One of the silliest reality TV shows on American television is Fox's 'X Factor USA'. The reality show bills itself as a talent competition, but where's the talent?
13-year-old Rachel Crow learned the hard way that these shows are more about dramatics and TV ratings than actual talent. During the Top 5 performances show, she went up against singer Marcus Canty singing a stirring rendition of Ella Fitzgerald's "I'd Rather Go Blind". But as these reality shows always go, the producers already know who they want in the finals.
Rachel's dramatic crying act was almost completely devoid of actual tears. But the worst actress award of the night goes to judge Nicole Scherzinger who was given the task of eliminating Crow or Marcus Canty -- or sending the decision to the American voters. Nicole is such a horrible actress that she gave away the answer even before presenter Steve Jones said it.
Pretending to be flustered by the enormity of the task, Nicole gasped "I can't, I cant make this decision... please, I can't make this decision. I love and adore both of you both." Bish, it's your job to make the decision! That's why you were picked as a judge! Nicole's phony act sent her trending worldwide on Twitter.com as users went IN on her -- and rightfully so.
Troubled musician Kanye West leads the Grammy Award nominations with 7, but the bad boy producer was a no-show at last night's live concert warmup to the 2012 Grammy's in February.
While Kanye's hit all-star single, "All of the Lights," was nominated for Song of the Year, his critically acclaimed album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which featured 'Lights', was snubbed in the Best Album category.
But Bon Iver, who was a complete stranger to many of us before collaborating with Kanye on MBDTF, was nominated for 4 Grammy's, including Song of the Year -- which Kanye is also nominated for -- and Record of the Year, which we assume is different from Song of the Year.
Fading rapper-turned-actor LL Cool J, 43, (pictured above) attended the concert after party with his long-suffering buxom wife, Simone Smith. I bet she has a lot of stories to tell, such as why LL Cool J is bleaching his skin when he's already a light alabaster color. Or why he still calls himself "Ladies Love" Cool J, when they don't.
A British newspaper published a scathing article on the 2012 Grammy Awards, calling the show the worst representation of the best music of the year.
The writer was particularly brutal in her opinion of last night's duet performance by rapper Ludacris and country musician Jason Aldean.
Other than sadism, there can be no other explanation for the sonic boom of hell that was a live duet featuring that master of subtlety, Ludacris - a singer perhaps best known for a song that features the Shakespearean chorus of "Get back, motherfucker, you don't know me like that" - and Jason Aldean, an extraordinary young man whose life ambition appears to be to marry the two genres of rap and country music. Source
But she also reserved some venom for cartoon rapper Nicki Minaj, whom she referred to as "a zombie reading an autocue that was written by robots ..." She added Nicki "... served as a double confirmation that just because a woman might dress crazy, she isn't necessarily all that interesting." Ouch!
Kanye West, who received the most nominations for 7 Grammy's, didn't even show up at last night's Grammy warm up event. The writer pointed out that Kanye might have snubbed the event because his album, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, "was not nominated for Best Album, despite most music critics lavishing so much praise on it one might have thought it was the cure for cancer."
But it's probably more likely that Kanye knows he is being set up for failure.

I remember the first time I met the Braxton Sisters, the singing siblings of superstar Toni Braxton. The chance meeting occurred in a hotel suite in Charlotte, NC in 1996. I was there to shoot a music conference for VIBE magazine, and I bumped into LA Reid's brother, Bryant Reid, in the hotel lobby.
At the time Bryant was managing the Braxton Sisters, so he paid me to shoot a party he was having for the girls in his suite that night.
The picture on the right is one that I took in 1996. At the time, the group consisted of Towanda, left, and teenagers Tamar, 19, center, and Trina, 17. They had just released an album, titled So Many Ways, on Atlantic Records.
Last night, BET aired Soul Train Awards 2011 which was pre-taped in Atlanta on Nov. 17. Tamar was the highlight of the night as she sang a rousing tribute to Soul legend Gladys Knight, with Dave Hollister, Kenny Lattimore and Freddie Jackson backing Tamar up as the honorary Pips for the night.
Tamar's performance surprised and electrified social networking sites like Twitter.com, where users compared her sultry vocals to her sister Toni Braxton, and even Beyonce!
Below are just a few of the thousands of positive tweets about Tamar's performance from Twitter.com! By the way, Tamar's sisters, Towanda and Trina Braxton will chat live with Sandrarose.com readers via Ustream right here on Wednesday! So check back for that.
Love was in the air last night 2011 American Music Awards held at the Nokia Theater in LA. Lovebird couples such as singer John Legend and girlfriend Christine Teigen, (above), and Mary J Blige and her hubby/manager Kendu Isaacs (below) couldn't keep their hands or lips off each other.
After performing "Mr. Wrong", Mary paid tribute to rapper Heavy D, who passed away on November 8, of unknown causes.
"Rest in peace to my dear friend, my loved one, my brother, the loveable and great Heavy D," Mary said. "I miss you so much, brother. God bless."
Cartoon rapper Nicki Minaj walked away with two trophies during last night's 2011 American Music Awards held at the Nokia Theater in LA. Nicki pulled a stunning upset over Jay Z and Kanye West by winning Best Rap/Hip-Hop Album for Pink Friday, easily defeating the much-hyped album, Watch The Throne.
The 29-year-old rapper, wearing a shiny speaker suit, performed her hits "Turn Me On" and "Super Bass" backed up by DJ David Guetta.
The night's other big winners included Taylor Swift (Artist of the Year); Beyoncé (Soul/R&B Female Artist), Bruno Mars (Pop/Rock Male Artist), Rihanna (Soul/R&B Album) and Jennifer Lopez (Latin Music Artist). Unfortunately, Rihanna's abusive ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, didn't win a thing as he had hoped.
Brown, who has over 5 million followers on the social networking site Twitter.com, deleted his entire timeline after a follower questioned him about Rihanna last Thursday.
The troubled singer tweeted "Don't say s*** to anybody and everyone feels its cool to attack me. GROWN ADULTS!!!! That s*** happened three years ago." He followed that up with other angry tweets, including a reference to last night's American Music Awards, where the delusional singer had hoped to finally earn some respect.
"I wake up thinking of living my life..... YOU wake up thinking of me! NOW I REALLY CAN'T WAIT FOR THE AMA's! U dont have to respect me now... but u will."
Troubled singer Chris Brown performed last night, but he lost the Soul/R&B Album trophy to his ex-girlfriend Rihanna. Brown had hoped that the AMAs would redeem his fractured image and gain him the respect that he thinks he deserves. But that will never happen. Sales of Brown's album F.A.M.E. has stalled at around 700,000 copies sold, and it doesn't appear to be even close to going platinum. All of this leaves Brown very frustrated and in need of mood altering medications. The 22-year-old went on another one of his patented rampage on Twitter.com last Thursday that ended when he deleted his entire timeline and appears to have left Twitter for good.
Here are more pics from last night's 2011 Soul Train Awards held at the fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta. These pics are courtesy of celebrity blogger Tami of Talkingwithtami.com who took better pics than the so-called professional photographers.
How embarrassing that singer Miguel looked prettier than most of the females on the red carpet?
Aging rapper Jay-Z attended the 16th Annual GQ "Men Of The Year" Party at Chateau Marmont in Los Angeles, CA yesterday. Jay Z was chosen as one of four Men of The Year by GQ.
I laughed out loud when I saw these photos of TV personality La La Vasquez and her Metrosexual NBA husband, Carmelo Anthony. Can you tell she reads the blogs? If you think blogs don't affect the lives of these celebrities, think again.
The Soul Train Awards 2011, hosted by comedian Cedric the Entertainer, took place last night at the Fabulous Fox Theater in Atlanta. The event also coincided with the 40th anniversary of Soul Train, the longest-running musical program of its kind on television. Numerous celebs, past and present, graced the red carpet, which was hosted by RHOA's Cynthia Bailey, pictured below left with singer Marsha Ambrosius.
If you didn't know the Soul Train Awards 2011 was being held tomorrow night at the Fox Theatre, don't worry, you're not alone.
Vivica's former boy toy Slimm, right, and his business partner Mr Plush, left, of Plush Blue Entertainment, along with Upper Echelon Entertainment brought socialite Amber Rose and boxing champ Floyd Mayweather to Atlanta to kick off the Soul Train Awards weekend at Havana nightclub last night. Yes, former RHOA cast member, Lisa Wu, is still considered somewhat of a celeb around these parts.
Rappers Nicki Minaj and Pitbull attended the 2011 American Music Awards Nominees Press Conference at JW Marriott Los Angeles at L.A. LIVE in Los Angeles yesterday (Oct. 11). Nicki looked extremely bored during the press conference. She was nominated for Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Artist and Favorite Rap/Hip-Hop Album, while Pitbull picked up nods for Favorite Latin Music Artist and Favorite Pop or Rock Male Artist.
Pitbull, whose "Give Me Everything" lyrics "Locked up like Lindsay Lohan" upset the actress, plans to fly a bevy of Miami beauties to perform behind him during the telecast.
It's hard to get 60 women from Miami on a plane after they were partying the night before and bring that vibe out there," he joked. "But that's definitely what we're looking for: We're looking for a lot of energy, something very sexy, sophisticated, powerful — and get ready."
The BET Hip Hop Awards weekend kicked off last night with ASCAP's Legends Ball held at the W Hotel in Atlanta, honoring the music legends who have given back to the Atlanta community. ASCAP Rhythm & Soul and Ford & Lincoln Motor company brought together the brightest minds in music and charity for a night of conversation and music at the wonderful W Hotel in Atlanta.
It doesn't matter that Lil Wayne's 4th CD Carter IV is garbage, it can't be ignored that he somehow managed to sell almost a million albums in one week. Plus the fact that no other rapper even comes close to his sales this year, so that should account for something.
Yesterday, BET announced its list of nominations for the 2011 Hip Hop Awards, including 18 nominations for the rap gremlin.
Once again Sandrarose.com was ignored in the best blog category. We didn't even get a mention for the Hustler of the Year award, which we feel we deserve. Not that we care but we thought we would mention the diss.
The rumors are confirmed: 50-year-old comedian/actor Eddie Murphy will host the 84th Annual Academy Awards this Fall. Good for him.
"I am enormously honored to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts from Hope and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg, among others," Murphy said in a press release.
"Rush Hour" director Brett Ratner, who is producing the ceremony, recently directed Murphy in the upcoming movie "Tower Heist," and Murphy was reportedly Ratner's top choice to host the show.
"Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever," Ratner said in a press release. "With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances -- especially on stage -- I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show."
Rapper Wiz Khalifa and socialite Amber Rose couldn't keep their hands or lips off each other at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards last night at the Nokia Theatre in Los Angeles. I don't know about you guys, but I get a chuckle out of watching wildlife make out in public.
A loyal reader who says she never asks for anything requested this video of Chris Brown performing "Yeah 3X", "Protect Ya Neck", Teen Spirit", and "Beautiful People" last night at the VMAs. His performance would have been noteworthy if he hadn't lip synced the whole thing.
I'm not going to put up 50/11 blog posts about the MTV VMAs because the other blogs have all of that covered for you already and some blogs need your traffic.
What I am going to post is another Beyonce blog in the hopes that you kids will recognize that a master manipulator was at work last night.
Beyonce, and her basketball, showed up at the MTV VMAs last night and surprised everyone with her pregnancy announcement. Yet 10 days ago she played to FOUR sold out houses at Roseland in NYC. Not once did she announce her pregnancy to her adoring fans who lined up for hours even though they had tickets.
If she was pregnant 10 days ago she should have been just as happy as she was last night (unless she's a sociopath). Yes, she touched her belly a couple of times but it wasn't obvious to the eye that she was pregnant 10 days ago or everyone would have been talking about it.
The fact that Beyonce showed up at the last minute at the VMAs with a swollen belly and acting so maternal, when just 10 days ago she wasn't behaving that way, proves what a master manipulator she is.
It is clear from the pictures below that there was no visible baby bump on Beyonce just 10 days ago.
If you are in denial you will see whatever you want to see. But Beyonce's belly was flat 10 days ago. Someone suggested that she was wearing compression clothing at her concerts. Really? Do first time pregnant women wear compression clothing?
It's obvious that she is using her baby (or whatever that is) as a prop to get attention. For those of you who have never been pregnant: women don't grow baby bumps in 10 days. That's not how human biology works.
Watch the video of Beyonce's surprise pregnancy announcement and VMAs performance after the break!
Hip Hop's #1 rapper/songwriter Drake won the prestigious "Songwriter of the Year" award at the 11th Annual BMI Urban Awards last night at the Pantages Theater in Los Angeles. Drake is most deserving of that honor. BMI collects licensing fees for artists and publishers for most of the music you hear on the radio.
In attendance were singers Christina Milian (pictured above), Dawn Richard (pictured below), Charlie Wilson, legendary funkster Bootsy Collins, rappers The Game, Wiz Khalifa, Busta Rhymes, Ace Hood, Lex Luger, and more!
*A loyal reader who asked to remain anonymous, writes:
Hi Sandra, I'm a follower of your site for some time now. (Scorpio). I wanted to send these photos from Oakland, CA. Today, 8/25/11, [was] Keyshia Cole Day. Keyshia came out to inspire the youth. Please do not publish my name or email information. Keyshia gave words of encouragement and she performed several songs. I am not in any of the photos.
And why not? Black rappers have destroyed what once was a cerebral art form with their materialistic bragging, self hate and absentee father issues.
The ignorance that substitutes for Hip Hop today has caused true fans to turn away from the genre in droves.
While others are watching the throne, Rolling Stone was watching the numbers. Editors of the iconic music magazine used album sales and chart figures dating back 2 years in deciding who should take the crown.
"Thanks to his two latest chart-topping albums, 2009’s Relapse and 2010’s Recovery, the man otherwise known as Slim Shady sold more than two and a half times the number of albums as the second-ranked Lil Wayne during our survey period," wrote Rolling Stone.
It doesn't matter to Rolling Stone that Eminem, real name Marshall Bruce Mathers III, is bordering on 39 years old. Mathers embodies Hip Hop's credo of "keeping it real" without having to tear up a $300K Maybach to do it.
If Rihanna didn't have bad luck, she would have no luck at all.
A Manhattan judge yesterday greenlighted famed photog David LaChapelle's multi-million dollar copyright suit against the troubled songstress.
According to the NY Post's Page Six:
In a ruling released yesterday, Manhattan federal Judge Shira Scheindlin said the surrealist shutterbug "successfully alleges" that the songstress, her record label and video director may have copied his provocative images for Rihanna's "S&M" video.
Scheindlin cited the "hot-pink and white striped walls," "women wearing frizzy red wigs" and "black tape wrapped around a man." Source
And yesterday, MTV delivered yet another blow to the 23-year-old pop star when the network released its nominations for the 2011 MTV VMA Awards. Rihanna received only two nominations for guest appearances on Kanye West’s “All Of The Lights” and Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie.”
MTV ignored her hits “Only Girl In The World,” “What’s My Name,” “S&M,” “California King Bed,” and “Man Down.”
They say Rihanna's unrealistic demands and Diva-like behavior is what led MTV to deliver the ultimate snub!
We believe it. We told you that her record label held a top secret meeting earlier this year to discuss their temperamental superstar.
Deion “Primetime” Sanders, 43, was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame recently. So the former Florida State alumni and Atlanta Falcons standout came to back to Atlanta, where it all started for him, to celebrate his milestone achievement.
According to Tami of Talkingwithtami.com, Primetime's wife, Pilar, reality star Chilli, and numerous football players, past and present, came out to support their friend. The gala was held at the 200 Peachtree venue in downtown Atlanta, where red and black attire (Falcons colors) were a "strict" dress code requirement.
Deion and his stunning wife Pilar were decked out in coordinating outfits. Deion wore a burgundy shirt, black pinstriped suit with red buttons and a red, paisley-print tie. Pilar wore a black, flowing, backless evening gown with black designer stilettos. The mother of 3 looked fabulous!
In keeping with Deion's infamous overinflated ego, a boxing announcer stood on the red carpet to (loudly) announce the arrival of Primetime and his large entourage of family, friends and staff, who showed up on a decked out custom bus. Also in attendance were former Atlanta Braves great, Brian Jordan, and his expectant wife; TLC singer Chilli and her latest catch; and R&B singer Keith Sweat, who performed at the event.
Ralph Reynolds, Creative Director for AKOO Clothing and Vice President of RP55 Group, was commissioned to design a custom suit to be worn by Hosea Chanchez during his BET Awards presentation debut on June 26, 2011 in Los Angeles, California. “I’m honored that Hosea reached out me, I’ve been a big fan of his and the show The Game for quite some time,” states Reynolds. One of the unsung heroes and predecessors of urban fashion, Reynolds is responsible for launching brands such as RP55, Azzure Denim and Indigo Red. Currently, the RP55 Group ships over $20 million of apparel and accessories annually, including AKOO, Play Cloths and G-Shock. “Although urban fashion is what I’m known for, it’s a little known fact that men’s formal wear and luxury accessories are a passion point of mine. I’ve been designing custom garments for a select clientele for years. I enjoy working with Hosea because he exudes the AKOO mantra. He’s a confident and talented individual with a passion for community empowerment,” explains Reynolds.
Hosea Chanchez, star of BET’s hit sitcom The Game, is the founder of the WATCHMEWIN Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to enriching the lives of urban youth through mentorship, leadership development, encouragement and empowerment. From actor, philanthropist and fashion trendsetter, Hosea is truly today’s modern man who wants to wear clothes that reflect his passion, personality and lifestyle.
Not everyone was impressed with last night's program that BET put together for its 2011 BET Awards. After watching the awards show, Dr. Boyce Watkins, who calls himself a hip hop insider, sat down at his keyboard and pounded out a post titled "BET Has Officially Become the New and Improved KKK".
In his post, he compared BET -- which is run by the white-owned media conglomerate Viacom -- to the Ku Klux Klan, and he accused Viacom of using BET's powerful reach to cause and affect a holocaust within black America today.
"The Ku Klux Klan has been regularly criticized for encouraging violence against African Americans and terrorizing our community. But the truth is that the Klan doesn’t have much power anymore," he writes. Dr. Boyce suggests that Lil Wayne and other hip hop artists who don't know their history are "encouraging black men to shoot one another, to abuse or murder women, to consume suicidal amounts of drugs and alcohol and to engage in irresponsible, deadly sexual behavior."
Dr. Boyce was most particularly disturbed that BET chose to heap accolades upon ex-con Lil Wayne, as opposed to, say, Kelly Rowland who rode the charts to international fame with her smash hit "Motivation":
...the executive committee for the BET Awards made the interesting decision to give the greatest number of award nominations to Lil Wayne, the man who said that he would (among other things) love to turn a woman out, murder her and send her dead body back to her boyfriend. Oh yea, he also that he would kill little babies, have sex with every girl in the world, carry a gun on his hip and “leave a nigga’s brains on the street.”
As a result of the platform given to Lil Wayne and other hip hop artists who form the "corporate armies" producing "weaponized genocide" against black people -- BET, he writes, has succeeded in killing "more black people than the KKK ever could."
Kelly Rowland hammered the final nail into Beyonce's coffin tonight with her breathtaking perfomance on the 2011 BET Awards at the Shrine auditorium in Los Angeles Sunday night. Kelly made everyone forget that her former bandmate was supposed to skype her performance from Glastonbury in the UK. Kelly's live performance of her international hit "Motivation" with Trey Songz had the audience fanning themselves and begging for more!
Here are just a sample of the tweets that lit up my Twitter.com timeline last night after Kelly's sizzling hawt performance!
If there's one thing awards shows know, it's that the viewing public is very gullible. That's why they pull stunts because they know you'll fall for it. Case in point: a chick named Tiffany Green won the opportunity to present BET's Viewer's Choice Award during the 2011 BET Awards last night. Instead of announcing the nominees for the award, she squints at the teleprompter and then says "Chris Brown?" Then she feigns total confusion and says "Rihanna?"
Terrence J pretends to save her by grabbing the mic and announcing that rapper Drake was the actual winner.
Please... nobody could be that dumb! They would never send a totally unprepared audience member to do a cold reading during a live broadcast.
The key is to watch Terrence J's face as she calls both names. Clearly, he was in on the joke that nobody thought was funny.
As publicity stunts go, this one was pretty transparent.
But how about Rihanna's dumb azz falling for the stunt and even thanking Drake for picking up HER award?
I don't follow troubled R&B singer Rihanna on Twitter. So I missed it when she categorically denied being in a relationship with rapper Drake -- as if we didn't already know that.
Meanwhile, Drake tweeted a subtle dig to Rihanna on his Twitter page, which I spotted, but at the time I wasn't aware that he was sub tweeting Rihanna.
Anyway, I wrote all that to say, Drake finally came out of the closet last night at the Songwriters Hall of Fame 42nd Annual Induction and Awards at The New York Marriott Marquis Hotel in NYC. There's no denying it now. Drake wore a black, swoop neck ladies top under his men's tailored jacket. His poses on the red carpet were decidedly feminine -- and he didn't care who noticed.
