The cast of the 1980's hit 'The Cosby Show' attended the TV LAND Awards 2011, held at the Jacob Javits Center North in NYC last night. It pains me and saddens me to say that Bill Cosby's TV daughter, Tempestt Bledsoe (Vanessa), has fallen victim to the self-hate syndrome that seems to be a scourge in our community. Yes, Tempest is bleaching her skin.

The 37-year-old married 'A Different World' star Darryl Bell (Ron). Maybe she's trying to be his complexion? Do better Tempestt!

Thankfully, Cosby TV daughter Keshia Knight Pulliam, 32, (who played Rudy), posing right with TV sister Sabrina LeBeauf (Saundra), is a beautiful Nubian sista who clearly takes prides in her African heritage. By the way, does Sabrina look hawt for 53, or what?

'Celebrity Apprentice' star NeNe Leakes, 41, was spotted riding a bike with her family in Miami Beach yesterday. You can tell she's been working hard in the gym. She looks fit as a fiddle.

On the other hand, NeNe's son Brent needs to go on a sugar-free diet asap. It's unhealthy for a 12-year-old to be that overweight.

Professional beard Amber Rose, 27, and her trademark butt pads was spotted at Barbados' airport yesterday. Amber was a little overdressed for the balmy Barbados weather after leaving the frigid temperatures of New York for some fun and sun on the tropical island.

At a time when black women should be applauded for taking that first step toward financial independence by opening their own businesses, one Texas woman is struggling to defend the name of her business.

Lakita Evans is keeping the name of her new burger joint despite the growing protests from civic minded people who say the name "Fat Ho Burgers" is offensive to a small segment of society.

Evans says that people are offended by the name simply because they aren't familiar with urban slang. "It's not calling people a ho. It's just like they say, 'Oooh that ho is big,' or, 'That ho is tight!"' she told Fox News.

In the black community, the term "ho" is freely applied to people as well as to things. For instance, a brotha might spot a hot car and say, "That ho is fat!"

Other local business owners don't see it that way. They say the 23-year-old is just using the name as a publicity stunt to draw attention to her business.

Pastor Marsha Martie, owner of the nearby Gospel Cafe, said: "[It] would've been nice to think a little more sensitively."

But Evans says people should be more concerned with what's going on in the world rather than the name of her burger joint.

"Look what's going on in Japan. It's like clear this world is not gonna get any better. Why cry and be depressed? The economy is bad. Somebody gotta keep a sense of humour around here," she said.

Everyone is complaining about Oscar winning singer/actress Jennifer Hudson's stunning new shape. While she looks great, some of her fans think she's losing too much weight. Hudson, 29, attended her album release party at Tenjune in NYC last night. The event was sponsored by Weight Watchers and ARISTA Records.

Unfortunately, no one but WBLS radio personality Egypt Sherrod showed up to support your girl. Maybe Jennifer's dramatic weight loss intimidated them?

Grammy Award winning Soul legend Aretha Franklin is planning a triumphant return to the stage in May, according to

The singer, who underwent gastric bypass surgery (according to inside sources) in early December, will play her first concert since the surgery on May 28 at the Seneca Niagara Casino in Buffalo, N.Y.

Though she's feeling better than she has in years, Ms. Franklin, 68, steadfastly refuses to admit she had gastric bypass surgery done. She's not alone; many celebrities have undergone the procedure and then lied about it, saying they lost the weight through diet and exercise.

It's too bad that celebrities won't use their high profile access to the public to talk about the health benefits of gastric bypass surgery. What it is about human nature that makes us deny self-improvement procedures as if these procedures are somehow taboo?

Since her surgery, Aretha has focused on her diet, which she changed drastically per doctor's orders. She is noticeably slimmer but she won't say how much weight she lost.

Instead, Ms. Franklin talks about maintaining the weight she's at now. "I want to not only maintain the weight I am at now, but better it, by one dress size," the Queen of Soul said Wednesday in a phone interview with The Associated Press.

Ms. Franklin cancelled concert plans last year prior to her surgery due to an undisclosed illness. But sources say Franklin was feeling fatigued and short of breath due to the heavy physical demands placed on her by her concert performances.

"Her doctor told her to lose the weight or she might die," said my source who works for the singer's record label.

Aretha is sticking to a strict low fat, low cholesterol, low salt diet, but she said it will be tough to avoid eating her post-high fat, high calorie snacks, such as chitterlings, pigs' feet and ham hocks.

"They're off my diet. They just really don't fit with Whole Foods," she said. "I had it for enough years that I don't miss it. You can't continue to eat things that are not good for you."

"When you come off (a high-energy concert), a carrot or some celery just isn't going to work. I've gotta do a fresh fruit thing ... and come up with some tasty and satisfying recipes that are going to work for me after concerts."

In other unrealistic news: talk show host Sherri Shepherd is telling everyone she wants to fit into a size 2 dress for her upcoming nuptials. The 43-year-old co-host of TV's 'The View' says she hasn't started shopping for her wedding dress yet because she wants to drop enough pounds to fit into a "single-digit" wedding dress.

Sherri recently announced her engagement to TV writer Lamar Sally, who, reportedly, fully accepts her 5-year-old son from a previous marriage.

There is nothing wrong with losing a few pounds to please your man, but drastic weight loss is never advised. The trouble begins when you radically change your look despite the fact that your man doesn't ask you to change anything for him.

Obviously, Sally is happy with Sherri at the weight that she is, or he wouldn't be marrying her. And if he isn't happy with her weight, then why is she marrying him?

It seems as though Sherri is self-obsessed with her body image, and as I wrote yesterday in my Medical Minute post on Body Image Disturbance -- that is always a bad sign.

As you know, local nightclub promoter Omar "Slimm" White, 27, recently proposed to his fiancee, actress Vivica A. Fox, while on holiday in Miami. Slimm surprised Vivica, 46, with a sparkling $60k, 8 carat rock for Christmas.

While visiting Slimm's facebook page today looking for cell phone pics, I happened to notice that he was a dedicated vegan. I had no idea he was a vegan. So I reached out to Slimm to find out what inspired him to change his diet.

"I changed my diet based on my father passing from stage 4 lung cancer and [watching him] going through the whole chemotherapy and radiation process," said Slimm. "Once you learn more about the human anatomy and healthy nutrition, it inspires you to want to eat better," he said.

Slimm said he no longer eats processed meats or canned food. Instead, he said he eats a nutritious diet that consists of fresh organic home grown fruits, beans, greens and rice.

"I eat a lot of raw foods and vegetables. Cooked food isn't that good for you," he said. "Once you cook it past a certain temperature, you're killing the nutrients. You're basically putting dead food back into your body."

Slimm said that while his fiancee, Vivica, eats healthy foods (no pork, candy or sodas) -- she's not a vegan like he is. "She tries to [eat vegan food]. She eats a lot of veggies and fruits."

Slimm said when Viv is in town they usually compromise on their restaurant destination.

"I go to my spot to eat, or we go to her spot... I always try to compromise," he said.

"I'm not the kind of person to preach or try to convert nobody. I respect people for who they are."

*This post was edited to to correct the fact that Slimm does not eat fish.

Singer Ciara was seen shopping for trinkets at Saks Fifth Avenue in Miami yesterday. She was accompanied by her cutie pie dogs, Tyson and Georgia.

Later, she sat courtside with a beautiful babe during the Milwaukee Bucks vs. Miami Heat game in the American Airlines Arena. It's no secret that CC isn't dating anyone at the moment. We would love to see her and Keri Hilson get together -- to record a song, that is. Get your minds out of the gutter.

Comedic brothers Marlon, right, and Shawn Wayans spent a relaxing day at the beach with male friends at Punta del Este in Uruguay yesterday.

Our favorite Kardashian sister, Khloe, may be a successful TV star and business entrepreneur, but she tells Life & Style Weekly magazine, that she is still tormented by memories of her past.

Khloe, who was spotted yesterday buying jewelry in Beverly Hills, said she was called 'fat' and 'ugly' by other kids throughout her childhood and it was the love of her sisters that saved her.

She says: "Having someone in your class call you fat, ugly, too tall and so on, you start to think all those things about yourself. And if you're like me, those words are played on repeat inside your head. Khloe says it was her family that saved her from despair during the most difficult period of her life.

Her petite and super-slim sisters Kim and Kourtney were the very people who saved her from feeling terrible.
"When I was at home, I felt loved and safe. My sisters were always a safe haven for me. I knew they would always play with me and make me feel like I was one of them." [link]

Khloe grew up to be more statuesque and beautiful than her skinnier sister Kim Kardashian who struggles with self-esteem and body image issues.

It's because Khloe remains humble that she has become the favorite among fans who watch "Keeping Up With the Kardashians" every Sunday.

In a video she made for an anti-bullying campaign, Khloe targeted celebrity blogger Perez Hilton as a bully who tormented her for most of her adult life:
"I've been bullied, basically, my entire life. I've been compared to my sisters since the day I was born. I don't look exactly like them... I'm bigger than them, but I'm me...I'm just always told how big I am... It's always something.

"I've always struggled with my weight, I've always struggled with my height, with my hair colour, with my skin colour... and Perez is a major factor (of bullying) in my adult life... I thought bullying would be done, but, in my world, it's not done."

She added: "No matter what, you can always work out of it, you can always move past it. I don't think anybody should ever take their life for being bullied."
