Blue Ivy Carter turned 8 years old today. The frenzy surrounding the firstborn daughter of Beyonce and Jay-Z began when Beyonce rubbed her belly bump onstage at the 2011 MTV Video Awards.

After Blue Ivy's birth, photographers waited patiently for Beyonce or Jay-Z to bring the baby outside so they could snap photos of her feet or hands. Photos of any part of Blue Ivy's body sold for hundreds of dollars. Exclusive photos of Blue's face would command $100,000 or more.

For the first 2 years of her life Blue Ivy was hidden under blankets and other inanimate objects. She was dubbed "the saddest little girl in NYC."

When Beyonce and Jay-Z finally stopped hiding Blue Ivy, the public weighed in on her looks and her natural hair - which people hated with a passion.

There are reports that the gossip about Blue's hair, or whether she was really a boy, hurt Beyonce and Jay-Z.

In response to the gossip, Blue Ivy did not leave the house until Bey's glam team worked their magic on her. The results were nothing short of spectacular.

Blue Ivy has grown into a beautiful little girl. But even now her looks are still up for debate. Black Twitter dragged 2 rude journalists who thought it was funny to disparage a child's looks.

One of two journalists who caught heat for mocking the looks of Jay-Z and Beyonce's 7-year-old daughter, Blue Ivy, refuses to back down.

Vanity Fair film critic Kameron Austin Collins sparked outrage when he targeted the youngster in an odd Twitter exchange with Harpers Bazaar writer Violet Lucca.

Collins said he felt sorry for Blue Ivy because her father's genes "are about to really hit Blue Ivy."

Lucca replied, "They haven't already?"

To which Collins tweeted: "you're right. But she's lucky -- if it happens now she'll definitely grow out of it. Get the ugly duckling phase done early".

Lucca then compared the child to socialite Kylie Jenner, who underwent extensive facial surgery as a teenager.

Black Twitter's response was swift as the tweet exchange went viral on Wednesday.

Collins cracked first, saying his tweets were a "bad joke, and black girls in particular deserve better."

But the outrage continued on Twitter when Lucca logged in the next day, and seemed to take offense at the anger directed at her and Collins.

"Kam wrote a very earnest apology and everyone in the replies is telling him to keep it. We've been moved to the evil category and there's no way for us to get out of it. I'm sure there will be plenty of people responding to this saying I'm playing the victim by pointing this out."

"There is nothing that I can say that won't be written off or projected upon or dumped on, so I choose to say nothing," Lucca tweeted on Tuesday, Jan. 2.

Lucca's response left many questioning her motive. Some users believe she and Collins insulted Blue Ivy to prove a point about liberals taunting President Trump's 13-year-old son, Baron Trump, on social media.

She blamed "structural racism" for the different reactions to jokes about Baron and Blue Ivy.

"Structural racism is real. It does not matter how much money a [person of color] makes for them to be affected by it. I realize that when I make fun of a noter celeb kid -- say, Baron Trump -- it's totally different that when I say something about Blue Ivy."

Kendall responded by reminding Lucca that journalists should remain unbiased, and that what she wrote "was rooted in racist narratives about Black girls & their features..."

Question: What do you think? Should the journalists' comments be protected speech?

Beyonce claims her daughter Blue Ivy is a "cultural icon" in her legal battle with a wedding planner over trademarking Blue Ivy's name.

It all started after a surrogate allegedly delivered Blue Ivy in a New York hospital 7 years ago. Beyonce, 39, and her husband, rapper Jay-Z, 50, filed paperwork to trademark the newborn's name, Blue Ivy Carter, for the purpose of selling merchandise (dolls, clothing, etc.) bearing the girl's name.

But wedding planner Wendy Morales already laid claim to the "Blue Ivy" name before the more famous Blue Ivy was even born.

After negotiations to the rights for the name fell through, Beyonce filed a trademark infringement lawsuit against Morales.

The case took a nasty turn when Morales accused Beyonce of fraud, but the river boat singer has since hit back, arguing that the trademark is legit because consumers are more likely to associate the name with her daughter.

Besides that, Beyonce claims Blue Ivy is a "cultural icon" whose fashion sense and style are celebrated all over the world, and that consumers are likely to be confused if they see her name on a boutique wedding event planning business.

Beyonce's legal team claims the trademark that the superstar couple filed for is "Blue Ivy Carter" and not just "Blue Ivy."

Beyonce claims Morales runs a "small business, with just three regional offices and a handful of employees", with weak online presence.

On the other hand:

"Blue Ivy Carter is a cultural icon who has been described as a 'mini style star' and has been celebrated for her 'fashion moments' over the years. Her life and activities are followed extensively by the media and the public," the Carters state in documents obtained by The Blast.

"Most significantly, Blue Ivy Carter has achieved a significant amount of fame, particularly at such a young age. She also has a noted and well-chronicled interest in fashion. Given these factors, Blue Ivy Carter is capable of and interested in becoming the face of a brand. For this reason, the factual context demonstrates that BGK filed the Application with the intent to build a brand around Blue Ivy Carter and her public reputation and renown."

Both parties are headed for trial over the trademark issue.

The Internet is buzzing over a new photo of Beyonce and Jay-Z's three children, Blue Ivy and twins Rumi and Sir Carter. The photo was posted on an Instagram fan page that is dedicated to the twins.
