Ashanti turns 40 today. The curvy singer celebrated her birthday with friends in Antigua and Barbuda.

"Reflecting on the blessings," Ashanti captioned a post that shows her relaxing on a yacht in an emerald sea.

Ashanti was born Ashanti Shequoiya Douglas on October 13, 1980 in Glen Cove, New York. Her mother was a dance teacher and her father was a former singer.

WENN

Ashanti's mother, Tina Douglas (pictured), discovered her full singing potential when she overheard Ashanti singing Mary J. Blige's "Reminisce" at age 12.

WENN/McCauley

As a teenager, Ashanti wrote songs and performed in local talent shows. She got a small break as a child extra in Spike Lee's Malcolm X (1992) and in Ted Demme's Who's the Man?.

But her first love was music. Ashanti began performing around the city and she eventually came to the attention of Bad Boy Records, Jive and Murder Inc., where she was noticed by Murder Inc. CEO and co-founder Irv Gotti.

Gotti asked her to write hooks for his label artists and to perform with them in duets.

Her duets on Fat Joe's "What's Luv?" and Ja Rule's "Always on Time" helped launch the songs up the charts, becoming two of the biggest hit songs of 2002.

Ashanti became the first female artist to occupy the top two positions on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 singles chart at the same time.

Following the success of her collaborations with Ja Rule and Fat Joe, Ashanti released her debut single, "Foolish", which contains a sample of the 1983 song "Stay with Me" by DeBarge.

Ashanti's self-titled debut album, Ashanti, was released on Murder Inc. in April 2002 and debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart. The album was certified triple platinum in the United States and sold six million copies worldwide.

The album was a fan favorite, earning 8 Billboard Music Awards, 2 American Music Awards, and a Grammy Award in 2003 for Best Contemporary R&B Album.

In July 2003, Ashanti's sophomore album, Chapter II, also debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, with first-week sales of 326,000 copies. Chapter II went platinum, selling over 1.5 million copies.

In 2004, Ashanti began dating rapper Nelly and considered settling down to raise a family.

Ashanti and Nelly were the Beyonce and Jay-Z of their time. Fans couldn't get enough of the sexy couple. One fan made a scrap book filled with pictures of the hip-hop royal couple.

Nelly and Ashanti ended their long-term relationship in 2014 after dating 10 years. Their union produced no children and Ashanti told friends she regretted not tying the knot with the St. Louis rapper, now 45.

There were many rumors of cheating by both Ashanti and Nelly during their decade together. After the breakup, Ashanti earned a scandalous reputation as a home-wrecker.

Ashanti has been linked to Chink Santana (who was dating Keyshia Cole at the time); NFL player Darnell Dockett (who was married at the time), NBA star James Harden, comedian Michael Blackson, rapper Joyner Lucas, and more.

Ashanti released 5 albums in her 18-year career. She was nominated for 8 Grammy Awards, winning a Grammy for her 2003 album Ashanti. She won 35 music awards in her stellar career, including 8 Billboard Music Awards and 2 American Music Awards.

LisaRaye McCoy is so real and says whatever is on her mind. But sometimes being real can lead to hurt feelings.

LisaRaye gave Da Brat a piece of her mind when the rapper surprised her for her birthday during an episode of Cocktails and Queens, hosted by Claudia Jordan.

The former First Lady of the Turks and Caicos Islands turned 53 last Wednesday. Jordan invited Da Brat to join the 'Queens' chat to surprise LisaRaye.

At first LR seemed surprised to see her half sister, as she broke down in tears. But then it came out that LR's feelings were hurt because Da Brat never picked up the phone to call her and wish her a happy birthday.

Things went left after Da Brat, 46, admitted that she and her big sister have been "a little bit distant" lately.

She continued, "I was going through a bunch of stuff. I haven't seen her or talked to her in a long time."

Da Brat, who refers to LR as "Punk", said, "You know how much I love you. You know how much you mean to me since I was a child..."

Atlanta is wide open as the coronavirus fades after the city achieved herd immunity before any other city. Atlantans simply refused to stay locked indoors until after the elections. They know that herd immunity cannot be achieved successfully if they wear masks and stay locked inside.

Wendy Williams posted a birthday tribute to her son filled with keepsakes from when he was born. But the sentiments of Wendy's post wasn't well received by her Instagram followers.

The 56-year-old daytime talk show Diva honored son Kevin Hunter Jr.'s 20th birthday with an Instagram tribute featuring keepsakes she'd held onto since he was born.

"Today is my biggest day! Son Kevin & I are celebrating his 20th birthday... He's in Miami & I'm in NYC, but love never stops," she wrote in the photo caption. "If you look closely you'll see remains of 1st hair cut, my cerclage is on sneaker, like a mom... I DO have all his teeth.

"I'm not a fan of cake, but today OK... for my son? What are you doing?"

After Googling "cerclage," some of Wendy's followers expressed their disgust.

"I'm more concerned about the cerclage ... it's the stitch(es) that hold your cervix closed. Whhhhyyyyy," wrote one IG user.

Another wrote, "What in the voodoo witchcraft is all that hair."

But others were more understanding, particularly those with an only child, like Wendy.

"I don't see anything wrong with this post still have two of my sons hair from their first hair cut and baby teeth and pics," wrote an IG user.

Kevin Jr. attends college in Miami.

Question: Did you save keepsakes and mementos from when your child was born?

Fashion designer Michael Costello drew backlash on Instagram when he commented under a Kylie Jenner post after she tagged the designer of her birthday dress.

The drama ensued after Kylie posted an Instagram image of her 23rd birthday dress on Wednesday, August 12.

She captioned the image: "thank you my love @olivier_rousteing for the most perfect bday dress..."

Costello was outraged when he saw Kylie tag the designer of her birthday dress. Costello has designed dresses for Kylie for free - and he never got a shout out from her on social media.

Costello took to Instagram and posted a lengthy comment on Jenner's post, calling her out for not always tagging fashion designers like him in her social media posts.

Michael Bezjian/WireImage

Costello, pictured with Nicole Scherzinger, said he's not the only one who designed free dresses for Kylie and never got tagged in her posts.

"For example, Bryan Hearns makes a lot of dresses for Kylie and no one ever gives him any credit and he deserves it. Makeup artists and stylists are getting tagged but the clothing designers are not."

Costello's outburst went viral on social media, and stars such as Lala Kent and Savannah Chrisley shared their negative experiences with him.

Kent wrote: "I literally blew him up to make my custom wedding dress-he would have gotten all the 'tags & @'s' he's talking about. But I never heard back from him. why? Because I'm not 'big enough.' So cool out, Costello - you do the same s--t."

Costello apologized for his meltdown, telling Us Weekly, "I have no issues or beef with Kylie Jenner."

"I love her. The reason I commented on her post is because she is often tagging some designers but not others."

He continued:

"In regards to me, there is no bad air. Kylie has worn my outfits about four or five times. She didn't tag me in posts but her stylist has and she acknowledges me in person and says how much she appreciates my work. I just want the public to see what is happening with the designers and how we are often doing work for free for no credit."

Jason LaVeris/FilmMagic

Singer Brandy Norwood wore a Michael Costello design on the red carpet at the 2015 BET Awards.

Question: Was Costello wrong to call out Kylie for not tagging designers who give her free dresses?
