Hip-hop star CeeLo Green walked back his harsh criticism of hot female rappers Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, insisting his comments were taken out of context.

The 45-year-old Gemini made headlines this week after telling Far Out magazine he's not impressed by the ladies' immoral behavior and sexed-up lyrics in their "WAP" music video.

"A lot of music today is very unfortunate and disappointing on a personal and moral level," he said. "There was once a time when we were savvy enough to code certain things. We could express to those it was meant for with the style of language we used. But now music is shameless, it is sheer savagery."

But fans dragged the pop singer, with many reminding him of his own raunchy lyrics in hit songs such as "F**k You."

Many on social media considered his remarks sexist and hypocritical toward women. On Wednesday, CeeLo took to Instagram to address the backlash, claiming it was all one big "misunderstanding".

In a lengthy note, he wrote, "Firstly, I am an advocate of artistic freedom and expression, as well as a fan of Nicki, Cardi & Meagan [sic]. I know most of them personally and consider Cardi & Offset family. Therefore, I would never disrespect them by any means. I acknowledge them all as powerful, beautiful and influential women...and professionals."

CeeLo went on to accuse bloggers and tabloid reporters of stirring up controversy by twisting his words.

"I wholeheartedly apologize to each of them for the inconvenience they have been caused due to a snippet of my interview being used as a headline, and in turn creating controversy and disconnect between me and these ladies as well as their fans. Know that I support everyone who is part of our community & (Black) culture. Always have and always will!"

He added: "Much love to all of the female artists who are running the game and handling their business. With Love, Lo."

Megan Thee Stallion didn't waste any time responding to singer CeeLo Green who criticized her and Cardi B's raunchy music video "WAP."

The 25-year-old up-and-coming rapper took to Twitter.com to slam CeeLo and hypocritical men who criticize her morals.

She tweeted: "Lol dudes will scream 'slob on my k***' word for word and crying [about] WAP... bye lil boy."

"Slob On My K***" is a 1999 song by Oscar award-winning rap group Three 6 Mafia about oral sex.

The "WAP" music video shows various strippers and media personalities portraying whores as Megan and Cardi rap over a Frank Ski sample, "There's some whores in this house."

CeeLo sparked controversy on social media when he called out Cardi B and Megan for their immoral, shameless behavior in the video.

"A lot of music today is very unfortunate and disappointing on a personal and moral level," CeeLo said in an interview with Far Out magazine.

CeeLo recalled the days when singers and hip-hop artists used metaphors and analogies to prevent youngsters from deciphering adult content in their music.

"There was once a time when we were savvy enough to code certain things. We could express to those it was meant for with the style of language we used. But now music is shameless, it is sheer savagery."

He continued: "It's problematic, we suffer from it because there are those that have nothing to do with it, but it is assumed of everyone. You have the 'Heads of State,' like Nicki Minaj or someone who is up there... Nicki could be effective in so many other constructive ways, but it feels desperate.”

CeeLo targeted Cardi and Megan for focusing on attention-seeking and social media likes than making good music.

CeeLo continued: "Cardi B and Megan Thee Stallion, they are all more or less doing similar salacious gesturing to kinda get into position. I get it, the independent woman and being in control, the divine femininity and sexual expression. I get it all." He added bold feminine sexual expression "comes at what cost?."

CeeLo also tapped OG rapper Nicki Minaj to step up and be the guiding light for female rappers who have lost their way.

"You have the 'Heads of State,' like Nicki Minaj or someone who is up there in accolade: success, visibility, a platform to influence. Nicki could be effective in so many other constructive ways, but it feels desperate," he said.

LISTEN to CeeLo Green is… Thomas Callaway HERE:

CeeLo Green, real name Thomas Callaway, collaborated with Dan Auerbach from The Black Keys, who is the producer and creative director of this new album. It all came together when Dan invited CeeLo to Nashville for some songwriting sessions and after penning almost 30 songs together (with no intention of creating an album), Dan said that CeeLo's voice would be great on some of the tracks.

They went into his studio with a live band of legendary 60s & 70s musicians and in one take, they recorded the album that you hear today. This is the first time that CeeLo has recorded in-studio with a live band behind him and it really gives it that vintage sound and feel.

The live band, which Auerbach curated, included Nashville musicians such as Bobby Wood (who has backed greats like ELVIS), Dave Roe (bass player for Johnny Cash), Gene Crisman (famous drummer who played with Elvis, Roy Orbison, Dusty Springfield), Russ Pahl (electric guitarist who plays for Miranda Lambert and Taylor Swift), among others.

Track Listing for CeeLo Green is… Thomas Callaway:

    For You
    Lead Me
    Little Mama
    Don’t Lie
    I Wonder How Love…
    People Watching
    You Gotta Do It All
    Doing It All Together
    Slow Down
    Down With The Sun
    Thinking Out Loud
    The Way

Remember I told you about the Dallas jump-off who singer/songwriter Cee Lo Green keeps on call? I was wrong about her hometown. She actually lives in Houston, according to gossip website TMZ.com.

TMZ claims they broke the story about Cee Lo's jump-off -- but your auntie was the first to spill that TEA on my blog. In fact, Cee Lo's other jump-offs (at least 2 strippers) are based in Atlanta, and Cee Lo reportedly pays the rent of at least one of them.

I previously introduced you to Cee Lo's former jump-off @MissErika, who appeared as a knowledgeable guest on Anderson Cooper's segment on sports groupies.
