Audio: Zimmerman used racial slur during 911 call

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who gunned down 17-year-old Trayvon Martin, used a racial slur during a 911 call to police. Zimmerman called 911 to report a ” a real suspicious guy” in his gated community in Sanford, Florida on Feb. 26.

Zimmerman, 28, later told police that he stepped out of his truck to read a street sign when Trayvon attacked him from behind.

Zimmerman said he fired his .9mm handgun in self-defense. Trayvon, who was carrying a bag of candy and a can of iced tea, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest.

The full audio of the call has been released (without the police edits) — and now the public knows that Zimmerman is at the very least a racist.

Was Rihanna’s ‘Rice Cakes’ tweet to Karrueche racist?

Ever since Rihanna and her abusive ex-boyfriend, Chris Brown, got back together, Rihanna has been throwing subliminal shots at his girlfriend, Karrueche Tran, on her Twitter page.

But Karrueche struck back with a diss of her own. When Brown tweeted a photo of himself cooking a meal for Karrueche in February, Karrueche tweeted a pic of the food that Brown prepared for her. The caption read “Yup… Get mad!”

In retaliation, Rihanna tweeted the above picture of a package of rice cakes wearing sunglasses and hoop earrings. The caption below the pic read: “Ima make u my bitch.”

Rihanna’s Twitter followers made the obvious connection to Brown’s girlfriend.

But if you think Brown is going to defend his main chick (Karrueche), or even try to make the peace between his two women — think again.

The lyrics to Rihanna’s “Birthday Cake Remix” — which Brown hopped on and co-signed — contain a reference to “rice cakes,” which is considered an insult to the Vietnamese. Karrueche is an aspiring model who is part Vietnamese.

So did Rihanna really take it there? Is she being disrespectful and racist because she can’t get her way with Chris? Or is Rihanna just being Rihanna?

Racist ESPN Jeremy Lin Headline Outrages Sports Fans

A racist ESPN headline has basketball fans outraged this morning. It’s little consolation to sports fans that ESPN issued an apology for last night’s “Chink in the Armor” Jeremy Lin headline — what matters is that the headline went up in the first place.

Rob King, ESPN.com’s editor-in-chief, tweeted a message about the slip-up.

There’s no defense for the indefensible. All we can offer are our apologies, sincere though incalculably inadequate.

But sports fans want heads to roll. ESPN radio sports reporter Nubyjas Wilborn, who is no stranger to controversy himself, tweeted:

“Whomever posted it and the editor who didn’t catch it sooner probably will get fired. I hope it’s nobody I know.”

ESPN has yet to comment on an anchor’s use of the same phrase during a segment on the Knicks’ loss on SportsCenter last night.

Update:

The Chicago Tribune reports that the ESPN employee who wrote the headline has been fired.

Halle Berry heads back to court after Gabe Aubry’s racial assault on nanny

Scroll down for updates…

Gabe Aubry has serious issues. This, according to Halle Berry, who is taking the Canadian underwear model back to court for losing his cool and assaulting her nanny.

Radaronline.com reports that Aubry hurled racial epithets and physically assaulted their daughter Nahla’s nanny last week. It seems that Aubry kept Nahla home from school for 2 days because he claimed she the 3-year-old was sick. But Aubry neglected to tell Nahla’s nanny, who went to the child’s private school looking for her.

“The nanny went to pick Nahla up at school and she wasn’t there, so she went to Gabriel’s home,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “Gabriel and the nanny got into an argument because no one alerted her that Nahla didn’t go to school.”

The source told RadarOnline.com Aubry allegedly called the nanny a racial slur, before things took a turn for the physical.

“She picked up Nahla to leave and Gabriel yelled at her and shoved her out the door so hard that she hit the wall — while she had Nahla in her arms!” the source alleges, adding that the nanny claims the abuse is ongoing.

According to Radaronline.com, the nanny is so distraught that she has turned in her resignation. Good for Halle for standing up for her people!

According to TMZ, the police report has been filed. Click image to read the report.

Education Leaders: Teachers Should Not Be Fired Over Slavery Beatings Math Lesson

The unorthodox teaching methods of teachers at a Norcross elementary school have caused a national uproar. The teachers gave 3rd grade students at Beaver Ridge Elementary a math lesson featuring slavery questions such as figuring out how many beatings a slave would get if he was whipped twice a day for 2 weeks.

Over 100 students were sent home with the math lesson, which featured about 20 questions on slavery. Some parents reacted with fury, accusing the teachers of blatant racism. But education leaders dismiss the allegations of racism.

According to the AJC, Calvine Rollins, president of the Georgia Association of Educators said “the slave math lesson created by a teacher to reinforce a lesson on Frederick Douglass may have used poor judgment, but it shouldn’t lead to the termination of those who wrote or handed it out without reviewing it.”

“This is an unfortunate incident,” Rollins said. “I don’t believe the teacher wanted to expose those kids to anything offensive. Gwinnett County teachers are dedicated. They work hard and try on a daily basis to do the right thing.”

Magazine to Rihanna: ‘We thought you people liked being called the N-word’

A Dutch magazine is catching heat for publishing an article calling Rihanna a “nigga bitch” — words the troubled singer has used to refer to herself in the past.

The Parlourmagazine.com article also stated that Rihanna was from Jamaica — an insult of the highest order to Barbadians who think they’re above Jamaicans.

Rihanna’s fans inundated the magazine’s office with emails, phone calls and online messages expressing their outrage. Rihanna, who was alerted to the magazine’s content by her Twitter followers, reacted with a series of angry tweets on her Twitter.com page.

“I hope u can read english, because your magazine is a poor representation of the evolution of human rights! I find you disrespectful and rather desperate!! You ran out of legit, civilized information to print!” she wrote on Twitter.

“There are 1000′s of Dutch girls who would love to be recognized for their contributions to your country, you could have given them an article. Instead, u paid to print one degrading an entire race! That’s your contribution to this world! To encourage segregation, to mislead the future leaders to act in the past! You put two words together, with the intent of abasement, that made no sense … ‘N—a Bitch’?!….Well with all respect, on behalf of my race, here are my two words for you … F— YOU!!!” Source

The magazine’s embarrassed editor took to Facebook to apologize profusely to the singer and her fans. Editor-in-chief, Eva Hoeke, wrote: “First: thanks for all your responses. We are of course very fed up over this and especially very shocked. However I’m glad that we’re engaging in a dialogue on this page — not everybody does that. Thanks for this. Other than that I can be brief about this: this should have never happened. Period.”

Hoeke also implied that the racist insults toward Rihanna were meant as a joke, especially since Rihanna, and blacks in general, use the most degrading terms when referring to ourselves.

ESPN Yanks Hank Williams Jr. song after he compares Obama to Hitler (Video)

Since being elected president, Barack Obama’s policies have been compared to those of crazed German dictator Adolf Hitler by quite a few conservative radio talk show hosts. But when country singer Hank Williams Jr. compared Obama to Hitler on Fox News Channel’s “Fox and Friends” show Monday morning, he was promptly fired for his impetuosity.

ESPN made it clear that Williams was never a full-time employee of the sports network. But they acknowledged that “he is closely linked” to the company for 20 years through Monday Night Football’s catchy opening song, “Are you ready for some football?”

ESPN, in a statement, said:

“While Hank Williams, Jr. is not an ESPN employee, we recognize that he is closely linked to our company through the open to Monday Night Football. We are extremely disappointed with his comments, and as a result we have decided to pull the open from tonight’s telecast.”
