Anderson Cooper revealed that he decided to reunite with his ex-boyfriend, Benjamin Maisani, because his newborn son needs two parents.

The CNN host told Howard Stern on SiriusXM‘s The Howard Stern Show that he remained close with his ex Maisani, who broke up with him after a decade of dating.

Cooper, 52, said he asked Maisani to co-parent his son, Wyatt Morgan Cooper, who was delivered by a surrogate in April.

“I don’t really have a family, so my friends have become my family… This is somebody I was involved with for 10 years. He’s a great guy… We didn’t work out as a couple,” said Cooper of Maisani, 47.

Cooper gave some insight into his unhappy childhood that led to his alternative lifestyle. He confirmed that his late mother, fashion designer Gloria Vanderbilt, was not a nurturing mother.

“When I was a little kid, it was just my mom and my brother, but it was my mom — she was not the most parental person and I wish some adult, after my dad died, had stepped in and just been like, ‘You know what, I’ll take you to a ball game,'” Cooper said.

Maisani reportedly dumped Cooper in 2018 after the anchorman allegedly cheated on him with a Dallas radiologist named Victor.

According to the gossipmongers on Data Lounge, Cooper hired a surrogate to deliver his baby in the hopes of enticing Maisani to come back to him.

This rarely works for heterosexual women who believe having a baby will make their cheating men stay.
