Queen Latifah Comes Out of the Closet (Finally)

Gheys and lesbians are celebrating the biggest news since the passage of the gay marriage law in New York in 2011.

Hollywood’s most well-known lesbian, Queen Latifah, has finally come out of the closet. The rapper-turned-actress made the transition quietly, in a press release announcing her commitment to headline this year’s annual Long Beach Lesbian & Gay Pride Festival.

It is the first time that Latifah, real name Dana Owens, has ever participated in a Gay Pride celebration.

Sandrarose.com was the first to break the scoop that Latifah, 42, and her longtime lover Jeanette Jenkins had split up in 2011 (thanks to my west coast connect for the tip!).

That’s when Latifah began dating a choreographer, who some say helped break up her relationship with Jenkins.

Samuel L. Jackson incites Twitter war over negative ‘Avengers’ review

Samuel L. Jackson is sick and tired of hearing the word “snakes” whenever he flies on a commercial airliner. “Just drive the damn plane!” he recently told a pilot who made a reference to Jackson’s role in the campy 2006 film “Snakes On A Plane”.

Jackson, 63, was similarly outraged when a movie critic gave his latest film, The Avengers, a bad review. Jackson took to his Twitter.com account on Thursday and urged his 825,000+ followers to help NY Times critic AO Scott find a new job — “One he can ACTUALLY do!”.

The Avengers, which grossed $300 million so far overseas, and is expected to break box office records in the U.S. this weekend, has been panned by critics everywhere. But Jackson took particular offense to Scott’s review of the Joss Whedon-directed Disney film.

Celebs Out & About: Alicia Keys, La La Anthony

Musician Swizz Beatz and his wife, singer Alicia Keys bid against each other for a guitar autographed by legendary pop/rock group the Rolling Stones. Afterwards, Alicia bought a penguin drawn by Swizz and the school kids at the Bronx Charter School for the Arts Auction at Marque, in NYC. All proceeds from the auction goes to benefit the school. Don’t you love it when overindulged celebrities give back?

Also attending the event were La La Anthony and La La’s husband Carmelo Anthony (partially obscured behind Alicia), who has to worry about his team beating the steamrolling Miami Heat in game 3 of the Eastern Conference playoffs tonight. If the NY Knicks drop game 3, they will go down in NBA history as the only team to lose 13 consecutive games in the playoffs.

Is this the Worst NBA logo ever?

The head honchos in the Brooklyn Nets front office allowed rapper Jay Z to design the new team logo. The resulting logo is what you see above. What were they thinking? Jay Z is not a graphic artist, and that logo looks like something out of Spike Lee’s School Daze.

From TMZ.com:

The team — which will be relocated from NJ to Brooklyn next season — just released the new colorless logo … which is already being hailed as “the new badge for Brooklyn.”

Jay-Z, who is being credited with playing an “instrumental” role in the creation of the new logo, said in a statement, “The boldness of the designs demonstrate the confidence we have in our new direction … The new colors and logos are examples of our commitment to update and refine all aspects of the team.”

Rihanna’s “Battleship” Makes $170M BEFORE U.S. Release!

Rihanna has done it again. Universal Pictures’ decision to cast the troubled singer in their latest film “Battleship” has paid off. In just the opening weekend, “Battleship” has earned a staggering $170 million in ticket sales, despite the awful reviews of her first film.

And here’s the kicker: the film doesn’t even open in the United States until May 18!

By the way, “Battleship” can be downloaded for personal home viewing if you know how to find it online. But I prefer to wait until the film premieres in theaters. I predict Rihanna’s “Battleship” will do bigger box office numbers than the Avengers kiddie movie.

Photos from the set of Django Unchained

In the new Quentin Tarantino film Django Unchained, actor/comedian Jamie Foxx stars as a slave-turned-bounty hunter who sets out to rescue his wife (Kerry Washington) from a brutal Mississippi plantation owner (Leonardo DiCaprio). Foxx won an Oscar for his honest portrayal of legend Ray Charles. But can we visualize Foxx as a slave-turned-bounty hunter? Kunta Kinte he isn’t.

And what would a Tarantino-directed slave movie be without a horrific rape scene like this one? There will be plenty of slave stereotypes for moviegoers to digest (a character is named “House Nigger”). Not only is Kerry raped (twice), but she is also stripped naked and horse whipped by her white slave owner. (Let the protests begin.)

I’ve never enjoyed watching a Tarantino film. His movies always ramble on incoherently and make no sense.

Django Unchained also stars Christopher Waltz as Jamie’s mentor; Samuel L Jackson, rapper RZA (Wu Tang Clan), Kurt Russell and Don Johnson (Miami Vice). The film is set for a Christmas 2012 release.
