Kevin Hart is on a long road to recovery after injuring his spine in a serious single car crash in Calabasas, California.

A surgeon fused the 40-year-old comedian's back after his spine was fractured in three places, and now Hart will be transferred to a rehabilitation facility where he will remain for 4 months.

Hart's camp originally said he did not injure his spinal cord, but sources say Hart did suffer an injury to his spinal cord that affects his mobility from the waist down.

Sources close to the situation tell The Blast Hart needs intensive physical therapy at a rehab facility where he can be monitored closely.

The Jumanji star is reportedly in extreme pain and is still dependent on potent painkillers.

According to The Blast, as soon as doctors and physical therapists determine Hart is stable enough to do the physical therapy in an outpatient environment, he will be released from the rehab facility.

Hart routinely updated his social media with photos and videos that showed him working out or running in marathons.

"It helps that he was physically in such great shape," one source told The Blast.

Kevin Hart underwent surgery to stabilize three fractures in his back following a serious car crash near his home in Calabasas, Calif. on Sunday.

A surgeon fused three fractures in his spine - two in the upper back and one lower back fracture.

The 40-year-old comedian is said to be heavily medicated and in excruciating pain.

A spinal fracture in three places may mean the patient will have good range of motion in his hands and arms but he will have trouble walking - if not paralyzed from the waist down.

But his doctors say he is expected to make a full recovery, as he didn't suffer a spinal cord injury.

Still, the father-of-three will need physical therapy to help him walk after back surgery.

Hart and two friends were injured when his vintage 1970 Plymouth Barracuda veered off the road, flipped and landed on its roof in a ditch near Mulholland Drive just after midnight on Sunday.

Hart was able to escape the wreckage, but his wife's personal trainer and her husband - who was driving - were trapped inside. First responders used the jaws of life to cut them out of the mangled vehicle.

A passerby spotted the overturned vehicle, observed two people trapped inside, and called 911. "The roof is crushed and the car is pretty totaled," he said.

The witness told police a black SUV arrived at the scene and a man removed Hart through the shattered driver's side window.

Oddly, Hart and his security left the scene of the crash without calling 911 to help his friends.

Hart was at home when an unknown female called 911 approximately 2 hours after the crash.

The woman made the call from inside Hart's home around 2 a.m.

In an unemotional tone she told a dispatcher Hart was "not coherent at all" and he "can't move."

That description was in contrast to information given to the news media by Hart's camp who claimed he was fine, talking and walking around after the crash.

Rumors swirled around the industry that Hart was in much worse condition than his camp was letting on.

Hart's wife Eniko was spotted outside the hospital the next day. She told Splash News that he was awake and talking and he was "going to be just fine."

Hart who is usually very active on social media has not posted an update in 4 days.

Kevin Hart's condition is much worse than his camp revealed in the hours after he was involved in a serious car crash.

A witness told police the diminutive comedian was the first to climb out of the mangled 1970 Plymouth Barracuda that veered off the road and crashed on Sunday night.

A witness called 911 to report people stuck in the wreckage. First responders used the jaws of life to cut them out of the vehicle. But Hart was gone by the time first responders arrived just before 1 a.m. West Coast time.

Later, an unidentified female called 911 from inside Hart's home to say the comedian was "not coherent and can't move." She said something was protruding from his spine.

The 911 call conflicts with earlier reports that Hart was fine, talking and walking around after the crash.

Hart underwent an operation to stabilize his back on Sunday.

Kevin Hart underwent successful surgery to stabilize his back hours after he was in a serious car crash near his home in Calabasas, California.

Hart, 40, sustained a "major back injury" in the single car crash around 1 a.m. Sunday. He was riding in his vintage 1970 Plymouth Barracuda muscle car when his friend, who was driving, lost control of the high performance vehicle and it left the road on Mulholland Drive in Calabasas.

The car, which is a pricey collector's item, landed on the roof and rolled over. The driver suffered back injuries and was transported to a hospital. Hart's personal trainer, Rebecca Broxterman, was also in the car, but she was not injured.

Broxterman, 31, a popular Instagram fitness trainer, is said to be the fiancee of the driver.

Hart was the first one to climb out of the mangled vehicle after the crash, according to a witness. He reportedly called a member of his security team who arrived in a SUV to pick him up and take him home. He was later transported to a hospital.

Sources tell The Blast the comedian underwent successful surgery to "stabilize his back" late Sunday night, and he is expected to recover fully.

The source said "the surgery went smoothly, and he is doing ok. The surgery was a complete success. The doctors completed a procedure to stabilize his back."

Hart's wife, Eniko, has been by his side at the hospital and she is talking to doctors about his care.

Rumors are running rampant that Hart's injury is much more serious than his camp is letting on.

But a source tells The Blast the "Jumanji" actor did not injure his spinal cord, and that the comedian was able to "walk and move his extremities."

Kevin Hart is hospitalized in Los Angeles after suffering a "major" back injury when a car he was riding in lost control and crashed in a ravine on Mulholland Drive near his home in Calabasas, Calif.

The accident happened around 1 a.m. Sunday morning. Hart, 40, was riding in his vintage blue 1970 Plymouth Baraccuda with his wife's personal trainer, Rebecca Broxterman, 31, and a driver when the horrific car crash occurred.

Witnesses say Hart was the first one to climb out of the mangled vehicle, which landed upside down in a ditch. Hart called his security team who arrived in a SUV to pick him up. He was taken home then transported to a hospital.

Paparazzi photos show the muscle car's roof was crushed in the rollover crash. The driver was trapped in the car. He was transported to a hospital with back injuries. Broxterman (pictured below) was uninjured. Broxterman is a popular Instagram trainer who is credited with getting the Harts into shape.

Friends tell The Blast the actor and comedian suffered a major back injury and doctors are trying to determine whether he will need surgery. The injury does not involve his spinal cord, according to The Blast. Hart was able to walk and move his limbs.

Doctors say the comedian is expected to make a full recovery.
