Isaiah Washington publicly switched political parties after decades of registering as a Democrat. The 56-year-old actor explained why he abandoned the Democratic Party and doesn't care if you cancel him.

The Grey's Anatomy actor says he's joined the "Walkaway movement," a movement dedicated to helping Black people leave the Democratic plantation.

He explained his newfound political affiliation in an interview with Fox Nation's "Nuff Said with Tyrus".

Nicky Nelson/WENN.com

Washington said he decided to leave the plantation because Democrats aren't doing enough for Black people.

"Walking away is a sacrifice," Washington said. "There's a risk and there's a penalty for it, but you have to walk away when it matters ... and the reason I chose to walk away from the Democratic party ... is that something doesn't feel right."

Forty Seven/WENN.com

Later, Washington took to Twitter.com to defend his decision.

"Judging by a certain demographic on social media, you'd swear my last interview on @foxnation was declaring that EVERYONE #WalkAway from @PopeyesChicken chicken sandwiches FOREVER," he joked.

He added: "The 'Cancel Culture' is self-defeating. I mean, if I've been 'Cancelled' more than 4 times, doesn't logic dictate that I was never 'Cancelled' at all? I mean, why keep letting me know that I'm 'Cancelled', if you 'Cancelled' me 4 times ago? Please look up the word 'indifference.'"

He continued: "I dated a woman that was addicted to crack. I became addicted to trying to save her. She stole from me and disappeared for days, worrying me to death. I really loved her and when I tried to reason with her to get her help, she refused, berated & attacked me much like Black [Democrats]."

I am not even surprised by him saying this. Not everyone needs to be a Democrat. I am all for independent thinking but to go so far as to say Republican. I can vomit ?

He's always been outspoken and it's nothing wrong with that. Whatever floats his boat I guess? At this point in my life and almost 50 years on this earth, I think both the democrats and republicans are full of shit.
As far as him being cancelled, he was "black balled" a long time ago after that Grey's Anatomy issue.
Mr. Washington, do you and please stand your ground and do not come back retracting. Just because he's not a democrat does not make him a coon. That word is so easy to throw around. Find another one please...

Okay if you want to walk away from being democrat to being independent but to republic, that's no better! It's a step backwards. Neither have us as top priority but Republican party damn sure doesnt. Too join after them nominating and elected trump, nope! I never fell on board with his opinions and philosophy but this one isnt a definite no. Coon by yourself

  • Jai

Right! He wont be missed tbh. Good enough actor but too problematic.

  • dontgetblocked

This is why President Trump won in 2016 and will win in 2020. The Democratic party is out of control and has become to liberal. We're leaving the party and voting as Independent sor as Republicans. You'd be surprised how many black folks secretly voted for Trump or chose not to vote at all!

What I find interesting about the "democratic plantation" defection movement is that these people can't tell you a SINGLE thing republicans are doing for black folk EXCEPT roll back any programs that benefit us.

What I find particularly interesting about black republicans who refuse to be on the "democratic plantation" is that these people seem to be oblivious to the fact that ONE HUNDRED PERCENT of RACISTS support the republican party. ONE PERCENT of racist organizations back Donald Trump.

PLEASE, in all of your infinite wisdom, tell me why RACIST people would support a party that supports black people. Tell me why a racist would support a man who is trying to UPLIFT black folk. MAKE THAT MAKE SENSE... I'll be back for some answers.

There used to be a time when you kept your vote to yourself and just took pride in voting. Once Pres Obama was elected, it was assumed that all black people voted for him. The black lash came when they discovered a lot of whites also voted for him. Then comes the birther movement and the pitchfork carriers wanting to claim their stolen land back with them as the leaders again. They act as if they should be the only ones at the helm and try to put minorities back in a place that they imagine us to belong. Now every day is Us against Them politics.

ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION hurts the black community b/c they send the illegals into our communities not the rich white liberal communities, pushing LBGTQRSTUV AGENDA on us and our children helps destroy the idea of the nuclear family that we so badly need. "Gun CONTROL" we all know new gun laws will be targeted at black men locking more of us up. Idk why any black person votes Democrat??????????????????????????

Correction: I vote based on POLICY,not PARTY which is why I'm an Independent.I'm not oppressed at all and exactly what programs are helping Blacks who want to help themselves? There are a thousand Baltimore's and Flint's ran by Democrats,so what the fukk is you talking about?

The KKK was created by the Democratic Party and it was they who had the confederate flags. Margaret Sanger was a Democratic Creation who was supported by Democrats & The KKK while she plotted using abortion to kill off Black people....One of the biggest obstacles many Blacks have is YOUR IGNORANCE to the FACTS because of your FEELINGS.

Black Power? What the fukk is you talking about.? Black Power went out with Black Wall-Street and it was White Democrats who rode on them and destroyed Blacks building wealth in Oklahoma as well as elsewhere.

You are the typical illogical non thinking Black Democrat. The Democratic Establishment has thrown your Black azzzzzzzzzzzzes away for a bunch of illegal alien and yet like a STRAIGHT COON you still CAPE for that party. There is no HOPE for minds like yours which is why I rarely waste time with such a mind.

I'm not sure why he felt the need to announce this, other than the fact that he's an arrogant narcissist. He has no influence and is known for being bitter, mad, and full of rage. So, most people would've already thought that he was a Republican. But at this point, his opinions are just as irrelevant as his career.

  • The Art

Fun fact: the Republican party that you're referring to is actually the Democratic party of today. They just swapped names. Research it.

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

LOL. You have all of the conservative talking points down but answer me this:
Why are Republicans against arresting the owners of companies that employ illegals?
Last month several companies in Mississippi were raided and almost 700 illegals were arrested but not one owner.
Vulture capitalism is the biggest threat to the nuclear family because most jobs haven't seen a wage increase when inflation is taken into account over the past three decades.
I guess you don't mind Republicans holding the line against allowing former felons the right to vote which disproportionately impacts black men and black men are already disproportionately impacted by laws that don't allow felons to own firearms so what other lie do you have to type today?

  • Wreckognize Game

I wonder what he said in the DM?

  • Carrington

What's interesting about YOUR illogical rant is that same old talking point about where the democrats STARTED holds no weight here either. Where are the democrats and where are the republicans NOW. If you have to take your intellectual a$$ back 100 years in order to big up the republican party - then you're as ridiculous as your rant. You "vote for policies"...? The very important part of that rant is that you left off the response to the actual QUESTION that was posed.

See, "coon" comments don't move me, particularly when coming from someone who likely stands next to a group of racists and has convinced their OWN selves that these racists are looking out for them.

In my Vivica Fox voice, "WHATS THE PROCEDURE FOR VOTING FOR THE REPUBLICAN POLICY AIMED AT HELPING AFRICAN AMERICANS...?"

You vote for policies, huh? WHAT policy does the REPUBLICAN party have that is designed to benefit black folk? Coon comments don't affect me, particularly when you have to go back to where someone ORIGINATED in order to try to justify standing with a party who tells you OUT LOUD that they don't give a f*ck about you. SHOW me the money, don't talk around it.

The proof ain't in talking points that are flat out lies like, "Black unemployment...." when the REALITY of those lies is that you don't have a SINGLE policy that created this surge in black unemployment - it just happened to BE...

And, as far as the "blacks who want to help themselves" comment... well, I mean, coon is apropos in this scenario, IF I were going to use that term to define it.

How IGNORANT do you have to be to suggest that black folk who aren't doing well simply don't WANT to when the very people trying to vote down all of the programs that help people who aren't doing well, are the very CAUSE for them not doing well. Oppress TF out of me, deny me that which you continually pass around amongst yourselves... then start saying $hit like, "You can do anything you want to do - IF you want to do it!" GTFOH! Your racism and BS keeps your foot on my neck, the system is designed to work against me, then when I have to partake in the programs that WILL help me, you take that away and then reiterate that tis all because I don't WANT to do better.

THAT works the same as the republican party being pro-life - while you're pregnant - but, then saying, "F*ck you! You're on your own cause ain't no food stamps, welfare, medical care, child care, etc to help you.." after you give birth.

"We're going to defund planned parenthood that helped with contraceptives and condoms. I'm not going to fund the programs that prevent pregnancies... I'm going to stop you from having an abortion IF you get pregnant, because I love the kids, and then, when the baby is born - f*ck you AND those kids. You had em, you feed em!"

That's how stupid and contradictory AF your entire rant sounds.
And, while we're on the lunacy of black areas run by democrats that are $hit... POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF THE REPUBLICAN RUN AREAS where black folk are thriving...

But, getting back to my question for the FOURTH time - NAME THE POLICIES THAT HELP BLACK FOLK from the republican party that you've voted for.

  • The Art

So true! I also wondered if any the owners owed any of the illegal employees that were arrested any pay. I think it might take another 20 years before we clearly see it but I'm certain that 30-35% of blacks will no longer vote nor identify as a democrat.

There's still time for an unknown to come along and sweep into the fold. At this point, even Biden is a good choice. There's the possibility of several more Supreme Court vacancies within the next few years. Trump has already been lining the lower Federal circuit courts with right wing judges. These are the people who hear and decide on civil rights cases and matters. They can easily roll back protections for minorities and usher in a new Jim Crow-like era. This is why our ancestors fought so hard for the right to vote. Because they knew that civil rights are not a guarantee, but something that needs to be maintained.

Clearly indicative that those democrats did their own thing and allowed the city to become a ghost town...Democrats are responsible for the ran down cities, they take the money, grants, federal funds and turn up! Hence, Kwame Kilpatrick....smh. I don't like that the Democrats have done nothing all these years, nor do I like what the Republican party stands for....but I think the party that is doing something would be the right party to vote for.....I don't think everyone is okay with everyone using the same bathrooms, immigrants getting benefits that tax payers don't have, and etc. Trump lies a lot but every so often, and ounce of truth comes out of his mouth. Baltimore and mostly other urban cities in America are ran by democrats....if Jaden Smith, could effect change like that, he's an entertainer. • Bushbabe

Bravo to Isaiah. he doesn't have to explain to me why he choose to switch parties. With the democratic free stuffOplyimcs going on you would swear the Democrat debate is a re run of Oprah's favorite things. The Democrat party has no clear direction and have become the party of Socialist and Marxist ideology . Hitler killed less Lenin Stalin ( a socialist Marxist) most of whom were combatants like Trump supporters, as opposed to the 100 million systemically killed and tortured citizens carried out by their own governments. I swear, throw an economic inequality slogan on something, take away the self drive and profit, and you mouth breathers will vehemently buy into the worst forms of savagery.Leftists are sick effing puppies and no one wants to be associated with crazy.

    ? the truth.

  • Bushbabe

Socialism killed 200 million and it was for equality. I wonder how many will die because they don't agree with the wacko socialists the democrats have become? MASS shootings in Democratic strong holds Chicago and Bmore go unreported because democrats can't use it to pander for votes?

  • Ryan

To each their own. I can somewhat understand some black folks feeling used by the Democratic party, but could someone explain (using verifiable facts) what the republicans offer to our community? Genuinely asking BUT verifiable facts only, not regurgitated talking points from Hannity and Limbaugh.

And if you're a troll who I've never seen make a positive remark about black people in general, I will block you. Currently the list is five deep.

  • Sushi

Yawl gone learn non of these parties mean you none.....But O Well continue to drink the KOOL-AID...…...

  • Ryan

He was already done after he was kicked off of that show - I truly believe this is a last-ditch effort to try to get in people's good graces again so he can at least get on a Hallmark movie or some junk.

  • synergism

There’s plenty of republican cities that are ran like third world countries

  • Bushbabe

Tell me what is different about the democrats and Mao.When Mao learned that collectivization was causing mass starvation, what was his response? Democratic Collective Centralism, also known as DCC, is an offspring ideology of Democratic centralism. Democratic centralism, first proposed by Lenin, held that a policy decided upon by a majority vote must be upheld by all participants. Democratic Collective Centralism supports this belief whilst combining it with Collectivism.

    a) Decelerate collectivization
    b) Stop collectivization
    c) Come up with a more humane, less deadly collectivization plan
    d) Accelerate collectivization, i.e. The Great Leap Forward

  • Janice Collins

Low unemployment, federal recognition of the importance of HBCU. But the kicker is the party seems to work with everyone not just black people.

  • Janice Collins

What led up to the approval. The resignation of the elected mayor that the people of flint voted. The city was already falling apart not to mention the city as a whole voted to u the flint river. Nope the governor was the scapegoat. The city officials messed this up

  • Overpower Radio

NEITHER party has done anything for his neighborhood in 50 years. Now what? Where you going?

  • Mark mcharm

It never made sense and they are seriously considering changing it so we wont have another Trump situation .

  • Ryan

I appreciate the response but there was also low unemployment during the Clinton and Obama years. As for federal recognition of HBCUs, that seemed a little vague (at least to me) so when I tried to find how the republican party has helped them I came up empty (granted, was just a few minutes of research online but I'm not going to page 20 of the search results tonight. I DID come across this from February of this year regarding my home state:

"Sen. Doug Jones, D-Alabama, is attempting to protect Alabama’s HBCUs. He and Sen. Kamala Harris, D-California, secured a 14 percent funding increase for HBCUs, and last week, he held the inaugural HBCU Summit at Lawson State Community College in Birmingham.

Jones has recognized HBCUs’ historical and economic importance to Alabama and as such, the necessity for Alabamians to protect and preserve HBCUs.

The people of this state cannot allow HBCUs to close their doors. It is more important than ever to ensure that HBCUs are receiving adequate funding, and — more importantly — funding that is equitable to that of predominantly white institutions."

Again, thanks for not going the kneejerk route of bashing black people or calling us stupid. If you happen to find a link that explains at least the HBCU claim I'd be much obliged. Have a good one.

  • Logan Roberts

    Chile ?

  • hottlanta

Really all they did was moved across the street and didn't get any money for the HBCU's. All dump got was a photo op with the HBCU presidents to fill up his photo album from Home Goods. The Morehouse President ripped pun azz Parris Dennard to shreds when he made that same dumb HBCU statement. Dump wouldn't even talk to them sent Pence to do it. Low employment really. Did you read in the Wall Street journal about that fab Foxcomm billion dollar deal that hasn't been done yet and companies are closing all around us.

  • hottlanta

Some of those republicans got charged as well. That is that same old argument that republicans didn't own slaves.

  • hottlanta

The U.S. map is soooo red it looks as if it is bleeding and the poorest cities are run by republicans.

  • hottlanta

Dayum shame he is proud to follow a man who forged a national weather report map to prove his lie as the truth. BYE!!!!!!!!!

  • Rhyme and Reason

I will give Mr. Washington a serious pass! Support who you want, politics is a big game, a distraction while the capitalists get paid!

How can any POLITICAL party be for black people, most white people in this country, don’t view us as AMERICANS, something reserved for white people! Look how he was ostracized and was living in Africa!

I hope his admission gets him back into acting in mainstream film and TV projects, as a very accomplished actor! I appreciate the work, he’s done in Africa!

    We are not children.

  • TeeJay

No he didn't. AND you're the dummy .

  • The Art

The point is he didn't win because Dems were too liberal. He won because a FEW extra votes in swing states with high electoral votes. He's not that big of a threat. He can be beat.

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

The governor was not a scapegoat. He appointed the emergency manager who approved the switch of the water supply and he should have gone to jail.
    o
But like the typical 'taking person responsibility' Republican he passed the buck.

Also even after the voters voted to abolished the emergency manager position the Republicans in the MI legislature voted to reinstate the law and the governor signed it.

How is that following the will of the people?

  • http://batman-news.com Roderick2011

    Low unemployment?

The Trump administration overestimated the number of jobs added to the economy by 500K in 2018 and the first three months of 2019.

These ain't republican talking points Im going off Democrats main issues they focus on and addressing why they dont benefit us.

  • damystical1

Your deflecting and presenting a strae man argument b/c you have no rebuttal on what I stated

  • chris

Problem is Republicans act so overtly racist it's hard to support them. A straight black family man has so political representation.

  • chris

Foh people gave their lives so we could vote for people who serve our interests. We voting just to vote cause nobody doing nothing for black folk. They don't DESERVE our vote, none of them.

  • chris

Word no president no mayor none of these crooks paying none of my bills. I'm good no matter who elected.

  • chris

Why endorse something I don't fully agree with?

  • chris

Same reason they help everybody else. That's their job. If they don't help us why should we vote?

  • The Art

Sometimes voting is about choosing the lesser of two evils. If you don’t vote, you’ll still inadvertently be endorsing one candidate or the other. In situations like this, I just choose to use my vote on the candidate who aligns more with what matters to me. The more like minded people who vote, the more those people can be heard in future elections. That’s why the NRA is so powerful. THEY VOTE. There literally is no sweat off my back to cast a vote. I hope you choose to use your vote too.

How are Republicans overtly racist as opposed to the Democratic Party who created the KKK and welcomed Eugenics/Population Control fanatic Margaret Sanger? It was the Democratic party that proposed a policy (welfare and putting the father out the home) that played a part in the destruction of the Black family. It was also the Democratic party who fought against solders of the confederacy to keep physical slavery intact.Sadly the physical chains are all too real when it comes to Blacks

Racism will always exist but it is time for Black Democrats to truly look at the demons right in front of your face in your party..You also need to look Black Democrat gatekeepers who only orders are to keep you on the Democratic Plantation.

One of the biggest obstacles holding down Black people are Blacks who refuse to do the research and not doing research, keeps you ignorant to the facts as well as the reality of things.Blacks with slave mentalities truly need to free yourselves mentally, so that you can see who the real enemy is.
