Morning Glory: Aisha Nicole

Loyal reader Aisha Nicole writes:

Hey Sandra,

My name is Aisha Nicole. First off let me say I love your blog and read it every morning and at lunch time while at work :) We chat sometimes on twitter. I would love to be featured on the Morning Glory post! I work full time in Corporate America at a Brokerage Firm however my passion is modeling. I am a print model from Chicago looking to take over the game one photo at a time. Im considered to be curvy in the modeling world even though Im only a size 8, its hard to get signed if you’re not a size 0 or size 12….. I feel I represent the everyday woman. Also it is extremely hard not to be typecast as a Video vixen or Glamour model if you are a little thick.

Im working on creating a better image for women of color who are curvy. We are more than our hips and thighs. I plan to use my “Face” to get ahead and not my ass…..even though that’s great too. I have dreams of gracing the covers of top beauty mags like Vogue or Harper’s Bazaar. What ever happened to showcasing garments, hair and beauty products ? Thank you for your consideration.

Morning Glory: Briana Shani

Hello Sandra,

I am a college student at Columbia College Chicago majoring in Fashion Business with a minor in Journalism. I am an avid reader and blogger as well. My blog www.BrianaShani.com is a lifestyle blog that tackles real life situations and meant to provoke thought. With my quirky lingo and sexuality I like to think of myself as the real life Carrie Bradshaw. I would love to be featured on the Morning Glory section of your site because I think I have a great blend of intelligence and sexiness for any type of woman to respect. I have dreams of being a columnist for a women’s magazine, and eventually starting my own column. I believe its important not to keep yourself in a box, and use all your resources to be successful, and I will! I also am secretary of Black Student Union at my college. A would love to show my fellow young women how important it is to be in tune with all parts of who you are. I love myself as a women, African American, business women, student, etc. Thank you for your consideration!

Greetings Sandra!

I just wanted to reach out to you once again, and express my deepest gratitude! The feedback from you posting me as your “Morning Glory” has been overwhelmingly positive and inspirational. I’m still in shock that you chose me, but I’m so honored you did! Your readers are great, positive people, who have reached out to me just to say, “Keep Grinding!” God Bless you Sandra.

I’m forever in your debt;)

Best Regards,
Shay Elise

P.S.- I saw a couple people ask about the tattoo on my chest. It’s of me and mother when I was a baby, it represents the hardest times in my life. And it reminds me who helped me get through those. I wanted her forever close to my heart.:)

Greetings Sandra!

My name is Shay Elise and I read your blog faithfully everyday. I love how you express your mind no matter the outcome. I’ve always noticed the ‘Morning Glory’ post, and would love to be added. I’m 26 from Springfield, Massachusetts and I’m 6’1 without heels, lol! I’ve been modeling for about two years now, and I love it. I just want to make it without being seen solely as a sex object. Before I started modeling, I was an athlete. I’m an All-American in basketball who played throughout high school and community college before receiving a full scholarship to the D1AA school Morgan State University in Baltimore, Maryland. I’m a hard worker, poet, and currently learning how to work from BEHIND the lens!

I’ve been told I’m too tall, too skinny, too fat, too many tattoos, and the list goes on! Being beautiful is a full package, and it should NEVER go on looks alone. What about the personality, charisma, and loyalty? All traits that we look for in someone whom we may want to get to know or love. We can be runway, editorial, high fashion, commercial models, yet no one looks to models to be ROLE models? I’m starting to see too many vixens and not enough Imanis, Tyras, and Evas. The most editorial photos I’ve seen lately have come from singers, i.e. Kelly Rowland, Brandy, etc. Where are the models that have the edge but can still be fashionable? Where are the models that can still be naked, and it’s actually called Art instead of eyecandy? By no means, shape or form am I saying that I’m top notch, I’m just a girl with a dream. But the view as “models” as black women have got to change…that’s all I’m saying :)

Thanks for staying true to self no matter what!

Best Regards,
Shay Elise

Morning Glory: Kameron Dash

A not-so-loyal reader sent us images of video vixen Kameron Dash under the subject line “Stacey Dash’s cousin” — knowing that we would quickly open the email to see what any cousin of the “Single Ladies” star looked like. The email author didn’t count on us to do our research.

It turns out Kameron is not a cousin of Stacey Dash. They’re equally gorgeous (though Stacey has at least 25 years on Kameron) they’re not even in the same blood line. But Kameron’s natural curves do qualify her to be today’s Morning Glory.
