Influential blacks were calling for President Barack Obama to appoint a black woman to the Supreme Court seat vacated by Justice Antonin Scalia.

Obama was expected to appoint California AG Kamala Harris, who is half black on her daddy’s side.

But once again, Obama disappointed his supporters.

Another high ranking member of President Barack Obama’s inner circle has jumped ship.

NPR.org reports that Eric Holder Jr., the nation’s first black U.S. attorney general, has announced he will be stepping down as soon as his successor is confirmed. Holder, 63, was hospitalized in February after suffering shortness of breath and dizziness at work. He is also plagued by recurring back problems.

Obama Eases Prison Sentences for Drug Offenders

The Obama administration plans to ease mandatory prison sentences for convicted drug dealers. The new policy will benefit black drug offenders who are disproportionately affected by the mandatory sentences.

Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. made the announcement Monday as part of a comprehensive prison reform package to reduce prison sentences for elderly, nonviolent inmates whose drug offenses are not gang-related or part of a large-scale drug operation (such as Black Mafia Family).

Interestingly enough, President Obama was an avid drug user in his college days.
