Janelle Monae

We can add eccentric singer Janelle Monae's name to the growing list of self-hating black artists who bleach their skin to fit the industry standard of beauty. The 28-year-old Kansas City native Instagram'd this image of herself posing with a soccer ball bearing a Pepsi logo. The photo caused an uproar among Janelle's rabid so-called "Fandroids" because her skin tone appears 10 shades lighter.

One of her followers wrote: "Stay black baby don't turn fake on me like these other bitches."

La La seen leaving Good Morning America

Reality TV star La La Anthony was spotted arriving at the studio where ABC's 'Good Morning America' is taped in NYC on Wednesday. In an exclusive interview with Latin Times, La La said a woman's insecurity can lead to bad makeup choices. "You don't have to go overboard. Simple eyeliner, lip gloss and blush can go a long way," she said helpfully. On her exclusive deal as Caress Body Wash spokeswoman, La La said: "I'm so honored to be even looked at as a 'fabulista,' and to be using fragrances to inspire women. I specifically love Caress' 'Tempting Whisper' and what's great about it is that it's light, it smells good and it's a great scent. Anything I put my name behind, I really, truly believe in, and this is a product that I use, that I love and I'm always the kind of person that likes to share my beauty secrets with the people and this is definitely one of them."

Kelly Rowland

R&B beauty Kelly Rowland often goes without makeup, which explains why her skin has that natural, healthy glow.

"I started wearing makeup at 14 for Destiny's Child," Rowland tells People magazine. "I remember the first time I saw my lashes with mascara on them – it was my favorite thing. For me, makeup reminds me of work. Without it, I feel natural and untouched."

Rowland's album, Talk a Good Game, is set for release in June.
