Unbeweavable! – Viola Davis Covers the LA Times
I almost didn’t recognize Oscar contender Viola Davis (‘The Help‘) without her head full of weave. The critically acclaimed actress posed natural for a beautiful cover of the LA Times Magazine. Her dress was designed by one of Michelle Obama’s favorite designers, Jason Wu.
I am hoping this signals the beginning of a trend for black woman to return to our beautiful roots again. It’s disenchanting to see so many beautiful black women walking around looking like Korean Barbie rejects, wearing the same, lame straight black hairstyle.
From Madamenoire.com:
VOGUE: On using real-life experience to draw on for her role in the The Help:
VIOLA DAVIS: “I have stories of being spit on. You have to realize I was in a predominantly white culture … And third grade was the worst because every day after school I would wait at the door and the bell would ring. And as soon as the bell rang I ran as fast as I could from the front door to my house, which was at least a mile away, because I would have eight to nine boys with sticks, bricks, anything they could find, who were ready to kill me.”
On what her mother told her about bullying:
“She said, ‘Viola, I want you to take my crochet and needle and you put it in your pocket and if they stop you again you tell them you’re gonna [stab] ‘em.’”
On how her life defined her career:
“Having it hard made me build so much character … You have to actually say, ‘Is the world going to define me or am I going to define myself.’”
Was Madonna’s SB 46 Halftime Performance the Greatest Ever?

That’s what everyone is saying this morning after the BY Giants upended the hapless New England Patriots to win Super Bowl XLVI 21-17. The 53-year-old pop icon rode into the arena on a chariot worthy of the gods. She launched into a performance of her hit single “Vogue” before performing her current single “Give Me All Your Lovin’” with Nicki Minaj and M.I.A.
Madonna didn’t miss a step as the athletic superstar danced her heart out and threw in a couple of cartwheels onstage. But it was M.I.A.’s flip of a finger that caused most of the buzz from last night’s performance. Some are comparing M.I.A’s middle finger flip to Janet Jackson’s intentional disrobing in 2004′s Super Bowl.
That may be a bit of a stretch when you consider that M.I.A. flipped the bird so quickly that most of America missed it. Still, M.I.A.’s obscene gesture may have stolen the show from Madge. Watch the video after the break.
Yandy Explains Why There is No Love and Hip Hop Reunion

In Monday’s special episode of VH1′s reality series ‘Love and Hip Hop‘ titled “Reality Check,” Yandy Smith, aka Don King, confirms our suspicions that she was paid to “play a role” and stir up drama on the show.
Yandy sits down with the show’s messy producer Mona Scott Young to explain the conflict between herself and Jim Jones’ fiery fiancee, Chrissy Lampkin.
Apparently it was Chrissy’s idea to bring Yandy on the show originally. But tempers flared behind the scenes when Chrissy found out that Scott expanded Yandy’s “role” — giving Yandy more screen time than her.
“You were funny, you were charismatic, we wanted to see more of Yandy,” says Scott justifying why she expanded Yandy’s role.
Scott and Yandy illustrate the sneaky, shady back room dealings that go on between certain reality show cast members who kiss the producer’s ass to get more valuable screen time.
As a result, there will be no Love & Hip Hop Reunion show because Chrissy and Yandy hate each other too much to be in the same room together.
The following video clip includes a rant by Chrissy toward Yandy who must have forgotten whose coattail she rode in on.
“B*tch, you on MY show!” says an angry Chrissy.

Drake’s ex-girlfriend wants her check for “Marvin’s Room” intro

Have you ever wondered who was behind the female voice heard on the intro of Drake’s emotional ballad “Marvin’s Room”? Well, her name is Ericka Lee and she’s supposedly Drake’s ex-girlfriend who now wants her cut of the huge profits from the sales of the hawt single.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Lee says she and Drake dated for over a year, between 2010 and 2011 — and during that time they collaborated on the single and agreed to split the proceeds. She says she agreed to record the song’s hook and an opening monologue.
Drake reportedly acknowledged Lee’s contributions in text messages sent to her phone. One read, “U basically made that song.” Another read, “It’s s–t without you.”
All parties involved registered the sound recording at the U.S. Copyright Office.
But on July 11, 2011, Lee made a claim against the copyright, saying “My works and voice are used on this work.”
About six weeks later, Cash Money Records filed their own claim, saying Lee was an “employer for hire.”
