October 2, 2011 will mark the first annual “A King of Oneself” brunch presented by men’s lifestyle fashion brand AKOO Clothing and Grand Hustle Entertainment. Taking place during BET Hip Hop Awards weekend, the exclusive affair will be hosted by none other than AKOO’s Co-founder, Grammy award winning artist, actor, and producer, Clifford “T.I.” Harris and New York Knicks all-star Amar’e Stoudemire.

The invite-only event will be held at a private location in Atlanta. Invites have already gone out to 150 celebrity guests, close personal friends and family.

“We’re gathering our family and friends during BET’s Hip Hop Awards weekend to show love and appreciation to T.I. as he celebrates his 31st birthday, his new book Power & Beauty, and the growth of the AKOO Brand,” states Jason Geter, Co-founder of AKOO Clothing and CEO of Grand Hustle Records.

During the brunch soiree, guests will preview a sneak peek screening of the “Salute the King” fan-based documentary, a collection of videos submitted by T.I. fans from all over the world.

As previously mentioned, each invited guest will receive a bottle of Ciroc, courtesy of Sean "Diddy" Combs. All guests will be measured for a special AKOO clothing gift, and select guests will receive Beats by Dre headphones in their gift packs.

The “A King of Oneself” brunch is sponsored by Ciroc, Beats by Dre and MusicBusinessPolitics.

Keep it here to find out how you can win an exclusive invite for two to attend the private brunch!

AKOO Clothing:

Remember we told you last week about rapper T.I.'s private Welcome Home party to be held after he's released from a halfway house? Well, TMZ has the details on the intimate affair for exactly 150 guests on October 2nd. According to the gossip website, T.I.'s good friend Sean "Diddy" Combs is personally shipping in 150 bottles of Ciroc, one for each person in attendance. The whole bash will cost around $100K, with $20K just on food and additional $8K on dessert.

The big surprise of the night -- reps from AKOO Clothing, T.I.'s clothing line, will measure the VIP guests for custom-made clothing gifts.

Of course, T.I. isn't leaving out the blogs; one lucky reader will receive an invite to attend the Exclusive affair at an undisclosed location. T.I.'s artist Mitchelle'l, whose hawt single "Only A Few" has everyone buzzing, is set to perform for the lucky 150 guests. We usually don't attend industry parties, but we might make an exception for this one!

OWN Network founder Oprah Winfrey has "mixed feelings" about one of her hosts appearing on ABC's 'Dancing With The Stars' this season, which begins next week.

According to the Huffington Post, Oprah is uncomfortable with Your OWN Show host Carson Kressley appearing on the dance show, because she is uncomfortable with reality TV shows in general.

"A few years ago, when she was doing her own show, she didn't care for it at all," a source told HuffPo.

"Manipulating people who are so desperate to be famous and making then look foolish on TV is just not something she is comfortable doing."

But isn't that what Oprah did on her own show? Didn't she manipulate people who were desperate to be famous? Isn't she desperate to remain relevant after ending the 25-year run of her wildly successful show on the advice of a dying kid?

Kressley, who gained fame as host of TV's "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy," will compete next week against notables such as NBA star Ron Artest, former talk show host Ricki Lake and transgender Chaz Bono.

The rumors are confirmed: 50-year-old comedian/actor Eddie Murphy will host the 84th Annual Academy Awards this Fall. Good for him.

"I am enormously honored to join the great list of past Academy Award hosts from Hope and Carson to Crystal, Martin and Goldberg, among others," Murphy said in a press release.

"Rush Hour" director Brett Ratner, who is producing the ceremony, recently directed Murphy in the upcoming movie "Tower Heist," and Murphy was reportedly Ratner's top choice to host the show.

"Eddie is a comedic genius, one of the greatest and most influential live performers ever," Ratner said in a press release. "With his love of movies, history of crafting unforgettable characters and his iconic performances -- especially on stage -- I know he will bring excitement, spontaneity and tremendous heart to the show."

ABC caused a storm of controversy when the network announced its controversial decision to add a transgender male (Chaz Bono) to the cast of "Dancing With The Stars". But now the deluge of emails and phone calls pouring into ABC's offices have turned downright scary, according to an unidentified source.

“Of course, they knew there would be some anti-Bono calls and emails,” said a longtime “DWTS” insider. “But this has been more vicious and in larger volume than was anticipated. … Some of the comments are downright scary,” the source told the Sun Times.

As if it wasn't difficult enough for ABC to navigate the waters of discord and animosity, a psychologist has come forward to urge parents not to allow their kids to watch the show.

Calling Bono's appearance on the show "toxic," Dr. Keith Ablow, a FOX contributing blogger, wrote "I advise parents to not allow their children to watch the episodes in which Chaz appears."

Dr. Ablow, a licensed psychiatrist, compared Bono's gender dysmorphia to that of mentally ill patients who suffer from limb dysmorphic disorder -- the amputation of healthy limbs.

People who suffer from limb dysmorphic disorder believe their lives will improve dramatically if they can only amputate one or more of their hands or limbs. The limb is usually removed at the end of a butcher's knife when the patient can't find a sympathetic doctor to perform the operation.

Ludacris stopped by the 11Alive studio to fill 11Alive viewers in on this year's LudaDay Weekend from Sept. 1-5th. Ludacris says this LudaDay weekend will be the biggest of the past 10 years.

The most anticipated event is probably the celebrity basketball game featuring NBA stars Carmelo Anthony and Chris Paul, in addition to other local celebs. Luda's team will take on Justin Beiber and his crew. Luda jokingly calls Bieber his "mentor" who he goes to for advice on women. Even so, Luda says he's definitely not going to let Bieber win the game.

Tickets are $10 and the proceeds will benefit the Ludacris Foundation. Visit for a full schedule of this weekend's events.

If you're planning on attending the LudaDay weekend events, you will have to contend with near gridlock traffic in downtown Atlanta. Not only is this Gay Pride weekend, but there will be other conventions and professional sporting events competing for spectators this weekend as well.

Cabaret singer Beyonce's four night stand at New York's Roseland Ballroom sold out in 22 seconds -- thanks in large part to ticket scalpers.

Bey opened her 4 night stand last night wearing a shimmering gold dress designed by her mother Tina Knowles, and shoes by Stuart Weitzman.

Fans, rather, Stans lined up for hours before the show even though they already had tickets in hand. The delirious Stans packed the 2,500 capacity ballroom to hear Bey belt out lesser known tracks from her '4' album.

The concerts were described by one industry insider as "brilliant album listening parties organized for the fans," which she hopes will spark slumping sales of '4'.

But Beyonce's opening night didn't jump off without some controversy.

A few of our loyal readers are complaining bitterly about the cost of tickets to Kanye West and Jay Z's 'The Throne' Tour. The tour kicks off at Philips Arena in Atlanta on October 29, and some fans say they can't afford the outrageous prices that Live Nation is asking for tickets.

Loyal reader Maxie King writes:

The tickets for the Washington DC show are $265/Each in this economy? Talk about tending the throne, these two tired rappers are gouging the pubic, making Jay-Z and Kanye richer, but it won't be me that's for sure for two assholes. $265 is half of my car note, but they don't care. Who do they think they are? Jay-Z's rap is old and so is he, and Kanye is a Beyonce groupie. F-that Sandra. But the show will probably sell-out nonetheless

Rather than rely on reader quotes of tickets, we did our own checking. We learned that the cheapest ticket to 'The Throne' Tour at Philips is only $83. That's not bad when you consider the magnitude of the talent onstage. I am speaking specifically of Kanye West, of course.

The name on everyone's lips this past weekend was Alex Gidewon, the uber successful club promoter with a string of lucrative nightclubs in Atlanta. Tonight, Gidewon, who co-owns AG Entertainment with his brothers, will celebrate his 40th birthday at the newest jewel in his crown of nightclubs: Club Reign.

Most holders of invitations to Alex's private party at Reign believe they will gain admission to the Ultra private bash at Dubai Lounge next door to Reign, but unfortunately, they will not.

Please be clear: there are NO invitations to Alex Gidewon's Ultra private bash at the exquisitely appointed Dubai Lounge tonight. If you are an A-lister, a baller or a shot caller in Atlanta, your name speaks for itself. Your aura of sophistication is all you will need to get inside Dubai. If the doorman has to ask who you are, you will be pointed down the sidewalk to Club Reign.

But don't be embarrassed: you won't be alone -- you just won't be inside Dubai Lounge sipping champagne with the rest of the ballers.

The stunning Moroccan styled Dubai Lounge was designed by Michael Habachy of Habachy Designs, Inc.

Happy birthday, Alex! Have fun tonight!

We corrected this post to reflect the fact that Michael Habachy of Habachy Designs, Inc. designed both nightclubs.

As we told you last week, the official release date of the Watch The Throne collaboration LP by Kanye West and Jay Z might be pushed back. Today it was announced the set will be released on August 8 on iTunes, instead of August 2nd. It now makes sense that the super secret listening party for 'The Throne' will be held on August 1st at an undisclosed location.

Of course, yours truly was invited to attend the private listening session by our friends at Def Jam. We were assured that both Hip Hop Kings, Kanye West and Jay Z, would be in attendance (we really want to meet Kanye!).

When we asked (twice) if any other bloggers would be attending the private listening session, we received no response. So it is assumed that other bloggers are invited, and they just don't want to reveal who. (Not that it matters.)

In addition to the release date, a tour was also announced to support the much-anticipated project, which Def Jam execs are already calling a classic. The 21-city 'Throne Tour' kicks off in Detroit, Michigan on September 22, 2011, with a stop in Atlanta on October 9 at the Philips Arena.

Watch The Throne is available for pre-order at

If Rihanna didn't have bad luck, she would have no luck at all.

A Manhattan judge yesterday greenlighted famed photog David LaChapelle's multi-million dollar copyright suit against the troubled songstress.

According to the NY Post's Page Six:

In a ruling released yesterday, Manhattan federal Judge Shira Scheindlin said the surrealist shutterbug "successfully alleges" that the songstress, her record label and video director may have copied his provocative images for Rihanna's "S&M" video.

Scheindlin cited the "hot-pink and white striped walls," "women wearing frizzy red wigs" and "black tape wrapped around a man." Source

And yesterday, MTV delivered yet another blow to the 23-year-old pop star when the network released its nominations for the 2011 MTV VMA Awards. Rihanna received only two nominations for guest appearances on Kanye West’s “All Of The Lights” and Eminem’s “Love The Way You Lie.”

MTV ignored her hits “Only Girl In The World,” “What’s My Name,” “S&M,” “California King Bed,” and “Man Down.”

They say Rihanna's unrealistic demands and Diva-like behavior is what led MTV to deliver the ultimate snub!

We believe it. We told you that her record label held a top secret meeting earlier this year to discuss their temperamental superstar.

R&B singer Ciara was spotted feeding the meter outside Marie Nails in Los Angeles yesterday. She had her pups, Tyson and Georgia, with her. The 25-year-old star is coming off a 4 date mini-tour of South Africa with producer/rapper Timbaland, singer Chris Brown and rapper Lil Kim. Ciara will soon embark on a 10-city tour with singer Taio Cruz. The tour kicks off in Miami on July 16, and will include stops in Dallas, New York City, and Los Angeles -- but not Atlanta. Boo!

R&B singer Rihanna gripped her butt cheek during her performance at the Staples Center in Los Angeles yesterday. My spies tell me that the real reason singer Cee-Lo dropped out of the LOUD tour is because he thinks he's a bigger star than Rihanna is, and he resented opening for her. Speaking of Rihanna, she is tapped to host the Grand Opening of the new Vision, now called Reign. The occasion is also owner Alex Gidewon's 40th birthday party.

According to published reports, Beyonce will appear as a judge on U.K.'s X Factor alongside her former band member, X Factor judge Kelly Rowland.

Kelly is a Superstar in England, and she actually overshadows Beyonce in terms of popularity in the U.K. This will be a very humbling experience for the former Destiny's Child lead singer.

Bey, as her Stans affectionately call her, will help choose contestants with Kelly at the Judges' Houses stage of the competition. Beyonce will also perform at the Glastonbury music festival with fellow headliners, Coldplay and U2.

Socialite Kim Kardashian and her fiance Kris Humphries attended their first event together since announcing their upcoming nuptials. The happy couple attended the Amber Fashion Show held at the Meridien Beach Plaza in Monte Carlo, Monaco yesterday.

Word coming out of R&B singer Rihanna's camp is that she's feeling a little flustered about her upcoming hosting gig at the new Vision nightclub and lounge Grand Opening in midtown Atlanta in July. I'm told she's nervous about hosting such an Epic event. She needn't be worried; I'm sure she will do a great job. The new Vision nightclub is the crown jewel of AG Entertainment's expanding portfolio. The nightclub and adjoining lounge will feature state of the art lighting and a sound system that rivals Las Vegas show venues! Requests for tickets are pouring in from as far away as NY and LA! If you know Alex or Elsa Gidewon, get on their guest lists now. Don't wait until tickets go on sale next month. Keep it right here on for more details on the new Vision grand opening!

A retired MTA worker in New York is so confident the world will end next Saturday that he has spent $140,000 -- his entire nest egg --- on MTA advertising to assist his fellow New Yorkers in preparing for the rapture.

"I'm trying to warn people about what's coming," said 60-year-old Staten Island resident Robert Fitzpatrick, who retired from the MTA in 2006. "People who have an understanding [of end of times] have an obligation to warn everyone."

"Global Earthquake! The Greatest Ever - Judgment Day: May 21," the $50,000 - $90,000 ads literally shout from bus shelters, subway trains and subway platforms all around the city.

The Metro Transit Authority is happy to take his money, although critics wonder why the MTA is feeding into the May 21 hysteria.

"It's an individual's prerogative to spend their money as they see fit," said MTA spokesman Kevin Ortiz.

Fitzpatrick is a loyal follower of California evangelist Harold Camping, who used a complex mathematical formula to predict the exact date of Judgment Day when Jesus Christ returns to Earth to book Final passage for all believers, and non-believers.

Camping also predicted a previous Judgment Day -- on Sept. 6, 1994. But that was just a dry run.

"It'll start just before midnight [May 21st], Jerusalem time: It'll be instantaneous and global," said Fitzpatrick. "There are too many scriptures talking about 'sudden destruction.'"

Former Xscape member Tameka "Tiny" Cottle is preparing to see her hubby, T.I. again this weekend. Tiny visits her man every other Sunday and Monday at the Forrest City Correctional facility in Kansas where he's serving time for a probation violation.

If you recall, an incident of an intimate nature occurred during Tiny's last visit to her husband at the Forrest City prison Correctional facility in Kansas.

According to Tiny, T.I., 30, was reprimanded and his liberal access to the prison phones and email were cut off. Tiny didn't know when she would be allowed to visit him again before his release date sometime in August or September. But luckily, the prison didn't ban her from visiting T.I.

Yesterday she tweeted this on her Twitter page: "One of my steps of getting ready to see my man is changing my hair color. I'm always trying to do the impossible! So creative it is. #faith"

According to an inside source, Tiny, who was hospitalized recently, is planning a big Mardi Gras style event this weekend at her nail salon, Tiny's Nail Bar at 3540 Walt Stephens Road in Stockbridge. Business is good so Tiny wants to thank her many faithful fans and Twitter followers by slashing prices for nail designs! If you mention Tiny's Twitter page, you get 2 free designs with your pedicure!

If you don't have anything planned this weekend you should stop by.

Singer Ciara just tweeted this pic of herself rocking a pair of Air Jordan Retro 9's at the Hill Street Kips Bay Boys and Girls Club in Atlanta this morning.

Later this afternoon she's off to the 2nd Annual Sprite Step Off Challenge at the Fox Theater in midtown. The step show starts at 5p.m.

I attended this same event last year at the Atlanta Civic Center. If you recall, controversy raged when the 1st prize of $100,000 in scholarships was awarded to the all-white Epsilon chapter of Zeta Tau Alpha out of Arkansas.

The white girls killed it at the majority black competition last year. They electrified the crowd with a dazzling step routine that clocked in at just under 9 minutes. But almost immediately after this video hit the 'nets, accusations of "the fix was in!" began sounding from HBCUs across the country.

Black sorors complained bitterly that MTV (and their sponsor, Coca Cola which distributes Sprite) wanted a step crew winner that was more in line with their targeted demographic.

So what if the white women stole parts of their routines from black step crews? The truth is that the all-black Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha from Indiana University (who came in 2nd last year) should have stepped their game up a notch instead of acting like it was a dance competition.

The Zeta Tau Alpha girls should have been the sole winners because they stayed true to the historical black traditions of intricate stepping, call and response.

Well, to quiet the uproar (and to appease the media who began making inquiries), Coca-Cola announced that due to a "scoring discrepancy," both the The Zeta Tau Alpha girls (white) and the Tau Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha step crew (black), would be recognized as co-winners.

Naturally the outrage and indignation was split along racial lines, with white college students yelling racism right along with the HBCUs. Coca Cola's excuses about scoring discrepancies fell on deaf ears.

"Why won’t they let YT be great!!!!!! I swear black people won’t let white people have anything," was just one of the sampling of comments left on an all-white message board.

Probably due to the 2010 controversy, this year's competition at the Fox Theater has been scaled down.

Instead of V-103's Ryan Cameron hosting (as he did last year) -- they have someone named DJ Rock-T of the Tavis Smiley Show handling the hosting duties.

Ciara will perform during the competition. Lots of tickets are still available at $20.

The last time singer Lauryn Hill performed live in Atlanta, she left her most loyal fans feeling frustrated and unimpressed.

According to an industry insider who attended the concert for free at Atlanta's Center Stage theater in January, the 35-year-old mother of 5 hit the stage 3 hours late for her advertised 9 p.m. show.

Lauryn promptly confused her fans by announcing that she was tired of "playing the same music night after night." Hill told the shocked audience that she wanted to play something different. She then instructed her band to speed up the music, which rendered her classic hits unrecognizable.

The insider said Hill urged the audience to sing along, saying, "I want crowd participation."

"But nobody could participate because NOBODY knew the music!," said the fan. "Everybody was looking around like 'WHAT SONG IS THIS???'"

"It was new music completely," the frustrated fan continued. "The lyrics were the same, but you had to be on ecstasy to follow the music!"

Well, Lauryn Hill and her road manager, Atlanta's own sexual chocolate, Bumni, heard all the complaints and they want to make it up to enraged Atlanta fans. When Lauryn Hill hits the stage tonight in Atlanta, she promises to be on time and drama free.

Hill tweeted the following message to her followers on yesterday:

Rapper Foxy Brown, 32, was among the C and D-list celebs attending BET's Rip the Runway 2011 at The Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC on Saturday (Feb.26). Also in attendance was singer Miguel and rapper Fabolous, who looked so out-of-place amongst the trannies and cross dressers who found fame on reality TV shows and on the Internet.

This is what passes for quality entertainment these days.

Actresses Syr Law and Vivica A. Fox, 46, attended the Candy Ice Pre-Grammy Affair For Breast Cancer event at the Supperclub in LA on Wednesday. I don't care what anybody says, Miss Vivi is HAWT. By the way, Syr Law emailed me this morning. Hers was one of the emails that I sent straight to the trash bin without reading it (I have to stop doing that). I immediately fished the email out of the trash once I saw her picture. You'll be seeing more of her on this blog.

Singer Neyo, 31, right, hung out with actress Michelle Rodriguez, 32, rapper Killa Mike, 31, aka Mike Bigga, and comedian Cedric the Entertainer, 46, at the Westwood One Radio Remote room yesterday in LA. Also attending the event were rapper Yung Berg, singer Mya, among others.

According to, burlesque singer Beyonce, 29, is set to headline England’s Glastonbury Festival this Summer.

If you recall, her husband Jay Z, 41, headlined the festival last year. Expect ticket prices to be higher this Summer than they were last year. After all, Beyonce has a bigger stage show than Jay Z, tens of stage hands, plus all her baggage that she carries (physical and mental).

“This really is the biggest festival in the world and I cannot wait to perform there," said Bey. "Everyone who attends is really appreciative of music and is in such a good mood that entire weekend,” said Beyoncé. “I’m pumped just thinking about that huge audience and soaking up their energy.”

Pop Diva Janet Jackson, 44, announced her intimate concert tour on Monday (Jan. 3). Janet will play smaller venues and allow her rabid fans the opportunity to choose the songs she performs.

But all of that intimacy and privilege comes at a steep price that most fans simply can't afford.

Miss Jackson's "Up Close and Personal Tour" kicks off in Houston, Texas, on March 4. She will play 20 dates in 14 states. The ticket prices range from $122 for the nosebleed section to $600 for prime orchestra seats.

Loyal reader Nevesnana writes:
Hey Sandra,

This is NEVESNANNA. Hope all is well with you. (Happy New Year). Question...and answer...because your opinion is important :-)....Is Janet Jackson SERIOUS WITH THESE TICKET PRICES? I went on line to look at purchasing tickets for her show when she comes to DC ... IS SHE SERIOUS WITH THIS SHYT? The least expensive ticket is $122.00 and its damn near on the ROOF of Constitution Hall!

Teena Marie's autopsy was completed yesterday, but Los Angeles County Coroner Ed Winter says her cause of death remains unclear.

According to the Atlanta Journal, investigators say the 54-year-old R&B singer's autopsy results revealed no signs of trauma. This conflicts with rumors that Marie suffered several fractured ribs from a fall during a seizure she had weeks before she died.

Marie's daughter, Alia Rose, found her mother's body in their Pasadena home one day after they celebrated Rose's 19th birthday.

There were reports that Marie died in her sleep after suffering a grand mal seizure. But there are people who experience seizures every day and they don't die.

Also unclear is why Marie had seizures in the first place. Did she have epilepsy or were the seizures drug induced?

Winter said no illegal drugs were found in the family's home where Marie died on December 26. But police removed a bottle of Valium from the scene. Valium is often prescribed for people with anxiety, panic attacks and to control seizures.

Marie reportedly stopped taking the drug due to its serious side effects, which include drowsiness, fatigue and constipation.

Teena Marie's planned concert appearance on New Year's Day at the Fox Theater in Atlanta will instead be a tribute to honor her career. Scheduled performers include MAZE and Frankie Beverly, along with Johnny Gill and Stephanie Mills.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the Fox Theater box office. Refunds are available at the point of purchase.

The Collective Renaissance Guild (CRG) in partnership with Ford Motor Company and Perennial Sports and Entertainment will hold its 3rd Annual Winter Ball on Saturday, December 4 at the Delta Air Heritage Museum in Atlanta, GA. Winter Ball 2010: Phoenix Rising, will honor Grammy-Award Winning artist Toni Braxton for her community service with Autism Speaks and the American Heart Association and Martin Luther King III for his global humanitarian efforts and work as President of the King Center.

20 tickets (10 pairs) will be given away to the first 10 readers who email Angela Watts of AW Media Group at!

*Do not email me for tickets*

Winners will be approved to walk the red carpet and take photos with celebrities!

Phoenix Rising is a tribute to Atlanta as well as the honorees who have all demonstrated resilience and an ability to thrive in challenging times. Hosted by V-103's Nina Brown, the black-tie gala will begin with cocktails sponsored by Belvedere Intense at 7:00 PM followed by a special presentation at 9:00 PM.

The Winter Ball is CRG's main fundraiser and all proceeds will benefit the organization's 2011 programs. Board Chair, Christine White states, "For the last two years, we have organized our premier holiday event for Atlanta's Power Generation. To partner on this effort with Ford Motor Company is an extraordinary privilege." White continues, "We rely on the Winter Ball to raise critical funds needed to further our mission of infusing arts, philanthropy and social change into the cultural fabric of the Power Generation."

In only its third year, CRG Winter ball has attracted a diverse and culturally savvy crowd. Past honorees and attendees include: Ambassador Andrew Young, Joseph E. Lowery, Dr. Cornel West, Big Boi of Outkast, Mayor Kasim Reed, V-103's Rashan Ali, Ryan Cameron, and Frank Ski, Actor Jamie Foxx, Hip Hop Artist Ludacris, Personality Kenny Burns, Actress Nicole Ari Parker, and Rainforest Film's Will Packer and Rob Hardy.
