat.

  • 2gr8ful

Praying for the missing people, hopefully they can be found if still alive. There are children still looking for their family hopefully they can be reunited. My best friend called right before the storm and said she felt she was going to die as water was already seeping in but thank God her and her family made it out. She and other family members survived with just the clothes on their back. They need all the prayers and support right now.

  • Bushbabe

This what I'm thinking. With all the islands in the Caribbean and latin America why not go there? America is the fat cow that everyone wants to milk. There is more racist in Mexico and Latin America and that is the reason they don't go there.

  • 2gr8ful

Exactly my best friend made it out with her 4 month year old strapped on her back, husband and two other kids. She said they tried to hold on to the documents but in a life or death situation they had to swim. No one holding on to nothing but dear life.

  • Cricket404

I didn't realize the number homeless was so high, article states it was 100+stranded. My point is Bahamas is the richest Caribbean county, UK's help should be plentiful and accommodating.

  • 2gr8ful

I read your comments. They cannot be accessed by just any boat or plane. Some of the 30 are private and cannot be accessed by anyone. You stated that “30” in response to these affected people had options and you did not believe they had anywhere to go, the other islands were not an option. Like I said in my earlier thread on your same post not everyone in the Bahamas has family and friends in any other island and they literally had no where to go.

  • 2gr8ful

Your people?? The Bahamas was independent from Britain since 1973.

  • 2gr8ful

That is correct. These people were unfortunately sent back because travel by boat does not allow police record as a form of documentation just by plane.

  • Mr.LeBrickJames

That is true. My issue is that these people are fleeing a humanitarian crisis. So we should have been able to issue them even just a 3 month visa to stay here, on a humanitarian basis. Just seems like the right thing to do. But I guess only latinos (and Cubans in particular) can expect such favorable treatment.

  • Elevated Soul

They still have ties to Britain!!!....They are not the responsibility of AMERICAN TAXPAYERS--K!

Bottom line is that their leaders need to get themselves together and rebuild,if they want to stay on that low lying island.

  • RealATLPeach36

    I’ll take that fat baby

  • RealATLPeach36

I’m happy for you and your friend ??

  • Rayne

That is so sad. Glad her and her family made it out safe.

  • RealATLPeach36

Well is the pie is for sale I want some. Give my son some Caribbean land.

  • Junkanoo

Glad your friend and family are ok the entire situation is overwhelming.

  • Sushi

I'm all for helping other countries. but can we help our OWN.Puerto Rico still in shambles or have we forgot... You have people over here looking for work, with education, and work experience, but struggling, to make ends meet. if they need rental assistance, food stamps or a hand up they cannot get it because we are trying to take care of people from other countries. AND trust me I BELONG TO NO PARTY.... But I do see an issue when we are helping everyone else and cannot help our own....

  • Renee Bee

Major U.S. cities were speared from the full force of Hurricane Dorian. If the Hurricane had wobbled to the West many people may have also lost everything.

I suffered through Hurricanes Irma and Maria two years ago I know how hopeless and fearful they feel.

Trump needs to ask King Poseidon for the visas, birth certificates and passports.

    Prayers sent up.

  • Elevated Soul

Exactly and they even have other islands. The bottom line is that and my statement will be most definitely politically incorrect: Black leadership in these countries don't know how to run shyt and these Black foreigners know that..I'm all about ADOS.....Britain need to come and get their people.

  • Elevated Soul

President Trump is the President of America, not the Bahamas...Also had the hurricane affected Americans, they couldn't go to those countries.I feel for these people but America is already taking care of a bunch of illegal aliens.

  • Skin Deep Beauty

    Umph!

  • starbright9449

Most of them were Haitians, if not all.

  • starbright9449

The only land they can buy is what is already owned by thr government. When everything is cleared up, the people can sell to the government IF they choose to. We Bahamians take our own government to court.

  • Eileen

    I agree with you 100%
If Trump is so racist why come here?
If Trump is a dump why not leave the country?

  • Eileen

    but isnt Trump a racist?

  • starbright9449

You're right, all of the records are on file. Those people better have their NIB numbers and know who their grandmothers were. What comes out of their mouths better be on file in the registrar's system.

  • starbright9449

We have had planes going in and coming out. So far over 2,000 people evacuated and counting.

  • starbright9449

Vessels are taking people as well to other islands so planes and ships are getting in and out.

  • starbright9449

We still answer to the crown.

  • starbright9449

Actually Dorian's winds went up to 202mph.

  • starbright9449

Our entire population is pushing near 400,000 so if TWO islands were flooded and affected, how is 400,000 displaced? That would mean that the entire Bahamas is displaced which isn't true. We have over 700 islands and cays and over 30 inhabited. Sigh.

  • http://thedevereauxshow.com Ms.Devereaux

Humph while the black folks was busy talking shiiit about the messicans they forgot one thing this whole ban illegals was really geared toward those shiittt hole countries that are ran by black men as trump so eloquently put it. They using messicans as the disguise this ban the illegals and not allow any immigrants in is mostly affecting African immigrants they only showing you the messicans so the blacks will be on board. That’s all I gotta say bout that

  • http://thedevereauxshow.com Ms.Devereaux

    Peace out ??

  • Yup, I said it

I dont think the people in the back heard that.

  • Yup, I said it

Those legs are just as chubby. Like Porsha Williams baby

  • rayne215

Bahamas, an independent country, isnt Americas problem.

  • Bushbabe

If he is one, he is very bad at it. First step act passed was to total opposite of the Democrats mass Incarceration action that targeted the black men for low level crimes . Black people are doing better than when there was a sudo black man in office. He has more women in high level advisor roles than any other administration . But tell me how is it that with a black man in office Flint never got clean water? Why is Bmore filled with filth and rats and ch9 breaking crime records with mass shootings that go un reported? Sometimes skin folk ain't kin folk. Kwame Kilpatrick desemated Detroit and he was black. Black men are killing each other more than anything and planned parenthood is killing record numbers of black babies. Margaret Sanger who started planned parenthood used to speak at clan rallies . But you think The Donald is racist? If he was racist why did he offer jessie Jackson an office for his rainbow coalition? Why were black activists so willing to work with him?

  • Yup, I said it

Ppl are cruel till it happens to them. Then the act the pure fool.

  • Man Listen

People forgot the part.... NONE OF US OWN THIS COUNTRY....tuhhh y'all screamin take care of our own....meanwhile cops killings " yall own".... you wont even support "yall own" best friends small business...I hate people? gtfoh

  • Man Listen

    Me too ????????

  • Li-Wright
  • Li-Wright

It seems if you're black or brown DJT thinks you're a bad person.

  • Li-Wright

Are you from the Bahamas? Did the people prepare for the hurricane and have survival backpacks? The backpacks would have their visas, passports, Birth certs, food, clothing, etc. I hope the people prepared for it.

  • Li-Wright

Only 7000 were Haitians living on the island. See my video above from MSNBC. I just hope everybody had a survival backpack.

  • Ayeola George

At a time like this it is the humane thing to do. I did not lose my roof in Maria- therefore I was not as badly affected as most. I live on the island of Dominica. Many Dominicans relocated to St. Lucia, Antigua, Trinidad etc. They went to school, stayed with friends and family and in some cases complete strangers. Once things started to regularise back here, people started coming back home. I think there is a misconception here that every islander wants to come to America and live. I did that and without correct papers it is very hard life.... some people just need a break to get their mind right, take care of themselves and their kids and come back home to paradise.

  • Ayeola George

because the island is destroyyyyeeeddddd ... do ya'll not get that ... not even the water is good to drink .. its a temporary fix... these people were homeowners, paying mortgages and shit. stop acting like Caribbean people never had nothing for themsleves... they did ok,,,, they just don't have it NOW and they need a solution NOW .. I am sure CARICOM countries will welcome them .. if they want to come ... cause at the same time some Bahamians because of their proximity to America also look down on 'down island' folks... still whatever their attitude, they deserve some help.

  • Ayeola George

Listen, after Maria, we had two windows blown out due to debris flying from a neighbours home. We had $4000 in damage. The insurance company said we had to pay $5000 first...

  • Sushi

And I totally understand that, I am so sorry for what you went through and I pray GOD that you were made whole. However I have been on both sides of the coin, I was homeless for 2 years sleeping in my car because I was young and dumb made some mistakes and instead of moving back my parents home in Atlanta, I decided to remain in Indianapolis, and sleep in my car for 2 years, no one knew I was homeless the entire time and I was managing a call center . I have also been misplaced by a hurricane and had to suffer for 3 months again sleeping in my car. What I have noticed is that we America have a lot of homeless and still misplaced people in our own country that cannot get a hand up out of their situation, because we are extending our resources to other countries... I am not saying we should not financially help, or send supplies not at all that Is the right thing to do, but moving people in to our house and having them live off of the tax payers for Lord how long, that an issue makes, especially when we have our own homeless problems.

  • 2gr8ful

    Thank you.

  • sweetfaceislandgal

    Exactly

  • sweetfaceislandgal

Sigh. Yep let em know chile.
We Bahamians LO?E our family of 700 islands and cays. Thank you sincerely to everyone who is reaching out to assist those who have been displaced in Abaco island and Grand Bahama island. Bahamians are allowed to travel from Nassau Airport and Freeport Airport to the United States with a police record certificate OR a U.S. B2 multiple entry Visa. The U.S. visa would only be required if they intend to board a cruise departing from a U.S. cruise port (e.g. a Carnival Cruise out of Port Everglades Fort Lauderdale) or if they are taking a flight from a foreign country flying into the United States (e.g. fly from Jamaica to Miami). I can speak for myself in that I like visits to the United States but would never try to overstay their illegally. I respect any country's laws worldwide when I travel to them. Therefore, I expect the same from any nationality of people who wish to visit my country The Bahamas. Bahamians have always had an excellent friendly warm respectful relationship with the United States that's one of the reasons why we have U.S. preclearance lounges in Nassau Airport and Freeport Airport. Bahamians who are currently due to hurricane Dorian staying with their family or friends in the United States know it is temporary and true Bahamians will respect U.S. laws and leave that country by the 30days or whatever deadline President Trump has granted them and will return to The Bahamas to try and rebuild their homes and lives with the generous assistance of all of us and kind donations from others worldwide. May God bless all of you and the United States for temporary assistance to our citizens for humanitarian reasons. ???????
