Washington state officials confirmed three more deaths linked to the coronavirus, bringing the death toll to 9 in the state.

2 people who died last month in the Seattle area were the first casualties of the virus in the United States. A total of 27 cases are confirmed in Washington state.

The 2 victims – a man in his late 50s and a woman in her 70s – were only recently confirmed to have the virus.

One of the February fatalities was a patient at the Life Care Center nursing home in Kirkland, where 7 patients died from the coronavirus.

Eight deaths are linked to the Life Care nursing home. One patient who was transferred from the nursing home to Harborview Medical Center died in the intensive care unit. Another fatality occurred in nearby Snohomish County.

8 of the deaths are elderly patients in their 70s and 80s and the ninth death is a man in his late 50s.

People most at risk for Coronavirus infection are the elderly population and those with weak immune systems.
