Keyshia Cole and Manager Manny Halley Part Ways

Three weeks after admitting that releasing a single with rapper Nicki Minaj was the wrong move, singer Keyshia Cole officially dumped her manager, Manny Halley. Cole made the announcement yesterday via her Twitter.com account.

But Sandrarose.com readers already knew this was coming.

Manny Halley’s decision to release “I Ain’t Thru” as the first single off Keyshia’s new CD Calling All Hearts, caused a rift between Keyshia’s management and her label, Interscope Records.

In a recent interview with the AP, Cole admitted that she bore part of the blame for releasing the disastrous single with Minaj.

The label didn’t really want to drop the record because they knew that people wanted a more intense, soulful record from me about love and I really should have followed (their) direction. But I wanted that to be a statement record. It’s like saying, ‘I’m doing me, you know. I don’t have no regrets for nothing that I’m doing’

As I noted in an earlier post, Cole failed to mention the power struggle between Halley and Interscope records that spilled from the boardroom into the streets, and reached the ear of a certain notorious blogger.

Once label execs began openly expressing their disdain for Halley, word spread around the industry like wildfire that Cole had dumped Halley as her manager and hired a woman to manage her affairs.

In an effort to contain the rumors before she could release an official statement, Cole and her publicist, Tresa Sanders, reached out to Sandrarose.com on December 16, 2010. Although the content of that call can not be made public, I will tell you that Keyshia sounded very concerned about the information that had already leaked out of Interscope Records.

One Interscope record label exec told me the album sounded like it was “rushed in the studio.” The exec, who asked to remain anonymous, indicated that the higher ups at the label weren’t happy with the end product and they voted to shelve the album indefinitely. But, he said, Keyshia’s management (Halley) insisted that the album be released.

“There’s no way to predict how people will respond to things,” said Ron Fair, chairman of Geffen (Interscope) Records. “It’s something that Keyshia really wanted to say.”

Calling All Hearts is in stores now.

Kanye’s Horrorcore ‘Monster’ music video; Keyshia Cole on Chelsea Lately

Apologies for the slow posts today. There is only one of me and I had to take care of some business this morning. So you’re getting two posts instead of one.

Kanye West’s horrorcore “Monster” music video premiered yesterday. My writeup on the music video is here, in case you missed it.

And last night, R&B singer Keyshia Cole appeared on the Chelsea Lately Show. Let me know what she said, because I didn’t have time to watch.

Celebrity Seed: Keyshia Cole

R&B singer Keyshia Cole took her son, Daniel “Stinky” Gibson Jr., to watch his daddy, Boobie play against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Cleveland Cavaliers lost the game 98-97 in Cleveland. Keyshia tweeted throughout the game, and was disappointed when the Cavs coach benched her man.

Keyshia’s album, Calling All Hearts, debuted last week with 128k in first week sales.

Keyshia Cole admits releasing a single with Nicki Minaj was a bad idea

Thanks to blogger Toya for finding this nugget of information on Keyshia Cole. According to the AP, the R&B Diva regrets her decision to release her single “I Ain’t Thru” from her new CD Calling All Hearts, featuring newcomer rapper Nicki Minaj.

Though her rap style is cartoonish, Minaj is the hottest thing smoking in Hip Hop right now. And it’s understandable that Cole wanted some of that heat on her record. But Cole now admits that that particular single wasn’t the right vehicle for both of them to jump on.

PICS: Keyshia Cole’s Album Release Party in Atlanta

R&B Diva Keyshia Cole held her album release party for her album Calling All Hearts in Atlanta last night. I hear it was packed with fans who will hopefully go out and buy Keyshia’s album when it drops next Tuesday, December 21.

In anticipation of the release, another track has leaked from Keyshia’s album. This one titled “Last Hangover” featuring Timbaland.

In the meantime, those pesky cash flow rumors within Keyshia’s camp have cropped up again. Some of you might remember the rumors that her manager Manny Hailey was bouncing checks all over the place. Well, a source within Keyshia’s record label tells me that Manny has taken to running up expensive bar tabs at nightclubs and refusing to pay when the bill comes.

Keyshia is said to be so upset at the constant complaints about her manager that she hired an additional manager — a female — to look after her business affairs. This does not mean that Manny is fired (they still have a contract), it means that Manny is not so hands on with her career as he was in the past.

Keyshia Cole Covers JET Magazine

These are not my words, they’re Toya’z:

Keyshia Cole has been pretty lowkey with this new album and everything just seems a tad bit rushed. Plus, her songs are not doing as well as expected. Here, she covers the latest issue of JET magazine, which is currently on newsstands.

The 29-year-old speaks to the magazine about her new album ‘Calling All Hearts’ which will drop in stores next week on Dec 21st. On top of that, she spills the beans on her cushy lifestyle with fiancé Daniel Gibson and 9-month-old son Daniel Jr.

Lovely. Again, it will be very interesting to see what numbers Ms Cole pulls in next week especially without the guidance of a reality show.

Listen to snippets of every song on Keyshia’s new album here.
