Celebs Out & About

Legendary old school rapper Chuck D (Public Enemy) and his band rocked the Lincoln Center during the 20th Anniversary Celebration of Spike Lee’s 1989 film “Do The Right Thing”, last night in NYC. Public Enemy’s classic hit “Fight the Power” was featured on the Soundtrack.

In the film, actor John Turturro, on the left, played Pino, the son of the racist Italian pizzaria owner, and, of course Spike Lee directed and produced “Do The Right Thing”.

Rosie Perez played the Puerto Rican fireplug, Tina, who had everybody hot and bothered in the film, and in the theater.

We don’t recall actress Malinda Williams being in the film, but if she was she must have been a baby.

The lovely actress Eva Mendes attended a photocall for “Live!” in Rome, Italy yesterday.

Celeb Style: Janet Jackson!

Pop legend Janet Jackson finally ditched the baggy clothing after it became apparent that no one with any common sense believed she was pregnant.
JJ was spotted over in London last night looking fit and trim. Maybe these pictures will finally lay to rest any silly rumors that she’s pregnant.
But this post is not about Janet’s occasional pranks on lame bloggers, this post is about that bag!
All I can say is Janet’s Hermes 35cm calf leather Birkin is HAWT! It retails for only $13,999 and goes nicely with Jan’s casual black outfit and knee high lace up leather boots!
She knows how to step it up a notch when she has to. THIS is the Janet that we know and love!

HOPE, CHANGE and Handcuffs

This is funny: the Smoking Gun has rounded up a few mugshots of petty criminals wearing Barack Obama t-shirts. This is in no way any reflection on Obama of course.
Funny though, the Smoking Gun couldn’t find any detainees wearing McCain or Palin tees.
Is Your Man a Thug Punk?

Yesterday I read an insightful post on Black Voices forums by a member who highlights the characteristics of the type of boys that black women should avoid at all costs!
Just to be clear, I am not making a sweeping indictment of all black men. Just the ones who are disrespectful and shiftless who call themselves men but don’t have the common sense to pull their pants up in the presence of women and children.
If you want others outside of our community to respect our women, the respect begins at home.
Some women need to understand that it’s okay to be by yourself. If you bring ex-convicts and thugs around your children because you have no self respect or common sense to know better — this post is for you.

- This is a two-way street that both brothers and sisters have to walk. Sisters should heavily screen these guys they’re dealing with. Too many times black women want that gangsta thug because he’s edgy, presents that challenge, has that swag to them and has what is a false sense of stud confidence. You can’t tell who’s a killa off the top, but there are warning signs that flashes a red light sisters ignore.
How he deals with you – Is his tone of voice belligerent? Is he aggressive-does he talk tough, tries to grab you when you don’t want to be grabbed, raises his voice when you try and calm him down, displays a temper over trivial stuff? Does he try and intimidate you and make you fear him? Does he show jealousy when friends came around or a male friend at that? Does he try to control you-where you go, who you talk to, make you give him money, occupy most of your time? Is he abusive-calling you names, cussing you out over the phone or person over nothing, does he step in your face during an argument, does he get physically violent (that can mean breaking stuff or outright contact in any way)?
How does he relate to you sexually – does always come at you hard, constantly for sex, is he actually intimate? Or, is he overly romantic? Over sweet-talking you, over-complimenting you (as if he’s trying to manipulate you), telling you he loves you after an argument, using lines just to get what he wants, etc?
Obama Seeks to Block Another Ad

I see that Sen. Barack Obama’s camp is, once again, attempting to trample upon the First Amendment rights to free speech. Politico.com reports that Obama’s camp reached out to TV stations in Ohio and Pennsylvania yesterday to block the airing of a National Rifle Association ad.
This makes, what… the 2nd or 3rd ad Obama has asked TV stations not to run — and he’s not even president yet?
This is an alarming trend. IF Obama is elected president, will he exert Orwellian control over TV stations to suppress programming that he feels puts him in a bad light? It’s called censorship any way you look at it.

It’s That Time Again
If you’ve noticed the SR community seems to be shrinking, that’s because it is. Due to circumstances beyond my control (people can’t control their damn kids online) I have been forced to ban more than a dozen of my not-so-loyal members. They will not be with us for… you know the rest.
Anyway, new members seeking to join this stellar community of forward thinkers must have a job. You are also required to have the ability to follow simple instructions. If you don’t have a J-O-B don’t bother to register. I don’t want a bunch of kids running amok in my comment section (some of you need home training).
Once again, a workplace email is required to register. For the slow among you, that means NO gmail, Yahoo, hotmail, MSN, NO FREE EMAIL BOXES, NO ISPs like Bellsouth.net, Optimum online or Road Runner, etc.
Send your registration requests to info@sandrarose.com ONLY! And remember to put “Registration” in the subject line. Any registration requests NOT sent to the above email addy will automatically be rejected. No exceptions.
I reserve the right to reject anyone for any reason (and trust me, I will).
