Judge Sets $150,000 Bond for Zimmerman

A judge in Seminole County, Florida today set a $150,000 bond for neighborhood watch killer George Zimmerman, according to CNN.

The bond comes with condition, which include GPS monitoring, no possession of firearms, no use of controlled substances, other than those prescribed by a physician, and no contact with the victim’s family.

The judge told Zimmerman’s attorney, Mark O’Mara, to meet with the state (special prosecutor Angela Corey) to determine whether Zimmerman could live out of state for his protection.

He must also meet with the state to be fitted for a GPS ankle bracelet, which means he likely won’t be released until Monday.

ALEC Stops Advocating ‘Stand Your Ground Law’ After Losing Corporate Sponsors in Wake of Trayvon Martin Shooting

ALEC, the conservative right-wing group responsible for pushing the controversial ‘Stand Your Ground’ laws in many states says it will stop advocating the law. This action comes after activist groups called for a national boycott of ALEC following the shooting of 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in Florida.

ALEC, the American Legislative Exchange Council, announced its plan to move away from sticky law enforcement policies, such as Stand Your Ground, and return to its economic roots, according to the NY Times.

As a result of the national boycott, numerous corporate sponsors — including Coca-Cola, PepsiCo, Kraft foods and McDonald’s — announced they have dropped their financial support of ALEC.

“The issue of a young man being killed and linked to this organization made it much harder for companies to say, ‘Gee, this is a great organization that we want to support,’ ” said David Halperin, a senior fellow for United Republic, a liberal nonprofit group.

Woman Shot Dead, Her 3 Day Old Son Snatched by Registered Nurse

A Texas woman was gunned down as she took her 3-day-old son, Keegan Schuchardt, for his first check-up on Tuesday. 28-year-old Kala Marie Golden tried desperately to save her son as her killer — a registered nurse — snatched Keegan out of her arms.

Montgomery County District Attorney Brett Lignon said Verna Deann McClain was charged with murder early Wednesday morning. Her sister, Corina Jackson, told police the mother of three was adopting a baby soon.

Lignon told ABC’s “Good Morning America” that McClain had planned to kidnap a baby, but Golden was a random target. There is no indication that the two women knew each other prior to the shooting.

Tupac performs During Coachella 2012 (video)

The late, great Tupac Shakur rose up from the dead to perform with Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre at the Coachella Music Festical 2012 in Los Angeles Sunday.

Actually, it was an unrealistic 3D hologram of Tupac that stalked the stage, performing hits like “Hail Mary” and “2 of Amerikaz Most Wanted” alongside Dre and Snoop. The audience ate it up. But not all the critics were as amused. The LA Times music blogger called Tupac’s hologram “a red herring, unnecessary and ill advised.” But, she added, “His abs still looked great.”

Another Trayvon Martin Case? LA Police Fire 90 Rounds at Unarmed Teen, Killing Him

A 19-year-old Hispanic male was killed in a hail of gunfire following a police chase on L.A.’s 101 freeway Thursday night. The wild police chase — and its tragic outcome — was captured on live television.

Cops fired more than 90 rounds at Abdul Ariel as squad cars hemmed in his Crown Victoria on the 101 freeway after the police chase. Evidence tags dot the highway to indicate where shells fell from the point where Arian exited the car to the shoulder of the roadway where Arian died of multiple gunshot wounds.

As he jumped out of his car, Arian wheeled around repeatedly to show police that he only had a cell phone in his hand. But police began firing wildly at him, missing Arian as he ran backwards across the highway.

The teen’s uncle told the media, “He was a nice kid. He was working. He was such a sweet kid, respectful to others.”

“He wanted to be a cop and like I said before, during the chase last night, he was calling 911,” said the uncle. “He was afraid of cops. You know, he told me he wants to be a good cop, not a crooked cop.”

fanMAIL: Angela Corey charged 12-year-old boy as an adult

Today I received an email from a loyal reader named Melissa. Melissa wanted to share her concern about Florida State Attorney Angela Corey possibly sabotaging the Trayvon Martin murder case by charging his killer with 2nd degree murder.

Melissa accused Corey of taking on the Trayvon case for political reasons — to gain back Republican support after she charged 12-year-old Christian Fernandez as an adult for sexually assaulting (and murdering) his 2-year-old brother in March 2011.

If convicted, Christian, now 13, will spend the rest of his life behind bars. Melissa wanted me to spread the word about this great injustice done to a 12-year-old kid.

Like most people with an agenda, Melissa conveniently left out the fact that Christian also sexually assaulted his 5-year-old brother on a number of occasions.

In my opinion, that makes him a sexual predator and a future pedophile. As I told Melissa in my response to her, Christian can not be rehabilitated. Some kids are born with a lack of empathy for the suffering of others. I believe Christian is one of those kids that you can’t teach to have empathy for others.

It’s better to lock people like him away from society for the public’s safety. I just feel sorry for the ones he is locked up with.

I am sure Melissa means well, but Christian Fernandez is a sick kid. Read an excerpt from her email after the break.

Medical Minute: Flat or Blunted Affect

The most hated man in America is finally behind bars. George Zimmerman, the 28-year-old neighborhood watch volunteer who gunned down unarmed teenager Trayvon Martin, was arrested Wednesday and charged with 2nd degree murder.

The 17-year-old Miami high school student was shot and killed in Sanford, Florida on Feb. 26 as he walked back to a friend’s house from a convenience store with a bag of Skittles and iced tea.

Zimmerman was taken into custody the night of the shooting, but he was released without charges when he claimed self-defense under Florida’s controversial Stand Your Ground law.

In his mugshot, taken hours after he turned himself in — Zimmerman stares straight at the camera, with a blank expression on his face.

In clinical terms, a flat or blunted affect refers to a person whose facial expression shows no emotion in response to a circumstance that would normally prompt a human reaction.

A blunt affect “can be symptomatic of schizophrenia, depression, or brain damage”. Victims of post-traumatic stress syndrome are often said to display blunted affect.
