Meryl Streep makes donations to Viola Davis’ charities

Actress Meryl Streep pulled an upset win over “The Help” star Viola Davis when she took home the Oscar for her role in “The Iron Lady,” at this year’s Academy Awards.
As a small consolation, Streep donated $20,000 in cash to 2 of Davis’ favorite charities.
According to the Chicago Tribune:
The Oscar winner wrote a check for $10,000 to Upward Bound to honor Davis, the program’s director Mariam Z. Boyajian confirmed to TheWrap.
Boyajian said it was the largest donation in the organization’s history.
“I was writing to her when you called,” Boyajian told TheWrap. “I wanted to give her a chance to settle down from the hectic weekend before I gave her the good news.”
Streep followed up that donation with a separate $10,000 check to Segue Institute for Learning, according to the Providence Journal.
Both Davis and her sister Dolores Davis Grant attended Upward Bound, a federally funded program that prepares low-income high school students for college.

Tyler Perry’s ‘Good Deeds’ Takes #2 Spot At Box Office
Director/playwright Tyler Perry’s latest movie ‘Good Deeds‘ soared to #2 behind ‘Act of Valor‘ at the box office this weekend. ‘Good Deeds’ earned a respectable $15,583,924 on 2,132 screens, while ‘Act of Valor‘ brought in $24,476,632 — on ? more screens than ‘Deeds’ was shown on.
‘Good Deeds‘ is about an anal-retentive, wealthy businessman, Wesley Deeds (Perry), trying to ‘save’ an exotic, LSLH cleaning woman (Thandie Newton) who works for his computer software firm.
Wesley Deeds is a hard-working, compassionate man who looks out for his narcissistic brother, Walter (Brian White), despite the fact that Walter sabotages his every move.
Deeds is so attentive to details that his daily routine can easily be predicted by his live-in fiancee, Natalie (Gabrielle Union).
Union turns in a wonderful performance as the understanding, submissive girlfriend who makes breakfast for her man every morning, while allowing him to go about his day without “checking in” with her (because she trusts him not to break from his routine). The warm, beautiful Natalie is every black man’s dream.
What could be more perfect?
‘Think Like a Man’ Cast Shines at All-Star Weekend
NBA star Dwyane Wade, pictured above with his lovely fiancee, actress Gabrielle Union, attended the Orlando premiere of ‘Think Like A Man’ over the weekend.
Who saw Tyler Perry’s ‘Good Deeds‘ this weekend? Gabby turned in one of the best performances of her career! For once she wasn’t that screeching, angry at every black man woman. But Tyler gets a serious side eye for basically saying it’s okay for a wealthy black man to leave his submissive, doting black woman to SAVE an irresponsible, arrogant LSLH chick who is the reason for her own bad luck in life.
I guess you can all shut up about rapper fabolous and reality show character Emily B. being together for the time being. Fabolous is typical of cheating men who come back around when their baby mamas makes a name for themselves.

Was This Year’s Academy Awards The Most Boring Ever? (Videos)
I stopped watching the Academy Awards almost 30 years ago when I found out that the narcissistic pageantry was rigged and almost everyone knew who was going to win.
Deadline.com‘s writer Nikke Finke wrote: “The Oscars suck every year! And this year the Oscars are gonna suck worse than ever! Because we all know who’s going to win the marquee categories without a single envelope being ripped open.”

Starring as “Effie” in the film, Sparkle, Whitney performs a rousing rendition of the gospel classic “His Eye Is On The Sparrow”. Whitney makes liars out of those who said the drugs and alcohol robbed her of her beautiful voice.

Octavia Spencer takes a hard spill at NAACP Image Awards
Actress Octavia Spencer slipped and fell inside the the press room at the 43rd NAACP Image Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, early this morning. Spencer fell as she approached the press with her NAACP image award. The award-winning ‘The Help’ actress landed on her back, but she was unhurt as her co-star, Viola Davis, helped her up.
Spencer, 40, has complained in the past about having to wear uncomfortable shapewear to awards shows to conceal her weight. On a recent visit to the ‘Ellen Show,’ Spencer told Ellen: “I triple-Spank. Which is not good. Spanx really, really work, but you don’t need to overdo it.”
Viola Davis won an Image Award for lead actress and Octavia Spencer won the supporting actress trophy for ‘The Help‘.
