Police say a teenager who was believed to have been kidnapped off a Bronx street in front of her mother staged her own kidnapping.

16-year-old Karol Sanchez was the subject of a massive manhunt after a surveillance camera captured three males grabbing her off the street in front of her frantic mother on Monday night.

Police say Sanchez panicked after news of her ‘kidnapping’ went viral on social media and made national headlines.

At 2:15 p.m. Tuesday, a “trembling” Sanchez approached a patrol unit near Eagle Avenue and East 156th Street – close to where she had been allegedly kidnapped the night before.

She will not face charges, an officer said as she was led out of the 40th Police Precinct after questioning Tuesday night.

Police are investigating whether Sanchez’s boyfriend had anything to do with the fake kidnapping.

Sanchez’s mother reportedly planned to move the family back to her native Honduras – but Sanchez didn’t want to go.

“Her mother wanted to move them back to Honduras, but she [Sanchez] was adamantly against it,” one high-ranking police source told the NY Post.

Sanchez and her mother were in town visiting family members when the fake kidnapping occurred.
