Gingrich: why are blacks offended by his plan to put children to work?

During Monday night’s GOP debate in Myrtle Beach, SC, presidential candidate Newt Gingrich once again spoke on his much-derided plan to put school children to work. Sometimes it isn’t what you say but how you say it. So Gingrich was careful to couch his controversial plan in more acceptable phrasing.

Gingrich insists that black kids don’t need handouts from President Obama — they need jobs. Gingrich says schoolchildren should be given janitorial jobs because, in his opinion, janitors in the NYC public school system earn way too much money.

The average annual salary for a NYC public school janitor is $80,000, compared to a teacher who earns $45,000 annually.

According to the NY Daily News, Gingrich argued the best thing public schools could do for students – particularly black students – was to give them a broom.

“Can’t you see that this is viewed at a minimum as insulting to all Americans, but particularly to black Americans?” asked Fox News questioner Juan Williams, who is part Hispanic and black.

“No, I don’t see that,” Gingrich responded, with rousing applause from the majority white audience.

Obama: Honor Martin Luther King With Day of Service to Others

President Barack Obama called for the nation to honor Martin Luther King with a day of service to others.

Reporting from Washington— President Obama used the Martin Luther King Jr. holiday to make a call for public service Monday, saying it was particularly important for Americans to “pull together” at a time of economic hardship.

In brief remarks at a public school in Northeast Washington, Obama also addressed some “controversy” over a quote chiseled into the new memorial for the slain civil rights leader.

On the side of the stone monument reads this quote from King: “I was a drum major for justice, peace and righteousness.” But critics said the abbreviated quote misrepresented King’s intent, a point Obama acknowledged today.

“If you look at that speech talking about Dr. King as a drum major, what he really said was that all of us can be a drum major for service, all of us can be a drum major for justice. There’s nobody who can’t serve. Nobody who can’t help somebody else,” the president said. Source

CURL: Obama doesn’t want a second term in office

According to Washington Post political analyst, Joseph Curl, U.S. President Barack Obama doesn’t want a second term in office. With less than a year to go before the 2012 presidential elections, Mr. Obama’s re-election campaign efforts have been virtually silent.

Curl writes:

There are only two ways to look at the Obama re-election campaign right now: Either the upstart candidate who stunned the world when he defeated the Clinton machine to capture the Democratic nomination three years ago has lost every bit of that massive mojo, or the bruised and battered president, after three years in office, just doesn’t want another spin in the Oval Office.

It’s obvious from Obama’s words and actions over the past two years that Obama is ready to throw the towel in and return to the private sector along with his wife and children.

From the day he was elected, Mr. Obama has made it clear to the American public that all he really wanted was to make history. Obama, who is considered by many to be a narcissist, didn’t sign up to work hard or to put up with disgruntled Americans seeking jobs and a stimulated economy.

Democratic strategists Patrick H. Caddell and Douglas Schoen don’t want to see Obama run for re-election. “He should step aside,” they wrote, “for the one candidate who would become, by acclamation, the nominee of the Democratic Party: Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.”

Michelle Obama Booed at NASCAR

If you thought U.S. President Barack Obama was the most hated Democrat in the country, think again. The first lady Michelle Obama received a rude reception in Florida when she was booed at the final NASCAR race of the season at the Homestead-Miami Speedway yesterday.

Mrs. Obama shared the honor of calling the start of the race with Dr. Jill Biden, wife of Vice President Joe Biden; and Sgt. Andrew Barry and his beautiful family on behalf of ‘Joining Forces’ – a group that helps military families. But the race car fans started booing before Mrs. Obama could even utter the traditional words, “Gentlemen, start your engines!”

Obama Kissing World Leaders

What? Would you rather have U.S. President Barack Obama bending over or kissing world leaders when greeting them?

You’ve already seen the furor it causes whenever he bows down. So the bowing is out. But there’s nothing wrong with a little peck on the lips — as long as his lips are closed.

Actually, the above images of Obama kissing Venezuelan president Hugo Chavez, and Chinese President Hu Jintaoare, are part of Benetton’s newest controversial ad campaign, according to the Washington Post:

“It means not hating,” Alessandro Benetton, deputy chairman of Benetton Group and son of the founder of the family company told the Wall Street Journal. “In a moment of darkness, with the financial crisis, what’s going on in North African countries, in Athens, this is an attitude we can all embrace that can have positive energy.”

Skepticism abounds, though — the company’s sales have been dragging, and some are speculating that the ad campaign might just be a way of jolting consumers into remembering the Benetton name. The campaign is the first part of a three-step plan to revive the Benetton brand. According to the WSJ, the brand is also rethinking its clothing lines.
